After a day of shopping, we stopped here for a bite. It was our first time and before we left, I asked my husband when we could return. It's that good! My husband ordered the wicked dog and loved it. I had a bite and can see why. I had the chicken strip combo and it's the best I've ever had. The chicken strips were juicy, flavorful and large. We substituted the mac and cheese and it was so good, it ruined all other mac and cheese forever. It was that good. Creamy, flavorful and plentiful. Our cashier, who was very friendly, also threw in extra fries, which were good. We ordered a gold bar pastry, which is kinda like a brownie with other stuff in it, including coconut. Incredible flavor! And my husband ordered a banana pudding, which, you guessed it, was heavenly (no photo, sorry). Plenty of comfortable seating. The restaurant was spotless and it's right off 35. We saw this place on (Texas) Elder Eats and I'm starting to get upset with most of his choices. The hot dog was ok. Not bad but I wish it was a bit more of the plump hot dogs instead of standard. The bun was buttery and good. The wings were standard. Not bad. The asada fries were very salty. I think it was the cheese but can't be for sure but it wasn't the fries. The Mac and cheese was ok. I think it was the same cheese as the asada. Didn't stand out. Now for the best part...the tenders are good. The coating is delicious and you can tell they season or marinate it. They were tender and juicy. No complaints. Also, we were excited to try the cinnamon rolls however, the 2 they had out there looked older and dry; not appetizing so we didn't get any. Bird Dog is a great little restaurant I've been trying to check out for while. Today was the day it happened. I ordered their MESSY DOG and it was just that. I also ordered HOLY COW CHEESEBURGER. It was a takeout order but from what I viewed it was clean. The taste of the messy dog was surprisingly tasty with an all beef hot dog smothered with carne asada and a creamy cheese sauce with sautéed onions and peppers. The bun was able to hold it all without falling apart. The hot dog had a snap when biting through it just like it should have. It was a bit salty but I definitely would order it again. The cheese burger was also very tasty as my husband and I split the two items. The flavor of the patty was really good as well as juicy and not dry or overcooked. What we ordered: The Filthy Asada Fries and The Mother Clucker. For that plate: you get 6 tenders and for sides we chose the Elote and Mac and cheese. My wife likes to try potato salad but she is also quite picky about it. After discussing it with the employee- she decided against it since she said they didn't make it in house. But when we got our food brought to our table- there was a side of potato salad! She explained we didn't ordered it but the employee- same person who took out order- said the owner wanted you to try it and it was on them! Very impressive customer service! Hubby wanted to try something new so the family ordered Bird Dog. When he went to pick it up, he said they were really nice and the restaurant smelled so good. Apparently they fresh bake cinnamon rolls and cookies! He said the staff were nice and told him that they just took a fresh batch out of the oven. The chicken tenders here are great! I would definitely recommend this joint. Pricing isn't bad at all. We got 20 tenders with 8 sauces for $40. Large fry, or I should say family fry, was $7.60. However we were not impressed with the food. Elotes were over cooked and maybe had oil or butter possibly, didn't seem to have mayo or queso fresco. The chicken was juicy however the breading taste like frozen chicken tenders. The fried pickles were also over cooked. Upon entry, we were greeted with a warm smile and friendly service. The ambiance was very open with a long table right in the middle of the dining area, which is great for big parties. I have lived in the area two years and was always hesitant try this place. We finally did today and I'm so mad I could have been eating this for years. First of all staff is friendly, manager checked in on us while we dined and had a friendly smile. The staff taking our order was polite and it was very clean. The food... omg! The chicken breading actually has flavor and isn't saturated in grease. The servings were huge! I ordered a 4 piece that came with fries, toast and a side. I got the mac and cheese for the side and it had a little kick to it and was so creamy! The toast was buttery and not burnt and the fries were cooked to perfection and not overly salted. The gravy was creamy for dipping and I had plenty left over to take home. Several nearby had hotdogs and I'm not much of a hot dog girl but they looked delicious. The people that work here were incredibly friendly and came by to check on us a couple times. The owner even stopped by and told us his story for a bit. We got their sauce, which is somewhat of a honey mustard sauce along with the chipotle ranch and the avocado ranch. I enjoyed all the sauces, but the avocado ranch was my favorite. The chicken tenders had plenty of seasoning, but they weren't too spicy for the kids. The mac and cheese was really creamy, but it did have a little bit of a kick to it and my daughter didn't eat it. I didn't mind because I thought it was really good. I really enjoyed the elote, but my husband wasn't a huge fan, but he also doesn'really like elote anyways. My kids are really picky about their fries, but they actually really enjoyed these. Driving back to Austin from San Antonio and decided to try Bird Dog--right off I-35! I think it used to be a BBQ joint, but now it's all about chicken tenders and hot dogs, and honestly... it works! And then we chose the Mother Clucker to share between the 3 of us since it had 6 chicken strips. We couldn't decide on the sauces so they were nice enough to recommend some and let us try a couple more than what came with the meal. There's a spicy avocado ranch that was so yummy- we all gravitated towards it. The owner came out to talk to us and he even threw in a free dessert to try. He said they are constantly trying out new recipes- this time it was a pumpkin roll. He was very proud of his chicken strips when we sang our praises of how tender they were. We really loved the food but loved the customer service even more. They Mac and cheese is not to be forgotten because they use the queso! The same stuff they smother their filthy fries with! The tenders were super yummy and super tender, the fries were very good and fresh. Along with the tenders and fries the sauces they had were very good. I had tried the Spicy Avocado Ranch, Avocado Ranch, and the bird dog. The best was most definitely the spicy avocado ranch had the perfect spice to it.
