    Tenders and fries
    Christina B.

The chicken tenders here are great! I would definitely recommend this joint. Pricing isn't bad at all. We got 20 tenders with 8 sauces for $40. Large fry, or I should say family fry, was $7.60. There was more than enough for 4 people. The service was great also. No complaints here at all.

Hubby wanted to try something new so the family ordered Bird Dog. When he went to pick it up, he said they were really nice and the restaurant smelled so good. Apparently they fresh bake cinnamon rolls and cookies! He said the staff were nice and told him that they just took a fresh batch out of the oven. We ordered burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, fries, and onion rings. They were all delicious! I didn't get pictures of everything because the family moved fast! This is definitely on our list of good in San Marcos!

Great service. Small but mighty menu. Our first time trying it. We were in and out in 30 minutes and everything was delicious. Very quiet, but spacious. Great for kids, families. The chicken was tender, juicy and had some seasoning that was to die for. The elote dog was sausage and bacon and packed with flavor. Will try again.

Aesthetically the place is cute, a little small and comes with a fire place. There was plenty of drink options, I was actually surprised by the menu choices. However we were not impressed with the food. Elotes were over cooked and maybe had oil or butter possibly, didn't seem to have mayo or queso fresco. The chicken was juicy however the breading taste like frozen chicken tenders. The fried pickles were also over cooked. The cheese on the asada fries was like a white nacho cheese, it was pretty creamy. Wasn't exactly enjoyed. Everything else was ok. Over all not very impressed with the food. Waiting staff was courteous.

Carne Asada Fries and 3 Tender Plate

Food came out super quickly but everything was fresh! Service was extremely kind and welcoming, it was a very relaxed and clean dining room. I had the carne asada fries and my wife opted for the 3 tender plate. This would definitely be a regular place for me if I lived in San Marcos, and it will be a stop for me anytime i'm here!

Was looking for San Marcos BBQ, but the address brought me here. It was a great surprise as the food was prepared fresh and delicious! Upon entry, we were greeted with a warm smile and friendly service. The ambiance was very open with a long table right in the middle of the dining area, which is great for big parties. The tenders has a thin light crust and their dipping sauces were tasty. Parking was plentiful and there is a drive-thru as well. A must return for us. Enjoy!

Wow! Bird Dogs is SO delicious. We ordered the Bird Basket, the Naughty Dog, the OG Dog, and the Elote Dog--and every single bite was packed with flavor. The mac and cheese was creamy, rich, and super filling. The hot dogs were next-level yummy and perfectly done. The chicken tenders are 10 out of 10!!!!!Everything was fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Menu is somewhat limited (but hey that works for In-N-Out, right? ‍). The buns are soft and fresh, dogs have a nice snap to them and are thick. The toppings were all delicious (especially the chorizo chili on the Wicked Chili dog). I'd give it five stars, but when all is said and done, we're talking hot dogs, am I right?

I've passed by this place for months now and never stopped. Well, yesterday was the day!!! Me and my daughter wanted a quick lunch and Bird Dog was the choice. The menu is basically hot dogs and tender combos etc. But, these aren't your average dogs and birds. The hot dogs were crispy, flavorful, and juicy. The OG Dog is topped with bacon and lots of their signature sauce. The tenders were seasoned well and crispy. We loved the Texas toast and French fries too. The restaurant has nice clean wood tables and bar style seating. The cashier was super cool and brought our food right to the table for us. This is definitely a must have lunch spot when in the area.

Driving back to Austin from San Antonio and decided to try Bird Dog--right off I-35! I think it used to be a BBQ joint, but now it's all about chicken tenders and hot dogs, and honestly... it works! The chicken tenders were so good--crispy, flavorful batter and super juicy inside. I tried the avocado ranch dip (I think they make their own sauces!), and it paired perfectly. The meal comes with fries and a side & mac & cheese was Creamy and delicious! My daughter ordered the asada fries, and they were fully loaded with meat and cheese--definitely a hit. We also shared the Ol' Smokey dog, and it ended up being my favorite! Tons of flavor and cooked just right. And their sweet tea!!! Omgosh! Now that's a Texas sweet tea! I love that they also have the aqua fresas - the pineapple & jicama are our favs!!! Great little spot for comfort food with a twist--definitely worth the stop!

All around great place between the food and the service. Owner is a great guy and loves to talk with his customers

After spending the morning and early afternoon shopping at the outlets we needed fuel before we head back to SA. We found this on Yelp and was pleased it wasn't too far from the outlets. Since it was too early for dinner- we were it was pretty dead on this Friday late afternoon. We definitely wanted to Filthy fries because we try Carne Asada fries whenever we see them on a menu. And then we chose the Mother Clucker to share between the 3 of us since it had 6 chicken strips. We couldn't decide on the sauces so they were nice enough to recommend some and let us try a couple more than what came with the meal. There's a spicy avocado ranch that was so yummy- we all gravitated towards it. The owner came out to talk to us and he even threw in a free dessert to try. He said they are constantly trying out new recipes- this time it was a pumpkin roll. He was very proud of his chicken strips when we sang our praises of how tender they were. We really loved the food but loved the customer service even more. They Mac and cheese is not to be forgotten because they use the queso! The same stuff they smother their filthy fries with! The only thing the fries needed was probably some kind of a pico and hot sauce/ salsa. But all in all- we will def be back whenever we are in San Marcos!

Notorious Big Bird Combo. $10.99 for all that food and a drink!
    Scott W.

Notorious Big Bird. So much food for $10.99 (includes 2 sides and a drink!) the chicken was so tender. Sauces were great! Sides were on point. Loved the Elote cup. So so good. I can't wait to go back again. If I wasn't so full, I would have kept on eating. Delicious. The cashier was awesome too. So friendly and kind. Everything was clean. Love having napkins on the table. I have a beard and ALWAYS have to ask for extra napkins. Great place!

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken? Yeah. It's that kind of place. We went for the chicken sandwiches and I need you to understand--these were not just "good." These were ruin-other-places-for-you good. Crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned... the kind of sandwich that makes you immediately start planning your next visit before you've even finished the first one. Now let's talk sides, because they did not come to play. Coleslaw (mine): fresh, balanced, actually flavorful (which is rare because let's be honest... slaw can be a gamble). This one? Solid win. Fried okra (my friend's): I am extremely picky about fried okra. Like, I side-eye most of it. But THIS? Golden, crispy, not a hint of that weird slimy nonsense. It was so good we ordered more to take home... which tells you everything you need to know. And because we clearly make excellent life choices, we shared a chess pie for dessert. Rich, sweet, buttery perfection. What really tied it all together though? The service. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being over the top. The kind of service that makes you feel taken care of, not rushed. Bottom line: Every single bite was worth every penny--and honestly, I would've paid more and still walked out happy. This is one of those spots that doesn't just meet expectations... it casually exceeds them and then sends you home thinking about it later like a crush you're not over yet.

I would come back and try their stupid hot (ghost) flavor next time. I had the habanero and it was spicy yet the chicken flavor was still good. When we moved to San Marcos and realized they were opening one up across from HEB off exit 205 we both looked at each other and said in unison "uh-oh". Hot chicken sandwiches are one of my favorite things to eat on the planet. Our yearly trips to Nashville aren't complete until I go to Prince's, Hattie Bs and Boltons. The first time we went to Tumble was 2 days after returning from a trip and I'll put T22 up against any of them all day. We have never even gone to the Hattie Bs in Austin because we don't need to. I have tried a couple other hot chicken spots in the area and was severely disappointed. They set the bar that high. A Big Larry is a must have. Blood orange frozen marg with a Gran Mariner floater that is perfect for that Central Texas heat. Bone-in chicken and tenders are great but the OG sandwich is the star of the show. You can choose from 6 different heat levels from nothing to "stupid hot"...which is in fact stupid hot. I go one notch below (cluckin hot) and my wife enjoys dang hot. The OG is huge so come hungry. We have actually taken to ordering the Lil OG so we don't drive home in a coma. Try it Korean style at least once. It doesn't disappoint. They have several other sandwich versions as well so, plenty of variety. The fries are like old school McDonald's fries (compliment, have to get the comeback sauce of course) but the ranch beans are my typical go to. I do wish they had potato salad like other locations but the slaw is great if I'm in the mood to cool things off. They are also know for their pies, I'm partial to the Key Lime. The happy hour menu (4-6pm) is a legitimately good value as well and has items on there you'll actually want to order (Big Larry, Lil OG, etc). The staff, management, bartenders and hosts are always attentive and cheerful. We bring our dogs and sit on the patio and everyone comes by to give them some pets, water bowl and even the occasional treat. You'll love it here just like anyone and everyone we take here who visits from out of town or who we brow-beat in to going who hasn't been yet.
