    Nashville burger
    Amy S.

Delicious chicken in a chill environment. Staff were friendly and easily accommodated our group of 8. I ordered the Nashville hot burger. The chicken was supremely moist with a nice crunchy coating. The spice of the hot sauce was lost within the burger... The bun was too big for the chicken portion and overwhelmed the flavors of the chicken. Next time I'll be ditching the bun and focusing on the main dish... The chicken. Also ordered a side of the jalapeno corn dish, which was tasty.

Great fried chicken. This place has the right approach: do one thing and do it damn well! Only come into Bird if you want chicken, damn good chicken! The fried chicken was juicy and the breading was tasty and crisp. The fries were a bit of a let down, so I'll skip those next time. The beer was nice though, a local London microbrew. I had the Chicken and waffles and they were both fab! The waffles had cheese and spring onion inside, so they were somewhere between a sweet and a savory waffle (once I doused them in maple syrup!). Next time, I think I'm going for their chicken wings. Looking around at what other customers ordered, I think that's the way to go. They also sell donuts (which are apparently all the rage), but I'll have to taste for myself next time.

Short: Big portions, good fried chicken, poor chips, friendly but occasionally slow service. Long: I've got really mixed feelings about this place. I've now been there twice. The first time, I probably would have gone for 4/5, but the second time, the experience wasn't quite as good. Let me start with the good. The fried chicken is tasty, and the portions of it are huge. The chicken & waffle burger is probably enough for two people, and the friend chicken sandwich is also excellent. The service is friendly but... The service can also be really slow when busy. The second time we went for lunch, it took us over an hour from ordering to get our food, which is too slow for lunch time. Having said that, they apologisde and gave us a reduction on the bill, so hopefully they are working on it. Next, the chips are really disappointing. For £3.50 you get a really small bowl of fairly limp fries. This doesn't really make sense, as chips are cheap to make, but organic chicken isn't. If they made the fries portions bigger, they could probably get away with including less chicken. I will be back here, and may upgrade it to a 4* if the service is better, but there is definitely room for improvement.

A little secret: this place sells GLUTEN FREE free range fried chicken! It is not written on their website or their menu, which greatly worried me. I read it in an article by the Londonist, then checked when I made my reservation and when I placed my order. It's true: the chicken is GF. It's fried in rice and corn flour, instead of wheat flour. You can choose whether you want dark or light meat, or mixed. I chose mixed and got a breast and a leg. The quality was so good that I would get two dark meat pieces next time, and it isn't greasy at all. You also get to choose a glaze or dipping sauce *check for allergies* - I got honey ginger glaze and it was a-mazing. The chips are also GF but were average. Next time I would sub a few chicken wings in for the chips! They also serve chicken and waffles (which my husband said were delicious), burgers, and breakfast! Their homemade doughnuts also seemed to be extremely popular too - people came in for doughnuts rather than the chicken! This place is actually a saviour to me. I just don't know WHY they don't advertise themselves as selling GF chicken?!

This place was pretty empty for a bank holiday evening. Service was pretty patchy - although three booths were empty (and stayed empty the whole night), me and a friend were only allowed a table. Also took quite a while to get service. Despite the poor reviews I actually thought the food was pretty good. Great quality chicken and proper portion sizes (4 pieces will definitely fill you up). Had the chicken with a soy/garlic glaze (great) and a selection of sides (battered gherkins - good; slaw - could have been creamier; fries - standard; cheese fries - the best side by far) Overall the food gets a 4 and the service a 2, so a solid three stars. Price was pretty good too - £70 for a BIG meal for two, and five beers between us.

Bird might just be the word you're looking for if you're looking for fried chicken in Shoreditch. Chicken and waffle isn't that much of a thing yet, but if you've TRIED it, then you know it should be. BIRD does good, but not GREAT fried chicken. It's a little on the oily side, without the satisfying payoff of that moment where you're like "damn, that was the best fried chicken I've ever had". What elevates the meal is surprisingly the waffle. A lovely giant cheese and onion waffle. With LOTS of cheese. Cheese in the waffle, cheese between the chicken. So much cheese. So heavy. And Bacon. Hello! The chicken waffle burger is a beast and one you'll need a good appetite to tackle. The southern fried wings were again oily but the glaze was pretty good. The service was pretty lacklustre to be honest. Doors were left open whilst staff chatted to persons outside. Requests for water had to be repeated. The place was cold. A little fuss was made over the table booking despite the restaurant being half empty. These things aside however, it's a rarity to get chicken and waffle together and it's the combination of the core ingredients that make this place good. If you can forgive whatever is going on around you, then when that chicken waffle burger arrives, you'll forget whatever annoyances were occurring and work on defeating this beast of a burger. PS. Do not try to eat with hands. That's just asking for a mess!

Looks like it's good crazy flavour right? Presentation was good flavour not so good.

Could have been better. Chicken was undercooked and flavour was underwhelming. Their website looked good and they take even better picture of the food. I believe in second chances so I would recommend it. The atmosphere is good. They seating arrangement is nice. Great for large and small groups of people.

Being a South London, I'm a fan of 'Fried Chicken'. When I heard of 'Bird' I couldn't wait to taste what they had to offer. Bird offers food throughout the day, Breakfast all the way through to Dinner. For a place that was priding itself on fried chicken, I was intrigued to see what their breakfast menu had to offer. The Breakfast menu was short but sweet. They offered a good number of dishes to choose from with additional extras as optional on top of your main dish, if you were feel more peckish. Intially the 'Doughnut Buttle' jumped out to me on the menu, given my love for the sweeter things in life. Looking down the menu, my hunt for fried chicken was successful found under the 'Extras' section of the menu. The fried chicken on offer was tastey and very satisfying. For a place that also offered Gluten Free options and have all their chicken sourced from free range, I was not dissappointed with what was on offer.

So back in August last year, I had a go at the old Deliveroo. There isn't a lack of delivery services, but as some of the restaurants I work with had been approached to join them, I wanted to try them from a consumer point of view. All in all, it was a good and professional service. My food of choice was chicken from Bird. As you will read from my previous review, I was unfortunately not impressed. Fast forward 6 months and having been out voted for something to eat on a quiet Monday, we ended up, physically, at Bird. Although our choices were plenty and different, unfortunately it was pretty much the same result as my last experience. Two of us opted for two pieces of white chicken each, with a sauce on the side. Andee, went for 6 chicken wings. We had chips and deep fried pickles as sides. The chicken was tough, rather tasteless and even the sauces did not bring out the flavour. For what you pay, Nandos is better. Sorry. I'm not quite sure what they are getting at here. With chicken as the main option they have a combination of the normal sauces/glazes (bbq, buffalo, hot etc), but then weird Asian ones (stick soy, Korean gochujang). I am sorry, but I am not sold on this concept. If the mains were good, we could perhaps overlook the mish mash of the menu. Three disappointed girlies here. Where they are on to a winner, is with the desserts. We had the ice cream doughnut sandwich, cherry sundae and banana split. They were HUGE and really tasty. Whilst we left on a high because of the sweet sweets, there will not be a third time lucky for this spot I am afraid. The service whilst ok was intermittent. The room started off empty but gradually filled up (very child friendly), and the service was really not so warm, more like, we have to be here to get paid. I guess we felt from the interior and style of food that it should be like an American diner with that warm, over the top welcome and regular check-backs (up-sell opportunities), etc. A bit like The Diner and Red Dog Saloon nearby. But no, it was very lack lustre.

Really underwhelmed by my meal here. The food was served cold and they served fake Heinz in a Heinz bottle which is one of my pet hates when eating out. I'd avoid it and head to Clutch a five minute walk away for anything chicken related. The foods amazing every single time and the ketchup isn't fake. Only saving grace were the nice staff.

One of the food combinations of the moment appears to be fried chicken and waffles. Perhaps this has been influenced by the success of the 'Duck and Waffle' restaurant in the city. I noticed the trend when surfing twitter feeds and reading the newsletters from restaurant reviewers. Let's be clear on where I stand: it's a great combination of two of the best comfort foods! I was expecting such a restaurant to be in the Shoreditch/Hoxton area. I made a search using the reliable Yelp app and I was suggested this restaurant. It is roughly in between the Shoreditch and Hoxton overground stations. I went there for a late lunch. Because of the time of day, there was a lot of space and I sat next to a window to watch the people passing outside. I ordered the fried chicken and waffle (of course) and a Hackney pale ale. There are plenty of other nice meals on the menu and I also spotted a specials board. There are two nicely fried pieces of chicken and a savoury waffle, but it comes with a cup of sweet syrup. (I think it was maple.) My preconception was confirmed: it was a delicious meal. If I am vaguely in the area, then I will head back there again. It looks like a great place to go with a group of friends to have tasty chicken and drinks.

Seen the video from sorted and was like have to go and give it a try. Was pleasantly surprised as an American (Californian) I wasn't expecting the world . But I got the universe and all its juices. The food was just as amazing as in the video. Service was great even though she was all alone she was able to handle the whole restaurant. Highly recommend!!

First time we went to scout out the location, it was closed because it was cold, miserable and raining (ah, the English springtime!) As soon as the weather started clearing up, I dragged my colleague (who incidentally is one of the world's biggest Nandos fans and has eaten at something like 2 dozen of its branches) back over to Brick Lane. We both had the lunch special special with the hot (I think it's 'woof woof' sauce). It is certainly hot sauce, I have a relatively high tolerance for spice but made pretty slow progress (great for clearing out the sinuses btw although between that and all the orange sauce over your face I'd recommend taking about half the kitchen roll provided). The lunch special includes 6 wings, onion rings or fries, blue cheese sauce, a few little sticks of celery and a drink. My colleague love the fries, the onion rings were standard (and by standard I mean delicious, as they are one of my favourite foodstuffs). Drink options are awesome - I had cream soda which comes in a pink can which I drank from a pink straw. I looked extremely serious and prepared for my afternoon's work arriving back in the office still drinking it. Aside from being hot, the woof woof sauce was a little sour for my tastes, I would get it again but would add some salt. I have since tried the original which is fine but not particularly exciting. I also sampled the next level up which immediately burnt a hole through my tongue down to my stomach. Colleague experienced same sensation (and he is a Nandos extra hot kind of guy). This really raises the stake on the 'roulette' option - 7 original wings plus one 'viper' - the fourth and most extreme level. Terrifying. Has to be done.

Buffalo Wings... in London?…read more Yup, you heard it right. The folks at The Orange Buffalo are cooking up some absolutely delicious wings from the heart of the Turman Brewery just off Brick Lane. Nick, the man behind the counter, hails from England but has spent time in both Upstate New York and in San Francisco. Thinking about wings and food culture in general, he couldn't have picked two better spots to learn all about the secrets of the Buffalo wing and about the importance of good ingredients. The sauces are home made and the chicken is free range, what more could one want really? This little stall is absolutely worth checking out, and even on a Friday at lunchtime there was a queue. So go, eat wings, be happy.

Of the places not from Western New York at the festival, StickyWings stuck out as having the best-tasting wings. Vacationing in London years later, I had to pay them a visit. StickyWings is a takeaway-style joint on a side street, with a dozen or so tables occupying a narrow dining room. After ordering at the counter, I took a seat and waited for the wings to come. The amount of time my food took to arrive was just enough to convince me that the wings were cooked fresh and, indeed, they tasted that way. Crispy, saucy goodness. While I wish they had a spicier "Buffalo" option, these are hands-down the best Buffalo-style wings I have had outside of New York. My ONLY complaint is that the sauce is a little off. Tastes a tad buttery for a traditional Buffalo "medium", but other than that, the wings were perfect. Cost was reasonable, too, and service was friendly. I lived in Buffalo, New York for 8 years, surrounded by the best wing joints in the world. StickyWings is the real deal. I am actually from western NY, within 50 miles of where Buffalo Wings became famous and every western New Yorker knows a good chicken wing and I have only ever found one place in the UK with good enough wings for them to remind me if home... But now I've found another!!! I've been seeing this business prepare for opening over the last few wings and when I realised it was an American Wing Restaurant I was so excited as it's right on my way home! The chicken wings were the right size, had the right crisp and succulence and the buffalo bliss sauce was reminiscent of the Anchor Bar(birthplace of buffalo wings) itself. I was given 5 wings and wedges in what I believe will be one of the menu items. It didn't come with Bleu cheese as standard (which might have been for the pre-opening event..idk) , but I didn't ask for it so I will make sure to do so next time. It did come with coleslaw, though...which I didn't really see the point of, lol! Oh yeah hey have burgers and per menu items, I'll unlikely be trying these soon as wings are now so close to home. Anyway, the opening is on the 5th of November and there is 20% off so I will most certainly be there to get some good wings again.., eventually when they are fully trained, I will update this on service too!

It's actually quite a good promotion, starting at 5 PM with no end time, so you don't feel pressure to get there early. I arrived close to 7 PM and the place was still relatively empty, and we had our choice of a few tables and did not encounter a queue at the bar. I can imagine that when busy, it could be a pretty hard place to get served (I guess by virtue of being a pop-up, the venue may not have been intended for a bar). Beer & Buns is on the first floor above K10, a Japanese restaurant in a modern glass building near Broadgate Circle that is totally deserted in the evening. Once upstairs, it's pretty dark as the windows are mostly blacked out, but there are some long tables (like a beer hall), some round barrels that act as high tables, a foosball table, a pinball machine, and some stools against a window ledge that get the only bit of sunlight. For something that calls itself an izakaya, I thought the décor would be more authentic. In practice, it is as authentic as Ippudo, which is to say, not at all. We were offered samples of the cocktails (a margarita and a strawberry daiquiri), of which I definitely preferred the daiquiri; the margarita was far too sour. Instead, I went with Asahi draft beer, which was £4.50 for a pint - not cheap so was rather glad for the 2-for-1 offer! That's the only beer that you can get with the offer, as the other beers were all bottled, so you don't actually get much of a selection. I tried all 4 types of the buns, which are 2 for £6.50. The chicken karaage is marked as the special, but I thought the pork belly was much better. The aubergine katsu is quite unique as well. I had a bite of my friend's sweet & spicy chicken wings, which I thought were ok, but nothing remarkable. Overall, I think this is a cool concept, but could have been executed much better. The hirata buns are one of the hottest things in London right now, and there are a handful of street food stalls, the veteran Flesh & Buns, and the new restaurant Bao that do them. After I had the beer and tried the buns, it got a bit boring. I wouldn't be in any hurry to come again.
