I was traveling to Anchorage from Anchor Point yesterday (6/5). Just after coming out of the mountains, my coolant light came on and then, the battery light. I made it to the Girdwood gas station and Robert was very helpful. I limped the car to the Birdhouse Garage. It wasn't open, but Liz came out and questioned me about what I needed. I explained the antifreeze leak and the battery problem. I also explained that I needed my car by noon the next day. At 9:30, I got a message. They identified the problem and would have it ready by noon. I got there, the car was fixed and even washed and detailed. I did not meet Bill, but Liz and the work done was great! read more

I traded a tow truck for 2 vehicles a 2008 ford explorer and a 2006 volvo xc70 not even 2 weeks later both vehicles had been reported stolen. $500 extra to have some title work done on the ford because he claimed there was issues another $500 on the volvo to have him get a key made. Plus alot of work needed done to both. The explorer i had to drain 3 extra courts of oil out of plus new tail light cover plus tires. I have about $1,000 in repairs ive done. Then he has the nerve to threaten me. He has a pretty big courtview history along with his girlfriend. Dont doDont do business with william halfdan peterson or with elizabeth flynn. I went and repoed my tow truck and got nothing but threatening text from him when he owed me $1,000 that i loaned him thought he wad a friend. read more

Steer clear at all costs ! Do not do any sort of business with this shady dude. Total lier, scammer, and addict. Let my engine fill with water because I had a hole cut in my hood over the carb air cleaner. Made promises to have my vehicle inside getting worked on. That never happened it just sat outside for weeks in the rain. When I wanted to just get my car back it suddenly became a hostage like situation and it was now a ransom fee. I had to pay 500 in cash ? For storage fees evidently and tow chargers. Even though that was never discussed before I just wanted my car back. I still need report this scammer to the IRS. Wants to do everything in cash. Come to find out he thought I was a cash cow and was going to try n take me big time with a complicated LS engine swap. It was recommended to me to get my car towed out of there ASAP by a mutual "friend" Bill even asked the tow truck driver where it was going which I had told the driver beforehand not to. My bumper had even been scratched up in the process which I wasn't concerned about because the car needed repainted. But he had his daughter or worker or crackhead girlfriend go out there with a sharpie when I wasn't looking and try to touch it up. All in all this was the Worst shop if you can call it that I've ever been too. read more

STAY AWAY FROM BIRDHOUSE GARAGE!! Don't just ask me - ask the local neighbors who also live in Indian, AK They put 20 miles on my truck; using my vehicle to joy ride (hopefully not selling drugs) around town also left my truck on 1/4 tank (but it wasn't them my gas tank was leaking they said!) When I picked up truck, cab had trash and drug paraphernalia on the dash of my truck! Unbelievable!!! I can't believe owner "bill" is still in business (I doubt he will much longer). He has been busted at least 4 times for driving without insurance and he was driving my rig around town using it as his personal vehicle - it remains unclear if any vehicle(s) at his "shop" actually work or have gas?). After conveying needing vehicle fixed by a specific date - he said ok, but it wasn't done. I had to use vehicle on Monday so when I showed up Sunday, nothing had been done to it. He then stated I had bad u-joints (not true). I became suspicious of his shady behavior, so I threw the towel in and said give me my keys which he refused, so I used my spare set and left with my vehicle (no work / services had been done to my vehicle). He called police to report a stolen vehicle (i.e. my vehicle). The super helpful Anchorage Police personnel chuckled and said he couldn't report my vehicle stolen. Now he is threating to contact my military chain of command + threatning to sue for services (THAT WERE NOT PROVIDED) + threatening to show up at my residence to tow my vehicle. He will not stop harassing me via cellphone. Sadly, He exhibits desperate and unbecoming behavior courtesy of his serious financial distress, and resorts to unfruitful scare / bully tactics. The owners tried charging my grandparents $150 for a slow leak in their tire. When asked just to fill the tire up with air so they could get back to anchorage, they still tried charging $150 JUST FOR AIR. I am disgusted that an establishment would take advantage and try to charge elderly folks that much to fill up their tire with air. My grandparents instead turned around to anchorage and got their tire plugged and filled up with air at a Texaco, where the attendant didn't charge them a cent. Birdhouse should get zero business here on out as this is a disgusting way to treat customers. read more

Bird House Garage and Cabins is Great and has great customer service. Bill and his wife treated us great when we bought a vehicle from them here recently and when it had an issue only a few days later they scheduled us to get it in to their shop at the Bird Creek Garage and fixed it in a extremely timely manor and didn't even charge us for the repairs so we tipped him a hundred dollars for the great customer service. This is a very family oriented business it seems like they will have my family and I business as long as they are open and around the Anchorage and Bird Creek area thanks a bunch for all your help with everything Bill and we are enjoying our new to us car. read more

My elderly, handicapped father stopped here on 08/22/2021 due to a leaking tire. He was driving home to Sterling with my mom. Sunday was busy and he was asked to wait. 1 hour later a technician came out and my father explained the issue. A screw in the tire, loosing pressure could they fix it? Technician explained he was quite busy but give me $150 and I'll fix it. My father wasn't about to be gouged so he asked for some air in the tire and he would limp back to Anchorage and have it fixed there. Technician says sure, for $150. Who treats people like this? My parents drove back to Anchorage and stopped at MT Auto on the Old Seward highway. Technician came out, took a look and said "No problem!" Pulled out the screw, reamed it, plugged it, airEd the tire in about 5 minutes. My father asked what he owed and the technician says " No charge!" My grateful father gave him $20 and a big thanks. THIS how you treat people. The actions of Bird House garage are reprehensible and should be avoided at all costs. read more

This is an untrustworthy garage. A few years ago I went to have my tires changed over knowing that it would be well over the cost of having it done in town but was meeting friends nearby so I bit the bullet. The mechanic called and told us that the break pads were 10% rear and 0% in the front asking if we wanted those changed out as well. Having had them changed just over a year prior I was skeptical and passed. Took the car to my regular mechanic who confirmed that they had 70% and 60% usable pad remaining. read more

Called last night after my car hit a rock submerged in the snow at a pull out and my 2 drivers side tires were blown out. The owner gave me an outrageous quote for towing and repairs. As an outsider watching this man handle business, his practices were embarrassing, at best. If you want the short of this, Bill is extremely rude and sneaky in his practices: TAKE YOUR VEHICLES ELSEWHERE. If you want the details... a friend of mine (M) took her car to Bill's shop for an unknown cause, and she explained that she was tight on cash given the time of year (seasonal work woes) and was wondering if he could work on it slowly over time for a discounted price. Originally (mid October), Bill eagerly agreed to help, promising that he would do what he could in his spare time to keep the price low, but over two months later it turned out that Bill (his words) "lost interest working on it and stopped weeks ago" and failed to mention that until relatively recently (early December). Still unable to retrieve her car, my friend was forced to leave it there, allowing Bill the chance to claim that he was working on it (despite the fact that every time we drove by it the 2 feet of snow that had built up had obviously never been disturbed). Bill left doors and windows open, as well as the hood, allowing environmental damage to build up over the two months as ice crept inside the vehicle. Additionally, M's iPod is missing from her car, and while we can't prove that he took it... we wouldn't be surprised at this point. When we finally had the ability to confront him about what he had done, his actions were absolutely disrespectful and unnecessary. We called a tow truck to remove the vehicle from premises, at which point Bill ran out of his shop and started yelling at the tow truck driver, threatening that he was going to call the cops (because that's what all sane men do... right). The driver was startled, and Bill would hardly let us explain that we were waiting to close out business with him before we passed it onto the tow. We requested that Bill explain and show to us what he had done to the vehicle, and he refused to tell us or show us anything (the best answer we received was that he exchanged a part, which we still have no proof that it was even replaced). We explained to Bill that we only wanted to know because we felt that he hadn't done anything and was cheating M out of her money. He still refused and threatened to keep the car and sell it at auction. As we tried to communicate with him, his lack of professionalism and respect grew increasingly scarce, insulting us and skirting any effort to explain his part. He constantly contradicted his own answers, stating one moment that he was charging her $55 and the next stating that he was charing her $110 and $220 and back to $55 and back to $110. NOTHING he said made ANY sense. It was like talking to a deranged druggie unable to keep his facts straight as he nervously bounced from one topic to the next. He shouted multiple times, "well that's your fault, this is how business works... just pay me and don't come back!" Really Bill? Is that your business practice? Pathetic. At the end, M paid him the $110 for apparently nothing simply to end the headache. The tow truck driver, a blessing of a man, shook our hands and laughed, "I've never heard anything good from that shop." Needless to say, we're all shocked that Bill's Birdhouse Garage is still in business. My guess is that he only survives because he takes advantage of desperate tourists during the summer (classy!. No local has anything good to say of him. Save your money and time and get your car towed to Anchorage from the start. read more

We had the unfortunate luck of losing a trailer tire on the Turnagain Arm just outside of Girdwood on a nice, summer day. This place was the only one to answer the phone & subsequently the only place to offer any assistance. Having agreed to being willing and able to replace the tire for us, we pulled it into his lot. The whole interaction, from start to finish, was just bizarre though. I'm not sure if the man who works and lives at this place is mentally ill or just has extremely poor manners, but no sooner had we pulled in than he began yelling at me multiple times and just acting kind of weird. He even texted me after we left his premises to tell me, "thanks for wasting my time I could have been spending with my family!" We chose not to do business with him after being verbally assaulted multiple times. And all this over bringing the camper to HIM! Apparently he wanted us to unhook and just bring the tire?! I don't really know. We instead hobbled the camper to the nearest gas station and put some fix-a-flat to work. I suppose he wasn't too happy about that. read more
