Birdie's Blackened Unicorn - Perfection on a Plate I loved this dish! The fish get their name from a distinctive horn or spike protuberance on their head. You don't see this because the fish is now a filet. The meat has a firm yet flaky texture that is mild, slightly sweet with a clean taste. Think of it like a cross between snapper and mahi mahi. It comes lightly blackened but you can request different when ordering. The garnish is a topper of spiraled fried carrot and a tablespoon of avocado salsa. It has the flavors of guacamole but more of a texture similar to a chunky salsa. I could have used a little (lot) more. It's yummy and a good foil for the blackening spices. The rice is served plain. If you don't care for bare rice, ask for a gravy or a sauce when ordering. All in all, an excellent dish! So, when you come here, do look for UNICORNS! They are delicious! - read more

We've come 2 weeks in a row! We live across the river but our children have sports in Middleburg and we were looking for something to eat. We decided to give Birdies a try. The first time, my husband had the smash burger and fries and my son had the same thing but the children's portion. Both raved about their meal. I had the mushroom steak burger bowl, it was delicious sitting atop white rice with brown gravy and green beans. The next time, both husband and son ordered the same thing and I switched it up to try the meatloaf stacker, wow! Once again, the meal was delicious and paired it with the corn casserole. I can't rave about this place enough. We ended the meal with homemade strawberry cake, another winner!! The service is wonderful, everyone is attentive and wants to make sure you're taken care of. Waters refilled, which is a rarity these days and food was served prompt. Although small, Birdies is mighty with flavor, service and cute decor! From the cuckoo clocks on the wall to the bird theme throughout, it's definitely welcoming and cozy and not that sterile vibe you get from some establishments. Looking for good food with an eclectic mix of food choices, then Birdie's is a great choice. We got there late, around 7 pm so there was a little bit of a wait. However, it was well worth the 20 minutes to get a table. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Service was excellent and friendly. Although, we personally didn't get alcohol, I did notice they served wine and beer. I had the crispy Portobello tacos and they were fabulous! My husband had the crispy chicken sandwich, which was also delicious. The chicken was moist and the batter they used was yummy. The desserts are homemade and the portions given are enough to definitely share. We didn't indulge ourselves with dessert this evening, but will be back and we'll make sure to leave room for some cake or pie. read more

What a wonderful experience, from a comfortable setting to amazing fresh food made with something that most restaurants lack! HEART and Passion. The owners were even on site to talk little about the journey in opening a restaurant with some flavors of South Florida and great comfort food, mixed with down to earth service from people who have smile on their face and care. After seating, the first thing that stands out is a colorful full wall hand painted mural of the restaurant's name Birdies Birds. Started off with an appetizer of juicy Chicharrón followed by very tender and juicy Skirt steak marinated with a Latin flair with sautéed onions and a side of Black Beans & Rice with Maduro's. Overall.... I really enjoyed our visit. It is a small restaurant but packed with so much! The employees are welcoming, attentive, and helpful. The food was fresh and packed full of flavor. Omg I got the special Shrimp and Biscuit Bowl w/ portobello, mushroom, bacon, tomato, and red pepper sauce was off the chain. Hubby got the fried chicken scampi on rice and I thought he was going to lick the bowl. We enjoyed dinner so much that we took desert home. Grabbed the pearly butter pie to go! Tried out this cozy new spot with friends and left full and happy... Southern Comfort with a Sweet Twist mostly thanks to the food and the incredibly kind staff. We shared a few appetizers--mac & cheese, chicharrons, and the standout portobello fries. Those mushrooms were huge, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the gochujang aioli. For my main, I had the Chicken Fried Chicken Biscuit... served with mashed potatoes, country gravy, and a side of corn casserole. Everything was delicious, though I wish the corn casserole had been piping hot. My friends had the Southern Fried Spare Ribs and the Shrimp & Biscuit Bowl... both looked amazing and got thumbs up. Dessert is where this place really shines. We tried the Fried Bread Pudding, Triple Chocolate, and my personal favorite... the Banana Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream Icing. It was like banana bread but softer, sweeter, and absolutely addictive. The vibe is cozy and artsy, with a bird-themed mural that adds charm. It was full but not chaotic, and the owners, Jeff and Jo, were actively checking in to make sure everything was running smoothly. Jo's desserts are a must... trust me when they say "Dessert is NOT an option." Service was friendly and enthusiastic, though a few kinks are still being worked out. My soda barely had ice, and the sweet potato haystack garnish on the mains felt a bit out of place... right in the middle of the plate and not really edible. Just discovered Birdie's Dinner & Dessert! I actually considered keeping this place a secret . Birdie's Dinner & Dessert in Middleburg is not to be missed. They open at 3 pm (think early dinner) and by about 4 pm they're packed. Two in our party had the fried grouper tacos. The toppings were fresh and the crispy grouper was fried to perfection. I had a pork loin sandwich on a soft brioche bun with a side of fresh Brussels sprouts. But the real gems here are the desserts! Jo, the manager, gets there early every morning and bakes luscious layer cakes, pies, cheesecakes, banana puddings, strawberry shortcakes and more delectable treats. We shared a piece of banana layer cake and Jo kindly brought over a serving of the best bread pudding I've ever tasted, served warm with a lovely sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I got an order of meat loaf and mashed potatoes to go for hubby, and a slice of apple pie cheesecake. Heaven on a plate, and these desserts are less than $6 each. Best value in town, but they sell out on Friday, so get yours while you can! Can't wait to go back! read more

That is the only thing I can think of that would be negative, but not really negative. Just confusing because you don't expect it to be such a dang, good restaurant! We went out to dinner on Wednesday evening with our friends, Debbie and Bruce, and had a very nice time at Birdie's Dinner and Dessert!!! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive with us!!! For appetizers we had the Fried Green Tomatoes and the Chicharones and both were delicious !!! I had the Fried Ribs with the Corn side and white beans, absolutely amazing !!! Albert had the Smothered Chicken dish, which he thoroughly loved !!! But I don't remember what Debbie and Bruce had ordered, but they were quite impressed with the food!!! I went on a whim to try out Birdie's and was glad I did! It's small inside but the portions are anything but small. I had the chicken friend chicken biscuit with the cucumber salad and a piece of chocolate silk cake. Half my meal and the cake had to be put in to go containers. I went to visit family in Middleburg and they took us to Birdies Dinner and Desserts, which was delicious. My husband got the grilled meatloaf stacker, he said it was amazing and ate the whole thing! I had the fried spare ribs (pictured) and they were so good. The star of the show however was definitely the desserts. We got a few things and all shared, the cake was moist and delicious and the fried bread pudding is a must try. Portions were big, in fact, most of us had to get to go boxes. The prices were also really crazy to me. You can't find a homemade delicious dessert for less than $10 anywhere, so I was definitely amazed when I saw every dessert offered was less than that. Best of all was the service, the owners here seem to really care about giving customers a good dining experience, and the server was super nice and welcoming. I wish I had taken more pictures, especially of the beautiful mural that was painted on the wall. It was a cozy hole in the wall mom-and-pop, and I wish we had restaurants like this in Miami. read more

Decided to try this place, and glad we did. It is very quaint inside and everything is bird themed. The staff was very friendly and attentive. My wife ordered the chicken fried chicken on a biscuit with a side of corn casserole, my son ordered the pork loin with a side of fries, and i ordered the meatloaf stacker with a side of white beans. For desert son had the strawberry cobbler, my wife had the banana pudding, and i had the peach cobbler. The dinners were very good. The corn casserole was on point with the little taste of cornbread in it. The mashed potatoes were superb. Everyone enjoyed the dinner. As far as deserts. The banana pudding was to die for. The cobblers were good but i watched the desert person assemble them and she put them in the microwave. It didnt heat them up. They were good, but cold. That was the only draw back.
