I've listened to Bird's surf report for a decade, and just hearing his voice makes me grin, even out in the desert, no waves in sight. On our recent visit back to San Diego, we decided what the hell, let's be tourists and go check out the shed. Lo and behold, there was Eric "Bird" Huffman, working on a board alongside his son Jackson and dogs Hector and Django. Total wildest-dreams moment when Bird came over and chatted with us, posed for pictures, and told us about the shop, with details about the original graphics artwork ("board barrel" and more). Absolute fun in every way, and he and Jackson were as gracious, funny, and all-around kind as they could be. Whether you're a surfer or just an admirer, stop in, talk with Bird, play with Hector and Django, and fill up on merch and sticker swag. Beyond the amazing boards, there are plenty of beach essentials to check out too. I walked away totally stoked, having met the legend behind the voice and geared up with a hat, shirts, and a poster and stickers (also picked up a few goods at the sister shop, the Shed OB). Coolest stop you can make in all of San Diego -- "wow" all the way!

"What just happened??" my son asked me as we walked out of Bird's, vintage surfboard tucked under his arm. We went to Bird's completely naive as to what we were going to experience. We met the nicest guy who told us all about Bird and his personal collection of 1,000+ boards. We learned history of SoCal surfing, where to surf, saw a surfboard signed by the Pope(!) and so much living history in surfboards and surf culture. My son's jaw hit the floor when we met Bird and was offered a vintage, pre-production board to borrow for a few days while we were in town. No rental, no credit card, just take it, surf, enjoy. Bird considers his quiver a library and lets people check out the boards. It was amazing and unlike any experience I've ever had. To non surfers this would be like taking the Mona Lisa to your house to see how she looks in your living room. I can not thank the crew enough. Amazing, amazing place full of history and stoke and mahalo.

Bought a board today at Bird's and Francois was so helpful! He answered all the questions I had and even the ones I didn't know to ask. He was knowledgeable about surf breaks on the east coast and helped me pick a board good for CA and VA surf conditions when I mentioned I was moving there. He even helped me search the web for specific fins and leashes when I had questions about other brands they didn't have in stock. He even recommended a movie to me and my friend we are watching right now:D

Best surf shop in San Diego. New to the surfing community here and the gents at birds were the best welcome I could ask for. Helped me fix up an old board that I had just bought and passed on great tips and wisdom along the way. Bird, George, Cooper and Hector were in and took phenomenal care of me. Can't wait to take my board out and come back soon.

I took my boyfriend there since he's a surfer and he love that place! The staffs are super cool & chill! They asked if anything we need and help ourselves look around to find any surfboard we like. A lot different brands, sizes and seem good price though! One of the staff gave us free sticker as souvenir and it was really nice of him! Have small parking lot at front or can park on street. Really rad artwork outside!

Bird is an avid water enthusiast, and gives back to the community. That alone speaks volumes. No matter what is going on, he always has time to answer questions about equipment. He is a super cool guy and treats kids like they are super stars!

Should I tell you about this place?? Well, if you did your homework, you would know this outlet is…read morehere. I needed to purchase a wetsuit as I am not about to let this summer go by and not get into the "warm" San Diego waters. Water temps are about as high as it gets for out here right now, like in low 70s, so for me, thats still cold. I need at least a 4/3 wetsuit for that temp. Yes, I am a pansy and I know it. This place has a really nice section for wetsuits and also some great sales too. I made a beeline for the back of the store to check out what they had available. They have short wetsuits, 3/2s, 4/3s, some with hoods (I like those), some front zippered and some back zipped (this is my preference), children's wetsuits, men and women's also. I already knew what I needed so only had to try on two wetsuits (that was already too much lol - you are ALWAYS fighting wetsuits). Fitting rooms available here and then I went to work battling the wetsuits. I could fit the size 4 but my shoulders are a bit broader and the zipper wasn't like easy to pull, so I went with the size 6. The cost for 4/3 wetsuit here was $150, a pretty good deal. I was just at REI looking at an O'Neill 4/3 and it was over $400! I also picked up some shorts and a bikini top and everything here is severely discounted. Sweet!! Service guy working here was super nice and helpful. He showed me the size chart for wetsuits and helped me get a fitting room and rung me up. Great place to get some water apparel here and know they have wetsuits too. They also have shoes here but not too many options in sizes. They also have bags and other items too (I forgot to look at a wetsuit hood they had on sale here - so will come back). Overall. this place was great! I'll be back! But know the parking is a disaster here, the lot is super tight, just FYI.

When we walked in, there was lots of sales being advertised on a lot of the racks when we walked in. Definitely makes a big difference since the clothing products here are definitely on the pricier end. My first time shopping at this retail store and they have a great selection related to swimwear!!! I was interested in buying a wetsuit and was also informed on the differences between the 4/3 and the 5/3 millimeters of the wetsuits. A 4/3 (4mm for the torso and 3mm for the arms) is better for moderate to cold water with higher flexibility, while the 5/3 is warmer and designed for colder, winter waters, and is slightly less flexible. My goal is to be warm as I don't want to feel too cold so I went with the 5/3. There's a good amount of fitting rooms that are good sized to be trying them on. My first time trying on wetsuits and I felt like a seal LOL!!! I purchased one but keep in mind that even with the clearance sale I got it for, it was $120+. My girlfriend tried finding bikinis but there was little sizing for her and lots of the two pieces were separated and the designs weren't matching so she didn't get any.
