Homemade everything! They have goat which I love and is hard to come by in the states. This is a local restaurant and you can watch them cook the tortillas while you await your meal. The service was quick. It's a cute little place that's partially covered and all adobe tile with yellow walls and tasteful artwork. Very cozy and authentic Mexican food. They have breakfast lunch and dinner. Cheap tacos, overall very reasonable prices for the amount of food you get. There's also a tree growing in the middle of the front of the restaurant. So cool!

Birria is the breakfast taco of Mexico because it cooks all night long. Very flavorful and juicy. Get there early as they run out every day!

This place is always packed, and for good reason. The food is very delicious. Lots of regulars every time I have come here. In fact, I'm usually the only gringo I'm the whole place. The service is prompt, and the food is very delicious, and for very reasonable prices too. I've been here several times, and will continue coming back.

Love specialty places that do only one thing so good that it brings in crowds. This is one such authentic "birria" (goat) place for locals and a gem. So glad I avoided the overpriced and mediocre touristic places to used limited dining opportunity to dine with the locals. Todo bien!

Food is amazing. One of the best birria places in PV. The staff is very friendly, and the place is clean.

Excellent food, especially the chilaquiles (definitely go with the green sauce). You can literally watch them make your tortillas after placing your order. It doesn't get fresher than that! Excellent bean dip too. Unfortunately they don't serve alcohol, but you can probably bring in your own.

Best tacos I had in puerto Vallarta! The soup is also delicious! If you don't go here you are missing out! Will definitely be back for more!

What? This place is sooooo good. The goat stew (birria de chiva) is awesome. Get the crispy tacos too. Beef and goat or mixed. Service can be slow. But the food is so good. Get there early because they can run out of goat meat.

The food was awesome and authentic. Very fair prices and chill place. Prepare to pay cash and speak some Spanish though.

At first, we panicked, but we persisted. The tacos were delicious and the service was attentive. Bathrooms were not clean, but you don't go there for the bathroom. The al pastor were fresh, juicy, tender, and delicious. Great flavor and lots of spice.

There are places that simply serve food--and then there are places that become part of your story…read more Pepe's Tacos is exactly that for me. Having come here since I was 10 years old, this iconic taquería isn't just a local favorite--it's a timeless institution that continues to define what truly exceptional tacos should be. Since 1987, Pepe's has built a reputation that extends far beyond Puerto Vallarta, and one visit is all it takes to understand why. The star of the show--their legendary tacos al pastor--is nothing short of extraordinary. The pork is expertly marinated and cooked to perfection, resulting in meat that is incredibly juicy, tender, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Each slice is carved with precision and layered onto warm tortillas, creating a perfect foundation for what comes next. What truly elevates these tacos is the balance of toppings. The sweetness of the pineapple and the sharpness of the fresh onions cut through the richness of the meat beautifully, enhancing every bite with contrast and complexity. It's a masterclass in simplicity done right--every ingredient playing its role to perfection. Beyond the food, the experience itself is just as memorable. The service is impressively fast and efficient, especially considering how popular this spot is, and there's an undeniable energy in the air that makes it feel alive at all hours. It's the kind of place you can count on for a late-night bite, where the atmosphere is casual, vibrant, and always welcoming. Pepe's Tacos isn't about reinvention or trend--it's about consistency, tradition, and delivering excellence time and time again. Decades later, it still holds its place as one of the best taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, and for good reason. Some things never change--and when they're this good, they absolutely shouldn't.

But. But, but, but... I would actually give La Madalena SIX stars. Service and ambiance were truly outstanding. Food was equally exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like honored guests. Servers were plentiful, professional, humorous and attentive. Our primary server was Alexis and his service was stellar - not only did he attend to our every request with a smile - he anticipated and was proactive. We also had a table side mixologist whose name escapes me (sorry!) but he was wonderful as well - making suggestions and creating specialty drinks on the fly. The staff made us feel like the only customers in the restaurant. Five of us succumbed to "eyes bigger than stomach" and ordered way too much food. We found the extensive menu both challenging (because *everything* sounded delicious) and exciting. Our favorites included (but were not limited to these because every dish we tried was outstanding): the Ceviche de Coliflor, Queso Fundido, Queso Quemado, Ensalada Verde con Vinagreta de Aguacate, and Beef Tenderloin for 2. Note that the presentation for the vast variety of steaks is quite impressive. All in all, they surpassed every single one of our expectations on this special night. I highly recommend you get yourself there and let the fine folks at La Madalena treat you right!

The restaurant sits directly on water and you're able to go out and enjoy the views before and/or after your meal. The staff was extremely pleasant. Inside the restaurant was very modern and chic, with a cool library theme. The restaurant itself is very upscale with a view of the kitchen as your meals are prepared. The food presentations were excellent and quality was nice but not my cup of tea for the entree (shrimp). I wish I could go back and reorder a steak or something different lol. It was just ok, but presentation made up for it! The bread was excellent and drinks were fun! I'd return but I highly recommend it for those wanting to get a change of pace from resort meals.

It's thicker, more cheesy than what I've ever had before and very delicious. We paired that with the prime rib tacos, it was a plate stacked with meat and 4 tortillas under it, more than we could eat. The seasoning was great, it was diced so small that it was easy to eat. The ribeye had so much fat that we had to pick through it just to eat it. The al pastor was very average - I've had much better at plenty of other taco spots. The biggest disappointment was the chorizo. It wasn't traditional chorizo at all; it looked and tasted more like chopped-up hot dogs. We barely touched it because it wasn't what we ordered expecting, and it just wasn't good. The presentation also wasn't appealing. The meat was simply piled on top of two tortillas, making everything messy and difficult to eat. They were also pretty stingy with the grilled jalapeños. The salsas didn't do the food any favors either. None of them really stood out, and the green guacamole salsa actually tasted like it had gone bad, so we stopped eating it. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive. Staff kept coming by every few minutes to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything. While I appreciate good service, it made us feel like we were being rushed through our meal instead of being able to enjoy it at our own pace. Overall, I don't understand the high ratings based on our experience. With so many amazing taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, this one didn't come close to meeting the hype. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.
