Hard for me to trust establishments where I can't see the kitchen. Got a little spoiled with my previous Indian restaurant where an open kitchen is visible and you can see the entire staff do their magic. But hey, this is what I have here in Irvine (so far). I usually get their special biryani with chicken. It includes rice, hard boiled egg and my preferred sauced protein. Only knock on their dish is their choice of protein. Chicken lacks meat on the bones and sometimes looks a bit "scrappy." If anything, I'd opt to get filets because most of the times I'd have to really pick through getting the meat. read more

This is a relatively small restaurant in a larger shopping center. You might say "a hole in the wall" - but WOW! Loved the food! You know it's authentic and good when Indian families come in for dinner. We ordered the Chilli Paneer and the Paneer Tikki Masala. The food was packed with flavor. I came here on a Thursday night. There looked to be a food display counter but it was empty. I used the QR code to look up the menu, but there weren't many pictures. I'm not too familiar with all the different Indian dishes so this is already an issue for me -- I don't really know what I'm ordering. I ended up ordering the House Special Goat Curry and the House Special Chicken Curry with medium spice. I ordered a garlic naan and a mango lassi with that as well. It took about 15 minutes for me to get my food. I tried the chicken curry first. The curry itself had great flavor, and the perfect amount of spice for me. The chicken was tender but a little bit dry. It was still a 4/5 dish to me. The goat curry was the same curry as the chicken curry but just with a different meat. There are a lot of tiny bones that I had to keep pulling out of my mouth. It was a little annoying, but I think the flavor of the dish outweighed the negative. A 4/5 dish to me. The garlic naan was very garlicky, so that was a huge plus to me! The mango lassi helped with the spice from the food and was good, but the portion seemed pretty small for the price. All in all, I think the food was good. If there were pictures or some food on display it would have made it easier for me to choose what to order. I would come and try this place again though after I educate myself on the different dishes. read more

The bright glow of the Biryani Pot Express sign has been up and unlit for months now - I've had my eyes on them since this summer so I was super excited to learn they finally opened this week!! I absolutely love biryani but can't seem to find a great place around the area - Biryani Pot Express exceeded my expectations and I will gladly come here again/tell all my friends and family :) I tried their garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and chicken dum biryani and it was all so so fresh flavorful and packed full of delicious spices! Had to wash it down with my favorite mango lassi and that was super good too. Really great portions as well as I split this with one other person and still have plenty of yummy leftovers to enjoy today. Had to wait a bit for my food but the freshness and quality of it made up for the wait time (I would suggest calling in an order and picking up to-go!) Really good biryani. I ordered the chicken biryani (there's one with bone-in and deboned). I opted for the deboned version. The chicken was my favorite part. The flavor was crazy and the chicken itself was super tender. Comes with a hard boiled egg too. I got medium spicy and it didn't send me over the edge. The portion is huge. You can definitely share this between two people. I was able to get 3 meals out of this. Also got a side of garlic naan ($3.99). Naan wasn't bad but the biryani was very filling so I didn't eat much of anything else. I'm not sure if it was the naan or biryani but it came with 2 sauces - the white one is addicting! There was no issue there, but after 30 minutes I waited in the restaurant for my order, thinking it would arrive promptly. But I had to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes inside the restaurant after the 30 minutes I had already waited in my car. On top of that, three people that ordered AFTER me, all got their order first. The absolute best Indian my friends and I have yet to find. We're from northern OC, but I work in Irvine. The food is so good, I'll often make the 30 minute drive back to Irvine on the weekends just to get the food! Hands down the best Butter Chicken and garlic naan. Also, the employees are very kind. We came in at a slow hour, so there was only one chef. Since the food is made to order, it took a bit to get to our table, but when it did, they apologized for the wait and even gave all four of us complimentary mango lassi!
