My friends and I went there last night for my birthday and it was definitely a treat. My boyfriend and I decided to share the Perfect Storm (which was a SEAFOOD FEAST of Lobster, King Crab, Oysters, & Shrimp, oh my) along with the Parmesan Risotto and boy oh boy it did not disappoint. The seafood was plentiful and cooked to perfection and was served with 2 dipping sauces that really enhanced the delicate flavors. One of my boyfriends' biggest pet peeves is going to a fine dining restaurant and being served small shrimp, well that certainly wasn't the case wIth our order or the Tempura Shrimp our friends ordered...they were all JUMBO shrimp and the portions are compensatory to the prices charged! In other words, you definitely got your moneys worth! Honestly, I was so focused on my order, I don't remember what else my friends ordered besides the Tempura Shrimp which everyone raved about, but I do remember they enjoyed the rest of their meal just as much. I must add that the Parmesan Risotto was so divine, it just melted in your mouth. I will definitely return to order the Lobster Risotto as I'm sure that will be just as exciting. We both ordered the Flourless Chocolate Cake to go (since the meal was so filling). The next day, I microwaved it for 10-15 sec and ate it topped with the accompanying whipped cream. It was fabulous, not to sweet, but just right (since I'm GF I don't get to have many dessert options and when a place has something I can eat, I will usually order it); however, my friend wasn't impressed with the dessert when she ate it. The evening was an absolute joy, service was spot on and super friendly and we will DEFINITELY be coming back as there are numerous menu items we can't wait to try. The only reason I gave this place an "OK" review was because of the patio. You can tell they took the time to choose the right furniture but it was cluttered with unused furniture and the bar is not utilized and is very dirty/dusty. It needs to be swept and cleaned a lot better. I was very surprised their outdoor area/bar is not utilized to its fullest potential. It could be great for happy hour. We switched our table from outside to inside which is much better. I love the decor. Their menu offers amazing array of eclectic choices and the food is superb. The service was friendly and prompt. Went to Bistr09 for supper with my Fiancé and had an AMAZING experience! The super friendly staff starting at the host stand. The young man who assisted us was extremely helpful and friend! So good forgot to take any pictures of the food! When a restaurant is so good you'd rather delve into the food rather than take a million pictures to post it truly shows how amazing a place can be. We went for my mother's birthday and I have to say this is the first time ever she didn't make a comment after that suggested some big or small quip about food or service. She was quite blown away by the whole experience. We started off with the muscles for the table. The portion was perfect to share with four people each of us got enough to savior the taste the slight briny taste of the muscles with the delicate wine sauce was a great start to the meal. My sister who is not a fan of seafood had the onion soup that was a part of her fixed price three course meal. The soup was divine! The robust depth of flavor within the broth accompanied by the delicate cooked down onions is by far the best onion soup in San Antonio. For the entrees my sister had the steak frites, my brother had the hamburger, my mom had the lobster risotto and I had the carbonara with quail. Because we came her specifically for my mom to have risotto we also got a side of Parmesan risotto for the table. The carbonara I can't recommend enough it had a hearty flavor and was loaded with peas mushrooms and bacon. I loved the added flare with the egg yolk in a half shell plated on top. The quail added on was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. My mom loved the risotto, one can't fathom how hard it is to find risotto on a menu in San Antonio. Bistro9 delivered the flavor and both the lobster and Parmesan were perfectly cooked. My sister loved her steak but found the sauce and vegetable side a little salty for her liking. The hand cut fires were hot on arrival and perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside My brother thoroughly enjoyed his burger the mixture of elk and beef was seasoned well and had great flavor. The only thing he didn't enjoy and mind you this is more his personal taste was the plating. The fries presented in a basket on a wood plank was a little cumbersome for him. Being 6'4 with a large arm span and the smaller square table he felt the fry basket was limiting his space and he kept hitting it with his arm when he was eating. To cap off the delicious meal and another reason we came for my moms birthday was the creme brûlée. It is my moms most favorite desert and if you think you can find a better one in SA then at Bistro9 your mistaken. The custard was rich with vanilla and slightly warm from the carmelized cap of sugar. My mother is tempted to go multiple times a week just for dessert. My sister had a chocolate mousse that came with her fixed price three course meal. The mousse was lush with rich chocolate flavors and sprinkled with little chocolate chips throughout for added bite and flavor. Bistro9 is a gem! If you haven't gone yet you need to this is by far the best French food in the San Antonio and greater San Antonio area. read more

Its a beautiful restaurant... food is amazing and the wine list was superb. Everything from the appetizer to dessert was delicious. However... when I make a reservation and show up on time I expect to be seated. I had a reservation last month, I showed up and the hostess seated a couple who showed up late for their reservation after telling them they couldn't because the woman was pouting. They were given our table... I know this because when I told her the name on our reservation she picked up a menu to cover her face while explaining what she'd just done to another woman because apparently the menu blocks sound. We had to wait at the bar... no complimentary cocktails were offered. We were given a table against the wall behind the bar. It was extremely uncomfortable. Still never received an apology . The pouter ended up leaving 14 minutes after being seated.... I will never return. read more

This is our fav French restaurant in SA. The escargot with pesto and butter is worth the trip. The entrees are really good, not great, we've never been wow'd but we've never been disappointed. Desserts are really good, I suggest the creme brûlée, but I have them all and they're all pretty great. It's French comfort food, with a nice selection of various wines. I was a little worried after reading some reviews but we had a lovely dinner at Bistro09. My mom remarked upon walking in that the restaurant was very pretty, which it is. We were greeted and sat promptly with a reservation. The restaurant was mostly full on a Wednesday evening with an older crowd. My husband and I definitely brought down the median age. They have a wine list with plenty of bottle options under $50. Our server helped us pick a nice bottle of French wine. We all ordered the pre fixe menu which at $38 for 3 courses is a great deal. There are 3 starter, 3 entree and 2 dessert choices. I had the onion soup, steak frites and creme brûlée. Everything was done well and my steak was cooked perfectly medium rare as ordered. If you're looking for a nice, quality meal then this is your place. They just aren't doing anything particularly interesting or different. read more

Frozen fries, steak tasted par cooked and flashed to order, my husbands burger was tasteless (was told frites were extra charge, conflicts menu), chocolate mousse was lumpy and presumably from a dry mix. I loved Bistro Vatel. This is my second visit to Bistro 09. The food is excellent, however, on my second visit, the waiter brought the wrong entree to one of our guests. The waiter apologized and had the correct entree brought after the rest of us were having our dessert. The waiter apologized and said we would not be charged for the entree. When we received our bill, the entree was on the bill. When we questioned the charge, the waiter apologized and stated that the chef said that we would be charged. The chef said that since we eventually got the correct entree , we would not be comped! I even ordered a second glass of wine so that my guest would feel comfortable eating her entree. This is NOT about the money, this is about the principle!! We talked to the waiter AND the manager who said that they had no control over the matter! The Good: Very friendly waiter, nice staff (other than hostess), pate and foie gras were very well done. Wine selection is decent. The Bad: Hostess was exceptionally rude, asked us, "what do you want?" Server, while nice, was extremely misinformed about the menu and admitted he didn't know the specials. He recommended an non french dish as the best on the menu. He also recommended the oysters, they were out of them. Main course was a disaster I ordered the quail with risotto. Quail was decent. Risotto resemble an undercooked rice crispy treat and tasted worse than that, veggies undercooked. My date asked the waiter how the duck was cooked, he said medium rare. The Duck came out well done, we sent it back, it came back well done, we sent it back, came back rare, sent it back and decided to try a pizza, it was under cooked. If you're going to claim to be the best french restaurant in a city; I'd focus on making sure that you understood french food. I would only recommend this place to somebody that I was pranking or not fond of. read more

I was excited to try this restaurant ,since I was a fan of Bistro Vatel. I was very disappointed and surprised at my sub par meal and that of my guest. Our Pork Loin Scalloppini Truffle Mushrooms and Pasta was missing any hint of truffle, and the sauce, well, it tasted canned. Honest. The flavor was nothing special. It was a boring plate of food. I will say my dessert of ILe Flottante was delicious though. I was hoping the Sweetbreads from Bistro Vatel would make it onto this menu, but no such luck. read more

I was very excited to give this new neighborhood restaurant a try seeing as my family lives less than 5 minutes away. Not to mention it being the first new restaurant to inhabit the old l'étoile space. Unfortunately our experience did not meet, or even come close to meeting what our expectations were for this establishment. The menu seems tired, old, and boring. Every entree is served with the same sad lethargic group of boiled vegetables that make the presentation of the plates seem thoughtless and lazy. The only redeeming part of our meal was the French onion soup which was quite delicious. My personal entree, which was the steak frites, actually came out cold as if it had been sitting for far too long before it was served. The steak was fine, nothing special but I would be surprised if the frites weren't actually freezer to fryer from a bag. If you want steak frites, take your business to La Frite in Southtown for the real deal. Overall, I'm sad to say that we probably won't be returning to what could have been a regular neighborhood spot for us. There is much better classic French fare to be had in San Antonio. read more

First, the place looks great. Comfortable patio, the interior is light and bright with high ceilings, exposed brick, and a prominent marble-topped bar with canary yellow bar stools. I thought the food was all on point. A bibb salad was simple and fresh, with a delicious basil dressing. Carpaccio wasn't paper thin, but was delicious with capers and olives. Classic steak frites were done right. Also tried the grilled quail that was accompanied by a flavorful risotto. Service was attentive without being intrusive. All in all, a wonderful dinner. I started coming to San Antonio regularly for work this past October. Since then, I've been on the hunt for a nice, non-chain restaurant that wasn't too expensive for a dinner. I have finally found it. Bistro09 is a lovely establishment. I had the Seared Tuna Nicoise Salad, with a glass of white wine, and some of the table bread. When the salad was put in front of me, I said, "Wow, that's lovely!" to the waiter. Because it was! It was served deconstructed and everything looked fresh and beautiful...perfectly dressed greens, a egg cut in half, roasted seasoned potatoes, Kalamata olives, sliced red tomato, crisp green beans, and a generous portion of seared tuna. It was light and clean. The table bread is yummy - crisp on the outside and warm/chewy on the inside. I had to stop myself at one piece so I could finish the salad. The only change I'm going to make to my order next time is to ask for an extra small cup of the dressing that they use on the greens. It would have been nice to have some of that on the tuna. Additionally , my waiter was wonderful and attentive. Since it was snowing in Michigan when I left that morning, I sat on the patio and enjoyed this delicious meal al fresco in the 79 degree weather with a light breeze. Absolute perfection. Had an excellent meal here last night. The restaurant wasn't full (Wednesday - so, expected) and the host offered to seat us in the bar area which is roomy and open and had a little more action. We really appreciated that. The menu is reasonably priced and the quality of the food was great. Steamed artichoke appetizer and steak was cooked perfectly. The service was perfect and, most importantly, my wife gave a big thumbs up to her French 75s from the bar. We will be back to try more from this menu! read more

The pate was outstanding as was the steak steak tartare but the atmosphere was stained, literally, with water stains on the walls and little ants on our table. As for the ants, I asked with waitress if we could be moved and they did so. I really like the food but they just need to work on the ambience. Had brunch here and it was fantastic! Reminded me a lot of a cute European restaurant. Recommend the eggs and prosciutto, eggs Benedict, and fried chicken "lollipops".
