"French Nachos" are created with hand sliced potato chips hearty enough to hold up to a layer of raclette cheese gently melted with salami and crowned with crisp lettuce. Went there for restaurant week. They served me a steak that was so tough it was inedible. Someone in the kitchen had already cut it into pieces after it was plated. No wonder. It was difficult to cut, much less eat. The pieces were held together with tendon that I literally could not cut with the steak knife. I sent it back and did get some pork that was Okay. And their purple Peruvian carrot was too tough to stab with the times of the fork. I've never Had an experience like that. I've been served more tender meat on the street in Mexico. If I hadn't been with friends I would have left. I don't intend to give it a second chance. read more

Newest French restaurant to hit the San Antonio scene, replacing L'Etoile, and was really excited to give it a try. Came the night of Black Friday, restaurant was nearly empty which explained why there were so many open reservation spots. Started off the meal with the foie gras pate. My first time trying frozen foie gras, did not expect it. It provided a more subtle flavor that's definitely a bit easier to stomach for those that are newer to foie gras. Went really well with their orange sauce and the onions. Definitely recommending. The grilled quail and Parmesan risotto was good but disappointing. Quail was too salty but the meat was soft, juicy and grilled softly. Risotto was nothing out of the ordinary. Vegetables were okay, boiled? Duck L'Orange? This was good. Meat is somewhat tougher than I expected but it was cooked to a good percentage which makes me say yum. Seasoning was also not too salty like the quail. One thing to point out, the tiled area outside the restroom and kitchen was extremely slippery. Felt like I was walking on ice and didn't see a warning sign. read more

I came in to Bistro09 tonight with some friends, and I am glad that we made the choice to be here tonight. The food was excellent, and the company couldn't be better. We started the evening with a few appetizers: escargot, mussels, and an order of the sautéed foie gras. The mussels were amazing, and all of us wished we had more bread to soak up the broth! It was bright, garlicky, and just simply delicious. The escargot was delicious, though may be a little on the salty side. I think we were a little disappointed by the size of the foie gras dish (it was a very small portion compared to the price), but the flavor was nice. The toast on which the foie gras rested was a little but too charred and dominated the delicate sweetness of the foie gras. After some decision making, we ordered our entrees: poulet roti au jus, lobster risotto, steak frites, pork loin scalloppini, Dover sole meunière, and the spaghetti carbonara with quail. Each dish had wonderful flavors as we all got to try a little if each other's entrees and also the two that were shared by the table. The lobster risotto was absolutely delicious. The risotto itself had such a depth of flavor from the seafood broth they used and the lobsters were sweet, succulent, and perfectly grilled. The carbonara was pretty good, and the quail and quail egg were nice additions. I will say, though, that it's not as good as some of the spaghetti carbonara dishes I've had in Italy (in fact, very few places in the US have made the dish the way I remembered it from Rome and Tivoli!). The sole was delicious, but I was disappointed that it wasn't presented liked the way it was shown in the movie Julie and Julia. I think that would have added to the presentation and made it worth the price tag! Also, I was missing the brown butter sauce a bit (there was sauce that came on the sole, but it's not what I was expecting). We finished the night by sharing a creme brûlée. Overall, I'd say we had a good time and will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu! read more

WORST DINING EXPERIENCE IN SAN ANTONIO! We were there for brunch, 1 PM on Father's Day. Dr. Lorraine Barnes, a long time pediatrician in town highly recommended this place, saying she was personal friends with the chef owner. Adequate parking, nice patio and the bar area was exceptionally nice. we had a party of five and sat in the dining room which also was very nice. This is when things started going bad. Our waiter was rude from the start. We were not served the bread until we finally asked and we were told that it was still being baked. Really? Then they served four small half slices of bread when there were five of us in our party. The brunch food prices were very reasonable, we had no complaints about the cost. I ordered shrimp tempura that was the worst tempura I have ever tasted in my life. It was three soggy deep-fried shrimp on a bed of greens. We are from Hawaii and we know good Japanese tempura as we have had it for many years. This was more like soggy deep Fried shrimp from an Applebee's restaurant. If the chef does not know what Japanese tempura is, then he should not be serving it. The other dishes were OK, but seem to be more on the side of presentation then quality of food. Before we were finished, the waiter suddenly started cleaning up our table. I was eating bread and he took the bread dish right out from under me. I stopped him and he quite obviously glared at me and brought back another bread plate but gave me no butter knife. Another lady in our party had the salmon dish. She actually had a bite of food on her fork when he suddenly took the plate from under her. My wife quickly stopped him and I told him to stop hurrying us. This resulted in more long staring glares that all of us saw at the table. I am not sure we ever will return to this restaurant. read more

Overrated and overpriced are the two words I would use to describe BISTR09. I had the red snapper, an off the menu special. It was over cooked and dry although it was served with a sauce that was very tasty. The red potatoes were good too. My wife had the lobster risotto. Her risotto had cherry tomatoes and celery in it. She didn't care for the taste so she didn't eat it. Her lobster was also over cooked. The couple we were with enjoyed the escargot and the Dover sole but not the duck breast L orange. Our waiter, Justin was very good and saved the evening but as good as he was, the food just wasn't what it should have been so we won't be back. read more

Host and wait staff dressed and act professionally with top-notch service. Nice outdoor patio, too. Can only do 4 stars though because I went for brunch with friends and the croc monsieur had too much bread and was slightly burnt, and although they have as espresso machine, they don't know how to make an iced latte. Booked a 9pm reservation for my family after graduation ceremony, ended up having to call and push it back by about 10 minutes, and they were very accommodating. Even barely an hour before closing, the dishes were delicious as well as beautiful, and the staff was friendly, making the overall experience amazing. Our Beef Carpaccio was also frozen on one side of the plate, not cold.....icy...Our glass of wine and beer took 20 minutes to make it to our table, only after my husband had to get up and get from the bar. Our appetizer came with our two entrees around 50 minutes after we ordered. They kept apologizing and were very polite but the service was very slow and $150. dollars later we were irritated and still hungry. So disappointed in our experience. We have been wanting to try this place so we figured tonight we would stop in. The place was almost empty and they asked if we had reservations. We didn't make any thinking on a Thursday in San Antonio who needs them. When we asked to eat they said there were only 2 tables available in the bar. I asked that all these other tables are taken. The hostess was rude and said no reservations no table. We walked out. Too bad! Because we eat out a lot and love in Terrill hills close by. Guess we will take this new place off the list. read more

What a lovely find! This French restaurant has excellent food which is very authentic. I enjoyed fois gras pate which was served on a board with toast, salad, slices of apple, grapes berries, figs and fig jam. It was delicious! I enjoy a glass of Trimbach Pinot Blanc with my meal. The entree was duck with orange sauce which was accompanied by lovely vegetables. I really enjoyed myself. On Thursdays through Saturdays they have a special - wood fired pizza. Many people seemed to be enjoying that. I would return here gladly! read more

We had a happy hour here. The wine was $14 ! No at happy but you can order one appetizer per drink for one dollar. I got six raw oysters on a half shell which was $6 dollars. This has been the best meal I've had since I was able to travel to New York. All the dishes were prepared to perfection. The ambience and the service were excellent. The wine list is great but needs better presentation/folder or something. We had four in our dinner Party and we somehow ordered same dishes-duck breast in orange sauce and stuffed quail. Our appetizer of octopus portion was small but tasty. We also splurged and ordered a bottle of Chateau Mongravy which paired perfectly with both dishes. The deserts were out of the world. They are homemade not from premise frozen boxes. You have to try the mango cheesecake which is very light but incredibly mango-ie. The apple tart tasted like the apples were just picked 10 minutes ago and the crust just made 5 minutes ago. Delicious and compliments to the chef!! read more

We placed our reservation. We arrived only 5 minutes late. They had plenty of open tables. In our reservation we specified that we were celebrating my mother's birthday. The Hostess , super nice and polite girl apologized that they have gaven our table away to the OWNER. She offered us to have dinner at the bar area. We started to stit at bar area and I told Hostess we will only take tge drinks menu as we were going to enjoy a cocktail while we wait for our table to be ready. They apologized for the confusion, which there wasn't any on oir end , and they took us to our table within 5 minutes of waitingat the bar. Mind that they still had 6 open tables in the diningroom. As we are sitting down in our table, the server very rudely tells the hostess that they have been saving that table for a special guest. As we heard that we didn't know if we should sit or not there. We also were hoping for that server not to be our waiter for the evening, so our experience wouldn't be sour. As a 20 year service industry professional I ignored the comments but my mother couldn't help to feel uncomfortable. Not what I wanted for her to feel on her special day. Service was decent. Food was delightful. I ordered us a few cocktails as aperitif to start. Then we ordered appetizers, entrées for each one of us. We were planning to also order a bottle of wine with the entrées, but appetizers were rushed and they brought out our entrées. At end the meal we ordered desserts, espressos and an after dinner drink. Not your typical table of 2 of course. Ok strike 2 lady.... first was her comment while we were sitting down and then this. I thought she may have realized she judge us too quickly at the beginning , and she may have had a come to Jesus that we would be a high spending table. All rest of service was recovered until check was brought without asking for it. Super rude. And the worst of my pet peeves to hover around within 2 minutes and ask if I signed check or pretend you didn't realized I signed it and attemptedto pick it up. We are still enjoying our desserts, our coffee and after dinner drinks, seriously whats the rush ? So anyways, place is beautiful, reservation system doesn't matter because they wanted to sit us athe bar, and a rushed service with lack of hospitality touch from server. I made a yelp account for something else today but while I'm on here I have to review Bistr09. I went here yesterday for my girlfriend's birthday dinner and it was probably some of the best food I've had in a restaurant...ever. She agreed as well. I had their Restaurant Week Prix Fixe and she had their regular Prixe Fixe. While my pronunciations missed the mark, the food definitely did not. The last time I can remember having a dinner this good was when I went to Alinea in Chicago. That place has 3 michelin stars. Needless to say, Bistr09 is somewhere that I have recommended to nearly everyone in the last 24 hours. It's an amazing experience tucked away in an unassuming location. The interior decor is amazing and warm. The service is fantastic. There's no air of pretension at all. When I had my food, the first thing I said to my girlfriend was that the chef clearly loves what they do. Frankly, I would come back and pay double. This place knocked my socks off. read more
