Food was delicious. Steak was cooked to medium. The truffle fries were my favorite. Flavors were great every bite. The service at check in could have been better when our reservation was for 6pm and they gave away our table which caused us to wait a little longer. We sat outside for dining. Bistro 31 is a high-end restaurant right in the heart of Highland Park Village. I had a reservation for lunch. We were seated rather quickly. It was a busy Sunday afternoon, so only a 10 minute wait. On our way to the table, we were greeted by a beautiful white table clothed table for two. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. He asked us what drinks we wanted to order and if we had any questions. My friend ordered the Bistro Margarita, and I ordered the famous Chanel No. 31. My friend said she would give the Bistro Margarita a 3.5/5. I would give the Chanel No. 31 a 4/5. It was very delicious with hints of peach which I love. Then we ordered an appetizer - the mini lobster tacos. It came with 3 tacos to share. The lobster was good. It was very light and perfect before the main course. For our entrees, my friend ordered the grilled salmon that came with english pea puree, artichokes, carrots, salmon calviar, and lemon butter. She liked her dish. I ordered the asparagus risotto with salmon added to it. It was supposed to come with shaved truffle. They made the risotto perfectly well cooked. But there were no truffle shavings. I was told by the server that the chef did not want to buy any truffle this season. However, they did somewhat compensate by giving me truffle oil on my dish. They are quick to accommodate. I was charged the full price of the dish without the truffle shavings (which the waiter did not tell me about until my food came to the table), and I paid $3 extra for the truffle oil added on to my dish. This is why I am giving the restaurant 3/5 stars. The menu should have been updated or expressed to me before I ordered my dish. My friend and I ordered two white cosmos. They were really good. Then we shared a dessert - the chocolate torte bar. It had a rich chocolate flavor paired with red cherry coulis. I probably would try a different dessert next time. Lastly, I had an expresso martini to go with the dessert. It was very strong and paired well with the chocolate torte bar. Overall, I would say that the experience was good. But expect to pay a lot of money for the location versus the actual meal you receive. read more

Thank you so much to Bistro 31 for helping me celebrate my birthday this past week. If you're at all from Dallas area then you know this restaurant has a built up reputation among locals. It was my first visit ever and let me say I'm only disappointed I didn't come sooner. The entire wait staff was so attentive and sweet to me and my guests...they were so kind made any request so accomdating. The chef even came out and greeted our table before we made it upstairs to the lounge. We stayed longer than planned because we were having that good of a time. We went during a busy Sunday brunch and they offered to seat us upstairs at the lounge as it has the same menu and the downstairs restaurant was full. I ordered the lobster bisque and lemon ricotta pancakes, my partner ordered the burger and we shared the sticky toffee date cake for dessert. The food can be described as "not bad" - my pancakes did not come with any of the toppings described on the menu and the server said she'd come back with them but we ended up having to ask another server to bring it, then once again when I was only brought syrup and whipped cream. By the time I had all of my food it was cold, my partner had already finished their burger, and it would've taken even longer to get their attention again. Disappointing to simply hear "yes we have that!" when I asked if it comes with the compote and whipped cream as listed on the menu rather than accountability for an incomplete meal. The ambiance in the upstairs lounge is loud, they have a DJ for music so it is nice for socializing but also very crowded. We were also charged extra for what I assume is for ordering food at the lounge, which we were not informed about. Overall an average restaurant, it would be nice if they had more attentive service. I would guess that it's better to have a reservation for the actual restaurant if you want a decent dining experience. read more

They keep getting better! This does not happen often in Dallas where most restaurants flourish and fail. I will give most of that credit to Alberto Lombardi who created and continues to nurture this great venue. Why the improvement comment? Whenever I'm in Dallas for Kips Bay showhouse I come for late lunch early dinner at least once if not twice. Their pastas are house made and delicious. My favorite is the boar bolognese. My favorite dessert is the olive oil cake. Fun place to people watch too. read more

I was definitely expecting a better experience considering location and cost. Our waitress was very nice but it didnt feel like fine dining to me. The features had to be read from her book & I felt like we were being hovered over. I did enjoy the fittura & halibut however, the Caesar lacked flavor & dressing. Normally breakfast is only served during the weekends. Everything from the appetizer, entree to dessert was top notch! Our server, John, was very attentive without being intrusive. Michael Bratcher, General Manager, was very friendly and even stopped by our table to ask if we were enjoying our meal. Was visiting from out of town and wanted a place to catch-up with friends. The art deco-style that the entire shopping center is enveloped in really transports you from Texas heat to European villa, but unfortunately the quality of the food does not match with the upscale aesthetic of Highland Park Village. To share, we ordered the Bistro Mussels and the Hand Cut Papparadelle with Short Rib Ragu. The mussels were average/decent but nothing of note. We requested some bread to sop up all the sauce, but sadly it never arrived and our dishes were whisked away. Quite odd for a restaurant to boast of embodying French/European flavors but not offer bread (we saw other tables with bread baskets though). Our main was the Hand Cut Papparadelle with Short Rib Ragu which was arguable the worst thing I tasted in Texas my entire trip. Very underwhelmingly seasoned and when our server asked us how our meal was and we were honest that it wasn't good, it was met with a somewhat lukewarm apology but no offer beyond that. Sad stomach = sad review. Overall, Bistro 31 left a disappointing taste in my mouth - literally and figuratively. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and I definitely won't be back. read more

I do frequent Bistro 31 and generally have pretty good service but last week when I went in I believe I was a little more demanding given I'm counting macros which leads to many additional questions. Our waiter, Rafael was absolutely tremendous, his attitude, service, and just overall a great person. He didn't act inconvenienced when I asked what the % was on the burger and he found out within 2 minutes for me. Water glasses were always full and he checked on us frequently. The crowd encompasses pretty, open minded people of all demographics. Although there's no room to really dance, the DJ still keeps you moving. Our Bartender Cameron, went out of his way to insure we found the perfect Japanese Whiskey for the night, and even severs, like Ari made our having a good time her priority. One of the challenging endeavors of using a dining space to create a party vibe is the comfort of the furniture. Lovely service! I've been here twice, first with daughter and second with husband to meet friends. Both times for brunch. The only negative is they do a poor job of social distancing. I know how my friends are quarantining, but not the table barely 3 feet from me. But, everything else.... The service both times was excellent, from the hostess to the servers and even the bartender who sent us a drink on the first visit. First visit we had the Caesar and the Chop salad, both fresh and delicious. On to Tagliolini and Baked Eggs Florentine. The tagliolini was so good, I managed to get a couple of bites from my daughter's plate. Lighter than I expected but rich in flavor. I'm always in search of baked eggs with spinach ever since my husband's family's restaurant served it years ago. This was very good, flavorful with lots of spinach. Loved the prosciutto in the dish also. The cocktails are unique and sparkly and delicious! Second visit we ordered lots of mimosas with Eggs Benedict and husband ordered a tuna dish. Can't remember exactly, but it was not what he was expecting. He liked it well enough, but there were so many other items on the menu that he normally would choose and probably will next time. On one of these visits we had the crab cake and it was excellent as well, with lots of crab and very little filler to hold it together. Awesome!! The second visit during restaurant week and Bistro 31 was an over the top experience again. Although we ordered from the restaurant week menu, their evening dinner menu offered several killer choices of seafood, steak, and appetizers. We were a party of four for this outing and the ladies ordered the lamb chops, I tried the halibut, and my good friend ordered the bone in filet. Wow, we all sampled each others meal and every item was cooked to perfection. The beef was lightly seasoned and grilled to perfection, the halibut tasted very fresh and was lightly pan seared, and the lamb chops were slightly charred and amazing. I will not mention the gazpacho as I would start drooling on my keyboard. This is the very best gazpacho that I have had in Dallas! Oh my the desserts were also over the top, as we all sampled the s'mores cake and olive cake. Yum! Bistro 31 is located in Highland Park Village, so there is always a nice parade of people watching. Honestly the worst meal I've had in a long time. I started with the calamari which came out lukewarm and gooey. It tasted like a dried up slug mixed with milk and earwax. Then I had the rainbow roll and spicy ceviche. Both were very fishy and awkwardly presented. The atmosphere is kind of stale and the service was pathetic. I recommend they go back to the drawing board with this concept, or just shut it down. I'm embarrassed for them. read more
