Excellent experience at Quarter Acre. Our waiter recommended the salmon and assured us that we couldn't go wrong. He was correct. Arguably best salmon in Dallas. They served some incredible sourdough and butter. There is an open kitchen, but it doesn't feel like the restaurant is watching the kitchen, it feels like the kitchen is keeping a careful eye on the dining room and making sure everything goes well. We ended the evening with gelato across the street (although I'm sure QA has amazing dessert) and are excited to replicate this perfect date night itinerary again. read more

Overall a good experience. Good ambiance, but the tables were a bit small and close together. We had the 7-course dinner with wine pairing. The attentiveness of the waitstaff and timing of the courses was all perfect. However, I noticed vast differences from how courses were described to us vs. how they were described to other tables by us. I also noticed that not all courses were the same from one table to the next. At first, I was confused by some of the wine pairings. However, it mostly all worked out course to course. While the food was mostly good, there were numerous inconsistencies both between the plates on our table and from what I noticed on other tables. My husband and I celebrated our fourth anniversary at Quarter Acre this year and the experience was phenomenal! It's been on our list for many years so we were so glad to finally be able to try it and are already looking forward to coming back. It wasn't too busy on a Thursday night, so the hostess sat us at one of the circular 4-tops so we'd have a bit more room. We had perfect lighting coming in during golden hour for most of the meal, so the photos I snapped on my phone ended up turning out amazing. The whole experience was great from start to finish including all the staff and servers that stopped by to bring out and explain the dishes. We went with the full tasting menu since we were celebrating and it was a wonderful introduction to the restaurant's food. Our cocktails were great too; I really enjoyed my piña colada milk punch and my husband's cucumber highball & tarragon sour were both super refreshing. The tasting menu began with some light bites. The sourdough & fried oysters were delicious but we were most impressed by the panisse with trout roe: super light, not too greasy, crisp outside and creamy inside with some lovely brine from the roe. The second course may have been my favorite of the night -- the kingfish ceviche was a perfect balance of flavors and textures from the coconut foam to the gentle heat from the fresno peppers. I could've eaten a bucket of that on my own! Third course of smoked beef tartare really brought the wow factor with presentation and was equally tasty. White asparagus was just a tad oversauced for me, but the miso marmite was so good I almost didn't mind, and it went so well with the crab. Seared grouper was cooked perfectly, so flaky with just the right amount of crisp crust from the sear, and went super well with the various sauces included & the brightness from the pickled scallion. The meat course was definitely the best lamb I've had in recent memory: it actually tasted like lamb without any lingering gaminess and was wonderfully tender, perfectly medium rare, with crispy skin and wonderfully rendered fat. I enjoyed the peas three ways but loved the chanterelle mushrooms even more. Dessert was a lovely light finish and I quite enjoyed that it was visually similar to course 2! Coconut panna cotta, meringue batons, tart sorbet & kaffir lime caviar, more foam -- such playful flavors and textures! And we were stuffed by then but still loved the anzac biscuits and cherry cola marshmallows. So impressed by the flavor of the marshmallows in particular, it really captured cherry cola perfectly. Pacing wasn't too fast or too slow; we never felt rushed at all but were in and out within 1:45 which felt unheard of for such a well developed tasting menu. There are truly no words for how unique and special this place is. The atmosphere is vibrant with beautiful New Zealand influences, and the food is unlike anything I've had before. We've ordered the chef's tasting for special occasions and I would highly recommend. It was an incredible experience. Every course felt intentional and thoughtfully prepared. If you're only ordering one thing, get the salmon. It's the most buttery, perfectly cooked salmon I've ever had. The only downside is that the portion sizes are on the smaller side. My advice? Walking in I had pretty high hopes and wasn't so familiar with New Zealand-inspired cuisine. Staff was pretty friendly and the space itself is really cool. I particularly like the layout of the tables. However, ultimately the food didn't really live up to my hopes. We opted not to do the tasting menu, but did end up spending a fair amount of money as most of the dishes are fairly pricey. Everyone around us was doing the tasting. Started with the fry bread, which was pretty underwhelming. I felt like it would be a bit cheesier but really just tasted like a hot pastry. The tartare was pretty salty, which I wouldn't have minded if we had been given crackers to eat it with but this only happens if you do the tasting menu (which I found very strange?). The mushroom dish was our favorite, as the egg soaked the mushrooms beneath really nicely without being overwhelming. The two mains we got were the sea bass, which I didn't really care for in terms of the flavoring (did enjoy the vegetable, though) and the grilled wagyu cheek. The latter came with ssamjang, which I thought was interesting. And the meat was fine, but wagyu will always be at least fine. We also got the Caesar salad which we really didn't need but was also weirdly difficult to eat physically. It's apparent that a lot of care and thought went into the menu and everything really was inspired, which we can certainly appreciate. read more

We did the tasting menu for a late birthday and it was excellent. Restaurant is cute, clean and modern. Staff were all very nice and work as a team. My favorite three dishes were a parmesan stuffed pasta, ceviche, and beef tartar. The other 4 dishes were also great but seemed to have a more complimentary function. The amount of food and pace of service was perfect for making it through the meal without getting full or feeling rushed. This was one of our favorite dinners in Dallas. Highly recommend. read more

I had the chef tasting menu at Quarter Acre. We started off with fresh sourdough bread and butter. The bread was a little burnt but it tasted delicious. Next, we had small bites which included sardines on skewers. We had a steak tartare with applewood smoke. It was smoky and flavorful. Next, we had the lobster, which was portioned quite small, but the accompanying sauces paired well with it. I wasn't a fan of the eggplant the dish fell flat. I didn't finish this course. The salmon was excellent. It was very tender. The lamb was cooked to perfection. I wish there was more! Finally, we substituted the pavlova for the cheesecake, which was the perfect combination of tart and sweet. I would return to this restaurant. The service was excellent. Quarter Acre - A Promising Concept Let Down by Service and Execution Rating: 2 out of 5 stars Quarter Acre in Dallas presents an intriguing concept: a Kiwi-inspired tasting menu rooted in the chef's New Zealand heritage and delivered with French culinary technique. Unfortunately, the execution--particularly in terms of service and pacing--left a lot to be desired. The evening began with a rushed introduction from our waiter, who repeated himself multiple times and asked twice if we'd been there before. While he introduced himself three times, his attention quickly shifted to a nearby table that was clearly the priority. That imbalance in service would continue throughout the night. We started with a slice of house-made sourdough, made from the chef's nine-year-old starter. Hearty and deeply toasted, it was a strong beginning. This was followed by bright, citrusy oysters and a well-fried arancini ball--both enjoyable. However, our wine pairing was forgotten. When I reminded the waiter, he responded with, "You do know it's $55 extra?" The tone suggested we might not be able to afford it, which felt presumptuous and inappropriate. He also stated that because we ordered cocktails he wouldn't think we would have ordered the wine pairing which was a poor excuse for his inattentive service. The cold green pea soup that followed was fresh but flat. The tomato tart, paired with red wine, had promise, but the ricotta overwhelmed the dish and it lacked salt and acidity. A persistent fly at our table made it difficult to focus on the meal, and staff made no attempt to address it. The pasta course, with asparagus, was a standout--perfectly cooked, well-balanced, and nicely paired with a white wine. The salmon, flown in from southern New Zealand, was high quality but uninspired, coated in a sweet glaze and served with a garnish of radish and greens that added little. The duck dish aimed for a deconstructed duck à l'orange, with sweet potato purée, crispy chips, and an orange salad. Interesting concept, but it didn't quite come together. Dessert was hit or miss. The strawberry mousse profiterole with chocolate sauce was tasty but unremarkable. The sticky date toffee with cardamom ice cream didn't work for me, though my dining companion enjoyed it. One bright spot was the sommelier--knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly a Lord of the Rings enthusiast. I didn't always agree with the pairings, but he brought genuine personality and warmth to the experience. The biggest issue was the service. Long gaps between courses, inattentiveness, and overt favoritism soured what should have been a premium evening. When I remarked to our waiter that it was obvious someone more important was receiving all the attention, he assured us he serves all the guests equally. This was clearly not the case. At $594 after tip, the experience fell well short of expectations. While there were moments of culinary merit, they were overshadowed by the uneven service and lack of attentiveness on behalf of our dedicated waiter. With that said, the rest of the staff did perform well. That said, I'm not completely closing the door. I believe Quarter Acre has potential--especially with a more engaged front-of-house and tighter pacing between courses. If those improvements are made, I'd be open to giving it another shot. We stopped in for Garden Hour last night due to the unseasonably good weather and had a lovely time. Their "Garden Hour" (aka Happy Hour) menu is amazing with $7 cocktails and an amazing array of appetizers. I highly recommend the Bee's Knees, a classic drink that they executed perfectly. The beef tartar, served smoked with umami sauces, was to die for and the snack board tasted as good as it looked. Our friends also ordered the mushroom appetizer and it was delicious. The service was outstanding, striking the difficult balance of fine dining (even for happy hour) and approachable. They were flexible as we walked in last minute and the meal was full of fun surprises like fresh bread and complimentary desserts. We look forward to returning for dinner. read more

If you don't want to read any further, just book now and go! Quarter Acre is a quaint little place that is super well done inside. They have a nice bar, cozy seating, and a few New Zealand inspired elements from the chef. The service is otherworldly! Literally the best service I've had since going to Joel Robuchon in Las Vegas which is a $600+ per person endeavor. The food follows suit. Fish on chip? Small but awesome. Sea Bass? Perfectly done. BBQ'd Cabbage? Get it! I wouldn't be someone who would ever order cabbage... the waiter said it was what I should get "if I ate here just once (since I'm from out of town)." And he wasn't wrong. It was unique but packed so many flavors into such a simple profile that I can't quite put into words what it effused. If I had any "meh" it was probably the crab eclair. I believe Quarter Acre is a pretty new restaurant. However, the staff and chef don't act like newbies and were on top of their game the whole night! We went on a Tuesday night and it was not crowded at all. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable and helped us pick out a wide variety of food. Our food was incredible. The pork belly was delicious. I ordered another after my entree because it was so good. The pasta was a little too smoky for me but tasted good nonetheless. The lamb was amazing and my friend said his steak was possibly the best he's had. I gave my girlfriend some of my pasta to try and she ate almost all of it! The dessert was good as well! Wanted to love it. Gorgeous features to the restaurant. But the food, which I know is award winning, just did not hit for us. We had a tomato app (fine) and octopus (literally 3 small bites-just not worth it). My friend liked the eggplant but it wasn't great. I got the gnocchi which I'd have to rate as one of the worst all time items I've ever eaten in a restaurant. I wish I could find the description now online because maybe I misunderstood what I ordered. It was not good. We sat at the bar and the bartender was talkative but refused to take a photo for us coming off pretentious. Yes you are busy. A photo takes less than a minute. I wish I could give this place 100 stars. Definitely exceed ALL of my expectations and more. The staff was the friendliest I've ever experienced and it was very clear they worked together as a team. The food was divine. The bread and homemade butter was a delightful start and then we got the fry bread bites which were a mix between fried goat cheese balls and a beignet.. AMAZING, we ordered more for dessert. We got the sea bass which was light and not too fishy, and it was cooked to perfection, flaky and flavorful. The truffle pasta special which was our favorite, not overpowered on truffle at all, crunchy, creamy and just perfect. It should definitely be a staple on their menu. At they end they have us these dessert treats which were out of this world. A mint marshmallow that melted in your mouth, and melted is an understatement! They also gave this crunchy gingerbread cracker/cookie that was so tasty. The interior is classy but doesn't feel like it's trying too hard and the restaurant isn't too loud at all. Would get all 3 again Appetizers - mushrooms were pretty solid but the crab eclair was a let down Entrees - got the truffle parmesan linguini which was the special of the night and decadent (but too small of a portion). The sea bass was flaky and tender and all the components of the dish were independently flavorful (especially loved the beans and mango pieces). Dessert - sticky date pudding was very rich and the sweetness was cut by the cardamom ice cream. Look, life has been busy. I haven't been writing as many Yelp reviews as I should be these days. But you know what? I'm carving out time IMMEDIATELY to tell you that this place, as popular as it is right now, deserves 10x the hype that it's currently getting. You will NOT be let down by ANYTHING on the menu. Cocktails: - The Vespyr is made with fat-washed gin. If you want to drink the world's smoothest martini, order this. Five stars. - The Garden Party is a lot more interesting than it sounds. Hint of mezcal smoke, hint of sweetness, everything lovely. Five stars. Snacks: - Mushroom croquette is the way to go here. Appetizers: - We split four appetizers among four people. It wasn't too much food; portion sizes here are pretty manageable. - They had a pulpo special (off-menu) that night, which was one of the favorite dishes of the night for several of us. - Smoked beef tartar is a must-order. My boyfriend is always ordering beef tartare, and it's always fine. This was WAY better than fine. Best I've had. Super inventive without being weird. - Duck pate was served with lots of interesting dollops of toppings; the cherries were particularly nice. Would have liked more ample toppings for the four of us to share, but that wouldn't be quite so artsy, I suppose. - Quail was surprisingly delicious. Super crispy, light skin. I thought the PB&J aspect was a bit weird, but others in our group loved it. Easy to eat the quail without the PB&J if that's not your thing (they're separated on the plate). Tasty AF. - Arugula and apple salad was very nice, but not really needed with the salmon setting. I'd be interested in the seasonal peas next time. Oh but wait, I think this whole menu changes seasonally...well, hopefully some of this is helpful to you anyway! Desserts: - This sounds so weird, but you MUST try the Jelly Tip Ice Pop. Like, you MUST. The waiter basically had to twist my arm to get us to order it, but I almost ordered another one immediately. It is the most interesting dessert!!! Corn ice cream with tajin and queso and blackberry jam...it sounds like a three-year-old's plate at the end of a meal, but it's PHENOMENAL. This might have been my favorite thing on the entire menu. BIG PICTURE: If you've been thinking about trying this place, stop thinking and book a reservation. It was NOT cheap (~$310) for the two of us, with two cocktails and two glasses of wine, but I would NOT hesitate to go back. Pro tip: go with a group of four so that you can take more bites of more dishes!! I think a group of six would be too big -- you wouldn't have enough bites per appetizer to go around. ONE OTHER TIP: Fellow diners' attire ranged from fairly casual to super dressy. The decor has a casual vibe, but the service and presentation is exceptionally classy and elegant (without being stuffy). Frankly, I think you can wear whatever you want and be just fine. That's the Kiwi way: come as you are...everyone is just happy to be here. And that goes for the staff, too! They all genuinely seem to love the chef and love the restaurant. Even the valet guy was raving about how nice the chef is, how he'll come out and chat with them sometimes. Tiny gripe? I wish there was more NZ wine by the glass on the menu. The vibe does feel like you're in another destination, not lower Greenville. For food I ordered the pork belly snack and ceviche. Both were amazing! So much so I ordered more pork belly almost immediately. The flavors of the ceviche mixed so well together. The coconut added just a hint of sweetness and was very well balanced (and I don't really like sweets). For the main I had the roasted chump and my friend had the short rib. The lamb was unique in texture and flavor. I'm really glad I tried it but admittedly i liked my friend's short rib more. For a side we got the crispy mashed potato. Interesting presentation with the peel on top. I'd also order it again but will definitely try the other sides too. For me the standouts were the ceviche, pork belly, and made to order espresso cocktail I had. I requested espresso, whisky, and nonsweet and the bartender delivered. My goal for the year is to eat at every restaurant that showed up on the Michelin list. I regularly eat at some of these, but I am on a mission to eat at all of them this year. Just as background, my son is a fine dining Chef and I am a foodie and have eaten at numerous high-end and Michelin restaurants in the US and Europe. Occasion: 60th birthday party for 5 people. Restaurant: We were pleasantly greeted as we entered and seated at the Chef's table with a view of the pass. The ambiance is extremely inviting and comfortable. One of the more welcoming restaurants I have been too. Drinks: All of our drinks were good and reasonably priced. Snacks: We ordered the Fry Bread and the Fish on Chip. Fry Bread was good, but everyone at the table really enjoyed the Fish on Chip. Appetizers: We had the Ceviche, Crab Eclair and Kindova Caesar. The Ceviche was of the highest quality and was good. We all really like the Crab Eclair and the Caesar was more memorable than most Caesar salads. Mains: We had the Seared Duck Breast, Sea Bass en Papillote and the Beef Striploin. All of the these were very good and would order any of them again. All of these were cooked perfectly, had great flavor and were extremely well presented. Service: This outstanding. Our server happened to be from our town and we struck up a conversation. While we were conversing the other staff helped our server. Service was prompt and attentive, but not stuffy. All entrees came to the table at the same and were placed in front of each of us at the same time. This is something you expect from this type of restaurant. Chef: Chef Toby came out to wish me a Happy Birthday and visited us which was a nice bonus. Overall: Our bill with tip was $500+ for the 5 of us. It wasn't until the New Year of 2023 that the restaurant opened its door. Did it meet or miss the expectation? I was lucky enough to dine in on a busy weekend night, just one week after its opening. "Chef Tony is from New Zealand. He used to work all around the world," says my waitress. It is a Kiwi Dream to buy a family house on a quarter-acre section. The restaurant's name - Quarter Acre - is meant to be a dream dwelling for the New Zealand chef. You can tell he's an ambitious fellow. He carefully crafted a career timeline on his website at ChefTobyArchibald.com, where the Michelin Star-trained background is mentioned many times. Several Dallas diners mistake Michelin for fine dining. I am happy to confirm that Quarter Acre is NOT a pompous fine-dining restaurant. The dining room feels intimate, relaxed, and fits right in one of Dallas' most popular bar and restaurant centers. I love how each dish comes out with an explanation of the Chef's inspiration instead of a boring list of seasonal ingredients. The staff makes sure you know that the Chef is from NEW ZEALAND. I am still dreaming about my meal at Quarter Acre. The food is incredibly delicious. Listed below are my recommendations. Service was remarkable as well -- attentive in the warmest and friendliest manner. Truly a wonderful restaurant. Snacks: My favorite are their oysters with kiwi bubbles and rosé mignonette. It was like taking a bite into spring, just absolutely tasty and refreshing. Oysters were enjoyed at the beginning and end of dinner because I couldn't get enough of them. Roasted squash aranchini was also fantastic. Appetizers: King ceviche, fried octopus and rabbit rillettes. In this order. The chicken fried quail is also pretty good, but the others are my top three. The service here was excellent. The food came out quickly, and everything was plated well. The portions are obviously very small since it is a more "upscale" restaurant, so I would probably eat a small snack before coming. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience here. read more

The food and the vibe of the restaurant is really cool. Fairly small menu but very creative. I had the venison and it was very tender and tasty. The side of carrots was also well done. The drinks were very delicious and fairly strong. The service was outstanding as well. I don't think the portions were worth the price but it was still a very delightful experience. I had been wanting to try Quarter Acre since it opened, and I finally got the chance over Thanksgiving weekend. The occasion was actually a birthday dinner for an old friend, and we had a lovely time. We began dinner with cocktails. I don't remember what my friend ordered, but I had the Cook Straight Sour, which consists of vodka, grapefruit, and peppercorn. Cocktails are tricky for me because I hate syrupy drinks, and most cocktails are too sweet. But this one was perfect. Our server brought us complimentary sourdough bread and New Zealand butter early on. It was tasty, but I think it would have been better if the butter were salted. For appetizers, we shared the fried squid, the Caesar salad, and the ceviche. Everything was good, but the standout was the ceviche--I've never seen or tasted ceviche like this. The outside was a coconut-lime "foam" (for lack of a better term), and the inside was where the fish was. I was impressed with the inventive presentation of a normally predictable dish, and the flavors were well balanced. For entrees, my friend had the Sunchoke tortellini, and I had the hot-smoked Glory Bay Salmon. My salmon was good, but I tasted my friend's tortellini, and I would totally recommend it to pasta lovers. The pasta tasted fresh and had a wonderful smoky flavor. The prosciutto was also a perfect addition to the dish. For dessert, we shared the matcha cheesecake with pear sorbet, which was perfect for someone like me, who doesn't like overly sweet desserts. It was delicious and the type of clean, refreshing dessert one might find at a fancy Asian-esque restaurant. Finally, our servers were friendly, attentive, and seemed very knowledgeable about the menu. One observation though--they checked on us repeatedly, and my friend commented that it felt like they were trying to get us out of there. It didn't bother me, so maybe it's a personal thing. All in all, I really enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service. I look forward to coming back. read more

We were enticed by the opportunity to try the chef's 7 course tasting menu. The opening bites were indeed just a bite or two, one of which was a cucumber bathed in a brine of what seemed to be liquid smoke and a bit of sourness from yuzu. My friend was overlooked five distinct times by the service staff while his drink lay stale. The eggplant dish was mushy and flavorless, and it had nastertium on it - since when is nastertium flavorless?! We tapped out on the scallops which were the fourth dish to feature smoke as a flavor, only to find that this fine dining $125 tasting restaurant adds a nearly $7 credit card processing fee like it's Denny's in the hood. Where do I begin? First of all, I had high expectations because a friend told me this was a great "farm to table" type of restaurant. First of all, it was not that. Food was incredibly underwhelming and we ordered almost half the menu for our group of 4. They also forgot to bring our peas, which we were charged for, and my husband now thinks is too late to contest. The initial presentation of the food was always more impressive than the food itself. Everything was either too salty or saucy. Nothing tasted "farm to table" like the way it's done in California. Drinks were decent and probably the only things worth getting. Also, for a restaurant that charges and acts like a wannabe Michelin star restaurant, they really need to have bag stands. My friend and I had very expensive bags and the waiter had no interest in helping us put it somewhere, stating there was a reservation next to us. The reservation did not show up until 1.5 hours later, I checked. Ridiculous. Won't come back. Also the location in lower Greenville for a restaurant of this price point isn't ideal. read more

Fantastic cocktails. I had the cote de fraises which is really unique and perfect for those who don't love sweet cocktails. Definitely try the ceviche! Special place and incredible ambiance. We called ahead to schedule a birthday dinner and we're seated on the patio which turned out well. We were told there wasn't room inside but we noticed there were tables that would've suited us that sat empty the entire time we were there. The beef short rib, charred carrots, and half shell oyster were crowd favorites. Didn't get a 5-star due to disparity of price vs value and a slight let down on service. We brought balloons and even brought a cake with our paper plates to share at the end of our $660 meal. We asked the server for a knife for us to cut up the cake, enjoyed the desert and cleaned up our mess. There was a service charge of $35 for the use of the knife. A small amount compared to the bill but it was the dagger to a rather nice evening and was enough to give second thoughts about coming back. read more
