Went here to celebrate a couple birthdays in our ladies group. I had never been here before and the menu had selections from appetizers to salads to sandwiches/soups to entrées. Everything on the menu looked mouthwatering and wonderful. Three of us settled on the blackened chicken sandwich with their tomato bisque soup with brie or fries. Sandwich was served on a large hoagie type bun with ample chicken and avocado, and a little bit of kick to the chicken. The tomato bisque soup was one of the best tomato soups I've had in the Reno area. The pat of Bree on the top only added to its excellence. Fabulous was the description for all our the meals and included the three blackened chicken sandwiches, a Cobb salad, and a grilled cheese with the tomato soup. The birthday girls were presented with chocolate, brownie n a scoop of ice cream and a candle on top. And it was delicious as well. My only complaint would be when we arrived. Our table of five was sat right next to another table of five and the place was pretty empty at the time, so having a conversation was like we were a group of 10 instead of just a party of five. Everything else was A+ and then some! Our server was fabulous. She was very attentive and prompt whether it was taking our bar n lunch orders, delivering our lunch orders, or keeping our water glasses full. It was our first time here. We stopped by on a Tuesday for lunch. Upon entering, you can smell the wood fire. It was not that crowded and we were seated right away. Our server took both our drink and food orders. We waited maybe 15 minutes for our drinks, one beer and another a cocktail. It seemed that one of the waitresses was also the bartender. I observed a nearby customer get his drink from the bar after he asked about it. The food was also late in arriving. My husband enjoyed his chicken sandwich but said it was very salty. My chicken cobb salad was good, basic. The chicken was a little dry. We probably won't be back since there are a lot of other good restaurants to choose from. But if you're in a hurry, I definitely would not recommend this place. read more

This was our second meal here and this time it was great! We started with the surf and turf sushi and lamp lollipops and a cup of shrimp gumbo. Allwere excellent. The marinade used on the lamb was wonderful herby which gave the lamb a savory flavor. Our entrees were salmon and fish tacos. Again the salmon had a nice pesto like sauce and was cooked medium rare as requested. The fish tacos were moist with all the goodies on top. First time at this restaurant. Interior looked modern with fancy light bulbs hanging down. I was looking forward to it. But, it took a very LONG time for service after being seated. We ordered drinks, which were well prepared. Then they took FOREVER to take our dinner order. The food was decent, but nothing that special. Then, eventually, they provided desert menus. The second time I got it to go and the dressing was a little light and so was the blue cheese. It's definitely a restaurant that is too nice for to go items so it's my fault. We received very little attention during our meal and prior. THEN a 20% gratuity added to bill on a party of five. My tip would have been much smaller, but it was forced on me. No bueno. Good food. Good wine. Good space. They have a good happy hour for food, cocktails, and wine. The items alternate on different days, but any day is a good time. I really appreciated the size of their wine list. There were a lot of options and a few of my favorites. I came to Bistro 7 with my mom on Mother's Day and we were big fans of everything we ordered! I got the chicken Caesar salad, she got the salmon, and we shared truffle fries. The chicken on my salad was seasoned and cooked perfectly, not your average Caesar salad! My mom loved her salmon as well and said it was packed with flavor and the salmon was super fresh. We both enjoyed the truffle fries that rounded out the meal. The service was great and all of the staff was so nice. We will definitely be coming back again! read more

Came here for happy hour before meeting friends for dinner. They had an extensive selection of wines by the glass and cocktails, and a decent list of drafts (many of which are local). Happy hour runs daily, which I always appreciate. The space is fairly large with an upscale design. It was somewhat dark inside the bar area, but felt appropriate (intimate, comfortable). Our bartender wasn't the most attentive, but she did welcome us not too long after we sat and was friendly. I believe she was new, possibly her first day or week so I'm not really judging service this round. I'd like to come back for food, it's been recommended by friends and there appear to be a lot of seafood options (for a pescatarian) as well as gluten-free options! read more

I was having drinks with some friends when one suggested that we go for dinner at Bistro 7. They said that it had new owners and that they recommended it. I went and met them there. It was disappointing. We had made a reservation for 6 and the table was ready. That was a good start. Our server came by and asked if we were ready, but we were not so they went away. There was a cold draft and we found that a patio door was left open. It felt like forever before the server came back. We asked them to get the door closed. Then we ordered. Again it felt like forever before the food came. We water and nothing else. The owner came by and said hello. That was nice of him. I had ordered the prime rib. It was difficult to chew. I regretted eating it. I got what looked like some left over breakfast homefries instead of the garlic mashed potatos that were on the menu. The brocolli looked like it was from a bag of frozen food, so I didn't eat it. I looked at the wine menu and they had some popular choiced but nothing that I wanted, and at the usual high restaurant prices. One of our party got clams. She said that they were gritty and sent them back. She had a glass of bubbly water that they charged her for. Overall if was an underwhelming experience. I don't plan to go back. Unfortunately this restaurant seems to have gone downhill from the last time we ate here, which was about 2 1/2-3 years ago. Though I did not have one of the appetizers (calamari and green beans) they did look delicious. I had the zucchini pasta with artichokes in a tomato sauce. I added beef to it which was fine, but there were chunks of fat mingled in with it. The dish was mediocre. Unfortunately, one of our guests was forgotten and didn't get her mail until everyone else at our table was mostly finished.. We were not sure what happened but perhaps they gave her mail to someone else accidentally. The explanation was insufficient. We will most likely not be back. Management did comp her meal however. read more

What a wonderful experience!! We went to Bistro 7 for the first time on Friday evening and it was amazing! The staff were excellent and quickly felt like family! We tried several appetizers, the surf n turf roll, lollipops and calamari- all were delicious. My husband had the special Fillet Oscar and I had the rib eye- both were superb and cooked to perfection!! Oh, and the dessert!! Peach upside down cake!!! Who knew that existed!!! Yum!!! A few weeks late - went for Happy Hour - food was well done. Only 3 stars because - Service was good although a little erratic. I was trying to get the bill, the server (who had been quite pleasant) looked right at me and then ignored me. Seemed odd. Also just check the bill - 20% off is what's posted but it's a little confusing. The drink prices "are already discounted" so they don't show up with the 20%. That's fine, but they should tell you to avoid confusion. Also, our bill was actually wrong - one item didn't get discounted but the manager was disbelieving when I brought it to her attention. She did grudgingly correct it after I told her I would just pay the (incorrect) bill. So go for the food - just check the bill. read more

Brought my family into dinner before we went had to be at a show. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks. And then we waited 45-50 minutes to get our dinner. I had to ask our server where our food was because we had a show to get to. No one updated us, checked on us, or even apologized. Great happy hour at the bar but because there were 6 of us we found out that they added a mandatory 20% gratuity. We all calculated our individual amounts and put it out. Apparently the total was $174.10 and we left $174. The server actually came back and asked for ten more cents. Wow. We paid it but none of us want to return because they were so petty. Plus for a party of six most places add 18% not 20%. We would have given the 20% on our own. read more

So many great things to say here about Bistro 7. Decided to go here after a friend flew into town. Made a reservation for 6:30 and was seated without any issues. We were sitting at a table but saw the bar area also looked like a great place to sit. The service was on point, with a great waitress. The signature basil drink was great! Definitely try it. You won't be disappointed. Appetizers were fried green beans, pot stickers, and truffle fries. The truffle fries barely had a truffle taste; the pot stickers were tinny; I wasn't a fan. I would order the fried green beans again. The dipping sauce was delicious. I ordered truffle Mac and cheese with bacon, jalapeño, and chicken. It was epic! A lot of food, so the next day's lunch was fantastic. The rest of the table had pizzas. All was GONE. I'll be back here again for a nice relaxing dinner. read more

As I was escorted into the restaurant to meet some folks for dinner, I noticed the wood fired oven blazing away. The warmth and aroma were welcoming. The atmosphere was upscale, classy, spacious and romantic. The menu was varied with vegetarian and vegan options. Local growers and vendors are supported. The house salad was plentiful with a variety of green and purple leaves, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and more with the house vinaigrette. I had the Filet Mignon, a large portion, very tender and tasty on top of a roasted shallot Demi glacé. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were seasoned deliciously. Others in the party had chicken piccata and Miso Crusted Chilean Sea Bass. All were presented beautifully with ample portions. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse, light and flavorful. The service was professional, proficient and personable. On the way out, I saw the board stating there is a daily happy hour available. I don't know what happened, but Bistro 7 fell off my radar. It has been years since my last visit (a pre-COVID number of years!). I recently met a friend for lunch here and really enjoyed it. The service was pretty quick and friendly, and it seems that this is a happening lunch spot for South Reno folks. I enjoyed a beet salad for my meal, but if I'm being honest, my heart really wanted the brie apple grilled cheese. I will have to try that next time! read more

A month after my review, the owner responded and said she remembered myself and my company. I highly doubt that. She said we left happy, and yes, we had some wine and hadn't seen each other for a long time. The restaurant is beautiful, the service is great. The price for a plate of weird pasta that had no meat or even garlic bread was $24. The fact that it was vegetarian was why I ordered it, but for $24 dollars, I was not impressed at all. We decided to try out Bistro 7 again with some friends for their special NYE menu because the first time we ate here it was descent and the NYE menu sounded good. However, the second time around was not as good. While some of the NYE food tasted better than others, overall the quality and freshness wasn't there, and some items like the chocolate cake and clams were not even edible. Definitely didn't feel like for the cost of the special menu was worth the $100 per person. The portion sizes are pretty descent but again the flavor, quality and freshness of the foods needs improvement. The service was also mixed. Bus boys and waitress were really nice although the bus boys kept refilling our water too much to where it was distracting and a little annoying. The waitress was a little off at first as she brought out the first plate without even taking our drink orders or introducing herself. She just dropped off the plate and walked away which was odd and didn't come back until almost 10-15 mins later. So the first plate sat there because we didn't have any drinks or small plates to eat it with! The young brunette hostess on the other hand, was not so great. Instead of greeting us with a smile and saying something like hi, welcome in, she looked pissed off and said "what can I do for you?" It was an odd way to greet people. That immediately set the tone for not a great evening. Overall I wouldn't recommend this restaurant or go back as there are other restaurants in Reno that are better for the price, quality of food and atmosphere. Another great local find, Bistro 7! Established in Reno in 2008, this has always been a great place for good, modern Americana eats. I've been to many happy hours with co-workers here, and sampled many of their appetizers and drinks, all of which have been delectable! My husband and I came in on a Friday evening, and we were quickly seated - amazing for a popular place! We didn't have reservations, and opted to eat in their main dining area (you can also choose the casual lounge just to the right with a bar). The vibe is elevated casual, and definitely a great place to bring a group for some good conversation. We opted for the blackened chicken sandwich and the grilled fish tacos, BOTH of which were amazing! The chicken sandwich was juicy and tender, and the chipotle mayo was delicious! The fact that truffle fries are the standard is an added bonus! The fish tacos? They live up to their expectation of being a popular dish. Amazing. Absolutely will get again next time around! I also opted for one of their featured cocktails, a hibiscus infused vodka with simple syrup and cucumber. It was refreshing and great for the summer - I hope to have it again. It was Christmas Eve, and the place was packed, so my expectations weren't high. On top of that, we were about 45 minutes early due to an unexpectedly brief church service. Teresa, the manager, went out of her way to seat us despite our designated table being occupied. Service got off to a slow start due to the rush, but Sarah picked up the ball and service was great. Food, as always was outstanding - steak frites was a preparation I'd not had before, and my wife's salmon and my daughter's ono were both excellent. Overall, a great experience. Gayle and I enjoyed a nice lunch the other day with our friends, Jim and Marti. Based on the number of reviews here, I guess we've missed one of Reno's culinary hot spots. CONS - Their South Virginia Street location was hard to find, even with navigation. +/- - Uneven food choices. My grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque was excellent, while Jim and Gayle thought that their fish tacos were a bit dry and a little too "fishy". As Marti was talking a lot of the time, we're not sure how she felt about her slowly consumed Lamb Lollypops. - Some items seemed a bit pricey for a lunch menu. Dinner prices appeared to be more in line. PROS - Excellent, efficient, and helpful service. - Well appointed and attractive interior, conducive to conversation. - Attractive separate bar area. TL DR: This may be my new favorite place in Reno. Must try items include the beet salad and the miso crusted Chilean sea bass. Elite tip: You can split a salad with another party member and have the perfect size serving for 2! Exceptional service. Accommodating and forthcoming with allergens. When you walk in, you're greeted by a friendly hostess. In addition to the traditional dining area, there's a bar and an amazing semi-private room that would be great for private events. The restaurant is clean and the lighting provides for a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Food: Our party decided not to try any appetizers and started with salads. We had someone with severe food allergies and when talking to the wait staff they were very understanding and worked with our party member on possible options. They were patient, cooperative, and understanding. You're not going to find that service with other restaurants. Beet salad: What's pictured is just a half serving so you can absolutely split/share a salad and both be full. The salad was fresh and well balanced. You can taste the fennel, with notes of sweetness from the citrus, and that crunch from the pistachios. The vinaigrette is amazing. The goat cheese also brings everything together. The miso crusted Chilean sea bass: if you are a fan of fish and crunchy rice this is absolutely the entree for you. The sweet soy glaze was the star of this dish for me! The fish was cooked to perfection. The crust on the outside was crisp/golden brown, the inside was flaky but not overly cooked, and the forbidden rice was the perfect medium to absorb the glaze. The asparagus was tender and well cooked. The only constructive thought would be to provide more vegetables or a variety of vegetables with the entree. But without question, I will be back to order this! Drinks: I didn't get anything to drink, but they had a great selections of wines and cocktails. The others in my party really enjoyed their drinks! Desserts: We passed on desserts this time but looking at some of the tables around us, the crème brûlée looked fantastic! Another hidden gem in Reno. You wouldn't know it was a restaurant from the outside bc it's tucked into a corner at a small shopping center. However, we were pleasantly surprised and so glad we gave it a try. The place was hopping with happy customers and wonderful staff. They created a great ambiance with creative metal bead dividers, separating the bar from the restaurant. The food was fantastic. We enjoyed the lamb lollipops, surf n turf deep fried rolls, Cesar salad, and the cheesecake desert special. We also sampled many creative cocktails, and chose our favorites but they were all great. The staff helped each other by serving appetizers and the main dishes. Our main server checked in with us consistently throughout the entire visit with enthusiasm and helpful suggestions, as we kept adding drinks and food to our meal. Overall, fantastic! read more
