I made reservations for a party of 3 on a Friday night. Within the reservation I noted that the dinner was to celebrate a birthday and the restaurant was kind enough to acknowledge this by coming out with a slice of cheesecake topped with a lit candle at the end of our dinner and the staff sang Happy Birthday to the guest of honor. From beginning to end, it was an enjoyable experience at this restaurant. The friendly host greeted us immediately and seated us promptly by the window. From there, the staff was consistently attentive: refilling waters, checking in with us for any more food or drink requests and just making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our dinner. I believe the pricing to be fair for the dishes we ordered and they all came out in a timely manner. Although we weren't big fans of the arancini starters (2 rice balls cut into halves and topped with potato chips) we did enjoy the risotto, butternut squash ravioli and the Alfredo pasta. Dessert was also delicious. It was an enjoyable celebration as we never felt rushed or ignored. The restaurant was lively with other patrons but it did not feel crowded and we were able to sit comfortably in our corner table in a very relaxed setting. We had a very nice dinner here the other night. My chicken Parmesan was delicious. I had to stop eating it so I could take a little home and not be uncomfortably full for the rest of the night. My wife's Tuscan chicken was very much to her liking though the mashed potatoes were less than lukewarm. Fortunately that didn't matter to her very much since she wasn't planning on eating them anyway. We split a pleasant, lightly dressed Caesar salad first served with tasty warm bread. I wasn't drinking and my wife just had one glass of wine so the bill was a very welcome and reasonable amount. Plan to return again to try some other entrees. read more

Cons: * My lobster was mostly mushy, which pretty much ruined the dish for me as the texture of lobster is a big component. * Flavor of the lobster seemed to be off too, but could have been a psychological result of the texture. * No A/C on a hot day made for a somewhat unpleasant dining experience. Bistro Arancini is a recently opened Italian restaurant in Broadway, Burlingame that really impressed me in my most recent visit. Prices during lunch time were reasonable and the service was spectacular too. The ambiance and decor is also top notch. Parking isn't too difficult since there are paid parking lots nearby. Their menu is not overly complex which I like and they offer Complimentary Bread which was honestly pretty good too. What my table ordered: - Margarita Pizza ($16.95) - Capellini Pomodoro ($18.95) The Capellini sprinkled with cheese on top is really good with the combination of fresh roasted garlic, tomatoes, and white wine marinara sauce. The angel hair was a perfect al dente consistency. The Margarita Pizza had a nice thin crust that had a crispy which each bite. The sauce to cheese ratio was also what I'm looking for in a good Margarita Pizza. I would definitely recommend both of these dishes. This part of Burlingame has some good Italian restaurant options now and Bistro Arancini is certainly worth returning to. read more

The ambiance was nice, and the waiters were very attentive. My fiance had a beer and I had a Diet Coke. To start , We ended up having the Arancini. I thought it tasted bland and it had a thick fried crust...which made it kind of dry. Even with the sauce, it was not very good. My fiance had the Beet salad. He said it was delicious, but there was way too much goat cheese in between the beets. (Which is not a bad thing to have more than not enough). But, I kept watching him scrape the goat cheese off of the beets. He said it was good, it just needed to be a little distributed better. Next, I had the minestrone soup. That was absolutely delicious. Hot, and hearty. Lots of flavor. I would get this for take out weekly! Very good. We then had the ravioli carbonara. I thought is was just ok. Not bad, but not delicious. We ended up ordering the brussel sprouts with dinner. I expected something totally different. I expected them to be charred, pan fried or roasted with garlic. The brussel sprouts came out "steamed " or boiled. It made me dislike brussel sprouts . Not very good. All in all, the staff was nice and the restaurant was nice. I would not come back. I would NOT recommend coming to Bistro Arancini for dinner. I have no idea why this restaurant is rated so high. Both the service and food did NOT meet my expectations. As background, my party consisted of 3 people. I had a reservation for 6:30pm and was NOT seated until 7pm. Besides seating us late, the inexperienced hostess made me repeat myself multiple times. She couldn't remember what time my reservations were, my party size or my name, despite my party standing in front of her for 30 min waiting for a table. Oh if I tell you, my reservation is 6:30pm and another party tells you, their reservation is 6:45pm, you should automatically seat my party first. It's not first come, first serve. It's ridiculous that the waiter had to tell you to seat my party first. Waiter service The service quality wasn't the greatest. There were 4 waiters and everyone of them were overwhelmed. They didn't have dedicated tables, which made the service worse. For example, a table that was seated AFTER us, received a basket of bread before we did. The waiters didn't notice that we didn't have bread. We had to ask for bread twice before we actually received a basket of bread. Regarding food, my party ordered: - Crab cakes - Calamari - King Salmon with veggies - Braised short ribs - Linguini con vongole - Tiramisu - Lava cake with vanilla gelato - Bread pudding with vanilla gelato Appetizer review - Portions were small and over-priced. - Calamari were over-breaded. I estimate the portion to be 4 ounces for $17. - There were 2 thin crab cakes and they were small in size. Entree review - I ordered the King Salmon medium, but it was essentially well-done. The veggies that came with the salmon were overcooked and therefore mushy. - The braised short ribs were not tender. They didn't fall off the bone and required a knife to cut. Short ribs came with polenta, which wasn't cooked. - The linguini was not al dente, which you would expect it to be at an Italian restaurant. Dessert review - You couldn't taste the amaretto and espresso in the Tiramisu. There was lots of mascarpone cream - The vanilla gelato for both the lava cake and bread pudding was sorbet/icy-like. It didn't seem like gelato. - The lava cake was small. Someone in my party made a comment that is pretty telling on the portion size. She was still hungry after eating dessert. I will say that the bread was warm, which is enjoyable, but would you come here for warm bread?1?! read more

I stopped by for a light meal earlier this week. The refurbished Il Piccolo on Broadway in Burlingame is now Bistro Arancini. The ambience is reminiscent of old world Italy with high ceilings and lots of old world decorative touches. I was warmly greeted by professional waitstaff! Offered plenty of opportunities to partake in their menu options and plenty of time to decide on my choices. I did not feel in any way rushed or pressured to make hasty decisions. We picked up a friend at SFO from the East Coast who needed vegetarian options and the menu here looked promising. We were provided a warm bread with a tasty olive oil tapenade dipping sauce before our orders were taken which I loved. We had the bruschetta and burrata to start, and particularly loved the crisp on the toast. Mains included a margherita pizza, bolognese and Alfredo. Prior reviewers complained about the cost compared to portion size but I personally do not think that to be the case especially for Burlingame- I have paid $7/per plate more in Hayward and Fremont for similar and less tasty portions. Service was great and the noise level was low enough for us to catch up. Oh and excellent wine list! We definitely plan on coming back. Highly recommend. read more

My elderly mother and I arrived a little before six on a Sunday night. It was almost empty when we arrived, but we noticed it fill up by the time we had left . We were greeted warmly and given our choice of tables. We opted for a nice comfortable spot next to a large window. The breeze was very pleasant. The staff was friendly and attentive to my mother. Everything we ordered was delicious and came out promptly. I had the Tuscan chicken, which I pictured and my mother had the pesto ravioli. She finished the whole dish, which is pretty unusual for her! The restaurant is spacious, unlike some of the other restaurants in the area, which are cramped and narrow. This place is cute and centrally located on Broadway. We had a large party of 10 and the meal started off really well before it got busy. The waiters kept refilling the water and took our orders quickly. The bread and oil it comes with was yummy. The calamari was crispy and we tried two pizzas. The margherita and the diavolo were both delicious. The hostess was super friendly as well as were the staff. I had the seafood paella and also tried the paperdelle which both had great flavor. This place could have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the dessert. We all ordered a dessert and was told it's a 12 min wait for the lava cake. However we waited at least 25 minutes before 3 desserts came out- the bread pudding, tiramisu and lava cake. Then the waiter came saying they do not have the spumoni ice cream after all. Then another 15 minutes before another 3 desserts came out- peach sorbet, and affogatos. Then another 15 minutes before the last desserts came out- another bread pudding and chocolate gelato. After all of the wait we were tired and it ended up being a 3 hour meal. I will probably not be back for a sit down. read more

They were good but the bread were super hard for the appetizers. My mussels for my seafood entree kinda smells a little. They were definitely not fresh. And no, I didn't complain just because. After we ate, the waiter bought out the cake(which we bought in)and we sang to my wife. The waiter bought the cake back to cut them into slices. Btw., they do charged a $10 fee for cutting the cake and serving it. I didn't know or wasn't told but whatever.
