From my previous experience, the flavors of the food at the steak room changed little. Everything was delicious - salad, bread, steak, and fries. Even the butter wasn't refrigerater cold this time. Offering was $37, only up $2 from my previous visit. However, everything around it proved disappointing. Only the fries were now bottomless; the salad and bread were not. What really killed this dinner was the service. I went at 10pm with the mutual understanding discussed with the server that the kitchen would close before 11 (their official closing hours). No problem, I could front load some fries. The service for most of the meal was acceptable. However, almost at the dot on 11, I could not find any wait staff to pay the bill. I saw BOH staff leave for 20 minutes without seeing a single server. I had to barge into the kitchen. Does this place not have protocol to check for diners finishing their meals during closing? The food flavors themselves warrant 4*. -1* for eliminating bottomless salad and bread. I stopped at Rochambeau on a trip to Boston after seeing multiple recommendations to eat there, and I completely understand why now. I do have to take off a star because of a scheduling issue, but rest assured, it has nothing to do with the food. All sites (including their own) stated dinner started at 4, but when I arrived at 4:20, I was told I needed to wait until 5 because they only had enough staff to handle a private event. I had a flight to catch and was on a schedule, so this was quite frustrating. I had a great experience once I was seated. I started with the baguette, and it was fantastic. It was crunchy and buttery, and the salted butter served with it was creamy and delightful. The dining area is beautifully decorated and contributed to the overall ambiance of the meal. The stars of the show were the wood-fired sirloin and frites. Many people had commented on the fries at Rochambeau, and they were right to do so. They were perfectly cooked, and the bernaise served with the steak was excellent for dipping. The steak was incredibly tender, and the herbed butter on top was delicious. Something to note that I found odd: fountain drinks do not come with free refills, and they are $4 each. Be mindful of this if you are thirsty! Came here for Sunday brunch a few weeks ago after seeing it on TikTok, and it was just as good as everyone said! The weather was perfect, so my husband and I sat outside before heading to the baseball game. We started with mimosas (they have an awesome bottle deal, but we just stuck to one this time). Some friends and I came in for brunch at 10am on a Sunday and were able to grab a table right away upstairs. The space is beautiful with an art deco vibe and great ambiance. Shortly after we arrived a jazz singer came in which added even more to the experience. We had cappuccinos and Bloody Marys which were excellent and perfectly balanced. Another friend ordered sparkling wine which was just ok so she added a side of orange juice which surprisingly came with ice. I can't say I've seen ice in a juice that wasn't a cocktail. We split the lemon ricotta pancakes that were fluffy served with whipped cream and berries. They were fantastic and a perfect pop of sweetness. I ordered the mussels and frites which were great and served with a tomato based broth. They had great flavor and I used a spoon to eat as much as possible. The omelette was good but weren't expecting the bacon to be inside of it. The shrimp was fresh but the crab cake was very different and tasted like it had curry inside. It was just ok. We decided to stop by based on a recommendation from a friend who said their Brioche French Toast is really good. Well they weren't wrong! I didn't order it but I had the pleasure of cleaning up a plate! The slices of toast are really thick but light and airy. I'm not a big fan of banana in my food unless it's banana bread but it was definitely good. It served as a really good dessert for me! I ordered the Duck Hash because I like duck and hash and to have them together seemed too good to be true! So the duck wasn't really all that tasty. It could have used a little more seasoning but it really lacked that duck flavor. The duck itself sat on top of the potato hash which itself was nice and light. The poached eggs were done perfectly and again the bread, was nice. I didn't taste the Salmon Avocado Toast but it was all gobbled up with nothing but crumbs left on the plate so I assume it was good! I also had a Bloody Mary and it was nice and spicy. I saw the octopus on the menu and I couldn't wait for some fresh octopus so close to the water. Well.. when I ordered the octopus the server informed me that they were out.. Instead, we ordered a dozen oysters, the Tuna Crudo, the Steak Tartare, Shrimp Cocktail and Salmon with Ceasars Salad. The oysters were delicious and fresh, very enjoyable. The Tuna Crudo was also fresh and it had really good flavor and the sour dough pn the side was a nice touch. The Shrimp Cocktail was simple but so so fresh that it was so delicious! Some of the best shrimp I've had yet. The Samon was seared perfectly that it was crispy without making the Salmon dry! And the Ceasar Salad was so fresh and dressed perfectly as well. After our meal, they brought out a swan ice cream dessert because we were celebrating and the server poured a chocolate sauce on it. It was okay but the bread was not good quality sometimes kind of got stale while eating it. And the Moltent Lava cake was pretty good, perfectly gooey in the center and very enjoyable. Went to try brunch with my friend! I got there before her and our waiter quickly got us water while I waited for her to arrive. We got the ricotta pancakes and eggs Benedict to split. The lemon ricotta pancakes were topped with fresh berries and definitely was our favorite of the two dishes. My friend doesn't really liked eggs but she said she enjoyed the eggs Benedict! I got the French toast with caramelized bananas and it was so good and moist. It was a pretty large portion so I took some to go. The side of bacon is also enough to share. My friend got the eggs Benedict crabcake and he loved it. Would definitely recommend on end over the crabcake appetizer as it's the same price. The crab cake had lots of crab meat too. just now New Went to rochambeau yesterday for the jazz Valentine's Day dinner. When we first walked in, pure chaos. Crowds of people, no sense of any organization. I did not think much of it because it was Valentine's Day. We went upstairs for the event and were seated. The restaurant had a live band for the event. It was going well until it wasn't. The event had two options: 1) order from the prefix menu or 2) just their regular menu. We clarified with our server--he had let us know if we choose the prefix then we would have to stay with the prefix, we choose to order of the regular menu. The reservation was at 5, we were seated exactly around the time.We placed an order of drinks and an appetizer, which we received. We promptly placed our entrees right after. This is when it started to go downhill. It has been 45 mins at this point and still no food. Our server was avoiding us, acting very strange. Finally, food was being brought to us, however, it was not what we ordered. The staff realized it was for the table next to us, our server came to us, apologized, and said he would check on our food. We understood and said no worries. An additional 30 mins goes by. Our sever is no where to be found, no update on our entrees. The tables around us are being served left and right, new faces at tables getting served, eating and leaving. All in the meanwhile, it is now 7 pm--2 hours, no entrees, no updates We then has to flag one of the servers down who reluctantly wanted to come by us. When we finally got one he said he had no clue what was happening. At this point, I had asked if we could please get the check and pay for what we did drink /eat and leave. They weren't even doing that for us Additional 15 mins later, the manager comes. States that he wouldn't like for us to leave hungry and he will go down to the kitchen to tell them to make our food and we can stay as long as we'd like. So my questions for rochambeau: 1.Where was our food? Did our server never put our order in? If he forgot there was more than enough time to correct it? A friend and I stopped in for brunch and had a great time. We each ordered an entree and got some pancakes to share. Also had some coffee. The food came out super fast, but sadly I think our waiter forgot to put in the pancake order because we waited over 30 min for them and when we asked about it, they came out within 5 min. I can't say enough about how fantastic the food was. The steak was cooked to perfection and the salad was incredible--truly a culinary highlight. But unfortunately, the service was such a disappointment that it overshadowed the entire experience. Once seated, we ordered steak, but were not given any silverware. I had to flag down our server to ask for utensils--twice, once for me and once for my fiancée's salad. Still, nothing. I ended up grabbing silverware and napkins from a nearby table myself. To make things worse, no one checked in to refill our water or see if we needed anything else. After being completely ignored, I finally confronted the server. He was apologetic and comped our $2 water--appreciated, but far from enough to make up for the experience. For a restaurant that claims to be the best French establishment in Boston, the lack of care was shocking. The French are known for excellence in food and hospitality--demanding excellence, actually. Great touch for complimentary champagne and chocolate cookie vanilla ice cream dessert for anniversary celebration dinner. Main entrees are excellent. Crispy duck breast $44 is fatty, amazingly tender, and nicely balanced with spring barley, plum sauce and honey. Steak frites $37 are very good. NY strip steak comes in the most tender lean strip steak, with super crispy salted fries. Endless fries give options for free second serving of delicious crispy string fries, albeit busting the daily sodium intake several times over. French onion soup $17 is very good, with generous amount of Gruyère, but small bowl could do better with more generous serving of delicious oxtail soup. Desserts are not typical French delight to expect in France. Hot plate chocolate cookie with vanilla bean ice cream was yummy, but several tads too sweet. The Swan $12 comes as a vanilla ice cream (ok, could have stronger vanilla taste) wrapped with cream puff (no fresh bake taste) glazed in chocolate sauce.
