This little BEAUTY is one of the best restaurants in Seattle! We arrived with no reservation, no problem, we were seated right away. Having never been there before we had no idea what to order. Deanna was our server and with a great smile, attitude and fine knowledge of Turkish food, she helped us put together one of the finest meals I've ever had. Everything was PERFECT! We started with a nice Turkish red wine, the Roasted Eggplant topped with a wonderful yogurt sauce and the Baked Feta, the flavors were amazing, I highly recommend both. Then came the entrees, Lamb chops with tabouli and the Spinach Borak, they were OUTSTANDING! We were so full, but she talked us into sharing a piece of Baklava and coffee. Both of them a perfect ending to a perfect meal. As the place filled up she greeted everyone with a smile and a very warm welcome. The owner came down from the kitchen and asked us about our dinner. She was so nice and we couldn't tell her enough how wonderful it was. we will be back again and again! Neither my wife or I had ever eaten Turkish food that we can recall so this was a first and boy were we impressed! The cozy atmosphere and overall setup of the place reminded us of the restaurants we used to frequent in Brooklyn so some nostalgia is being blended in with this review. That said, the food was amazing - we started with Acuka, which, if you've never tried it - blew our minds. The blend of walnuts, olive oil and the red pepper puree was outstanding! From there we shared the beef kebab and the Turkuaz Special (Chopped pita with patlican sote, sliced char grilled lamb dressed with tomato sauce) - from people that don't dig on lamb, this combo was perfect in that the meat pieces were fairly small but the combo of eggplant and tomatoes with the meat was delicious. Finish with a traditional Turkish coffee and rice pudding and you have very, very happy customers. We'll be visiting this place again for sure, so happy that it's walking distance! read more

with so many restaurants in seattle its easy to spend your life trying new places (and subsequently yelping on them natch). on a rare occasion you try a place that makes you instantly want to be hungry again so you sit back down and say "again" or order other dishes that intrigue you. bistro turkuaz is one of those places. 3 things determine if i'm to 'Be Well Fed': the food; the service and the ambiance. food sampled: mucver-zucchini pancakes with yogurt garlic sauce; baba ghanoush (like hummus but with eggplant instead of garbanzo beans); kofte kebab-meat patties; tas kebab-slow roasted beef over rice; turkuaz special-chopped pita with eggplant and tomato and grilled lamb; turkish coffee. -delicious. flavors were clean; bright and beautifully flavorful. everything tasted delightfully homemade-as to say the owner/chef cooked from the heart and delivered her tasty instincts to our plates. the tas kebab is not to be missed - delicious beef over rice accompanied by 2 salads-a spiced shredded carrot and a fattoush like salad next to it. the lamb on the turkuaz special was perfection though i didn't like how mushy the pita got under all that tomato. the yogurt garlic sauce there is dangerously addictive. you want to slather it on everything. seriously. service: the owner's daughter served as the restaurant's only waitress. she is delightful and extremely attentive but never overly doting. she refreshingly asks "any complaints?" a few minutes after you've gone prisoner style on your food. she never forgets a face - she remembered me as a repeat customer. she answers any questions and helps folks like me who butcher the pronunciations as i stumble through the menu. ambiance: it feels as if you are dining in a long, overly decorated hallway. albeit a very charming mediterranean hallway. the restaurant is oddly quiet, which is a bit unnerving...it doesn't match the bold flavors and strong personalities of the women running the joint. drive to madrona. eat at bistro turkuaz...you'll leave happy! it makes for a nice place to go for intimate dinner conversation and excellent food. just bring some gum or mints if you're on a date...or go across the street and stuff a few cupcakes in your mouth and call it a night! read more

Three of us had dinner at Bistro Turkuaz on September 23 and were impressed with the quality of the food and the service. The appetizers, baked feta and tabouli, were really tasty and different than the run of the mill. We each had a different entree, beef and lamb kabobs and the Turkuaz Special. The entrees and accompanying sides were super. The waitress, the owner's daughter, was charming and provided excellent service. The owner/chef came out an inquired about how we liked our meals and seemed to be truly appreciative of our rave reviews. Certainly an encore visit in the future. read more

We tried the zucchini pancakes, hummus, chicken kabobs, tabouli, and baklava. Everything was wonderful and made from scratch. The baklava was outstanding, the best I have had in several years. Not too syrupy or sweet, with the right balance of crispy, sweet, and nutty. read more

We first went here when we moved to Madrona 3+ years ago and it's one of our favorite restaurants in the city. Great food, very nice and friendly family who owns the place, and nice location. It doesn't have a ton of seats/tables and so you need to make reservations on busier nights. I think they only open for dinner, which is too bad as it would be nice to get lunch there too occasionally. Great place for us to get food that our daughter with dairy and nut allergies can enjoy too! read more

The BEST lamb I've ever had!!! The dolma is served hot and absolutely melts in your mouth! This is the perfect place for a romantic meal. The ambiance is beautiful and the outstanding service and food make you feel like you are the only guest. The Turkish wine we had was simply amazing. A group of five of us went for dinner the other night and could not have had a better experience. The server was FABULOUS. It was a busy night but she did a stellar job helping and encouraging us to relax and enjoy. The shrimp appetizer was a big hit as were all the entrees. I had a dinner with my grands at Bistro Turkuaz two nights ago. My grandmother is a very picky woman so she doesn't eat every food or she eats it and complains about it. They came to Seattle to visit me. I knew that I had to take them to Turkuaz. Fist I made a reservation for 3 of us. We were there at 6 and our table was waiting for us. Waiter is so nice, she knows her job very well. We ordered Acuka and Babaganush, came with warm pita bread. Babaganush was very tasty but personally I think Acuka was the best appetizer on the menu. They also have very good wine menu. We got the Turkish red wine. It was a very good wine. For the dinner we ordered mix kobab, lamb shank and chicken kobab. My grandmother had the mix kobab with rice and my grandfather had the lamb shank. They were very happy with their food and I was also happy that they liked the food and the place. Thank you guys for the delicious food, I hope this restaurant goes on forever otherwise Madrona would be very simple without Bistro Turkuaz !!!! read more

Astonishing mutton kebabs! Cooked to absolute perfection! Even the simple Basmati rice tastes unique and stands apart from the rest of Seattle's similar Restaurants' dishes...courteous service with a warm and sensual surrounding. Hope to go back as soon as possible! read more

Bistro Turkuaz is one long, not large, room and kitchen up a few stairs, in Madrona. The menu is not large but has many good choices. The wine list is short. Prices are very reasonable. We were two for dinner on a Wednesday. The baba ghanoush was very good. It was the real thing, not the lumpy, expensive paste you find in the supermarket. The saksuka - eggplant cubes, peppers and tomatoes was good. The pita slices were crisp but not brittle. For entrees we had the stuffed vegetables - zucchini and green pepper stuffed with meat speckled rice with tomatoes. These were very good. The chicken kebab was moist and tasty on a bed of tabouli. Both entrees came with yogurt sauce on the side. The baklava we shared for dessert was not too sweet but a little on the soggy side. The service was good and efficient. The noise level was OK. To sum: This is a nice place with good food and service. It's an introduction to eastern mediterranean food and might even make you consider why some maven said "There are four great cuisines - French, Italian, Chinese and Turkish". read more

The food is pretty good, portions very small though. It is crowded in there. We were at a long table, party of 6, backed up to another long table and pushed and shoved by the wait staff all night as they tried to get by. It was also extremely loud and we could not hear each other talk, as one large party (the one we were smashed against) was intoxicated and having fun, shouting etc but pretty much ruining our night. I felt like the staff ignored us because the other group was buying a lot of wine. Of note, we did spend about 200 dollars. read more

This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. 15 minutes after ordering, my partner was informed they were out of an ingredient for his dish. When they brought out the food, they brought a wrong dish. It turns out that my dinner was either completely forgotten or given to someone in their take out order. When my food did finally arrive, it was mediocre at best - little flavor. The service was poor and the food over-priced and poor tasting. We will not be returning. read more

I was part of the group that attempted to eat at Bistro Turkuaz, but ended up being ignored and leaving (see review by Julie A.). We were very disappointed because we had heard positive reviews of the food and the atmosphere. We really wanted to like the place, after waiting around for about 40 minutes and not being seated we decided to take our business elsewhere. When I had called I was told that they did not take reservations for parties smaller than six. That evening we stood around staring at an open four top which was eventually filled by people who were not on the waiting list, but who had a reservation. The reservation policy does not appear to be very consistent. We were told that they had reservations because they were "regulars." Well, if Bistro Turkuaz wants other regulars, then they might want to treat potential guests with more tact. While we were waiting, and the four top remained open, neither the owner nor the server said anything to us to explain why we weren't being seated. We ended up going down the street to Cafe Soleil and had an excellent dinner with amazing service! read more

I was planning a dinner for my best friend's birthday and found out that this was her favorite restaurant I called for reservations for 6 for the next evening at 7and was told that they needed a credit card to hold the reservation in case we didn't show. I complied. The next morning the birthday girl woke up and was really sick. I called right away to cancel, but of course they weren't open, so left a message. No one called me back so I kept calling, finally fetting a hold of someone a little after 2. She told me that they would have to charge my card $60 for canceling. I told her I was told that it was in case we didn't show and I had given 8 hours notice we would not be coming. She said yes. I told her that wasn't right and called the charge bullshit as they would make more than that on the people that did show. She said it was their policy and said thank you. Good bye. They will not be getting any of my money in the future. $60! What a rip. read more
