My fiancé & I were in town from Georgia for the weekend. We came across this restaurant while walking around Larimer Square. The patio immediately caught our attention with the lights & ambiance. We weren't sure what type of cuisine they served, but we decided to try it by looks alone. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by Douglas who asked if we needed to see a menu. We glanced at the menu/wine list & it was a definite yes. Honestly I had never had French food so I was excited to try something new. We had just got engaged a couple of hours prior so I told Douglas we were celebrating!! When he took us to our table outside he & the staff set up the perfect display. They even had champagne waiting for us! Douglas was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. Nathan was our server, who was amazing!! He was patient with us when we asked questions & gave suggestions on cocktails. I went with the Baie Rose & my fiancé got the Blueberry Old Fashion. They were both delicious. For dinner we shared the Steak Frites & Filet de Pore. It was one of the most incredible meals we have ever had. The steak & pork were so tender. Nathan even made sure that the nearby tables were cleaned off before we took any pictures. I truly appreciated that as this was a special night for my fiancé & I. Meh. 3 stars for the attentive service, but......what happened?! I've been a patron of Bistro Vendome for quite a few years, and was so excited to try their new location, and was let down, and not because of the location, or the ambiance. My husband ordered the risotto, which used to be incredible (I suggested he get it, I wish I wouldn't have) It now comes with this popcorn crumble on top, and that's pretty much all you taste. Who wants that?! Like, I get it....add that "crunch", or "depth", but I'd rather had Ritz crackers crumbled on top. When I'm out for a nice restaurant, the last thing I want is feeling like I'm at a movie theater. My Schnitzel tasted overly fried, or like the oil was old. Kudos on the Lima bean cassoulet, the sweetness of that cut the wildly oversalted chicken on the plate. Oh, and the homemade chips that come with the tartare are great, but tartare should be served with bread. The chips cheapen it, and they don't even pair well. I've recommended this restaurant to many people, but I probably won't be now, and I don't think I'll be back either. I don't know what happened, but......yikes. It was almost as if we were walking into a little bistro in Paris, as we turned off of Larimer into the small alley that led us to Bistro Vendome. The patio tables donned with white tablecloths out front added to the charm of the place, as did the wine cellar where we had dinner. The salad du marche came beautifully prepared with fresh peaches and beets, mixed greens, goat cheese, and walnuts. The portion was adequate for an first course. Although the special of the day, which was quail stuffed with a celery root risotto, sounded enticing, I ordered steak frites with their green peppercorn sauce. The black pepper encrusted beef had a nice outward crunch that contrasted the tender meat. It was served with their pommes frites which came with a sweet gastrique that I found pared well with both the fries and the steak. I appreciated the fact that the fries were not served under or on top of the beef, which was covered in a green peppercorn sauce, thus preserving the crispness of the fries. I only wished that the fries were better prepared, as they were too crunchy and crispy. They needed a lighter fry and seasoning. Too full from the meal, I skipped dessert, although the lavender macarons and the chocolate bouchons sounded delicious. Having dined at Rioja, a sister restaurant in the past, I had high hopes for this place and they did not disappoint us. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. I've been here twice now, only for brunch, but the food is very very good! I love the location off Larimer, its in a quiet corner area with an inside and an outdoor courtyard area for dining. Perfect Brunch on a Weekend Morning! Attentive and friendly staff with no "rush" to leave; my husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal, read the paper, and unwound after a long M-F on the pretty courtyard patio. We began with French press coffee ($6 for a full pot) and lovely beignets ($5) served with a peach- whipped cream dipping compote. Yum! Our server, Michael, gave excellent menu advice and attentive meal service. I had the quiche, while my husband enjoyed his Eggs Benedict, served with crisp seasoned frites. My hubs was a little frustrated at first since this was my 40th Bday dinner and he had requested outdoor sitting however, due to prom I'm assuming all the heaters were used forcing us inside. The hostess really didn't do much to accommodate moving a heater for us but we adapt right? After finding the right seat inside we adjusted and the night moved smoothly. Not going to lie at first glance the menu scared me! Not because of the French wording, because of the adventurous combinations of food. My hubs was not willing to try escargot with me so we settled for a savory French crepe, some delicious red French wine, and two very tasty entrees. I enjoyed the salmon perfectly charred on the outside yet tender and flaky on the inside. My hubs enjoyed the steak and frites. While we have always enjoyed Bistro Vendome in the downtown location, we love the new spot near Stapleton on Kearney & 22nd in a much quieter neighborhood! Free parking and so much easier to get to when meeting others from the surrounding suburbs. There's a nice menu selection and everything we ate was delicious (Trout, Mussels & Scallops ). Make sure to save room for dessert, the Peach cobbler and lemon cube were scrumptious. We were fortunate to have Badger as our wait person, friendly, professional and fun to interact with. Took my best friend out for her birthday dinner and we were not disappointed! We have actually never been to a French restaurant and Bistro Vendome was recommended by my boyfriend! We ordered the moule and beef tartare for appetizer; black bass and pork tenderloin for entree; and enjoyed a cup of French coffee and apple frangipane tart for dessert. I cannot even start how delicious everything was. We barely talked (which is a rare surprise) throughout our whole meal because we enjoyed our food very much. Food is delish, ambiance is perfect for a French bistro, and the location is great for walking around Larimer Square. Removed one star because of service issues. Food: I had the mussels, which were perfectly seasoned and accompanied by delicious truffle fries. The other person in my party ordered the pork chops, which were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The wine pairings recommended complimented our respective dishes very well, which we appreciated. We had the creme brulee for the grand finale and were miserably happy about it. Service: Despite booking a reservation well in advance, we were placed in an out of the way corner, even though other tables were open. Possibly as a result, we were not greeted or even brought water for almost 15 minutes and couldn't catch the attention of a waiter. I was only able to get service by going to the front and asking that they send someone over. The explanation given was that they didn't see the other member of my party arrive. I'm not sure why that would preclude you from coming to see if I wanted water or a drink to start? I'm sure if I were to go back, this is probably not the norm and I would update to 5 stars. We had been regulars at BV on Larimer street. Or last two visits, post covid were really disappointing. The menu had been smaller and food/service were just average. We are long term Park Hill residents now living in Central Park. Our first visit to the new venue on Sunday night was so refreshing and gave us hope that they made a great decision to move. Our waiter Matt was excellent and fun to chat with. The menu is what we remembered from before. Great choices and variety. Everyone at our table was happy with their food choice. Desserts were to die for and easily shared. A minor issue was the ventilation needs adjustment. We were in the center room and there was a lot of cold air being blown in enough that we all felt chilled at the end of the evening. Noise is a problem for me with a hearing loss and we were seated in a busy, noisy spot right where the kitchen expediters were working and talking with staff all the time. The potential is there and Park Hill will support a good restaurant. read more

I've been a few times to Bistro Vendome for dinner since my last review and just realized I am way overdue for an update! In the evening, the atmosphere inside is charming and inviting (when it can feel a little dark during the day) and most importantly, the food is good and service attentive. You are greeted with an amuse-bouche, and the bread is warm and delicious, which is always a good start. Honestly, I could just have a piece of cheese and a glass of wine with that bread and be perfectly happy. Last time though, we decided to do appetizer, main dish and dessert because so many things on the menu were tempting. My husband started with the Pâté Vendôme, the best country pâté I've had in a long time! As for me, whenever I see rillettes on a menu, I want it really bad, but I've been disappointed so often that I've become reluctant to order it. After our waitress told me it's made in-house and not just a pâté, I am glad I trusted her, and indeed the duck rillettes were very good. Then, my husband had the duck confit, also delicious. I had the Poisson Entier, a whole fried Alamosa striped bass served with a Nantua sauce and squash. Being French, I am used to have an entire fish in my plate, head and all, still the way Bistro Vendôme presents it managed to surprise me! The poor thing was standing as if trying to swim, and I must say it's a little too dramatic, even for me. For dessert, we had a Pavlova filled with a white chocolate mousse, also delicious. As romantic restaurants go, this is a hard one to beat. A French bistro located on Larimer Street but away from the stores fronting the street. Prices are moderate to high with the food preparation generally being excellent. Although the menu changes, the steak and frites seem to be a constant and worth trying. My flight was delayed so we came straight here from the airport, it was nice to show up at a nice cozy little French bistro place to relax with a drink and have some good food. Our group was about 10 people, so they were able to accommodate us nicely with a large table in the breezeway of the restaurant. Don't worry, they had plenty of heat on to keep us warm. Since I was in town for work, this was my first time here. Menu looked good, seemed to be quite French but all the descriptions sounded good to me. For my entrée, I decided to get the "Truite aux Raisins" (it was trout). It was quite good, pan seared trout with a nice crispy skin and cooked real nice, super flavorful and seasoned well. It came with this spinach, cherry tomato, hazelnuts and cooked grapes. A little heavy on the butter for me but it was nice pairing with the trout and of course I ate it up. I always have room for dessert and the dinner portions aren't ridiculous so I got the Coffee Cheesecake with this orange marmalade on top. It was a great ending to a dinner, not heavy, not too sweet and cheesecake wasn't super thick but more on the light side. Not sure how that is possible but whatever, it was very good. Service was fine, the gal worked hard to keep up with our group, clearing and refilling etc. Other staff was great as well to help bring out all the entrees to get our dinner all at the same time. It was a good first night dinner while being in town, everyone in my group seemed to like their dinner and we all left merrily walking down the street. The new location in Park Hill is just as eclectic, family friendly and chic as the Larimer location was. After being a long time patron of that location, having gone often with family and friends, I was sad to see it moving. Tthe new digs are a bit more modernized, but still retains that Parisian "je ne sais quoi!" Met my girlfriends there for a birthday brunch and got a sweet birthday card hand-signed by the staff! Our server was still learning the ropes and they had just restarted their brunch hours. But everything was delicious and impeccably made (especially my favorite Bistro Frites!!) and our server was friendly even while working though the hiccups. My friend and I are in town for a few days and really wanted to have a tasty, decadent dinner. Luck was on our side tonight. The ambiance at Bistro Vendome is charming and lovely. Without reservations, we were lucky to be seated in the courtyard . The white lights and patio fixtures made me feel like I was being transported to Paris. Now, let's talk about the food! The escargot was served differently than what I am accustomed to - it was topped with crunchy bread crumbs (or something that tasted like that), adding a crispy texture to an otherwise buttery snail. It was unique and delicious. Steak and frites - medium rare with bernaise sauce. This chunk of meat was cooked to perfection AND the kitchen had it cut up for me. It was juicy, tender, and heavenly. The fries were crispy was well, but they tasted a little sweeter than I expected. Blueberry tart with vanilla ice cream - the blueberries were warm and sweet. The combination of hot and cold really brought out all sorts of flavorful sweet flavors. If you like dessert, PICK THIS DISH! Gorgeous presentation. Chocolate soufflé - so warm and delicious. The sauce came in a little cup that looks like a lamp. The soufflé just melted in my mouth. This dish wasn't pretty, but it was sure tasty! It makes me very sad to write this review. Bistro Vendome used to be my fiancée and my favorite restaurant in Denver, and we had some truly special memories there. Sadly, it appears that along with their move to Park Hill, many other things have changed. Vibe/Ambiance: No longer that classic French bistro with the simple yet elegant courtyard and decor, this place now looks like yet another hipster trope with quirky graphics on the wall and is completely lacking in character. Food: The classic dishes we were used to were no longer what they once were and the new ones did not live up to the old ones' standards, nor that of the bill that came at the end of the meal. Bland Foie Gras with whipped cream on top (if you know anything about food you know not to pair like textures/flavors), Steak Tartare with meat that was very clearly not fresh, and a forgettable rabbit dish served with unevenly cooked and many mostly raw vegetables. Wine: Paid over $80 for a bottle that smelled and tasted of slightly acidic Kool-Aid and nothing more. Complete waste of money, and I had been looking forward to this all week. Seeing as it was not corked, I did not feel like I could reasonably send it back, and was stuck with one of the worst wines I have ever tasted. Service: Our server was the one redeeming quality of this meal and she provided wonderful service, but even here the bistro fell short. There was no sommelier nor anyone with what seemed to be the most basic knowledge of wine (in a not inexpensive French restaurant..) I decided to trust their recommendation based on amazing past experiences (it was Bistro Vendome that changed my opinion on Pinot Noir for the better and introduced my fiancée to one of her favorites, Sauternes) but was completely disappointed. Tucked away down a walkway off of Larimer Square, Bistro Vendome has a great courtyard under a big tree that is great for dining al fresco when the weather is nice. I got the brick shrimp app, which are best described as a French take on an egg roll. The celeraic slaw that accompanies it was definitely more traditional French.
