I've been here twice now. Once for a private event and once for my birthday brunch because everybody kept telling me how great their brunch is. They were right. First of all, the service was nothing less than stellar. Everybody who helped us was top notch, attentive, and totally on point. I have met the owner Beth at a couple of food events, and she's wonderful. The ambiance is great, and I love the location. Between everybody in our group, I think we tried a significant portion of the menu, and there was not a complaint in the group. The omelet, the burger, the waffles, the yogurt, the pastries...everything was to die for. The cocktails were wonderful, and to top it all off, they ended the meal with a birthday card signed by the whole staff. We're already talking about when we want to go back. I'm a fan. I really love Bistro Vendome's charming Parisian style. The patio, the big board menus on the wall and the whole atmosphere! We popped in on a Saturday around lunch hour. It took a bit of time to get seated, not because there was a huge line, but because the hostess was just moving kinda slow. It also took awhile to get a waiter's attention to put in a drink order (or by that time our entire order since we sat for so long). Still, the slow service aside I loved the food and overall atmosphere. We started with a selection of mini pastries. Each of which was more delightfully buttery and flaky than the last - my favorite being the apricot danish! Yum! I went with the classic A croque-monsieur (hot ham and cheese) and it came with their out of this world pommes frittes. The sandwich was on brioche and had just the right about of cheese (I think Gruyere) and ham. The fries are some addictive rosemary, salt, pepper, sugary blend of yummy goodness. Hubby had the Kobe hamburger and they served it on an English muffin (love) and with some spicy citrusy ketchup (which tasted exactly as it sounded - I stole some for my fries). I had higher expectations for this place and 2 dishes stood out and were Divine, but I still can only give an over all 3 star maybe 3.5. So my youngest daughter is expanding her palate beyond truffles "thank the gods!" Because she's into French Cuisine, while on the other hand Hubby Hates everything French. lol This place over all is definitely one of the worse French places I've eaten at aside from the 2 dishes I will review about. Service - HORRIBLE! The guy took forever, and the old people next to use came way after us and got their food before we did & We were dying of thirst for more water because he never refilled the bottle they leave on our table.. They took our bread, which we had more than 1/2 left, which was fine if they offered us another bread like he did with the old couple next to us, but Nope he did not! He dropped there dishes and the glass wine right next to me and I was wearing a dress and felt the glass shatter on my leg. Lucky I didn't get cut, but he didn't even APOLOGIZE!! WTF!!!!! I don't like to complain or cause scenes, which is why I yelp. So here's the low down! French onion soup - ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! Where is the cheese? there was hardly any, and it literally tasted like Store bought broth, but worse, which nasty bread. What a waste of $7. Escargot - The sauce was tasty, but the escargot didn't seem to have soaked in any of the flavor and very disappointing. Worse escargot I've had yet as well! Cauliflower salad - Now this was Out of this WORLD GOOD! I wish I got 2 more of these instead of the first 2 above. My daughter & I aren't big fans of cauliflower to begin with, but I'm a sucker for anything with capers and anchovies, so we got this and was Instantly in Heaven! Steak Frites - Classique - This was pretty good, but the meat was sliced too thick and it was a bit rubbery, but the sauce was good. The fries were kind of over cooked borderline burnt tasting or stale. Roasted Chicken - THIS was Literally my daughter & I's best Roasted Chicken we've EVER HAD! The sauce was nice and salty and it gave the veggies and chanterelle mushrooms the Perfect seasoning! The skin on the chicken was Divine and perfectly crispy. This was HEAVENLY SINFULLY DELICIOUS! Creme Brulee- THis was good, but you really can't make bad CB if you offer it in a restaurant, or you'd really go out of business. Over all Even though the 2 Main dishes were Off the HOOK good, I still could not give this place more than 3 stars because service was "THAT BAD!" I've had Much better service for spending 75% less than this place at Hole in the wall Diner's! Yup, I won't even give this place another chance eating in, but maybe a carry out for the Cauliflower salad & Roasted chicken. read more

The four of us agreed the food is very good, reasonable portions--recommend. Our server was personable and capable--recommend. We discovered the requested wine we requested was out of stock and the alternative was not great quality --retail on the Chateau Grand Village 2017 is $29; Bistro Vendome price was $100; it lacked body. The wine list is restricted to only French wines, presumably for the French ambiance; but the trade-off = less selection, thus limited quality/value equation. The server 'sells' the table on upgrading the butter to a "Normandy" cow butter, which IMHO was no better than Irish butter and many US high grade butters. The portion was about a tablespoon for the upcharge. Lastly, this venue has taken to the recent trend of adding a surcharge of 5% to the entire bill on the basis of paying employee benefits. Instead of building the cost of operations into the food/beverage prices, which in addition to appealing to the diner on the basis of benefits for lower wage workers, this is one way of making menu food prices appear 5% lower than they actually are. This can also result in diners reducing the tip that goes directly to the workers vs. through a benefit plan that may or may not be utilized or desired by the server we had. We find this practice inappropriate, and frankly, irritating. We also felt the upcharge on a minor item added to a feeling of being nickeled and dimed. We will consider dining there again if/when management ceases with these types of tactics. read more

Without repeating what has already been said in previous reviews, I must add that I did not like their mint soda. I thought it was going to be a refreshing drink similar to a virgin mojito, but... It was like a cup of carbonated water galvanized with cheap peppermint syrup. It was like a peppermint candy cane left in water and sunlight for too long. Wow! There is a new brunch menu since the last time I came here and it is vastly improved! The menu is far more interesting and indicative of the caliber of Jennifer's other restaurants. I ordered what is essentially a croque madam (grilled ham and Gruyere topped with bechamel sauce and a fried egg). The fries that came with were the perfect fry although they were a bit over salted. Not that I didn't not eat them because I love a good fry! The service was spot on especially given the fact that we were a large party. read more

I enjoyed my dinner last night very much. The weather wouldn't corporate to sit outside as first planned, so we were moved inside quickly, but then it seemed like the servers didn't know who had our table. We were ignored for nearly 10 minutes. Then service improved very much. Glass of bubbly for me and wine for my man. We started with the escargot appetizer which was good, but the sauce was so overpowering I couldn't tell you there were snails in the dish. I say them, put them in my mouth, but only tasted the sauce. For entrees we got the day's special- surf & turf. Shrimp and pork belly and the duck confit. Both were so good! And lastly, we had the crème brulee and it was the best brulee I've ever had. The texture was so smooth like lotion and the top perfectly crispy. So ya like to say things like, "We'll have the Chocolate Poe Duh Krem Bree-Ohsh Bread Pudding With Tweel," and sound like Nicolas Sarkozy ordering a little dessert for Carla Bruni? This place was SMASHING... And not just because I broke a glass on my way out - WHOOPS! The food was delicious, and my stomach felt as if it took a flight to Paris. When my hungry dining companions and I sat down at our table, we immediately devoured the brunch menus handed to us. Yes, I would have taken a bite, however, I controlled myself because I had a HUNCH that some delicious grub would be served to us... Good things come to those who wait, right? I ordered the MUSSELS while two of my friends ordered the French Toast and my other friend ordered the Trout Omelette. When our dishes arrived, we hardly spoke a word to each other... All I heard were food gasms - It seriously sounded like a food porn video, AKA: The food was extremely "pleasurable". I really don't have anything negative to say about this restaurant, at all. It was classy and accepted me in my "un-classy" yoga "uniform"! I am NOT SURE why French people get a bad rap for being snooty, this place was NOT pretentious at all, just plain delicious! If you can, try and sit outside. So so great! My boyfriend and I have been looking for good French food after having lived in France for a year, it has been hard to find quality French food in the US.... and we found it at Bistro Vendome! It's such a lovely atmosphere, perfect for celebrating a bday, anniversary, etc. I called ahead and said it was my boyfriends birthday and we were greeted with a happy birthday and a card signed by all staff! The food was to die for. Seriously it's tough to find good moules frites but they smashed it and my boyfriend said the steak frites was incredible. They also served complimentary bread and dessert was on the house! Such a great atmosphere, yummy food, really nice server.... can't go wrong. We will be back! :) read more

Not a good culinary experience at all. The service and restaurant were beautiful. Great atmosphere, and the wine we chose was excellent and delicious. Our server was very nice. But, the food that we were served was seriously lacking. The appetizers were mediocre: I've had much better and tastier pate at other French restaurants. The only ingredient that came through was raw onion. Not great. The sweetbreads were not prepared to showcase the main ingredient and were medium/ large diced, hidden under a over-lemony sauce. Served on a puff pastry. Just very underwhelming execution, as I was excited to see sweetbreads on their menu. The steak frites were good, although the the perfectly cooked herb frites were heavily over salted to the point of nearly inedible so I wasn't able to finish those. Such a shame, and I consider myself a salt person. My husband ordered the seafood stew which was also ok, but the sauce had not much depth of flavor. We were disappointed in this $200 plus meal for the culinary mediocrity, as well as we were truly looking forward to having a good French restaurant in the neighborhood of Park Hill. We won't be returning unless the kitchen makes adjustments and taste more of their food going out. read more

Bistro Vendome is literally a hidden Denver gem. I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado Denver and had often walked on Larimer to get to school. Never once had I noticed this place. It is tucked away in its own little private space on Larimer street. I have never been to France, but this place makes you feel as if you are there. There's plenty of seatings inside and out. Luckily, it was a nice evening so my party decided to dine outside. It was a very beautiful view; nice, quiet, and private also away from the busy streets of Denver. As for the food it was quite delightful. My party went all out and did a three course dining experience. We started with escargot and mussels. The seafood was fresh and delicious. As for entrees, my brother-in-law ordered the hanger steak and frites, my sister had the baked salmon, and I ordered the braised pork ribs. The sauce on my pork ribs was a little overpowering and sour. However, the ribs were really good. I also enjoyed the accompanying salad; the apples was a nice sweet touch. I also had the privilege to try their entrees as well. The hanger steak was perfectly done; juicy and tender. The baked salmon appeared quite odd and did not look as good as it tasted. Wow, we were really surprised on that one. As for dessert, I ordered cherry macarons with cheesecake filling and my sister had the creme brûlée. Both were divine and very tasty. One of the very best in Denver!!! First off this place is adorable, charming, romantic, and just all around fantastic from the moment you enter the beautiful courtyard. The service is professional, high quality, and very attentive. The servers knowledge of the menu, wine included is impressive. The bar is quaint and charming as well. For the food I could just go on and on... You will be dreaming of trips to Paris during and long after your experience. Eating here is a dining experience to savor. Go with an open schedule. Please don't rush so you can taste your way through the stellar menu, which is cover to to cover perfection. Having eaten here several times so far here's what's amazing: Mussels are delish!! The grilled asparagus salad was Devine. Their leg of duck is melt in your mouth. The steamed halibut is near perfection. And my favorite of all has been their leg of Lamb... Wow!!! Our friend called and made a reservation at this restaurant. She said they did her a HUGE favor because they're usually really busy. We had dinner at Bistro Vendome on April 9, 2016. When we arrived they had a long table, ready for the 10 of us. It was so beautiful! The doors were open and we could see the back patio, the fountain. So nice. I ordered the steak tartare and it was delicious. Maybe a little bit salty but it has anchovies so the saltiness' to be expected. Some of the people in our group ordered cocktails and they loved them. I ordered the pommes frites (french fries) but I never got my order. I tried someone else's fries and they were delicious. I just ordered them because I read all the great reviews about it here. Everybody enjoyed their food and their time there. It's a very cute place to go for a special occasion. Our server was great, too. The only issue we had was that the next day one of the ladies in our group thought she may have left her credit card there and she called to ask to make sure she didn't forget her card there and apparently whoever answered the phone was pretty rude. She was told they'd check and they'd call her back. She ended up finding her card somewhere else but she never got a phone call from them either. read more

This is my favorite French restaurant in Denver! Even better that they moved to East Denver! Woohoo!!!

We came in early and there was hardly anyone there. It took 30 minutes to get our starters and 45 minutes after that to get our entrees. I understand waiting for food when the restaurant is busy but we were one of the first tables there. The portions are ridiculously small and the entrees are basically protein and a very small salad. Not worth the price. Will not be returning. read more

Came here solely because of the Yelp reviews and glad to contribute! We started with the escargot appetizer and it was deliciously delivered in puffed pastry form. Loved the hazelnuts mixed in. For dinner my boyfriend ordered the venaison poêlé and says it was cooked well, a bit bland on the seasoning, and the appetizer was better. I ordered the cassoulet. I'm a fan of duck, and a fan of this meal. Very flavorful and filling. The waitress messed up our beer order twice and even charged us for the wrong beer, one that was double in price! She took a bit long to deliver and process the bill, we didn't even bother trying to correct her for the overcharged bill. read more

I ate dinner here with a group of friends on New Year's even and had a great experience. We tried quite a few dishes. All of them were very good and some were outstanding! Previously I thought that I wasn't a big fan of mussels or escargot but both these dishes here changes my mind! They were both absolutely delicious! I've been having cravings for those mussels ever since (that sauce was incredible!). The escargot does come with a puff pastry, so beware if that isn't your style. We tried the duck confit which was also tasty, but didn't stand out as much as the others. I wouldn't order it again solely because I would dedicate all the space in my stomach to the other food we ordered! The other stand out dish was the steak frites. I ordered the Au Poivre style which meant the steak was rolled in green peppercorns. My steak was perfectly cooked as I requested and the frites, OMG the frites!! They were probably the best fries I have ever had! They are a little bit sweet and that flavor combines perfectly with the savory. They are incredible by themselves (which normally I'm not a plain fry kind of gal) but also were SO good in the aioli dipping sauce served with them. We finished off the meal with some tasty crème brûlée. The ambiance was nice. We were in an area that made it feel like we were dining outside on a street in France (while having all of the comforts of being inside a warm restaurant on a cold December night). We stepped into this fine restaurant with only 40 minutes for dinner before a play started. We explained this to our waiter and he said they could do it. We had a fabulous dinner with salads and main courses. I had the scallops dish and my mother had the lamb shank. Both were cooked to perfection and accompanied by wonderful sauces. To have such a wonderful dinner and make it to the play was a great experience. I must come back when I can give this place the time it deserves! read more

Wonderful French bistro. Although it resides in the heart of Larimer Square, I was happy to see the restaurant was tucked away from the crowds for a more secluded date night. Wonderful Brunch. They have a fantastic cheese plate, (although slightly over-priced $12 for 3 cheeses), everything tasted amazing. I enjoyed to bleu cheese paired with the poached pear the most. The floral jam was also great. Good french press coffee. Delicious warm fresh baguette- crusty on the outside, soft on the inside with butter. We tried the Omelette a l'Avocat et Triple Crème: avocado and scallion cream cheese omelet, choice of: Dungeness crab salad or marinated mushroom salad (we chose the crab). Kudos to the French and the Chef/ cooks for their ability to make something so wonderfully creamy, yet fluffy and light. The Galette de Confit de Canard Lyonnaise potato galette, caramelized onion, lavender crème fraîche, two sunny side up eggs, warmed duck confit, pickled red onion, orange basil salad had great bold flavors and textures. My wife and I were just in Denver and we decided to visit Bistro Vendome for a nice dinner and to celebrate the 7 years we've shared since we started dating. This is actually our 3rd time going to Bistro Vendome even though we live in STL - clearly we have never been let down!!! Service is always spot on and all of the people we've interacted with have been friendly, helpful and very polite. I overheard our server mention to another patron she had been there for over 10 years and it doesn't surprise me the least as she was really an expert in caring for the customer. As for the food, they serve a nice crusty bread which has great flavor and almost an everything bagel style seasoning. I've had the french onion soup and it's been some of the best I have enjoyed! My wife has tried the salad verte and enjoyed it very much also. For the mains, I have only had the hangar steak frites (au poivre) every time - it's so good so I just can't convince myself to try anything else. The steak is always cooked perfectly and the sauce is expertly crafted - but one cannot forget about the frites. One cannot divulge in the frites without eating almost every last one. They are glazed in a sweet and sticky vinaigrette that makes them seriously the best fries I've ever had!!! Wife has had the scallops in the past as well as the pan roasted chicken most recently and given rave reviews for both. I tried her chicken and can also offer up that this is another solid option - but seriously, why are you still debating? Get some steak frites and be done with it!!! In terms of the ambiance, the service and the food, Bistro Vendome over delivers and we have had the best times at this restaurant! All I can say is OH. MY. GOD! If I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars, I would! Tucked into a little side breezeway of Larimar Square, this restaurant leaves absolutely nothing to be desired! My companion and I got there an hour early, because we wanted some time to lounge at the bar for a little while and enjoy happy hour before dinner. The bar tender (whose name escapes me... so sorry!) was very friendly and knew his stuff; His recommendations were spot on and we enjoyed talking with him very much. The drinks were great - He recommended a great beer to my companion and several terrific tasting cocktails! While at the bar we decided to try the French Onion Soup on happy hour. They accommodated us by splitting it in 2 and let me tell you it was just terrific!!! So many places make it way too salty but the chef here really knows what she is doing and this was some of the best French onion soup I have had in my 50+ years! Once seated for dinner, we were greeted by our waiter, Joe. If you can, ask for Joe, as he is just wonderful! Very attentive, also knows his stuff and just had a really great personality! The chef started us off with an "amuse bouche" - a small wafer with this really good roasted pepper pate, which was a nice surprise that we weren't expecting. We ordered the escargot as our appetizer (terrific) and our waiter Joe read my mind on wanting more bread to soak up the delicious sauce. We asked about wine and he confirmed that our choice would work well with our dinner. Our dinner, the duck, was amazing! Kiddos to the chef, as this was some of the best duck I have had in a very long time! She paired it very well with a plum compote and spiced wheat berries! It was absolutely wonderful! We finished off the night with the special dessert - The tarte tatin; A wonderful flaky crust with poached pears and homemade ice cream. I can't state enough just how amazing all the food and drinks were and I also can't state enough just how wonderful the staff was!! From the minute we arrived to the minute we left everyone was so friendly and attentive! I remarked to my companion that this restaurant is the reason I'm sorry I don't live in Denver!! Bistro Vendome is a charming place. The service was good: not overbearing but always available. I had an excellent pork chop that was the envy of my dining companions. The potatoes that came with it were delicious as well. We all enjoyed the plat de provencal. The pate was especially good, and we loved their cheese selections. Oh, and the pickles! So good. One thing I did not enjoy (and this is based on my personal tastes, not quality) were the frites that a friend ordered. The dusting of sugar is not to my taste, so I'd steer clear of them on my next visit. The food however was just okay . Maybe I'm just not a huge fan of French food, but I thought it was rather bland. The started us with some fresh bread and an amuse bouche of mushroom veloute. The bread the the whipped butter was pretty tasty. The mushroom soup was savory and I wish I could've ordered a boil of that! We ordered the crepe to start. It was good but nothing to write home about. My boyfriend ordered the steak frites and I ordered the salmon. The reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because the meat and fish were all very high quality and fresh. However, the taste of the food was very one note. The best thing of the meal were the fries, those were amazing . They were super thing shoestring fries tossed in a honey and herbs de Provence mixture which worked perfectly to counteract the saltiness of the fries. To drink with the meal, we order beer and wine. The wine the waiter suggested was bad. It was super dry and almost bitter and and a terrible aftertaste. I'm no wine expert, but that wine was not good. I guess this place isn't bad. It's kind of expensive as to be expected with a place on Larimer. This is a good place to try out of you like French cuisine. However, if you're like me and prefer bold flavors, this is not the place for you. Super romantic place and definitely one that'll impress your date. read more
