We waited eight years to come back, and wish we hadn't. Come back, that is. The eight years now seems all too short a time. Let's get right to why we're unhappy and give it a measly two stars: undistinguished, poorly prepared food. The chef apparently believes many dishes should be slathered with avocado, like tuna tartare. And crab cake. Neither dish benefits in any way, and the avocado destroys the flavor. In the case of the tuna, the tuna wasn't fully cut up so it wasn't seasoned all over, just sections. Unacceptable. The swordfish was promising, but it was seriously overcooked and quite dry to taste. Other dishes were served up heavily salted, and never mind what that does to the blood pressure. Finally, our grandson has nut allergies and ordered chicken since we were assured it had no nuts. Turns out there was some nut exposure somehow, perhaps not to the restaurants awareness. We're not penalizing them, but it is concerning. The good news: we had a fine server, attentive and friendly, who was aware of the meal's shortcomings and took a couple of dishes off the bill. I hate giving average reviews, mostly because I don't read them, but some things at Zinc were great and some were vey disappointing. The Beef Bourgogne was fabulous. The salad and gazpacho were really good. The wait staff was excellent. The ambiance and art in the walls was wonderful. But.... They had a special which looked great and smelled great as it came to our neighboring table, but when we ordered it at 7:00pm, they were out. Not acceptable. Their wine list was very disappointing, especially for being promoted as a French Bistro. You should try it, but be ready for some inconsistencies. read more

Going to make a potentially long review short, went to Bistro Zinc two nights in a row. The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. Highlighting Max (partner/bartender) and Melissa (server) who both were great and friendly. A few dishes to highlight, Rib eye (special) chicken franchese and the pasta with the buratta. Also great cocktails and wine menu. Kudos to a restaurant who welcomes patrons and doesn't turn them away like other establishments in the area. They are doing a lot of things right here. read more

For our anniversary, we visited Zinc for lunch, a cozy choice on this cold January day, and we loved it. Carlos, our waiter made us feel at home, and the service was superb. The Butternut Squash soup is a revelation, the Salade Nicoise was excellent--very fresh greens and perfectly cooked tuna, and the Mediterranean trout was delicious too. For desert we shared a wonderful chocolate bread pudding. Very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon. The room was not busy on a Thursday, which made us Covidophobes feel safe. We went on a beautiful May night to this very nice restaurant. The bread was oven fresh and so good. We started sharing a moulles frites. The mussels were tender with a delicious creamy sauce and the French fries crispy and well done and thin. Salmon and rice with spinach for main course really good with a yummy chimichurri sauce on top. The meal was a little salty. The trout with crab and thin green beans and asparagus very good too. We had the worst experience last night. They sat us at a table that you couldn't even get out of and we were on top of the next table. We asked to move and they were not accommodating at all. The food was OK. The Caesar salad was horrible. It had too much Cheese on it and we ordered a Rye cocktail on the rocks and it came in a tall glass with a ton of ice. I can not believe that a bartender would serve a good Rye that way. Clueless. We also ordered burgers and they were OK but not worth $26. I find it hard to believe that this restaurant serves New Yorkers who would never accept this kind of food and service. read more

I had a nice experience here. The Scottish salmon was nicely seasoned, and the rattatouille sauce was a nice addition. The Zinc Burger is also hefty and tasty. My boyfriend really liked the duck confit rolls (appetizer). My waitress was a little awkward - she kept saying "sorry" about random things - but I liked the ambiance. A little over-priced. My husband and I came to the berkshires for our anniversary and we stumbled upon Zinc. We had the fried oyster ceasar salad, and the burger, then followed up with the blueberry crisp. Great spot for lunch. Four of us stopped in after visiting the Clark. Lunch menu was manageable and loaded with great choices. I ordered the French Dip which was braised short ribs on a baguette and served with a flavorful au jus. My wife ordered the salmon omelette and our friends ordered the house burger and the chicken sandwich. All of the meals were well prepared and exceptional. It was a spectacular fall day, and all roads were leading to Lenox Mass for a day of shopping and perhaps lunch. I arrived in Lenox, and as it was 1pm decided lunch was in order. I knew that Zinc Bistro was my lunch spot, so I headed over there. For those who haven't visited here, it is bathed in a lot of sunlight from several windows, and it was a sunny day. I found a lovely table, and was given a menu, from Anna, my server. I ordered a Pinot Grigio from California. It was crisp and clean. After perusing the menu, I ordered the fall salad with roasted cashews, goat cheese and butternut squash, with a chicken cutlet. When I say this salad was superb, I mean SUPERB. It checked every box on my culinary list. I ate slowly, and found that I couldn't finish it, so had it boxed up. Decided that the apple crisp with a dollop of ice cream was in order. Also, got a cup of coffee. The apple crips was delectable. My first apple crisps and without question the best! All in all, this was one of favorite days and lunches. Anna was just delightful. Zinc is the most tremendous French restaurant in the Berkshires and a gem in the northeast. The menu is fantastic. Food is cooked to an individual's liking, each persons own version of subjective perfection. For beef, the au poivre is out of this world. Choose your steak temperature with confidence. Table service is charming, professional and the best around. As a diner, whether its a night out or something to celebrate, Zinc is where to be. But I do take out as often as possible from here! The chardonnay is awesome and the wait staff is so nice and this is my total go to restaurant in town. We enjoyed an outstanding dinner at Bistro Zinc. Every member of our party loved their dinner from appetizer to salad to desert. The food is fresh and perfectly prepared. Service is impeccable and the ambiance is very soothing and conducive to enjoying the food. We started with fried oysters and seared scallops. The oysters were delicately fried and flavorful. The scallops were seared perfectly. Salads were fresh and delicious - highly recommend the goat cheese salad. Our party enjoyed the mountain trout, salmon and eggplant dishes. The fish dishes received high praises making the member who ordered the eggplant wish he had ordered the trout or salmon (that's me btw). Desert is not to be missed! Creme Brûlée is fantastic but the best is the chocolate bread pudding. When visiting Lenox, Bistro Zinc is an excellent choice for a fine dinner. read more

I took my extended family out for a celebration here a few weeks ago and needed to share how wonderful this dinner was. Firstly, we're potentially a difficult group. Toddlers, food aversions, a wine snob...lol. So I was worried making a reservation for a larger group at a nicer place but the waitress and team at Bistro Zinc couldn't have been more accommodating. Changed the table set up when we got there, poured tastes of wines, split up several single orders so people could share, created a kid-friendly dish for a picky 5 year-old... and on. And the food was excellent and drinks mixed well. Everyone was so pleased and I was relieved. Absolutely would recommend Bistro Zinc for larger parties and I'll be returning again soon. Other than not being able to eat here the first time we tried because we didn't have a reservation, this place is great. Had a pomegranate margarita which was delicious, then had the short rib wontons which were also great but maybe deserved a bigger portion. For an entree I had the salmon with shrimp fried rice (wanted the steak but they were out). The salmon was perfectly cooked and the fried rice was so yummy and filling. We didn't have room for dessert unfortunately. Service was excellent and the ambiance / vibe is very cool but subdued. Go here but definitely make a reservation! read more

I loved that I was able to sit at the bar and eat a meal during COVID times. They were conscious of sanitizing areas between guests and social distancing. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The bartender was also very attentive. She recommended the fried oysters. I usually avoid fried food but these were light and delicious. If I could give zero stars I would. We sat at the bar and the bartender was unbelievably curt and rude. My friend was very upset by her actions, so I (tried) to talk with the owner, Jason Macioge, about our concerns. He would not even listen to me and actually was rather threatening! I have NEVER been treated like this...and certainly in my 45 years as a business owner, have NEVER treated a customer like he treated me. I was, actually still am, tremendously upset. He knows nothing about customer relations. As a local resident I will certainly share my story and NEVER frequent Bistro Zinc! read more

Just got back from Lenox, we ate here twice for dinner. Both times sat at the bar as we didn't have reservations. Food was really quite good, fresh, tasty, some good specials (second time I had the creme of mushroom soup and the halibut special, first time I had the Caesar salad with the fried oysters and the pasta dish). Service was fine, the bartender is busy making drinks for the dining room so sometimes had to wait a bit, but to be expected as she (both times had a different female bartender) is quite busy. I only had beer, but a decent draft selection with some good local options. Exhibit A (brewery out of Framingham) had a nice porter and kolsch option. Definitely would go here again if we make it back up to the Berkshires. Place is quite popular so if you don't have a reservation go early to the bar and try to get a spot at the bar. By about 6:00 it's full, at least was the two times we went. read more

My squash soup was warm rather than hot but still delicious. My apple tart desert was just OK for me. The service was excellent. The ambiance was warm and inviting. My stroganoff was delicious. They bent over backwards for my gf girlfriend and made her a plate of grilled veggies appetizer that she loved and only charged $7 for. She loved her Beef Borginoine not sure spelled that correct. Worst restaurant experience in my life. 3 people, 2 soups, one appetizer took over 2 hours to get served. Other customers were coming and going... being served and we still had not received our 2 salads and 1 sandwich. When we told our waitress this was unacceptable she became combative with me. She kept telling us that the front over booked patrons ... why then was she able to turn over so many other tables the entire time we waited. When we told the manager how slow the service was and how combative the waitress was... a patron who had just been seated - who knew NOTHING about how long we had been waiting and how terrible our service was... had the nerve to but in and was defending the waitress. I asked him to mind his own business and he ... then with such an intelligent manner told me to F..k off. I hope he's proud of himself and will consider taking a course on manners!!!! Steer clear of this restaurant. Unless of course you have nothing to do but kill time and don't mind being treated like a big inconvenience to this establishment. read more

I was in Lenox last weekend and fell into Bistro Zinc for dinner. What a find!!!! I had what I consider a Michelin star quality meal. Started with the onion soup which was the best I've EVER had! Very flavorful with Delois crouton and gooey cheese perfection covering. Next I had a burger - but this was no ordinary burger. It has a special secret beef blend that was out of this world. My dinner companion had a trout dish that I tasted. I didn't think I like trout, until now! I would get that the next time I come back --- which is hopefully soon. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to all who enjoy a fine meal. The service was just as good as the food! read more

The food was perfectly fine. The staff was pleasant enough. But this was perhaps the most memorably disappointing fine dining experience in my adult life. As soon as my 2 friends and I walked in, we could feel the heat emanating from one of the 2 dining areas. We were seated under bright lights and next to wall lights that were hot to the touch. When we inquired about how warm the room was we were informed that the AC was on the fritz and nothing could be done. When another set of diners asked why the doors to the second dining area (where diners were wearing sweaters) were shut, they were informed that the AC was functioning there and the manager insisted the doors remain closed and they were not empowered to open them. Eventually the lights dimmed somewhat but the temperature remained high and our mealtime discussion revolved mostly around comparing strategies for coping with the sweat dripping under our (very lightweight) dresses. Why couldn't the staff open the doors? Why didn't the staff warn us before we sat down? Why did hot lighting inches from the dining booths remain on? Why didn't staff give up on AC and open the huge windows? Why weren't guests offered comped drinks or desserts? I don't have the answer for that. But if you would like to enjoy a meal at Zinc this summer I recommend you call ahead and ask if the AC has been repaired or avoid going if the temperature is above 75°. read more

The two stars are for the delightful staff. But be advised nobody in that kitchen has any concept of French cuisine. That would be okay if the food was well cooked, but it wasn't. The trout was overdone and tough, the chicken was flabby, and the mussels were unwashed (stinky) and undercooked. The "baguette" was an insult to baguettes everywhere--imagine Wonder Bread with a bit of a crispy crust and you've got the idea. The frites were decent and the cocktails were pretty good. If someone drags you in here against your will, sit at the bar and have fries and a cocktail, but eat dinner somewhere else. read more

This is a lovely spot. Sophisticated yet warm. Ample bar and lounge which is where I prefer to dine. Imaginative cocktail menu. Their pear & St. Germaine cocktail is most delicious. The bartenders are adept and gracious. French prints and mirrors adorn the walls reminiscent of a typical Parisian bistro, yet w high ceilings and ample lighting, buttery walls. Professional service. The menu offers a nice choice of local game, fresh seafood, and earthy sides all in the spirit of French tradition. The fried goat cheese salad is wonderful w a nice balance of the tangy creamy goat cheese, local greens and tart dressing. The oysters are uber fresh & the moules frites is excellent. Save room for their decadent desserts (I never seem to manage that though). read more

The bottom line is Bistro Zinc mediocre. We started with the moules frites. Mussels were not quite cooked enough, meaning some were not open and many were barely open. Unfortunately, the more open ones were on top so the unopened ones were unnoticed, otherwise they would have bent sent back. Flavor of the mussels was overpowered by the herbs rendering them rather unpalatable. Mussels were also rather sandy. Frites were quite nice, but got soggy and small, at the bottom of the cone. It looks cute and is a traditional way of presenting them, but in the end it just doesn't work. Small plates to accompany the dish would have been nice, but weren't provided. I had the jambalaya. Again, rather mediocre. Dish was warm, not hot, and had too much tomato in the base flavor. Wouldn't do it again. Just boring and uninspired. My wife had the beef bourguignon. It was nice and well prepared. On the plus side, the house white and the house red were both great. The house white was a viognier, the red a grenache. Both were excellent examples of the grape. Delicious meal from start to finish. They serve hot crunchy French bread to start dinner. Salads were simple but well dressed and tasty- the fish entrees (trout and salmon) cooked perfectly. Barely had room for dessert but we did it anyway. Profiteroles were stellar. Highly recommend this spot, it's where the locals go, so you know it's the real deal. read more

I really want to like Bistro Zinc. Unfortunately, the food is just average, yet they charge Lenox tourist prices. There are simply other better restaurants in town. This is my third visit and have never been impressed. This time, I had the Eggplant Nepolean this time. Unfortunately, it was bland. I would have liked a sauce with some herb and spice. But, this wasn't it. I also tasted the trout, which did not make me swoon. The service was good and I like the decor. The large photos, such as the upside-down dog and the Queen blowing a bubble, are fun to talk about. They also don't rush you. But, in summary, it just isn't that special. read more
