Since this place seems newish, I wanted to give them another shot after my previous so-so experience. When my S.O. and I found ourselves craving simple Mediterranean fare on a rainy Sunday, I figured it couldn't hurt to try. While Bite has a nice setting and an appetizing menu, the QC really falls short. The staff is friendly enough, but young and too inexperienced to be at all invested in customer service. First of all, they seem more interested in chatting with one another than being at work. Hey, I get it. I used to serve too and sometimes socializing with coworkers is the only way to stay sane. But it shouldn't be to the detriment of customer service. And it shouldn't take 20 minutes to get two sandwiches and soups when it's not particularly busy. But where Bite really disappointed was with the food. With the memory of my last greasy, underwhelming sandwich still in the back of my mind, I shoulda steered clear of this place, but apparently, I'm a glutton for punishment. Not only were both of our orders excessively salty, but my BF found a produce STICKER in his soup. Blech! This could only mean that someone in the kitchen did not thoroughly wash the vegetables which made us cringe to think about what else we could have found in our food. One of the baristas was kind enough to give him a free iced coffee as recompense, but our appetites were shot and we couldn't finish our food. Next time, I'll pass on this spot. read more

I bookmarked this place for a while now. It was close by my office so I strolled in around 2 pm. It was still busy and I decided to order the combo which came to around 10 bucks. I waited for about 15 minutes and decided to pack it to go since it was taking too long. The half eggplant and mozzarella panini was very good and filling. I decided to eat the meditterrean salad after work. It was not that special just lettuce with a dab of overly salty hummus. I've been to Bite multiple times and even dined in once. It's been one of my go-tos during my lunch break since I work in the area and whenever I go, I make sure to call ahead. I ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich by phone for pick-up to avoid having to wait for my order when I arrived. Although the food is good, they take foreeeeever sometimes so I'd rather call ahead. I have coworkers who come here all the time and I finally decided to try it for myself. I was not in love with the salad I got but I think that's just me not liking the combination of what I had. On my most recent visit, I ordered the salami panini. I know lunch time is super busy but I thought I beat the rush since a few people were waiting for their food and there was no line. I waited almost a half hour for my panini. I am patient for the most part so I did not complain even when 3 separate people had asked me if I was waiting for a pick up order which asking what I ordered so they could check on it. The final straw for me was when a coworker walked in, ordered their food and waited 5 minutes before they received it. When my coworkers food came, I asked the person who handed it to him if they could tell me where my food was. I received a weird look and a "I don't know". I had to ask someone else to look into where my food was because I had been waiting so long. I was very shocked at the lack of customer service. A proper response to the inquiry of an order is asking for my name and saying you will look into it, not "i don't know" and walking away. Lunchtime should not be stressful. read more

The food here was just eh. There are so many incredible restaurants and delis in the city, and I feel like this one didn't live up to its reputation. I asked for a panini without any roasted red peppers, and when I got it, peppers were cut up in little bits throughout the whole sandwich - making them impossible to pick out. Great lunch spot if you're in the area. You can grab half a sandwich and soup or salad for 8 bucks! The sandwiches have plenty on them and are very filling. The only thing that's holding me back from a 5 is the time. Had to wait in line to get my food for over 20 minutes. I did go at lunch time, but next time would order to go and ahead online. I went here to pick up lunch while working today and was so pleasantly surprised; it's a very cute spot with a variety of Mediterranean/middle eastern options. Okay... let me begin with saying I was gonna give this place a 1 Star from the first five minutes. It began with me tripping over a small incline at the entrance of the restaurant and then seeing that the menu had a pick 2 option and only being able to pick one sandwich and then a soup or salad which was not advertised. After the rough stuff, however, came a wonderful experience. So I ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and while it was a basic smoothie made from frozen fruit they decided to give me more than just my cup and gave my table the excess smoothie that was made that usually ends up in the trash. Following that they delivered a smoked turkey sandwich that was very good. The bread was slightly tough for my liking but the presentation was decadent. I enjoyed the atmosphere as a calm and welcoming place to hang out with some friends. It's great for any time of day and has a very bistro type design. Bite is one of my go to spots for lunch in Chelsea/FiDi! It can get pretty busy during weekday lunch hours, so I suggest ordering ahead and picking it up. It can get a bit slow during peak hours. They've got a few tables where you can sit and chill while you eat, but it's not a full sized restaurant. On weekends they're not too crowded. I love the decor too! Tiles all over the floor in lots of pretty colors, taking you out of NYC for a fleeting moment. My favorite thing to order is the Middle Eastern Vegan Sandwich! It's seriously one of the best sandwiches in the city. It's filled with roasted eggplant, hummus, red pepper tapenade, greens and plum tomatoes. How can it get any better? It's cheap! Pretty much everything is under $10 and the portions are very generous. They've got a nice extensive menu that is extremely vegan and vegetarian friendly. I would say about 70% of the menu is meat free! I was a bit disappointed in the Mediterranean Grilled Cheese, but the Tomato Soup that came with it was delicious! We had a lovely late breakfast at Bite. We each chose to have Shakshooka, which was two organic poached eggs in Tunisian tomato sauce with feta cheese. It was served with a chopped tomato and cucumber salad with delicious pita. And I do mean fresh delicious pita, some of the best I have ever had anywhere. We asked for some tahini on the side to put in our Shakshooka (and on our salad) which did not seem to have much feta cheese in it but was very good, if a little on the spicy side. We both enjoyed our meals very much. It was great to find such excellent food close to the garage we parked at as we were there for a medical reason. My Mom had a coffee there even though they did not have decaf and since it was illy coffee she absolutely loved it. For dessert we shared a chocolate chunk cookie which was out of this world delicious. The service and service people were all spot on great too. Very positive experience overall. Standouts for me are the green curry soup and the chicken panini. The price for the portions is quite reasonable and the service is always so friendly. My only complaint would be the disparate wait times. Sometimes I've been lucky and things come out pretty fast. Hubby's eyes are bigger than his tummy so he ordered two different bruschetta; tomato, mozzarella and pesto and a sundried tomato mozzarella and pesto. Delicious! Vegetarian daughter raved about the lentil soup and also had the vegetarian cigars which were nicely spicy. Hubby and younger daughter loved their sandwiches; turkey, Brie and apple and a turkey pesto panini. I had the white chicken chili which was mildly spicy and topped with white rice. I've tried basically all the hot and cold sandwiches and all the salads. Everything is delicious and great price point for the area. My one gripe: they are extremely inconsistent with the dressing when it comes to the salad. You either don't get any dressing or you get the wrong one. I generally always get the Mediterranean salad and it's supposed to come with the balsamic--but in all the times I've ordered, I've never received this one. Then I started asking for the lemon oregano dressing that I discovered w/ a different salad. Love it, so started requesting that via online order for pickup on ChowNow. It's hit or miss. Probably my favorite restaurant for lunch in Chelsea. Some amazing clean options for those who aren't looking for super fatty fried food. Some of my favorites are the Thai coconut curry soup which is TO DIE FOR, i also love the feta salad , and the cauliflower small plate. All so yummy! My choice for Best SSS (sandwich/salad/soup) joint by value and taste. Consistently delicious- my Go-To is the Chicken Panini / Tomato Soup half/half combo, but have explored their Hummus salad and Schnitzel plates too. Panini bread is well toasted for a nice crunch when you bite, and the hummus and breaded chicken are consistently textured and flavorful. Portions are really filling (the half sandwich could pass as a grownup) and the value ($10 for the combo) gives it that last star. Decor is casual but interesting, and occasionally they had random live music on weeknights (a nice surprise). Worth mentioning- it's not "fast" food. As in, you order at the counter, but it doesn't come quickly. So be prepared to do a bit of waiting until they bring your food over. The dine in quality of the food will be worth the wait. read more

Waited 20 min for a Bureka where I asked if I could get poached eggs. Even though they agreed, when it came the eggs were hard boiled. And my iced coffee was forgotten. The girl at the register who took my order did apologize ( said she didn't know) and was able to make the coffee right away, but apparently poached eggs would take a long time. So instead of waiting for them while my burekas would get cold, they agreed to make the Shakshuka ( which I would have ordered in the first place if I'd known I could not get poached eggs on the burekas.) They apparently have no preferential service if you've been waiting. Took 35 min later, a I'm still waiting... when I asked about it, they said it does take a long time (they said 15-20 min). Bad management and bad communication with customers. It seems that the staff in the front doesn't have communication with the kitchen. They need to manage expectations better. It looks like a fast food place but takes the time of a 5 course meal... but without the proper service. Had I known, I would have cut my losses early on. I had 5 min to eat since it took almost 1 hr to get my food and I had to make an appointment. The shakshuka was half decent ( except for one overlooked egg), but I'd rather have the service and pleasure of eating at a place like Miriam( in Brooklyn), where the food comes faster, and you can enjoy a Bloody Mary while you wait for the food . At this point, I need a bloody just to calm down from the angry meal I just wolfed down. They did ask if I wanted a refund, but it was too little too late...
