    Making the sandwiches
    Chun M.

All'Antico Vinaio means "to the ancient wine merchant" (Thanks, Google). I thought it would be closer to Italian for delicatessen like salumeria. This is in a ritzy part of town on 60th St between Madison Ave & Park Ave with Ferraris & Bentleys parked on the street, so you have to guess that the storefront rent must be astronomical. But oh, these gastronomical sandwiches are off the charts and can justify the price. Once you decipher the names of the sandwiches on the menu and see what's between the bread, you will want to try all of them. I settled on 2 finalists, but decided get both anyway. All sandwiches are made fresh with some of the best looking meats & ingredients I've ever seen! And what's better is that they bake all the focaccia for the sandwiches fresh and in-house. You see the bread oven right behind the register. I wonder if I could buy a slab of that bread? L'Inferno brought images of Danté Alighieri's version of the Underworld to mind, but was a spicy hot masterpiece of sandwich art. The combination of thinly sliced roasted porchetta, nduja, spicy grilled eggplant & arugula was fantastic! The fresh baked focaccia took it even further. But I did learn something new today besides Italian pronunciation, which was that nduja (silent n) is a spicy sausage from Calabrese that's spreadable like butter. I gotta get me some of that stuff! La Paradiso sounds like the third installment of Danté's Divine Comedy trilogy, but is a very mild, but tasty sandwich with mortadella, stracciatella & crushed pistachios in pistachio cream. The pistachio cream is a stroke of culinary genius and gives the sandwich an amazingly smooth texture & taste. The only part of the Divine Comedy missing from their menu is La Purgatorio and I do not want to find out what would go into that sandwich!

This is a busy place in midtown Manhattan. I stopped in for lunch and got in line. The line moved quickly, thoigh as they make each sandwich to order. Mine was porchetta with a mild tasting condiment. The bread was crispy and delicious, but I found the filling to be underseasoned lacking flavor. The ingredients were all high quality and fresh, though. I found a stool with a narrow shelf where I enjoyed my sandwich. Overall, a pleasant stop for a quick lunch.

I came here with honestly low expectations. Whenever something from abroad comes to the US, quality tends to not be the same. However, this place exceeded my expectations. I got the La Paradiso which comes with Mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio cream, pistachio. The bread was fantastic. It was light, yet crispy and thin but thick enough that held everything together. The pistachio cream, cheese and meat ratio was just perfect. I honestly regret not downing 3 of these.

My friend and I ordered the La Schiacciata Del Boss and Italian Hot. The best thing about the sandwiches was the bread. The rest of the sandwiches were pretty underwhelming. The Boss sandwich ratio of cheese to prosciutto was too much. Every bite was overpowered by cheese, and there was no sauce or flavor. The truffle cream was too light, and we couldn't taste it at all. The Italian Hot sandwich was really sweet due to the chili honey. There just wasn't much flavor outside of it. The turkey was pretty thin as well. Overall, we took our sandwiches home to add some vinegar and sauce there. The sandwiches didn't feel substantial for the price.

Having just come back from a trip to Italy, this sandwich shop/franchise from Italy really does a great job at satisfying a necessary craving. It is located in an area in midtown where it's safe to say it's one of the best quick lunch stops in town. I would say it's one of the pricier sandwiches I have had but for its quality, I would say it's definitely worth it. The bread is slightly toasted, just perfectly crisp. I'm most impressed by the quality of meats here. Fantastic prosciutto with wonderful taste. The sandwiches my friends all tried were quite impressive and did a really good job at recreating the taste in Italy. Each sandwich is quite filling and makes a worthwhile visit. The restaurant had quite a bit of a line when we visited on a Saturday afternoon. It took us around 30 mins from the back of the line to get our meals. The staff was lovely and even explained a few of the questions I had regarding the meats used /'d what they recommend. There is quite a bit of seating in the back and also benches by the bathroom for you to sit inside. But given the crowd at the time, it fills up fast. Good thing sandwiches are quick so the turn over is quite fast. Will definitely be back here in the near future!

After bookmarking their first U.S. location a few years ago, I finally made it to All'Antico Vinaio. It was even easier now that they have fourteen locations across the country, eight of them in NYC. I'm not entirely sure why it took me so long, and the quality of the food here made me especially annoyed at my decision to put it off. These sandwiches are spectacular! Each one is served on freshly baked Tuscan bread, with freshly sliced meats and an amazing array of cheeses and spreads. For example: La Summer which has Prosciutto toscano, mozzarella, tomato, basil, or La Favolosa which has Salame toscana, pecorino cream, artichoke cream, spicy eggplant. As well as a dozen or so standard sandwich's, there are special too. My current favorite of those is La Regina which has Prosciutto Crudo, Stracciatella, Pistachio Cream, Sundried tomatoes and Arugula. I'll eventually work my way through all of them and then start back at the beginning! There is also a very relaxed dining area in the back of the restaurant with long, communal tables and ten two-tops.

Very high quality product. The sandwiches are very large. Bring a friend and split one. Delicious flavors from Italy. The staff is friendly but the line gets long and can be somewhat unruly. Dine in option out back, lots of delivery business.

La Favolosa- Salame toscana, pecorino cream, artichoke cream, spicy eggplant
    Ben L.

I am late to the game in trying this place but even though this has been open for a few years now and this wasn't the original location I still thought it was delicious. However, paying $20 for a sandwich is A LOT. The sandwiches are on the large side so maybe eating just half with someone else is more justifiable but i finished the entire two halves by myself. The food: La Schiacciata Del Boss- Prosciutto toscano, pecorino toscano, truffle cream. This was bursting with flavors especially from the truffle cream, this was the more flavorful of the two sandwiches but I found this one to be a bit too rich. I thought it was good for the first few bites but then the more I ate it the more heavy it felt. La Favolosa- Salame toscana, pecorino cream, artichoke cream, spicy eggplant. This was the first one I tried and I thought it was good. For me, the biggest difference between the two were the spicy eggplant. The eggplant offers a nice eggplant flavor and nice eggplant texture. Both sandwiches are worth getting but both are kinda similar. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=cs8uKWu2bhN34A2STWHqVg

Wow my sandwich was so BIG! And delicious. I forced myself to eat half and was stuffed, tomorrow I'll finish it. I enjoyed viewing their artistry in the preparation. All fresh ingredients, they even cut the bread in front of you. There's seating inside and out. It was quick, the guys were all Italian ;). I'll be back. Great choices, I went with the Caprese, prices seem reasonable for NYC.

    La Schiacciata Di Manolo
    Rob M.

A lot of hype surrounded the opening of All'Antico. The sandwiches--at least, the one I ordered--unfortunately fall short of the lofty expectations. We ordered the La Schiacciata Di Manolo. And don't get me wrong, the bread (a focaccia-adjacent schiacciata) is phenomenal; it's every bit as soft, chewy and delicious as advertised. But what's on the inside counts, and the flatbread still can't compensate for the overly oozy inside.

La Regina sandwich; prosciutto, stracciatella, pistachio cream, sundried tomatoes, arugula.
    James S.

An excellent sandwich. I tried the new "La Regina," with prosciutto crudo, stracciatella, pistacho cream, sundried tomatoes, and arugula. It was delicious. I ate half on site and took the other half home. At 2:20 pm on a Friday the line was not that long, only a couple of people in front of me. Some tables in the back for seating, but I sat at the countertop in the front facing the street. The stools for that countertop (facing out, North) are the same height as the ones for the countertop on the East side of the restaurant; as the latter countertop is higher up than the former, this made for awkward eating. I felt like a giant hovering over the table.

Everyone waiting which was about 30 people were all visibly frustrated and angry. I missed my show because I couldn't even have predicted that ordering from a chain would take this long. They had 3 staff, 1 preparing not pickup orders and managing the register, one making orders with a stack of prepared orders whose names they weren't calling?!? Like how can you be this understaffed for a location like this. Getting someone to ask about your order was nearly impossible. Honestly, I feel bad for the staff working there since this is nyc and you deal with crazies, so one guy who waited 15 minutes getting heated I debated just finishing my sandwich at home because I didn't want to witness craziness Ok-actual sandwich was beyond a disappointment.
