We are big fans of this chain. We have tried different sandwiches and the Mediterraneo was the best. But we ordered one at this location and the person preparing used a squeezer bottle for the Calabrian chili paste/oil and soaked the sandwich. We could barely eat it. There was almost no burrata - no fennel shavings just arugula. We could not even taste the prosciutto. So the sandwich was horrible. Why would you use Calabrian chili and apply like ketchup ?? We gave them feedback and asked for more burrata and they said they would have to charge extra. Even tho we showed them how little there was in the sandwich . We will not be back to this or any other shop in this chain. Bad food. Bad service. Bad combination. read more

When we were in Rome, Italy last year, I noticed an All' Antico Vinaio spot, but there was always a long line of tourists, thus we avoided it. Little did we know that the famed sandwich shops are becoming ubiquitous here in New York city. There are already seven, maybe eight, and they're spreading across the country already in: Beverly Hills, CA, Las Vegas, NV, and Nashville, TN. I can understand the hype - The Tuscan bread, called schiacciata, is baked fresh and your sandwich is prepared according to a long list of Italian ingredients, all quite healthy and delicious (unlike greasy 7th Ave burgers which is another ubiquitous brand popping up all over the place). - - Anyway - - - My husband is a sandwich lover (especially Turkey sandwiches). They finally opened an All'Antico Vinaio at Grand Central and I was so excited to try it. As soon as I looked at the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted, La Paradiso! I mean, who doesn't love mortadella?!?! The stracciatella cheese was insanely creamy and paired perfectly with the pistachio cream. Match made in heaven! My only complaint is that the mortadella was sliced super thin. It looked like a lot, but once you bite in it, you realize there's not much there... For $18, I expected a bit more. That said, the sandwich is huge. I could only finish half and had to save the rest for later. Definitely heavy, super filling, and carby in the best way. I ordered the Lamb-tastic which had roasted lamb, arugula, marinated peppers, and pecorino cream, and it was every bit as good as it looked on the display board. Flavorful and filling. Yayyyyyy so so so happy to finally have an All'Antico Vinaio location by my office, and today is the grand opening! The sandwiches are incredible and big enough to share or split into two meals for yourself or with another person. Every sandwich comes on fresh baked schiacciata bread which is a Tuscan flatbread, similar to focaccia, but thinner and slightly chewier. My absolute favorite AV sandwich, and what I ordered today, is the La Paradiso which includes mortadella (I once heard this - outside of AV - referred to as grown up bologna which may be why I love it so much), stracciatella, pistachio cream, and pistachio. The combination of flavors is incredible. I noticed on the sandwich counter, several additional sandwiches not listed on the regular menu so will have to check those out. Not sure if they're seasonal or not. For a grand opening, which was not publicly announced from what I could tell, it was quick and efficient. I was in and out in less than 10 min even with the line just out the door. A perfect lunchtime escape from the office as sometimes other lunch spot lines can take significantly longer. In addition to sandwiches they also sell drinks including wine, beer, soda, Italian soda, tea, various coffee drinks, and still or sparkling water. I noticed they sell an affogato which I will have to try one of these days. I'd love if they sold chips but it's also not necessary. One sandwich is more than enough for a meal. Honestly if I split one sandwich into two meals then had a bag of chips that would really hit the spot. I had heard a lot of good things about this place online, but was disappointed by both the food quality and some aspects of the service. I ordered a La Paradiso sandwich, which contained cream and pistachio pesto. The bread was crunchy, but the ingredients were rather bland; the cream and pistachio pesto could barely be tasted against the bread and meat. Something peculiar happened with respect to service. I asked for a cup of water, which an employee gave, but I was told that their usual policy is to charge for water. I then overheard some employees say that the free water was just for legal compliance, and only meant for people who don't have money. Another said, "Isn't that water infected?" "Yeah" "So he'll get sick later?" "Yeah." (Seriously, you can't make this up.) In summary, the sandwich was okay but overpriced at $20 given its blandness. I can't speak for authenticity because I've never been to Italy, but these sandwiches are tasty! The midtown location had literally no wait and the staff was super kind and patient as I questioned the ingredients. Inside has a few stools and a table for seating, and is decorated with italian fare and wine bottles galore. There is a set menu of sandwiches to choose from, but feel free to create your own if you're feeling adventurous! I ordered the La Broadway and was really surprised how good it was. The focaccia is sturdy and crisp. The stracciatella and pistachio added the fat, while the sundried tomato and eggplant cut through that with tang. It would definitely be my go to sandwich for the summer. At $17 it was a bit pricey BUT, the sandwich was so large, I ended up taking half of it home for leftovers, so well worth the price IMO. I was really excited to see this place open up just outside of Grand Central just to have a good takeout train meal option, but I had the most disappointingly bland sandwich here for lunch yesterday. The La Summer tasted like bread, bland grocery store mozzarella, and pretty much nothing else. My husband's first reaction was "did they forgot an ingredient?" He was bewildered that a sandwich with these ingredients could taste so flavorless. I think the bread is great but either needs to be thinner or the fillings inside need to be more generous. That or they need to be more generous with the olive oil, salt, and and pepper. We've had similar sandwiches all over Italy and Croatia over the years, and they've all been much better. I'm not sure what was lost in translation when they moved this overseas. I got the La Paradiso since I love pistachios. The sandwich was about $20 but pretty good since it does feed 2 people or can have it as a second meal. Ingredients were super fresh tasting (Mortadella (meat was not too salty), stracciatella (no sour/diary after taste) , pistachio cream, pistachio). Employees were nice and very efficient. I went on the weekend around noon and only a few people were there, but I heard it does get busy on the weekends with the offices in the area. On Friday On October 3rd I had a doctor's appt in Union Square near lunch time. After my appt we decided to walk around the area and check things out. They originate from Florence, Italy and have sandwich shop in NYC (7 shops), LA (4 shops) Las Vegas (2 shops) Nashville (2 shops) Boston (1 shop) and are building more. We got to the front door and there were 11 people in line. I grabbed a menu, and we started to make our decision about what we were going to have. (it was tough) every sandwich sounded delicious. In the meantime, trays of warm Focaccia Bread kept coming out of the ovens and placed on cooling rack. You see this is what your sandwich will be made with. YUM, warm fresh focaccia bread what more could you ask for! My wife ordered the "La Paradiso" gal standing beside us said it was her favorite! It's made with Mortadella, Stracciatella & Pistachio Cream, my wife was extremely happy with it. I ordered the "L Inferno" it's made with Porchetta, Nduja, Spicey Eggplant, Spicey Zucchini and Arugula. TO DIE FOR!!!. The quality, quantity of ingredients could not be any fresher. My wife and I travel to Italy every year and we both said Italy sandwich shops have nothing over this place. We placed an order today through the restaurants website, which works with Uber eats. The order was placed before 11 AM for An 12:00 pm to 12:15 pm pick up. When we arrived at the restaurant for the pick up, they told us they didn't have the order at all; they said they never received it. We know we placed the order because we were able to track it. The problem we have is with the person at the cash register who refused to look at the bags near her to see if it matched our order which we had a print out of. Later, we received the receipts from Uber eats and I filed a complaint about the order. We are a bank and shall we use our bank credit cards. I have contacted that apartment to dispute the charges since we never received the food. It is completely frustrating to know you've placed an order and to have someone at a restaurant tell you they never received it. She even asked us if it would be at another location, but that would be impossible since I used the website that was for that exact location. We've ordered before from this place, but it will be a long time before we make a decision to do that again. Horrible customer service. read more
