Back at our hotel we opened the bag only to discover there were neither utensils nor napkins. The person with fried chicken stated that everything was a bit bland. I'm only giving this place 2 stars for the friendly waitress who took my order. The food was not good. I ordered the Pho soup and Coconut Rice with Tofu. Both items were a terrible attempt of asian inspired food. They completely forgot to add the rice noodles, but even then I wouldn't have eaten it. I had to throw the food away. I strongly recommend them removing those items off their menu and sticking to what they're good at. Making things spicy won't mask the tasteless food you're serving. After an afternoon of snowmobiling, we came in for lunch. The upper room was perfect for two families with kids. The kids played pool while waiting for our food. We decided to eat small plates and share them. The highlight of our visit was the fish tacos. Everyone especially enjoyed the salad in the middle of the tacos, the Chile lime vinaigrette was different with a little kick. My son got the pad Thai noodle bowl. He couldn't stop eating it. I was hesitant about bringing my family into a place I thought was more of a bar. The inside feels like less of a bar and more of comfortable place for food and a beer. Lacking in food quality and customer service... our bartender/waitress waited until we had the menus for 5 mins before telling us that 3 entrees were unavailable, and she repeatedly walked away before we could ask follow up questions. My cocktail was watered down, and the bartender brought our main dish out while we were only half way done with the appetizer. Most of the house-made potato chips were soft and soggy with oil, and my girlfriend's rice dish was bland. Also, saw the bartenders/waiters take a shot in front of us. I highly recommend checking out Bitters and Bones in Saranac lake. We were in the area for a long weekend of hiking and stopped in for a post hike meal. Famished and thirsty, we were pleasantly surprised to find two seats at the bar. Small selection of craft and a few domestic drafts, tasty sounding cocktails and a diverse menu made us realize that we made the right choice. I had a local IPA and the pad thai and dumplings with kimchee as an app. Hubby had the beef and rice dish was spicy and perfectly matched with the coconut sticky rice. Both portions were good and really hit the spot. The bar has a bit of a hipster meets southwest vibe. So my wife and I walked in with hearty appetites and stood in the door for a couple of minutes and observed what was going on. The place was very busy it smelled good. Walked over to a female staff on the other side of the entrance opposite end of the bar. And asked her if we could be seated. She answer "if you can find a seat" kinda snotty! Laidback spot with a diverse menu and kind staff. We found the poutine with the herb gravy particularly delicious. The fish tacos have the option to be blackened or fried - my partner had fried, and they were very good - and I wish the poboy had the same option. I ordered a shrimp poboy not realizing it would be fried (my mistake, I didn't know what a poboy was) and would have requested it blackened or skillet cooked if given the opportunity. Great local spot that features an above average bar menu, some great local brews, and some whiskey. We went here this past week with my parents and the kids (all under 15), and we were greeted with warm smiles and open arms. A very friendly place. Between the 7 of us, we sampled a good portion of the menu, and it was all great. I had the California Burger which was out of this world, and the wings with the Hassimi (sp?) sauce ....our waitress warmed me about this sauce, but laughed when I told her I considered it a mild! Judge for yourself. They have a great menu that pairs great beer with a whiskey at a ridiculously low price. And no coffee. The wings were tender and saucy, with ample meat, but little crisp. I ordered the rice bowl with smoked tofu substituted. Tofu was heavily seasoned, but fine and the smokiness was nice. The coconut rice didn't taste like coconut, was too small a portion and wasn't fully cooked, but still edible. My wife's fries were all limp. So food was maybe having a bit of an off night? I will say that the perch was fantastic and flavorful. Overall, the environment was fun. It was trivia night and I can tell that there is a lot of local love for this spot, so I don't want to be "that" tourist, but adding coffee to the menu is a solid idea. This place is awesome! Amazing food and service! We are vegetarian and there are so many vegetarian options it was hard to choose what to order. We got the crispy tofu, dumplings, pad Thai, and had the tacos with the meat substituted with beans and avocado. Everything tasted fresh and was made so well. Do not judge this book by its cover! We were about to walk away despite the excellent Yelp reviews but I'm so glad we didn't. The wait staff was awesome, encouraging my husband to try a few beers before he find the right one. The mixed drinks were amazing, I'm going to have to figure out how to copy the New York Sour. The Brussel Sprouts we the best I've had, EVER! Flatbed was excellent, the gravy on the poutine was phenomenal. The only dish that could have been ever so slightly better was the tofu and kimchee. I have never experienced a friendlier welcome upon entering an establishment. We were greeted by John with an enthusiastic welcome that the other patrons all looked our way. Lol. John ended up being our waiter and he was an absolute delight! So energetic, charismatic and personable. He mentioned the specials and we were the first guests to order two turf specials; seared grouper with garlic butter sauce, steamed spinach and seasoned potatoes. I must say, that had to be THE BEST GROUPER I have ever feasted on in my entire life!!! Without exaggeration! My mother ordered the Buffalo chicken flatbread with ranch sauce and she thoroughly enjoyed every bite of her meal also. The grouper was nicely seared and the sauce was finger licking good and most definitely enhanced the smack your mouth flavorful taste of the entire entree. I also had a ginger hot totty which warmed me on its way down to my stomach. This is a nice quaint place with such friendly staff and again, the food we ate was a 10.0! Being from the area I was excited to finally give this place a try. Unfortunately my husband, friends and I were all very disappointed. I almost gave it a 2, but the wings were good. My friend got burger and it was like sawdust, but the fries were good. Her husband got a gluten free flatbread, and unfortunately the flatbread was not cooked long enough so it was very soggy. My husband wanted a brisket sandwich, but the meat was not done yet so instead he got a Reuben flatbread, which wasn't great. I had a "Thai" dish... the noodles were incredibly over cooked and it was not spicy. None of the dishes were salted properly and all were bland. After a serious attempt of trying to enjoy this place multiple times because it is so highly rated, I just can't do it. 1. The price doesn't make sense, you sit on homemade pallet chairs and pallet tables uncomfortably. 2. The music you play on the jukebox that you pay $1 per song on is constantly and rudely judged by the patrons and skipped by the young employees. 3. Make the drive from the packed eateries in LP for some amazing, fresh and delicious food. So glad we saw this place written up in the ADK magazine. We had the brussel sprouts app as well as the cheese board to start....both fantastic. The flavor of the brussel sprouts was perfect. My husband had the pad thai and I went with the goat cheese and beet salad for dinner...both awesome. There were at least eight more items on the menu that we want to try, so we may go back tomorrow. The beer selection was small but crafty, and the cocktail list was intriguing. Not sure if they have dessert...our waitress didnt mention it...but she was otherwise super friendly and attentive.
