If you want to be in a quiet, meditative atmosphere this is not the place for you. Lots of folks here and all seemed happy and talking boisterously. We had the fish tacos. They were not extraordinary but quite enjoyable. We'd come back to try some of the other items on the menu like the salmon fillet, tamarind pad thai or the chipotle grain bowl. The food here is above and beyond. Really impressive, very creative. I would give the food 10 stars out of five, its that good. The only small glitch is that some of the waitstaff don't quite seem to have a firm grasp about how to do their job. The bartender was amazing but some of the the other people working there seemed a little confused or something. We saw a family come in, get served water and then were forgotten. After a little while they just walked out. It was very crowded so it just may have been an off night. You may not want to go if you are super hungry, but the food is so good it makes up for any potential problems. read more

Where the locals hang. (Hint: we are nice people) Recently remodeled with lots of beer, wine, and drinks choices. The menu has a good variety, even for vegans like me. Stopped in on a whim after a morning of hiking and exploring, looking for a drink and a relaxing lunch, which is exactly what I found. The bar is well stocked, even with obscure stuff, like my personal favorite; Saint George Absinthe. Sipped on my drink while I waited for a chicken flatbread. It was simple, but wonderful. The house made BBQ sauce was a great balance of smoky and sweet. Service was quick and friendly too. Wish I lived closer, I would definitely be back! read more

The food was decent. Bitter burger was cooked perfectly and tasty but the 17 dollar chicken Caesar salad was bland. Lunch for 2 with no alcohol was 48 bucks so check the menu before going in. It didn't seem that busy but it took about 90 minutes to get in and out. read more

My husband and I ordered food from here for the first time this year, after debating trying it previously. I opted for the brisket quesadilla, and he ordered the Korean beef and the brussel sprouts. Having had nothing to eat that evening, I was starving and very much looking forward to the quesadilla. The thought of delicious, tender brisket made me even hungrier. After getting the food and seeing it, I knew I was going to be disappointed before I even tried the food. The brisket (if that's what it was) was tinted gray and cut into small square chunks. I tasted one piece before scraping every other piece of the horrible meat off the quesadilla. I have never had brisket that was so tough and chewy. It was absolutely revolting. Between the color and the odd taste of the meat, I don't know how anyone could have eaten the quesadilla. It was obvious the meat was old, and the cook either didn't bother cooking the brisket correctly or didn't know how brisket should be cooked. My husband's meal was hardly any better. His Korean beef tasted as if it had gone bad, but they tried to cover the old meat with a super heavy sauce to cover the flavor of the tainted meat - it didn't work. The food went into the trash. I don't think we will give this place a second chance, it was just that bad. I wouldn't recommend this place whatsoever. read more

We ended up here because our usual stop (Downhill Grill) when passing through the area was unexpectedly closed. It was a blessing in disguise. What a diamond in the rough this place is. The exterior is shabby and unkept and almost scared us away. We peeked at the menu hanging up outside and I was intrigued. There are some unique items.. and I was a little surprised to see that they charge 15 bucks for a burger (I was craving one). Well, we decided to proceed and let me tell you that burger was worth every penny! The interior is a lot better than exterior and the friendly greeting from the server made us feel welcomed. Travel through and thirsty. Quickly found this place close to hotel. Awesome on the atmosphere food & brew. I don't eat meat and plenty of choices for me. My BF had brisket and he was soo pleased. Brew IPA great good pours. Staff Melody (it think) and the guy that severed us soo friendly made us feel comfortable and wanted to just stay. So since we had another nite in town we went right back. As we were parking the lot was full. The guy who had served us was walk out to leave gestured to us to take his spot. When we walked in we were greeted like locals they remembered us. Nice feeling. If you're visiting the area and looking for a nice place to eat at, this is the place to go to in town. The drinks are more expensive than anywhere else, but it's also the classiest establishment. When I say classy I mean it's clean and welcoming. The menu is a bit limited, but I've never had a bad meal there. I will say though that I ordered an eggplant dish and the description on the menu was quite different than what was brought to me. Example: "spinach fondue" was listed so I thought it would be a cheesy spinach side, when it was really just wilted spinach with seasoning. We went there for lunch on Friday with my mom. We sat in the bar area as the upper seating was pretty full. We got there at lunch rush so service was definately slow. But the beers were good & so was the food. I got the trio tacos and they were great. My mom got the quesadillas and it was good but the tortilla was burnt on the bottom. Given the current (read:sad) state of local pubs in Saranac Lake, I would proudly recommend this bar. It's a renovated typical dive bar that seems to be popular here. I find the place refreshing and welcoming. You won't find a friendlier or more attentive bartender than Olivia. She's the best around. Prices are very reasonable with daily specials. There is an upstairs room with a pool table and additional seating . ( I won my first pool match in 15 years)! My only complaint would be that a few bartenders play the music too loud and it can interfere with playing scrabble on my iPhone or just sitting and thinking about life in general. And, that is what sitting in a bar with a beer is about, yes? Unless, of course, you are with friends and are chatting. But, I sit and think and wait until Olivia is free to talk. We'll see what the future holds for this town, when the Hotel Saranac reopens, but right now, Bitters and Bones is where you want a seat. Live music sometimes. read more

On our last evening in ADK we stopped here because the food sounded amazing. It absolutely didn't disappoint. The staff were all extremely enthusiastic and helpful in describing the meals and took pains to demonstrate their commitment to making great food and supporting local sources. That wasn't our primary reason for visiting, but it was an added benefit that our dinner used awesome local food that we wouldn't have had the time to try during our vacation. The pulled pork sandwich was outrageous, and my partner had a seasonal salad special that was huge and filled with rich veggies. Perfect spot for a Sunday brunch with a small group. Decor and ambiance was perfect blend of rustic chic without trying too hard. Brunch menu was hearty and pleasing. We LOVED this place. We walked in right at opening time and were welcomed with open arms. Our bartender/server (Meghan) could not wait to tell us about the menu. She is very passionate about it. Most everything on the menu is locally sourced. We tried three different things so we could get a feel for all of it. And everything was very good. I even ate brussel sprouts. The blackberry balsamic reduction was so good. The atmosphere was very pleasing. Rustic but not redneck. Upstairs allows for a bar atmosphere with a pool table and darts.
