Very cute spot if your looking for something different in the area. We went for dinner and sat outside on the patio. We were able to listen to the live music playing over in the field. The waitress was a sweetheart & we could tell she was working so hard that night. It was hot & humid and I know it was hard to be running around tables with a mask on. I needed energy before some X-mas shopping. My dining companion and I lucked into a couple of $5.00 off each adult buffet brunches. Bittersweet is rustic with a lovely view. Two floors. You are made to feel comfortable from minute one. Our waitress Jessica was a breath of fresh air. Jessica was present when needed. She explained everything and left no stone unturned in terms of needs/wants. My dining companion was looking for a cannoli. Unfortunately, the last one was taken. In it's place Jessica brought over eclairs and carrot cake. That was not only nice but very thoughtful. The food was delicious also. The pulled pork was a winner, as were the Belgian waffles, the roast beef that was melt in your mouth tender. I'm not sure where the sausage links came from but they were sweet, and flavorful. The bloody mary was thick, spicy and had the right amount of flavor. I'm glad I had the opportunity to do brunch here. I had previously done dinner a few years ago. I was here on a Thursday evening in the summer. My husband and I stayed one night in Westport as a mini getaway to visit the vineyards. Some locals told us about this place. We arrived somewhat late after deciding that another place didn't suit our mood, and fortunately, this place was open (9pm?). The upstairs was hosting a wedding, so we sat in the tavern. There is a man who often sings and plays live music, according to the local who recommended this place. He was there this night, which was a nice treat. We sat at the bar, and service was good. Our food was okay. I thought the sauce in the lobster lettuce wraps was too sweet and slightly artificial; when I order something like a lettuce wrap, I expect it to be a healthy option. My husband loved his clam chowder, but it was a very strong flavor! (Rosemary?) The winner for me was the dessert. Get the dessert! read more

I just had my wedding here and it was spectacular! Work with Brenden, he is outstanding. The entire day was flawless, staff was great, venue was beautiful, the landscape outside was excellent for pics and the food was the best wedding food I've ever had. I highly recommend this place! I was searching for a place to have my wedding ceremony and reception, this one definitely fit the bill! A few of my family had raved about it, so my mom decided to have us go there for this past New Year's Eve. The attire can either be casual or dressy, I think as long as your casual outfit isn't ripped/gross you're fine. I wore a fancy but short black dress, my fiance wanted to be comfy so he wore some nice khakis and a button down shirt. The waitress was great! My fiance and I are not exactly wine experts. We know we usually like Moscato, and Riseling...but we're also somewhat picky. She let us try two different wines, and discovered a wine we absolutely love! Coastal Ridge Riseling! That definitely had to be the wine at our wedding. The food was delicious! I had the bacon-wrapped filet minion (cooked perfectly!), while my fiance had the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and an onion (his 3 favs, 1 plate! Definitely a win for him!!). Though it was busy that day, the waitress was very attentive without being annoying, you know? She was always around, making sure drinks were filled, making sure we needed everything. Though, she wasn't pestering us. The breads were also delicious! They give you a little assortment of bread, including corn bread--yummy! You get butter drizzled with honey, and red pepper jam. I guess you either love or hate the red pepper jam--my fiance and I hated it, but several other family members on New Years Eve loved it. My fiance absolutely loves baked goods, so he creatively kept trying to steal all the corn bread, made for some great entertainment! I guess my family was divided at New Year's Eve about the mashed potatoes. My fiance and I loved them! We love thick mashed potatoes that aren't over-powered, but apparently some of my family didn't care for them, and preferred creamy mashed potatoes drowned in garlic. They offered to make both types for the wedding at no cost, so that opinions wouldn't be so divided. They thought of things that I definitely didn't! The atmosphere was beautiful. I loved the exposed wood beams. It has a country-farm feel to it with some of the decor. We were sold at New Year's, and booked it for our wedding. The staff was very thorough. They made sure they double-checked that it was ok to seat us upstairs (in case we had any family who had difficulty with this), they even made sure we liked the chairs in the seating arrangement! My mother liked a particular set of black chairs, unfortunately the arrangement would've been 2 short, so they pulled out two beautiful and comfy purple club chairs for myself and the groom! The grounds are also beautiful, and even have a little Gazebo. They let us walk around the entire restaurant so we could pick exactly which table, and which floor (3 floors) we wanted to sit at. Their attention to detail was perfect! It was also easy to park, even on New Year's! My mom invited about 12 people to New Year's and we arrived in probably 4-5 cars, and everyone parked very easily. We decided that depending on the weather (it's a March day in New England!) we would either have the ceremony outside by the Gazebo or in the Great Room. I would like to say, that if you are having a massive event (I don't know exactly how many people they could fit) the space may not work for you. My sister had a wedding with around 400 people--they definitely could not accommodate that. It will be perfect for mine however, (it's around 80 people) They were also very flexible about the 20 million things we ended up changing (A few sick family members couldn't make it, then we changed the menu around, etc). This is a review for bittersweet as a wedding venue, I have not been downstairs in the tavern. The wedding was outside down in the field and it turned out to be a bit unexpectedly chilly for the first Friday in October. Only negative I have to say is that myself and several other family members had some issues with our shoes and the grass, because the area that they set up the ceremony in was a bit of a haul from the parking area. Perhaps a walkway of some sort could be put down for those who aren't warned of the outdoor location ahead of time. The inside is beautiful! Very rustic, lots of wood, lovely wicker and lighted accents throughout. Our wedding party had tables set up both downstairs and in the loft above and both bars were up and running throughout the night. Tip: the upstairs bar does stock hard alcohol! The appetizers I can't comment on, the couple selected all items that had shellfish so I was unable to partake. For wedding food, theirs was pretty close to some of the best I have had. I had baked scrod, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Thank the skies above I was not fed frozen veggies at a wedding for once! The broccoli was fresh. The scrod was with a simple ritz and lemon coating, but was a large portion. The mashed potatoes had the red skins dispersed throughout and were the right consistency with a few small lumps throughout. I have been to the Bittersweet Farm Restaurant on many occasions, for birthdays, a bridal shower and socially with friends. The food is always wonderful and the service is great. I attended yesterday for a bridal shower, my first there and they did a fantastic with the food and service. The prime rib was delicious and all the other entrees looked incredible such as the stuffed filet of sole and the wild mushroom ravioli. The private room in the loaf was where the bridal shower took place and it was very quaint and her friends decorated everything so beautiful for my dear friends shower. We felt like we had the whole place to yourselves, which is nice. The down stairs where the bar is or Tavern is a nice cozy place to meet up for business meetings, hang out with friends and enjoy the ambience and music and awesome appetizers. I highly recommend Bittersweet Farm Restaurant to anyone who would love an historical, rustic and homey feel place to have cocktails, food, fun and casual to fine dining. Hello, this was first time here, "tavern", or pub as I would call it was available only, the upstairs was not??!! Very small, very tight down there (compared to upstairs, I would imagine). And yet, prices don't reflect that! our experience here, for my wifes birthday was unfavorable...so I'll be brief. Keep in mind, as I give details, that, for the price of the meals, I expect to be blown away in all aspects of our plates...($25.00~~~40.00). My wife got sirloin tenderloin with lobster over risotto cakes and asparagus 36.00, my mistake in ordering was peppercorn encrusted scallops with garlic risotto and asparagus 28.00....let me start with, the food was not hot...at all, pet peav of mine. I don't know what I was thinking..."peppercorn"(see pic)!! One bite...mouth on fire, eyes watering...etc. Spent the rest of meal scraping off the peppercorns!!! I could go on....the strong fish-on-it's-way-out smell from the bacon wrapped scallops app, as soon as placed on table!!!! But...I won't...suffice to say, at these prices, won't be back. Checked out Bittersweet for the first time last week. The atmosphere can be best described as an incredible New England barn perfect for Sunday Brunch, but I don't know if it's my top choice for dinner. They've done a great job renovating it, but if the restaurant isn't at least half full, it can seem barren. I thought the service was excellent whereas the food varied from mediocre to very good. - The bruschetta was solid and I recommend it since they've put some thought into this commonplace restaurant staple you see almost everywhere --- Tournedos Oscar (two petite pan-seared filets, topped with crabmeat, asparagus, and béarnaise sauce; served over homemade potato pancakes) was bland- I think I've had meat with more flavor at Outback --- The Pork Chop Shop (two 8 ounce centre cut French pork chops, accompanied by fresh apple chutney and chef's choice of potato) was also very bland. - The dessert was exceptional and i would come back here just to grab an after dinner drink and dessert - their specialty appears to be the Bittersweet Kiss - think chocolate + ganache + awesome Even though this wasn't a great meal, I might be back and encourage others to try it. read more

Disappointing - did not match our expectations for a country inn in this beautiful town. Though the menu is extensive, the preparation is marginally acceptable, and the overall experience doesn't justify the price of a meal. (Basic fare: one Chicken (small overcooked breast), one Baked Scrod, one small dinner salad, one dessert, one bottle of wine = $90) Service was slow but became annoyingly attentive after the meal was served. Had to look at obnoxious TV monitor stuck in corner of dining room with equally obnoxious 'E Network'. Better prepared, more flavorful food can be found down the road at Marguerites or down Horseneck Road at The Bayside. read more

My place of employ likes to take job candidates here, so I've gone to Bittersweet many, many times. The service is always excellent. The menu items can be hit or miss. I've had the salmon mentioned by Lacey, and enjoyed it. I've had several different steaks as well; they, like the vegetables, often require extra seasoning. I've also been here for the brunch buffet, which was a nice selection but a little crazy due to the amount of diners. The best things about Bittersweet are the service, the renovated barn interior, and their corn bread. You'll get it in a bread basket in the beginning with honey butter and red pepper jam. Skip the other breads -- go straight for the corn bread. It just melts in your mouth, yum! read more

Months after book marking this place, we finally made the 40 minute drive from our house in RI and visited Bittersweet Farm. Upon arriving, we headed right down to the lounge area. Nice and cozy barn cellar atmosphere. I know that may not sound appealing to some, but it was really warm and inviting. It is always a good sign when places are busy and this was the case here. We went on a Saturday night around 7 PM and it was packed. There was a long wait for a table but we were fortunate enough to find seats in the bar. Good selection of beers on tap and friendly service from the bartenders. My only disappointment was that there was a somewhat limited number of reduced price pub food items. I think I read in other reviews that this is a somewhat recent change. Regardless, I had a burger and it was very good and exactly what I was craving. Live acoustic music that night and the musician was great. I think there is live music here Thur-Sat in the lounge area. As 9 PM rolled around, the dinner crowd thinned out and most people seemed to be enjoying cocktails and the live music. Prior to leaving, we walked upstairs to the main restaurant and it seemed to be very nice as well - just a bit stuffier atmosphere. For those looking to do a wedding here, this venue seems nice as the grounds looked attractive as well. Will return. read more

I've only been down to the Tavern area... but I usually go a couple/few times a month! Great atmosphere and the crowd is usually great. I sometimes go with my parents just for a glass of wine, or for an appetizer and beer with a friend. Haven't done too much dining except off the Tavern Menu... but the Baked Brie en croute is great! (then again... where is it not awesome?) The crowd get's a little younger as the night progresses... but it's a great spot for a night with your significant other (without the kids) or with a few other couples! The waitstaff is definately not the fastest... which is why I'm giving it only 4 stars! Get the local brew or wine for a real taste of Westport!!! read more

Went in on a Tuesday night but the tavern was busy. Ordered the oysters , chicken caprese and a Reuben sandwich. The oysters arrived in a timely manner but waited a long time to get the sandwiches. It was so long that the waitress brought us the bill before the sandwiches! Then the waitress disclosed she never put the order in for the sandwiches, she got too busy. Took an hour to get the sandwiches and won't be going back. Poor service on her part and nothing taken off the bill due to her lack of handling. Very disappointing. read more

Not a great place to have a quiet or romantic dinner! Food I would say is mediocre. They need to provide some vegan options. We went to the Tavern in the lower level of the restaurant. We sat at the bar and had dinner. The service, atmosphere, food and drinks were great. I had the New Bedford Scallops and my wife had the cedar plank salmon. Both were delicious! The place was very busy and the food came out right on time. We came here for brunch to celebrate my mother's birthday. We had a reservation for 10 people in the downstairs area by the fireplace, which was nice (though smelled a bit musty) and a lot quieter than the upstairs area where the buffet was stationed. However, we never really had someone waiting on our table other than a bartender who was competent but stretched too thin. We had to ask for everything: a drink, coffee, cream, spoons (!), and were never offered refills of coffee---we had to ask for all of these things. Also, the buffet itself took a while to get started even though they had a full house when they opened at 10:30. We were told we could go upstairs to start, so we went up and then stood there in the foyer while the staff seemed confused as to what we to tell us. It was so strange, as if they were surprised to have so many people there (though, since all the big groups were reservations, there shouldn't have been any surprises.) I wouldn't recommend diners sit downstairs for the brunch---you do feel like you've been "tucked away and forgotten" down there. The buffet itself was okay---a bit bland with some highlights like the many sweet breads which were great and the salmon which was good. I also heard the chowder was delicious. But certain things didn't appear to be replenished--the smoked salmon platter looked like a bomb hit it after an hour and the desserts were completely picked over by the time we were ready for dessert. Also, though the website touted their "chocolate fountain"---and we were told about it again at the time of the reservation---there was no chocolate fountain anywhere to be found which was a disappointment to the kids. The made-to-order omelet was good, but took a while to arrive at our table, so don't expect to eat it with the rest of your meal. I doubt we'd drive back for brunch again. read more

We are from PA so our friend took us to "The Tavern" (basement restaurant at Bittersweet Farm) for some fresh seafood. We ordered gluttonous amounts of food and EVERYTHING they brought out was delicious - calamari, stuffies, bacon-wrapped scallops, clam chowder, stuffed lobster, littlenecks and cod, etc. We also loved the garlic mashed potatoes. This is one of my favorite places around such amazing food and great people went there tonight with my fiancé got the scallops wrapped with bacon for an appetizer I usually always get the prime rib they have really good prime rib here it is very tender some of the most tender prime rib I have ever had my fiancé got the short ribs with the vegetables very good dish they have a little price to this restaurant but it is for a reason this restaurant is QUALITY and some of the best around I highly recommend you stop in you will love it!! read more

My family and I went to Bittersweet Farm to celebrate my birthday. Firstly, the ambiance and decor are very unique! We loved the downstairs seated area. For our meals, we ordered a dozen oysters--and they were the perfect starter. Our drinks were fun and delicious, too! We were pleasantly surprised with the flavors and exotic touches with the coconut rice and spicy pasta. Everyone loved their dish! The desserts were the perfect end to a great meal. We took a chance on Bittersweet farm at just before 7 on a Sat. night without a reservation. Its a big place so we thought our chances good. We walked in and were asked if we had a reservation. We said no and they told us it would be about 10 minutes. Fine. Took 5. Great. We are seated (upstairs) at almost exactly 7 and the busboy comes over, fills our glasses and banters amiable and goes. We can see 3 free tables from where we are seated so the restaurant is busy but not over busy. By 7:10 we have not seen a waitress although we have decided what to order. Helen is in need of food because of her blood sugar and 10 minutes is too long to wait for a waitress to at least stop by so as the hostess comes through I ask if a waitress is assigned to the table. She seems shocked we have not seen someone and goes off to find someone. At 7:15 a waitress comes over and apologizes, says the first drink order will be on the house. We place our full order, explain Helen's situation and ask them to expedite things (at least the appetizers should be quick as Helen is having raw oysters). The drinks and some bread and corn muffins (very good) come over right away. We didn't see the appetizers until 7:40 at which point Helen was in distress. She had to just gobble the oysters rather than enjoy them and I also giver her one of my Portuguese spring rolls which were OK. Perhaps they wanted to bring the appetizers together but given we had told them Helen needed the food that was unnecessary. 25 minutes is a long time from order to appetizer when the place is not swamped anyway. The salads came not too long after that which helped a bit. They also brought a second glass of wine I ordered fairly quickly. But the meals did not arrive until 8:30 (by this time the place is more than half empty). Our waitress apologizes again. My stuffed sole is decent. The garlic mashed were the best thing on the plate though. Helen's Bass special was seriously overcooked and served on a small pile of cooked spinach on a huge pile of unseasoned white rice. No veggies or anything else. It was awful and she would have sent it back if she wasn't desperate for food. The waitress came by and apologized again and told us we were being offered a complimentary desert as an apology for the service. Well, we just wanted to get out of there by then as it was just a disaster rather than a pleasant dining experience. When the waitress brought the bill the first round of drinks was on the bill and I had to remind them they had offered them for free (I can see how they might have forgotten after 2 HOURS!). Nor had they done anything else as compensation after we turned dow the desert (comping the extra drink would have been about the same as a desert). As the food was middling to terrible and the service abysmal (not worth the $84 plus tip) this is not a place we'll be returning too. read more

We received soooo many compliments throughout the night...about the beauty of the location (ceremony and reception) and the FOOD! Oh my goodness so many great compliments about the food (we served prime rib and stuffed sole)! It was delicious! We really loved the attention we received from one of the servers, Tom, for the night too! He was great at "taking care" of the immediate family after the ceremony, and being sure our sweet heart table was happy through the end of his shift. So nice! Came here for the first time last night with the boy and sat at the bar. Bartenders were super nice and provided insight on the menu, which was hard to choose from! The drinks were delicious and strong! So many great options on the menu! Started with the ocean platter, which was so fresh! We cleared that platter without a problem! The boy ordered the huntsman sandwich and chose a baked potato as his side (weird combo, that's my boy) and I ordered the Clam Zuppa entrée. We did some serious damage to our plates! From presentation to flavor, our meals were soooo incredibly tasty! Great service all night. They had live music, which was the icing on the cake to our night. We have been coming here for years on the holidays, and I'm very disappointed this year for thanksgiving. They put us right next to the door, and it was below freezing out. The door was left open and we were told there was not enough staff to ensure that it was kept closed. This would not have been a problem except my grandfather had just had pneumonia. There was another table that remained empty for over an hour once we got there where we could have sat. The food was very mediocre -- the cranberry sauce was undercooked as were the green beans. read more
