[792] I wanted to check this place out due to all the positive reviews. When I visited this restaurant I saw it was packed. The hostess was very nice and friendly. We waited about 10 minutes. We were offered coffee while we waited. I watched a ton of yummy looking food walk past and I was undecided (see my pic of the menu). Decided on the "Bittersweet Breakfast" which was $7 and contained eggs, tasty home fries and a homemade biscuit. All the food was amazing and was brought to our table quickly. We all loved our meals. Ive been coming to Bittersweet Kitchen for about 8 months...Never ever been disappointed by the food or service. It saddens me to give a bad review today...went in for Sunday breakfast..my food was amazing...artichoke sun-dried tomato Omelet..my partner ordered a single pancake scrambled eggs and scrapple...after eating a few bites of the pancake...he just happened to flip a piece over and noticed something black at the bottom of the plate...it was a smashed fly that had been cooked into the pancake...then he looked in the small container of butter and again another dead fly or flying ant was smashed into the butter...needless to say we both loss our appetites...his food was taken off the bill. We've never experienced this ever going there...someone needs to do a better job on quality and pest control...we won't be going back any time in the near future... read more

Bittersweet is always a reliable spot for a solid brunch. It didn't seem like they were anticipating diners on a cold covid Tuesday morning, as I had to knock to get the staff's attention inside. They then promptly escorted us to a table outside underneath a heater that they flipped on for us. It must've been a powerful one -- I was very comfortable temperature-wise! I ordered the vegetarian spin on their breakfast chicken enchiladas. The cauliflower and black bean was a lovely substitute and it made for a perfectly filling and yummy breakfast! No complaints! They didn't try to rush us out or make us feel us feel uncomfortable for wanting to sit awhile and enjoy the ambience! I really appreciated that. Did not disappoint. This place is a small yet cozy. The food was delicious. We had two veganized brunch dishes and we were stuffed. I definitely recommend the huevos rancheros vegan style. It was a good breakfast and we really enjoyed the diversity of the menu. The only weird thing was the hostess. She would sit the younger couples outside or at the bar but save the nicer inside tables for more middle age couples. This became pretty noticeable when she was skipping out of order on the list. We heard about bittersweet kitchen from friends and finally came in December to have a holiday breakfast. It was nothing short of wonderful! They don't take reservations so we came and waited about a half hour. The space is small with tables close together. We got the spinach/feta omelette, bacon/mushroom omelette, challah French toast and huevos rancheros. Everything was hot, flavorful, and the French toast awesome -- crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We were all happy with our choices! I preferred the bacon mushroom to the other omelette. I don't think we'd bring the kids here (all under 6) though there were babies and kids there while we ate -- but for us, the space is small and it would be hard to navigate if you have a runner. We came here with some friends that we were visiting based on their recommendation. This place is everything that a breakfast spot should be and more! It seriously ranks among among the top five we've been to! Walking in, it's an unassuming very quaint little spot with seating for 30 or 40 people. An array of eclectic art, fun signage and slightly eccentric Decore immediately set the stage for what was an incredible culinary experience. The place was super busy on the Saturday morning when we came in, but we were seated with 15 minutes. Our waitress and the hostess were very pleasant and very gracious despite the busyness. They have daily specials as well as Staples on the menu. We got a nice combination of both for the four of us that were there. We started with some blueberry fritters. These things are awesome! It was like the south finally discovered that fruit exists and the deliciousness was born. They were the expected beautiful mix of crunchy, sweet, slightly salty and chewy. They were absolutely wonderful! For breakfast, we split for entrées. The southern pile was a fancy biscuits and gravy he and was quite nice. Sausage gravy, buttermilk biscuits, eggs and American cheese make papa happy. Next, we all shared a French toast Breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, tomato and cheese was totally boss! French toast really dresses up anything is what we found. The hue is rancheros were also excellent and the ricotta pancakes were phenomenal. The food was all presented very nicely and was very easy to split up for ways. There was nothing that all of us didn't really enjoy and the food combined with a lively and slightly eclectic atmosphere made for an excellent dining experience. If we lived here, this is the sort of place we would take all of our friends and the sort of place that we would go just about anytime we were feeling like breakfast out. Bittersweet Kitchen has a nice interior design with seating inside and a few tables outside. It is a smaller restaurant that can become busy. I have visited Bittersweet Kitchen for brunch and breakfast. I went there on a Friday for brunch and you order and pay before you sit down, which is nice since you don't have to worry about the check later on. On the weekends, they offer tableside service, so we were seated before we ordered. From the menu, I tried the Crème Brûlée Pancakes, the Challah Stuffed French Toast, the Southern Pileup, the House Made Turkey Burger, and Fried Mac and Cheese. The Crème Brûlée Pancakes tasted like crème brûlée. There is a caramelization on top of the first pancake. Underneath it, are two fluffy pancakes with some type of creme between them. It was good, but I felt like it needed some fruit or bacon on the side. The Challah Stuffed French Toast was very good, especially the bourbon-caramel sauce. I would say I would rather order the Challah Stuffed French Toast than the Crème Brûlée Pancakes. The Southern Pileup. Oh man. It was so good. The breakfast potatoes were well-seasoned and crispy. There was just enough sausage gravy to cover the biscuits and eggs. The eggs were cooked as eggs over easy, perfect to go along with the biscuit and sausage gravy. I didn't feel heavy after eating it. I would definitely order this again. The House Turkey Burger was good, but not my thing. I much prefer regular beef, but it was a nice change. The smoky tomato jam almost tasted like a pizza sauce. The Fried Mac and Cheese comes in two large fried balls with sriracha ketchup. It can be shared between two people. My friend and I got lunch here and it was very busy for 11:00 am on a Sunday. They told us we would wait about 20-30 minutes, but it was almost an hour. I was going back and forth between two of the specials and did not know which one to choose so I asked our waitress for her recommendation and she did not give me a clear choice so I went for the steak and eggs platter. I got the southern pile up which was eggs biscuits smothered with sausage gravy definitely a change up I didn't expect how good this would be but would definitely recommend to anyone. The service was so nice and were open for questions and very knowledgeable waitress. We set in the sidewalk tables out front so the area was nice weather to sit outside and enjoy. We ate outside since the inside was closed due to COVID. There were only two tables but luckily it wasn't busy (a lot of take out). I had the Huevos Rancheros and honestly I wouldn't buy them again, it wasn't good at all. I didn't like the rawness of the eggs and the sogginess of the tostadas. My husband had the French Toast BLT and that was really good. Our friend had the same thing but he said he should have asked to include egg and cheese. Everyone liked the potatoes. Our other friend had the tomato soup with grilled cheese which they really liked until she bit into the second half of her grilled cheese and found a piece of plastic. Wow and do I mean WOOOOOOW! We got the breakfast to go since we were in a hurry and when I tell you it was amazing I mean it was amazing. I'm a huge breakfast person meaning I loooooove breakfast! Came here around 2 on a Friday in the summer. They are only open until 3. There were only a few other tables present at the time. It's a rather small place so if you come when it's crowded, it will definitely fill up quickly and there will be a wait. The gentleman working the counter and tables was VERY nice, personable and helpful. The female was cranky and needs work on customer service. You order at the counter and they bring everything out to you as it's ready. The paint color is way too dark for such a small space, in my opinion. I think it needs a brighter color to open the place up and make it more inviting. They had a delicious fountain soda (Coca Cola products). I was even offered one to go when it was time for us to leave which I truly appreciated. I went with the gentleman's recommendation and got the cream cheese, banana stuffed French toast. It was very delicious. If I could make a change I would have a little bit less cream cheese and more bananas and bananas in between the bread instead of just on top. The sauce on it was also very delicious! My fiancé got a spinach and feta omelet which he enjoyed. We had some potatoes which were a tad over done but otherwise, good. It was definitely delicious and worth the trip. We purposely came at this time to avoid the crowds which I read about in other reviews. I actually find it difficult to review places like this. Places that are universally acknowledged as good. (I'd rather review the unsung hero or diamond in the rough). But I always get around to it. The food is always great and speedy but really the customer service here is what's better than most. Thier outside seating during the pandemic is nice and makes you think it's just a 'normal' summer day. Here's something I really like that is never talked about: they are open on Mondays. I just had brunch at Bittersweet Kitchen, and despite the fact that the wait was over a half hour, I would definitely go back. Let's start with the bad - The service. Well, maybe not the service...but how long we had to wait for our food. It was extreme. I mean, on top of the 35 minute wait to get a seat that wasn't outside, the food took FOREVER to come out of the kitchen. We even ordered some apps (mac and cheese balls + fried pickles) and those didn't come out until our food did. I'd say we were sitting at our table drinking coffee and water for about 40 minutes before our food came out. It was pretty ridiculous, and had us all hoping that all of this waiting would be worth it. WHICH IT WAS. Because, wow. Everything was good. First of all, the menu is huge! They have so many dishes that sound appetizing, it was hard to choose. Not to mention the specials that the girl was rattling off. I ended up settling on the Challah Stuffed French Toast. It came with tons of sweet cream cheese filling, along with bourbon caramel sauce and bananas. I wish there was a little less filling and a little more caramel, but hey, that's just my preference. It still tasted delicious. The fried pickles were good because they were sliced into quarters, and then fried. I prefer that method of making fried pickles over just frying up one giant pickle. What was lacking in that dish was a good dippin' sauce. What came out tasted very similar to tartar sauce, which I wasn't into so much. It wasn't a big deal since the fried pickles tasted good on their own anyway. The mac and cheese balls were surprisingly SWEET. My friend's husband was saying how he thought they added something sweet like sugar or honey to the fried stuffed portion of the balls. My husband got the huevos rancheros, and there wasn't one piece of food left on his plate. He loved it, and it came with chili, so it really was some next level brunch. Had brunch with my daughter here recently. It's a cute, cozy little place with unique (thank you very much!) items on the menu. It was so refreshing to see a menu that didn't offer the same stuff as most of the other restaurants in the area. That said, I went for the French Toast BLT that everyone has raved about in their reviews. It was good - don't get me wrong - but it just wasn't for me. Something about the lettuce and tomato just didn't work for me, although I've enjoyed salads with maple vinaigrette on them before so I don't know. Anyway, the french toast was great, the maple bacon was quite good - I just ended up deconstructing the sandwich a bit. The breakfast potatoes that came with the sandwich, on the other hand, were phenomenal! Nicely browned and crunchy, just how I like them. My daughter had their breakfast plate (the usual eggs, potatoes, bacon, and a nice biscuit) and had no complaints. We also tried the fried pickles, which were really very good. Some places really screw those up, so we were happy that these were done right. We are looking forward to going to Bittersweet again soon - can't wait to try the Huevos Rancheros (they looked fabulous!) and the Ham and Cheddar on Pineapple Stuffing Bread looks really intriguing.
