I just had brunch at Bittersweet Kitchen, and despite the fact that the wait was over a half hour, I would definitely go back. Let's start with the bad - The service. Well, maybe not the service...but how long we had to wait for our food. It was extreme. I mean, on top of the 35 minute wait to get a seat that wasn't outside, the food took FOREVER to come out of the kitchen. We even ordered some apps (mac and cheese balls + fried pickles) and those didn't come out until our food did. I'd say we were sitting at our table drinking coffee and water for about 40 minutes before our food came out. It was pretty ridiculous, and had us all hoping that all of this waiting would be worth it. WHICH IT WAS. Because, wow. Everything was good. First of all, the menu is huge! They have so many dishes that sound appetizing, it was hard to choose. Not to mention the specials that the girl was rattling off. I ended up settling on the Challah Stuffed French Toast. It came with tons of sweet cream cheese filling, along with bourbon caramel sauce and bananas. I wish there was a little less filling and a little more caramel, but hey, that's just my preference. It still tasted delicious. The fried pickles were good because they were sliced into quarters, and then fried. I prefer that method of making fried pickles over just frying up one giant pickle. What was lacking in that dish was a good dippin' sauce. What came out tasted very similar to tartar sauce, which I wasn't into so much. It wasn't a big deal since the fried pickles tasted good on their own anyway. The mac and cheese balls were surprisingly SWEET. My friend's husband was saying how he thought they added something sweet like sugar or honey to the fried stuffed portion of the balls. My husband got the huevos rancheros, and there wasn't one piece of food left on his plate. He loved it, and it came with chili, so it really was some next level brunch. I would certainly come back here again, especially because you can walk in and order coffee and various baked goods to-go. read more

Had brunch with my daughter here recently. It's a cute, cozy little place with unique (thank you very much!) items on the menu. It was so refreshing to see a menu that didn't offer the same stuff as most of the other restaurants in the area. That said, I went for the French Toast BLT that everyone has raved about in their reviews. It was good - don't get me wrong - but it just wasn't for me. Something about the lettuce and tomato just didn't work for me, although I've enjoyed salads with maple vinaigrette on them before so I don't know. Anyway, the french toast was great, the maple bacon was quite good - I just ended up deconstructing the sandwich a bit. The breakfast potatoes that came with the sandwich, on the other hand, were phenomenal! Nicely browned and crunchy, just how I like them. My daughter had their breakfast plate (the usual eggs, potatoes, bacon, and a nice biscuit) and had no complaints. We also tried the fried pickles, which were really very good. Some places really screw those up, so we were happy that these were done right. We are looking forward to going to Bittersweet again soon - can't wait to try the Huevos Rancheros (they looked fabulous!) and the Ham and Cheddar on Pineapple Stuffing Bread looks really intriguing. My favorite little cafe in Media! The fritters are AHmazing - a must-order. They rotate their flavors, so I've been able to try apple and mango. Both were great. One order is big enough for 2-3 to share. Oh, and they're hot so you might as well eat them all once you order them! I will have to try their other breakfast and lunch menu items, but their tuna melt is delicious. A hefty amount of tuna in the middle and grilled perfectly. The plate came with potatoes, making for an extremely satisfying and filling meal. I don't think you could go wrong with any of their plates. Service - I've only come during off-peak hours, I've never had a problem with wait times and whatnot. Carry-out is easy-peasy. When the dining area is full, the noise level gets pretty loud. Just like another reviewer mentioned, acoustics aren't great. Other than than that, I love all the little details about this place. This is the most uppity, pretentious place in the area. The staff is condescending and for no good reason! The coffee is cold, the food is at best mediocre and they don't even have the regular amenities that most brunch places have. ****Beware, you're gonna end up spending $40 for two people. Toast is $8!!!! Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. They made very clearly (in an incredibly condescending way) that there's no substitutions on the menu, I found this very surprising since you order and pick up your food at the counter. My complaint was the biscuit, crazy right?! Who has issues with a biscuit. Well, I had no idea there's such a thing as a "bad biscuit". Maybe it was a bad batch, not certain. I have been here twice. Both times were during lunch. It was not that crowded but there was a study flow of customer. When you walk in it is not apparent what to do or how to order but the person at the counter is really nice. The menu is limited but I was able to find food that interest me. I had pancakes. Creme brûlée. The were delicious. The coffee was self service. But all you can drink I suppose so I got up twice for more. The only complaint I have is that I was freezing both times I went. I know it's summer but the air conditioning was a bit over done. I'd definitely go back...with a sweater. read more

Had breakfast here with my husband recently. The food was good and the atmosphere is cute, but I found it a little overrated. The ordering here is different. You order and pay up at counter, but then they bring your food out to you. Not a big fan of having to decide my tip before getting the service, but oh well. I'd love to give this a 3 1/2 Stars ! The place is really cute but it's really tiny. There also isn't really any room to wait. We also weren't sure if we were supposed to sit or wait to be seated since there was no signing and no one came over to us right away. They had a smaller menu with a lot of specials. I ordered the creme brûlée pancakes and my dad ordered a special of biscuits and sausage gravy. The pancakes were really good. Thin but fluffy and very tasty. There was a decent amount of creme between the first two pancakes but less between the bottom two. Our waitress was nice but didn't check on us a lot however she greatly favored the table next to us continually checking on them and stopping to talk to them. The restaurant itself is really cute! I love the ceiling and the little details like the paintings, the mason jar glasses, etc. I wish the specials were closer to the front of the restaurant to see while you wait. Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast at BK a couple weeks ago. I ordered the omelette special which was fantastic...and it was presented so well on the plate (I like a neat/clean presentation). Great flavor (didn't need to add salt/pepper) and the portion was just right. I also ordered a side of scrapple which was cooked perfectly (crispy, yum!) I also took a slice of Jewish Apple Cake to go bc it's one of my favorite sweet treats EVER! And it did not disappoint. I had 1 slice to go that day. 2 days later I returned for 2 slices to go. And get this - earlier this week I called the restaurant to order an entire cake for pick up today. I'm serious, it's THAT tasty! The flavor is perfect; not too sweet and just the right amount of tart apples. BUT something else that most may not care about is the texture! I saw this menu and knew I had to try it. MY GOD! The apple pie french toast was amazing and the pumpkin fritters with the maple caramel sauce...fuhgetaboutit! The scrapple was sliced on the thinner side, which NEVER happens (and I LOVE it sliced thin and well done!)! It was cooked perfectly! I can seriously live off of those friggin fritters! Everything was SO good. I got the ham cheddar open faced sandwich and my other half got the sun-dried tomato omelette. We also got a blueberry scone to split. I loved the saltiness of the ham paired with the most amazing pineapple-stuffed "sandwich" bread (tastes more like a giant french toast to me). And the omelette was thin and perfectly rolled. I was looking foward to a delicious brunch. I dont like leaving bad reviews but my coffee cost me 3 dollars and it wasnt even hot! That just annoys me.If your gonna charge that much for coffee you better get it right and bring that quality element, disrespecfull.
