    Bixenburger

Came here for the burger, excited to have a decent restaurant in Germantown! Smashburger (Bixenburger) was great, huge patties with great char. Got the double but the single would have been enough. Loved the caramelized onions and beer cheese toppings. Fries also very good and so were the cheese curds. Easy to say it's the best burger in Germantown.

This small tavern is doing big things with their food. I got the smash burger and it was absolutely awesome! The cheese curds were a great accompaniment to the burger and the fried pickles were very tasty. I will say, check their Facebook page for hours as they are a small place with minimal staff and have had to close on occasion. I am absolutely coming back here!! I've never had a burger like this before. I'm not gonna lie, it knocked my socks off. Hats off to the chef. Hats off to the bartender/waitress, Chloe. She is a great employee for you guys. She was very helpful and informative on everything from beer to food selection. The curds and fries were hot and delicious. The burgers were outstanding from the bun, to the meat, to the sauces. They keep it simple, yet the technique of cooking the meat is outstanding. The burgers came out hot, juicy, and with a crispy lace. I can't wait to try other menu items in the future. Keep up the great work!

Quaint, friendly old town feel . Nice server, burgers were good. Home made chips were a nice change. Next time we will try the fish fry.

I was excited to see a new spot in Germantown and even more excited after our meal. Food was fantastic. Dads a big burger snob and he thought their burger was top 10 on his list. Cheese curds were great. Service was quick and they had a happy hour special which was nice. Place is extremely clean with plenty of space and arcade games. We will be back!

This is a newish place (2022) on the outskirts of Germantown, just North of Menomonee Falls and also borders Richfield. This place and the menu underwent a renovation last year, and they did a wonderful job! Also; according to a few residents of Hubertus that I ran into at another place in the area, this is the tavern to be at for a good bite to eat and a cold drink (I agree). The dinning and bar area is nice and spacious, and the outside deck is probably a go-to place to enjoy a nice afternoon and/or evening meal or during pre-game and post game time traditions. This Sunday was our first visit, and could very likely end up being a go-to on the weekends for lunch or an early dinner. On this visit, I had ordered the Flammkuchen and my wife ordered the Chicken Doner Kebab wrap. As you can tell from the picture, the chicken doner wrap was huge and seasoned awesomely; in both the chicken and doner wrap, nice touch. This also comes with in-house made tzatziki sauce, which was so darn good. With this dish, her side order was their homemade chips, which were tasty, also paired with their french onion dip, such a nice pairing. I had ordered their Flammkuchen as my lunch, which was their own take on this dish, and they did a great job on making this unique from the classic and just as delicious. Is Bixenberg Tavern a 5 Star review? Yes, it is!! I hope that if you read this, that you will also leave star filled review. We are looking forward to our next visit, and to update to mark Bixenberg Tavern as a 5 star place to check out. See you there!

Absolutely delicious. Ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with cheese curds and a double jalapeño burger with chips. Food was so good. Buns were soft and Branded with a B. Burger patties were homemade. Chips were delicious. Cheese curds were fantastic!! Clientele was really engaging and congenial. Staff was super accommodating. Chloe and Tim were super friendly and kind. A great addition to Germantown! Looking forward to returning!!! Thank you!!

Smash burgers are top notch! Especially with the jalepeños.(and bacon!)

Great pricing and the food taste, quality and pricing were all exceptional. We enjoyed it so much. We came back within the same week to try it again and bring my parents who were equally amazed. I got the Manhattan off their specialty menu and my husband got their autumn barrel Manhattan. After trying both--highly recommend the one off their specialty menu. It was definitely superior quality. It's served over a block of ice so if you want it up, you may want to mention that when ordering. It tasted more like a classic old fashioned than a Manhattan but I'm not complaining because I love classic bourbon old fashioned cocktails as well. For a starter we got their much raved about bang bang shrimp. It came on a bed of greens and was good! For my dinner I got their seasonal chicken and dumpling soup and a side salad. Both were solid. The salad was definitely more ample than I was expecting. My husband got some sort of salmon alfredo pasta dish that came with roasted asparagus mixed in. I had a bite and he ordered well--it was decadently buttery and delicious. The service was super kind throughout our stay. Our server checked in on us regularly without being overbearing. Get to it!

We decided at the last minute to go out for dinner on a Saturday night, which as you can imagine…read morecan be tricky. We tried a couple of other places, but they had very long waits, including Relish. We couldn't get in, but we saw a couple of people go next door to Von Rothenburg, so we decided to tag along, hoping that there might be something there. So glad that we did. Both Relish and Von Rothenburg are owned by the Angel's Share Hospitality Group. It's a German-style pub with very distinctive German-style architecture. When you walk in, there is a large bar. Most of the bar stools were filled. There is a dining room adjacent to the bar and another one upstairs. Most of the tables have plain wooden tops, a good fit for the pub atmosphere. The walls are stucco and trimmed in oak. The place has a relaxed feel to it. We took an open table, and in several minutes our bartender/server greeted us, gave us menus, and took our drink orders. We got a couple of small glasses. They had my favorite, Stiegl Grapefruit Radler. The food menu is not especially German and has a wide variety of items, ranging from burgers, pasta, seafood, and fish frys (referred to as Relish Cod/Perch Fry, which is a nod to the Relish restaurant next door). They had several specials, including a Herb-Crusted Rack of Lamb, and being a fan of lamb, I had to order that. We also got a Clubhouse Burger, ordered medium rare. It took a bit for the food, and our server kept us updated (and apologized) on the progress. To me, it didn't seem that long of a wait, but I appreciated the earnestness of our server, which was demonstrated the entire evening (thanks, Tanner). While I was waiting I had my side salad. It was good, with the surprise of some avocado. When it arrived, both meals were hot, well presented, and good portions. The lamb was served a perfect medium rare. The flavors from the herbs were outstanding. Lots of rosemary, and the au jus was rich and flavorful. The accompanying Sweet Potato Gratin was just okay. Not sure if the potatoes were cooked enough for my liking. The pile of potatoes had a Gruyère-like cheese that I didn't feel was a good complement. The burger was very good, in spite of being overcooked to medium well. The side of fries was hot and very tasty. Overall, a good meal and a place that we would likely return to. They have a huge patio in the rear, and I'm sure it's a lively beer garden during nice weather.

Came here for dinner and unfortunately left pretty underwhelmed overall…read more The restaurant itself was clean, and service initially started off fine. When we first arrived, the restaurant was not busy. Only a couple other tables occupied, so expectations were fairly high for a smooth experience. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. The food took quite a while to come out despite how slow it was. When it finally did, it was first delivered to the wrong table before eventually making its way to us. The food runner then randomly grabbed a ranch from our table and brought it to another table. He seemed potentially new, but overall the service felt very disorganized and clueless, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered the cheese curds to start, and they were disappointing. The breading was mushy and extremely greasy, and the cheese itself tasted low quality rather than the fresh curds you'd expect at a Wisconsin pub. We also ordered several wing flavors since they were on special: garlic parm, buffalo, bourbon BBQ, and lemon pepper. One issue right away was the lack of flavor variety overall on the menu. The wings themselves were inconsistent. Sizes varied dramatically, which clearly affected the cook quality. Some were fried so hard they were like chewing leather, while others had soggy, undercooked skin. Flavor wise the buffalo were almost completely flavorless. The lemon pepper was extremely mild. The garlic parm was probably the best of the group, though still just average. The bourbon BBQ was rough. The sauce tasted like an overly sweet, overly salty cheap jarred glaze rather than an actual house-made BBQ sauce. My wife ordered the Mary Mac burger without a bun and was told extra lettuce leaves could be substituted to make it a lettuce wrap. Instead, it came out with just shredded lettuce. The burger itself was overcooked and lacking flavor. The fries were decent enough, but nothing memorable. Overall, this felt like a place with potential that just missed the mark on both execution and consistency during our visit.

Signage outside indicated that they have fish fry on Wednesday night so that was a plus for me. He had a water street melt with chips and fried cheese sticks. He asked for his burger to be cooked medium. The menu indicated his burger had onion spread on it. His burger was not cooked medium but well done. The onion spread was a "sauce overload" and not a pleasant addition to the melt. The cheese sticks were wrapped in a won ton wrap and deep fried. They were served with a marinara. The cheese sticks could have used some type of seasoning to give them flavor. Very bland. I had the fish fry special of fried perch. Mild fishy flavor and definitely frozen. Thin crumb breading that had some type of seasoning. I choose fries, coleslaw, and rye toast. The fries and toast were the best parts. I wanted tartar sauce for my fish but it was so sweet that it wasn't good with the fish. Service was fine. She needed to leave before us and asked if we wanted to close our ticket. We didn't plan on staying as we're traveling so we closed it out. Location was easy to find. Bar area was clean.

Came here with my brother for breakfast. Food: I'm not very traditional when it comes to breakfast, so I like a menu that has a few interesting items. I found several great choices on this menu and decided on the Avocado Morning Benedict. I find that hollandaise sauce can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, so I asked for it on the side. It didn't take long for the food to arrive. Everything was hot, the portions were generous, and the food was nicely seasoned. The eggs were cooked over easy, with the yolks still runny. The avocado and spinach were fresh and served on a toasted English muffin that was nicely buttered. It was an excellent choice. The accompanying American fries got an upgrade with cheese and fried onions. Absolutely delicious! This will probably be my go-to breakfast when I return. Service: We got there right when they opened at 7 a.m. There were already a few other tables seated when we arrived. The service was super friendly and efficient. We quickly got our water, coffee and tea, along with the menus. We needed some time with the menu, along with some necessary small talk, and our server checked back a couple of times without ever making us feel rushed. It was a very relaxed meal. Atmosphere: With the log exterior and large front porch, my first thought was Cracker Barrel. The inside, however, feels a bit more upscale than CB. The interior is nicely furnished, with plenty of booths and tables. There are also tables outside on the porch if you'd rather sit outdoors. The overall design has a country feel and makes for a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Definitely a place I'd return to.
