Went there for lunch. Not busy at all. Stood at hostess stand for 5 minutes before someone would come over to seat us. Maybe 10 seated in bar area. Only 1 person at a booth in other area of restaurant. Ordered a burger that was extremely over priced. I cut the sandwich in half. They either need to get smaller buns or larger burgers. The burger was so small that when you take a bite of the burger it comes out of the bun so only left with bun, lettuce and tomato. Yeah, it was that bad. The quality of food was poor. Honestly, have had cheeseburgers at Culver's that puts this one to shame. It also took a long time to get our food- even though the restaurant was most empty. Overall not impressed. But first I'll start with the positive. Lots of people waiting for tables so a server came around with a pizza for a little nibble while people were waiting. Nice touch on that. When we ultimately got our table our server was very nice. I'll assume the slow pace of getting our food was not her fault. So, our main complaint was that we had a 7:00 reservation and didn't get our table until 7:40. No real apology, just a statement that they were busy. Food was marginal. Two burgers ordered medium both were delivered well done with room temperature fries. Nachos came on a huge platter but light on toppings. We won't go back. read more

What an awesome experience! I wrote a negative review a couple of months ago, but was positively surprised by the fantastic experience on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022. The staff was so welcoming right from the beginning! We were seated, and ended up with a fantastic waitress. She was very friendly, extremely attentive, and competent. Food was served promptly, even though it was fairly busy. Food was deliceous! Loaded nachos and large pizza. Waitress got EVERYTHING right, even though we had a number of special requests. Big endless picture menu. Slippery greasy floors. Super loud tacky pop music to get you to eat more and leave soon (the research bears it out). I'm not sure if anyone who lives in Bloomington actually eats here. I think it's like the cheesecake factories in cities that are there merely to attract out of towners. Typical chain food. Went there today (11/3/2019) with a couple friends to sit at the bar and catch the colts game. We must have waited an EASY 10 minutes, probably 15 before someone shows up to clear away the trash from the previous patrons. The was some girl there who was supposedly the bartender. Problem was, she was never there. She was always somewhere else. Service was the worst I've dealt with in many years if not ever. One of my friends had to flag her down every time as she'd occasionally pass by to get us some beers. We eventually ordered some food. My boneless wings were lukewarm and arrived with 3 soggy sticks of celery and it was like twelve bucks too. another friend ordered a buffalo burger and fries. He must have waited 40 minutes or so before it finally showed up. He tried a few fries before rejecting the meal as he said he could tell it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a good 10-15 minutes until it arrived. We settled up by halftime and got out of there. Expensive food plus terrible service is a lethal combination. If this is the kind of service that is going to become the norm, this place deserves to go under! I'd give it a 0 of five stars honestly. read more

We stopped at BJ's today because I'd heard good things and knew I could eat gluten free there. The fries were delicious and crispy and my bbq brisket burger was excellent. They have a wide variety of beers on tap and even offer gluten free chocolate chip pizookie that was amazing. Our server was friendly and very attentive. My friends and I came to Bjs to celebrate a happy occasion but unfortunately our experience with the restaurant wasn't happy at all!! Our server (I have his name) was extremely rude! He kept speaking to us as we were little kids! (E.g. he said: I'll go get water and all of you BE ready to order when I'm back!!!! What a shame I really want to like this place but the service just sucks! I ordered ribs with broccoli and mashed potatoes. The broccoli was cold the mashed potatoes were dry and barely warm. Ok, we had a mediocre meal with terrible service first time we were there. It was shortly after they opened, so we chalked it up to working the kinks out. Today was inexcusable. I had a small "orange beets and goat cheese with arugula" salad and "a tuna poke" appetizer. My wife had a "lettuce wrap with chicken, veggies etc." The arugula salad was ok, but the diced beets and goat cheese were minuscule. Same with the tuna on the poke. The dressing was bland to say the least and forgettable. My wife's was indefensible. If the chicken was radioactive, it would have been barely findable with a Geiger counter. When my wife called the waiter over and explained it to him, he offered to get her some chicken. It wasn't his fault, so don't construe this to blame the waiter. Bottom line: we took the chicken home and fed it to our dog. It was fine. Probably would have been better if they had put it in the lettuce wrap mix as described on the menu. We live about a mile away. May go back for strike three, or maybe not. Didn't expect to be the quality of The Uptown, but deeply disappointed nonetheless. read more

I work in Bloomington but live 25mins away. Did curbside last Saturday and ordered two orders of wings and two garden salads. When I got home I found that my salads literally were just lettuce. And, did not get any ranch dressing with the wings and celery. I called the restaurant and they said they would send me a gift card through e-mail by the end of the night. But to advertise a pan pizza as a deep dish pizza just feels like a bait and switch. It would be a lot different if it was an actual good pan pizza, but it wasn't. I'm a local restaurant fan and snobbishly avoid the chain restaurants (Chili's , Applebee's, etc) located in the College Mall area. My husband gets a Chili's craving a couple of times a year and we were on our way there when we passed BJ's. BJ's is a slightly hipper version of the usual mall chain restaurant. The restaurant is bright and open with lots of TVs. The main draw is beer- there were more than 50 on tap and there was a full bar. The menu is huge...I was happy to see that calories were listed for every entree because every menu item was a caloric splurge. Even the items labeled as "light" had more than 700 calories! The cuisine was nothing original or different from the usual mall chains and much probably arrived frozen and prepared offsite. We tried the dumplings (greasy and not flavorful), calamari (well prepared, but the marinara sauce was bland), the baby back ribs (Delicious! Tender with sweet and tangy sauce), and shrimp tacos (well seasoned but served with what I think was supposed to be guacamole but tasted like green mayonnaise). Service was friendly and attentive. Overall, food and beer were better than the usual mall restaurants. For a slightly more local experience, and a similar menu, try the Scotty's Brewhouse downtown...for a true brewery experience (and truly delicious food) Bloomington has lots of better options. read more

We always enjoy the food at BJ's. The SERVICE has become a problem. This evening started with an 8 minute wait at the host-less stand while employees walked by without either seating us or alerting someone to get to their post. This was followed by extended waits for our orders to be taken and for the meal to arrive for the two of us. All together it took just over an hour and a half from entering to heading home. There needs to be a cultural change at this BJ's with regards to paying attention and promptly, not leisurely, taking care of customers. read more

BJs Brewhouse We recently dined here during graduation weekend. We have been to 2 other locations in 2 different states. The food at this location was completely different than the other chains. I expect a level of quality control when dining at a chain restaurant. The service was outstanding, everyone was friendly and the establishment was clean. Our waitress did a great job of taking care of us. The mozzarella salad, the shrimp tacos, the fries, the boneless wings, and sliders were all different tasting not like BJs we have known to love, even the drinks were sad. The Cesar salad was good. The menus were sticky as well. Next time I'm in Bloomington, I will not be back. I will definitely try another location because we love the brand so well. Overall, the service was outstanding but the food needs help, I suggest corporate do a surprise pop up at this location to inspect the quality and presentation of the food. read more

Stopped in during a really slow time of the day. Order 2 different beers that were on the menu and they were sold out. We also oddly felt like the waiter was pressuring us into purchasing soda instead of beers. Anyway.. we got the beef tip sliders for an appetizer (sorry that I didn't think to take pictures). There was barely a squirt of bbq on them and they were plated in a very unappealing way. My entree was mediocre at best.. the burger didn't seem to have much flavor and there was (again) barely even a squirt of southwest ranch on the burger. The sweet potato fries were lukewarm and a bit soggy. We were disappointed because we have been to 2 other BJ's locations and have LOVED every minute of it. Went to BJ'S Brewhouse with some friends this weekend, great food and great service. Everyone at our table really enjoyed their dinner. Some of our top picks would be the Hickey Brisket and Bacon Burger or the Gourmet Five Meat Pizza. Tons of televisions to watch the sports game and a great atmosphere to sit down for a while. BJ's offered top notch service when we went. Special offers are very good too. Monday you get half off a large deep dish pizza. We've been going to BJs since they opened here, despite the sometimes terrible service there, and continued supporting them through the Covid pandemic. Until yesterday. I ordered the enlightened kale Brussels sprout salad, VEGAN please and my partner ordered his favorite sandwich. Got the order and brought it home, and the salad was covered with cheese. Maybe a vegan substitute so I called and asked. No she said, made it just like we always do. I put it in the fridge and today ordered the same salad, no cheese please. Picked it up and should have taken a side by side for the new salad just picked up was half the size of the other with little or no kale, one pecan, and all the grapes had stems still on them. They even threw in a long grapeless stem for a good laugh I guess. The Romain was the ends with the rust on. I could go on and on but this was a clear message to me, BJs no longer wants my business. Yet another picture-menu, "apostrophe-name" chain on the East side. Ugh. Go to any of the other picture-menu chains and you'll get basically the same warmed over stuff. It's a "Greek Menu," in that they have just about anything anyone could want. That's really about all you need to know about the quality of the food in a restaurant. We've been there three times merely because it's close, and it was all pretty bad. I give it two stars merely because it's nicely designed, other than the kitchy garage doors on the inside, trying to make it look like it's been repurposed. We checked in at 6:30 and wasn't seated until 8. We understand that restaurants are busy on Friday nights but this was beyond anything I've ever experienced. We ordered right away and the waitress was very nice and brought our drinks and appetizers right away. However, we asked for silverware, napkins and small plates to find out that they didn't have any clean and available to use. By the time we received napkins we had already used baby wipes from the diaper bag. Then we had another long wait for our food. We finally received our food at 9:30 and by then my husband had already let the waitress know how unhappy we were. The waitress told us that her manager said that our food was on the house but the manager never came out to apologize for the awful experience. As we were leaving the hostess looked at us and said please don't come back. This is the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant and we'll never return. read more
