I arrived at BJ's last Friday looking to share some drinks and appetizers with some old friends. The atmosphere was lively, and We were not able to find a spot in the open-seating area. So, we decided to sit at the bar-top itself. This is a decision that paid off very well! Luis and Marcos took very good care of us. They are funny, personable, and knowledgeable about the beers. I appreciate that BJ's lets customers try a taste their beers before ordering a full glass. This has been my favorite restaurant at which to enjoy happy hour, and it will continue to be. Walked in for dinner tonight at 8 o'clock. There was a female standing behind the host desk with about 8 staff behind her, give or take. It was as if she was intentionally trying to not make eye contact with us - not sure why. I wasn't sure if I was standing too far away or what, so I walked from one side the of the desk so I was directly in front of her. There was a staff member talking to her, she looks up and then looks down, still no eye contact. It was actually pretty wild. There were five of us, just standing there while her and this guy were just talking. My wife and I looked at each other, took the kids and just walked out. We were a group of 12 down in San Diego for a weekend family excursion, and we ended up at this BJ's on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. This location is on the outskirts of the Mershops North County Mall. There is plenty of parking all around the restaurant. We arrived first and checked in while we waited for the others to arrive. We were seated within five minutes after everybody was present. We ordered a variety of appetizers to start including the avocado egg rolls, spinach and artichoke dip, boneless wings. garlic shrimp with Parmesan toast, and chicken pot stickers. All of the appetizers were good, and we ordered a second round of a few of them. For my entrée, I had the slow roasted tri-tip with blue cheese crumbles and the garlic-roasted vegetables. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Blue cheese crumbles always make a good steak even better. I really liked the assortment of veggies, but they were a tiny bit on the dry and overcooked side. Everybody at the table seemed to enjoy their entrees, and there were no mistakes on any of the orders. We were seating quickly (about 15 min wait) and the place was packed on Friday night. I like that you can see many TVs, not only in the bar area across the restaurant if you'd like to watch your favorite sporting event. We each had one cocktail and then we all ordered from the $13 special menu. Food portions were great, and the special includes a Pazooki with an option to upgrade to the larger version of that dessert. Still a solid happy hour M-F until 7. Can be crowded, so a large group may not be a great idea. Queso dip is no longer a $4 chip-dip option, but the guacamole is really good and a good portion. Also enjoyed the smokey red salsa. Sliders are a great deal. I was expecting two for $7 and instead you get four! It is now in my rotation. As a BJ's Beer Club member, I really enjoy knowing that where ever I go, I can enjoy a beer and a good appetizer. Today I was on my way back from visiting clients in Baja to the San Gabriel Valley when I decided to get out of traffic. i stopped here and had a Nutty Brewnette and the pan fried Pot Stickers. Always delicious and always a great deal during Happy Hour. Service was great and like the design if very typical BJ's. This location still has the beer taps out front. Started using the points system since we are always here. We like the seasonal pizookies the butterfinger one is our favorite. The strawberry was okay. The Cookie Monster was sad literally just dyed blue and overcooked but probably because we came on a Tuesday and it was packed but still they should have cooked it right. Curious about your reservation system. A group made a reservation and arrived on time this evening, only to be told that the reservation time is merely a "check-in time." If that is your policy, it should be made very clear when reservations are booked. And if you know you won't be able to accommodate a reserved party until approximately 20+ minutes after their scheduled time, a courtesy call would seem appropriate. More concerning was how the group was handled once they were seated. Staff split the group up, saying there wasn't a table available that could accommodate everyone, yet an adequately sized table was instead given to a family of four. It was difficult not to wonder whether the fact that this was a group of teenage girls played a role in how seriously their reservation was treated. Teenagers are paying customers too. There are plenty of polite, respectful teens who dine out, behave appropriately, and tip generously. I hope you'll reconsider both how your reservation policy is communicated and how younger guests are treated, because this experience left a very poor impression. read more

Tuesday was $5 cookie and ice cream night so that was fun to get your own dessert! Cookie was a little overcooked but still edible. Maybe a couple of minutes less in the oven would be perfect. Wow this menu has gone down hill. Service is good but most of the time waiters or bar tenders spend most of their time apologize for how bad the food is. I ordered a sandwich that was cooked on the griddle but when i received the sandwich it was like the bread was melted away and i was holding chicken with crust around it. I thought it was just me then my parents went and they had a worse experience but at least they got a pazzoki thats the only reason they get 2 stars lol. Seriously, that was a compliment. My ribs were dry and tasted reheated a couple of times over. My asparagus were super stringy. Her potatoes were super dry. Don't get the Thursday special... apparently. They must make them early in the day and then heat them up as time goes on. It was a busy night. Went on a Tuesday night with 4 people. They told us it would be 40 minutes. Checked in after 45 minutes and they said another 10, ok. Check in again and they then said it would be another hour!?! No apologies, no reason. Absolutely ridiculous. We saw plenty of people come and go after us. We also had another group of friends who we saw with no issues. Still have no idea what happened or if they were discriminating in some way or just forgot or missed us but absolutely unacceptable. If we had known the timing we could have ordered to go or left. Or if they had any reason or modicum of understanding what they had done that would have been one thing. But we go semi often and wont be back unless they make changes to personnel. read more

I decided to hold my mom's 85th Birthday party at BJ's (Saturday, 7/11/26) and I am so glad I did. We had a large party of 30 and the store reserved half of the party section. We were given early access to put up decorations which we did not have much of. We stored the outside ordered cake in their fridge. Opted for the "Entree, Pizza and Salad" buffet plus unlimited non-alcoholic drinks which was a hit with family and friends. Since it was a buffet as food items were running low/out we were able to order more, and the food came within reasonable time. The non-alcoholic drinks were also refilled constantly. Now as far as the staff and service I was pleased with the dedicated server (Elizabeth H.) she was on top of things and was very accommodating. With such a large party it would be reasonable to expect something might go wrong but nothing major did. Elizabeth H. was deserving of that automatic 18% gratuity/tip. Additionally, the general manager that day was Phong (hopefully spelled that correct) and from start, middle and end of the event he was extremely helpful and understanding. Upon my arrival I looked at the setup and knew two additional tables would be needed and Phong had no issues with doing that. Phong even personally greeted my mom Happy Birthday before the event ended. The ambience was fine. The section we were in was clean and buffet setup had a good flow, and we were able to go in and out of the side door. The one thing that took a while to get situated was cranking up the AC, it was warm in that section, but it eventually got cooler. I told three different staff members the section was warm and to crank up the AC. But to the stores defense it may have taken a while to cool down such a big section. Finally, thank you to the staff (host, servers, kitchen crew, and manager) for contributing to making my mom's 85th Birthday enjoyable and a success. The restaurant industry is not easy and sometimes y'all are not complimented enough, so thank you again. BJ's Escondido has been one of our favorite places to go on our rotation for years. We usually sit in the bar area. Great lively and friendly atmosphere. They have excellent waiters and waitresses who are friendly and attentive, and remember our drinks! To be honest, they make this place great! They make us feel welcomed and want to come back again. The food has a good variety, something for everyone. They are really trying to not raise the price. Everything is decently tasty, especially for the reasonable price. $13 meals that come with a small pizookie are great deals and have some healthy options as well. Their app has a point system for discounts, and there are some perks if you join their beer club. We ordered a BJ's Favorite pizza at our last visit, and we noticed that they had changed toppings. A lot less toppings. A lot less sauce and cheese. We did not like the change. Sometimes, if they cannot keep up the same quality, they need to raise the price. This place was packed for a Wednesday night Perhaps it was Spring Break that had it jumping but we did have a bit of a wait. That's fine it was quick - less than what the hostess quoted. The food at BJ's is decent but not amazing. I'm sick of this trend where the kids menu Mac and cheese is box Mac and cheese so this is a 1/2 star reduction. Additionally only having Heineken zero as the NA beer option in 2025 is really depressing. My fiancé, his friends, and I went to BJ's tonight to celebrate his birthday, and unfortunately it turned into a really disappointing experience. The customer service was just okay overall. Our server took a long time checking on us and also took forever to bring the check, even after we asked kindly. The biggest issue was the food. My fiancé ordered wings, and when he bit into one, it was pink and bloody inside. One of his friends ordered a chicken pasta and found a piece of paper in his food. At that point, it completely ruined everyone's appetite. The server did apologize and even mentioned that other people had been complaining about raw chicken recently, which honestly was really concerning to hear. Since it was my fiancé's birthday, the server offered him a free pizookie, which we appreciated, but when the check finally came, we were still charged for it. We even had to ask another waiter for help because our server never came back.
