We ordered a glass of red wine, margarita from the happy hour menu 3-7 pm. We also ordered the avocado egg rolls, house salad with blue cheese, sliders and a personal deep dish pizza (bbq chicken). Standout was the avocado egg rolls, lots of avocado, creamy and cooked to perfection. House salad was a solid choice, blue cheese was good too. I did not try the sliders but hubs said they were good as well. Unfortunately the pizza was a bit doughy and because we had waited about 15-20 minutes for our entrees I wasn't about to send it back. Haven't been here in years, but we went back a month ago and life got busy, so here's my review. We ate on the covered outside patio, which was clean and roomy. Service was fantastic. The menu had alot of variety but I knew a good old swiss mushroom burger would fill me up. The food is excellent. My sister loved her greek pita tacos. Her husband tried out a flight of craft beers w his meal. The only one we collectively did NOT like was the Tatonka beer sample. The opinion was that it tasted like used motor oil. This BJs is located in the Grossmont mall. While parking should be plentiful- the mall is pretty busy, so it may take a little patience. Wheelchair friendly. And they have point rewards now, so we got a free desert because my family frequents the Phoenix location. Yay! I do recommend this location and will definitely come here again. read more

This was the most dirty BJs that I have ever been to. First the menus smelled terrible and sticky. Glass cups and utensils absolutely disgusting. While our waiter was very polite, we unfortunately had hair im my food. I have never been so grossed out by restaurant. The manager did remove the 2 items with hair off our bill. So this was my first time dining here, but my gf is very familiar with this chain. We sat at the bar as the restaurant which is very large was busy. We got some drinks, which took a while as the bartenders seemed preoccupied. We got our food order in and it was amazing. The shrimp and bread was amazing. I'm quite shocked this location has low ratings, every time i've been here has always been incredible and pleasing. I've always came here with a large party after my club event, and they are always happy to seat us, the wait is indeed about 45 minutes but we are a large group. The waiters are always bright and friendly, food is amazing, I'd recommend any of their appetizers and you can't miss the pizookie! It's always warm and delicious. read more

Where to begin...We are huge fans of BJ's at other locations. We used to go to the UTC BJ's almost every Friday for a solid 2 years. We aren't proud of this but have likely spent thousands at BJ's. When we moved to La Mesa, we tried to go to the La Mesa BJ's as our new BJ's, but we are 2 for 2 on awful experiences. The first time we went to the La Mesa BJ's, the food was good, but the service was exceptionally slow. What most troubled me is that usually, when the service is that slow, a good server will either send over something free, acknowledge the wait and apologize preemptively, or take something off the bill. None of that occurred. The second time we went to the La Mesa BJ's (today), we had an even worse experience. We went with our 8 month old baby and checked in at 7:05 p.m. We explicitly informed the hostess that we needed a high chair. Upon checking in, we were told, and I quote, "We have a table for you, but we are just cleaning it." If, at this time, they had told us it would take a half hour to get seated, we would have gone elsewhere. However, we never imagined it would take 30 minutes to clean one table. By 7:20 p.m., we still had not been seated, so I checked with the hostess. Upon checking, she said she thought she had a table for us, but that we could not put a high chair there but asked if we could do a booster seat by, which was not really okay given our 8 month old only recently started sitting up, and we DID tell them we needed a high chair. They told us if we needed a high chair (which, again, we had said from the minute we set foot in there), that we would need to wait even longer. At this point, our infant was melting down, and we were about to leave, but by 7:37 p.m. (I know because I took a photo when we were seated of all the empty tables), we were finally seated, meaning it took them 30 minutes "to clean our table." Upon being seated, our server, Julian, was nice as could be. However, there were a few areas where service could have been improved: he brought drinks with no straws, appetizers without bringing appetizer plates, and dessert for 5 adults with only 2 spoons. FOOD: The food was my worst BJ's dining experience ever: 1. Caesar salad - The only good thing; however, usually they come by and ask if you want freshly ground pepper. This did not occur. 2. French fries - These fries were not hot and were, no exaggeration, the worst fries I have ever had. They were also brought without any ketchup or ranch. 3. Prime Rib - Was 50% fat, a weird color, and not a lot of taste 4. Loaded baked potato - Super DRY and did not come with sour cream like usual 5. Roasted vegetables - AWFUL. Super DRY as well and not flavorful. (On other occasions, these have been great.) 6. Butter pasta - Not cooked well and flavorless 7. Pizookies - In all of the times I have been to BJ's, I have never had a complaint about a pizookie, but the pizookies were overcooked so much so that I had to cut one of them with a steak knife just to eat it We informed our server, Julian, of the issues and asked to speak with the manager. The manager was very kind, empathetic, and understanding and reduced our bill by about 50%, which was very nice. Unfortunately, it was not enough to encourage us to ever return. We don't plan on ever patronizing this BJ's location ever again. In sum, absolutely eat ANYWHERE ELSE unless you want terrible food and extremely slow service. read more

I ordered a sliders in the pictures. The pan is around and they're thick when I got mine. The buns were still stuck together. That burgers were flat and nothing like the pictures which upset me in my server did not make me happy when I have to ask for silverware after my food gets here. Two visits in 2 weeks. First visit was fast service with a great server. Second visit, today, was horrible. Extremely slow service, a disrespectful server. The server called me 'old man' when taking our order. I think he thought it was cute. Also addressed my wife as 'beautiful lady' at the same time. She is, but that's not the point. Drinks ; a bottled beer and a glass of wine took over 15minutes to be delivered. Food took almost a half hour after that and was luke warm when received. A simple ice cream dessert for our granddaughter took another 15 minutes. We had to find someone to take the empty plates off the table. We spent almost an hour and 45 minutes there. Food is always great and it's clearly popular as it's always busy. I consistently order my food for pickup and unfortunately, it's always late, by about 15 mins to half an hour beyond the time their app establishes it will be ready. So most of the time, I'm torn between really craving the food here but not wanting to deal with the frustration at pickup. (I still deal with it most of the time, as the service is usually good too, even when I am waiting longer than was projected to me. Tonight I made an error by selecting the Dine In option on my phone. I was attempting to just pay but I inadvertently pushed something else instead. (This is what happens when I try to grab my keys while completing the order at the same time.) While I appreciate that the girl at the desk fixed it for me to make it an order for pickup, she had an attitude of inconvenience, which particularly aggravates me as I also work in hospitality and I tip on my To Go orders. Now here I sit writing this review. It's now half an hour past when my order should've been done. I've got tip money in my hand that I walked in the door with, a headache and I'm seriously debating on just canceling the order entirely. Update: After no further acknowledgment of my time waiting for my order, (I seriously began to wonder if it was actually put in as I was told.) I canceled my order and left. Don't get why it has only a solid 3 star rating. I think it's definitely better than that. I saw the 13.00 meal deal commercial and decided to give it a try. There are numerous options but I decided to get chicken tortilla soup and wedge salad and by and large they were both good. You get unlimited also so I could have gotten more soup. I was trying to save room for dessert. Soup was slightly oversalted. Overall tasty though. Like I said I was trying to save room for the free pizzooki dessert, so I didn't get more soup. About 10 minutes went by, and I saw a few more bags up there so I asked if one was the order I was waiting on, because he was not paying attention. So I see another bag up there, & asked a girl who looks like she may be cashing out for the day or something (she was very sweet), but said "I'm not allowed to hand out to go orders." HUH??? Then she started counting her money again and I asked if she could please call someone because the customer had been waiting almost 20 minutes. She went to find someone, and it took them another four minutes to get up to the desk. Literally no sense of urgency or care that someone is waiting on their food. I worked in restaurants as a server, food runner, an assistant manager, a bartender, and a cocktail waitress (I was also a flight attendant for a major airline) - so I know what good service is, and this wasn't it. She apologized and offered me a gift card to come back and try the restaurant again .. tonight I took my mother and my daughter out and we had a much better experience, the food was better.. still have a few issues they could work on . As in if you order an appetizer platter to share with other people at your table, they should bring plates prior to bringing the appetizer platter. I Shouldn't have to ask for them after the food's already sat on my table. I felt like our waitress must've known the people in the two seats that were next to us because they seem to get their food quicker than us as well as she kept taking plates and cups off their table, but didn't take any of ours until I mentioned it.. but all in all we left satisfied.. with leftovers and full bellies and a completely different opinion of this establishment. Honestly though, the happy hour is a great value but the food is like they kind of half-ass some items. They have decent ingredients to work with but below average execution. No real sauce, just crushed tomatoes which kinda kills it for me. Overpriced too. Actually I tend to like it saucy like my ladies... Unless you decide to order the tavern cut pizza, which is a very thin cracker-type crust. I like this one but I can practically eat the entire thing. Super thin but the tastiest option. I tried the beer club for about a year and have been considering getting out. It is not a bad value with all the perks but costs like 30$ every 2 months. But the food here never wows me. I do like the mozzarella and tomato salad, and the lentil soup however. Now the lentil soup is gone. Beers are just ok with the Zany Zitrus seasonal being my favorite. Service is above average every time at this location and earns a 4 star review here, food and beer 3 to 3.5. You might feel ripped off on the food if you pay full price, just saying. Quick rundown: Food: bland and tasteless. We ordered the grilled shrimp with the toasted bread (looked amazing on the menu, came out looking fresh out the microwave. Also pretty sure the shrimp are farm raised and they are tiny. Broccoli cheese soup was OK but just mostly cheese. Cesar salad was ok. The chicken club flatbread sucked it was topped with way too many canned tomatoes The pizza we ordered wasn't cooked and way too doughy, and the steak was like rubber. We sat in the bar area and waited.... And waited.... And waited. I finally went and asked the hostess if she wouldn't mind getting us some water and she was sweet enough to accommodate us. Our waitress went to every other table but ours every time she decided to make her rounds. Most of the time she was a disappearing act. I asked her to please adjust the air as it was very cold and I believe she either left it alone or turned it colder. We place our order and then wait...and wait.... And wait. I had ordered a salad before my entree and I ended up cancelling it because it never came out and I didn't want to have to eat my salad while my entree got cold. We tried to get her attention multiple times and she would ignore us. Finally I get my bill and she's got to go back and remove the salad, we wait...and wait...and wait. She brings back the "corrected" bill and added a beer which was never ordered. So she takes it again to correct it and we are finally able to pay and leave this awful experience. This server should not be in customer service, most certainly not on the bar side. She wasn't friendly or accommodating whatsoever. I understand that finding good employees is hard but this will type of employee will eventually cause you to close your doors. Come on BJ's, do better! read more

Went here yesterday with a group of friends and I have to say I was a bit worried due to the overall rating here, but in the end it exceeded expectations. We arrived as a group on a Sunday for lunch. It was a bit busy, but they were able to get us a table for 9 in fifteen minutes which was awesome. Upon sitting down we were greeted by our server, Taylor. Taylor definitely get a five plus for stars here. She was very attentive, quick to get us refills on drinks without us ever having to ask and she checked on us all the time. All while she had to attend to other tables mind you. If you come here, Taylor is the server you want. Atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was very clean which is right. They had the pro bowl playing and thr volume wasn't blaring so we were all able to converse without having to yell. I went with one of their burgers for lunch and it's was really nice. For dessert I went with their cinnamon roll pizookie which was absolutely delicious and would happily get it again. Not sure why when your wait is going to be over 30 minutes, they tell you it will be three. Then once at your table it is another 30 minute wait and could have been longer had we not gotten up to go get someone to wait on us. The people working there are nice, but they aren't trained. They can't estimate or tell you time frames for dining. They clean tables (that no one comes to) rather than taking orders of people that are there. Every time we are there they either make up things or have to check on how the rewards program works. Why have a program if you aren't going to train your employees on how it works. As far as food - we again were fools to order the ahi salad - it's a great salad - but the ahi is so tiny - it hardly shows up - the pieces are smaller than the size of a nickel! There were three in our party and we ordered: * Sal's Brewhouse Chicken: Chicken was tough and overcooked. * Hickory Brisket Sandwich: Filling and delicious. * Soup & Salad Combo: The wedge salad was smaller than expected, and the soup was served in a regular bowl rather than the bread bowl as pictured. We had to reorder the soup, and it took an additional 15 minutes to arrive. When it did arrive, it was delicious! Unfortunately, our server wasn't attentive. We had to flag him down multiple times--even for the soup issue. When it came time to pay, there were no instructions given about how to do so.
