Chicken taco in pita bread with fries and a side of Greek dressing
Susan S.

The ambiance at BJ's is upscale bar & grill, but on the casual side. It's located near Franklin Park Mall, so it probably attracts some shoppers. I was there with a group of people after seeing a movie at the mall. I had a chicken taco in pita bread. It was served with a tasty pico de gallo that was very fresh and delicious. There wasn't a lot of chicken, but what was there was good. Our server was very nice and efficient but it took a while for our food to come out. The person seated across from me received the wrong order and didn't receive the correct order until everyone else had finished their meals. She wasn't charged for the meal, fortunately, but it was a shame that she had to sit there while everyone else was eating. Overall, I would return and recommend BJ's.

Ribeye and Baked Potato

Visited BJ's for a birthday. No complaints from anyone at the table! Fast and friendly service and delicious food. Inviting atmosphere. I tried everything on the table besides the double bone in pork chop (which was HUGE). However, it was tender yet cooked thoroughly. Both steaks were tender and flavorful. The salmon was fresh and as good as it looks in the picture!! The Jambalaya is very flavorful and spicy. Shrimp scampi, great sauce. I even started putting the sauce on my mashed potatoes and vegetables, lol! My tipsy snowman drink (amazing). I had two. If this drink is called something else outside of the holiday season, please let me know so I can continue to order it. Thanks, BJ's! It's always an enjoyable time!

Master of nothing. BJs is a chain. The Texas and California locations are a little better. They have a large menu but nothing is consistently good. I just got some chips n queso this last time. Clumps of cheese like it wasn't cooked all the way. Got a California flatbread to go last month. Had to put it back in the oven at home. It was doughy. The service at the bar or at tables is good. Every time I have gone it's 3/4 empty unlike other locations which are packed from happy hour on. I really feel like they need to cut the menu in half and specialize in something instead of having a little bit of everything. If I'm in the neighborhood I would stop by for maybe an appetizer and a beer but that's about it.

It's not that BJ's is bad, because categorically it is not. But it's also not good, at all. Full stop. Not good. Completely generic, the menu has the traditional American-chain "try to please everyone" approach, with pizza, pasta, burgers, salads, globally focused apps.... you name it, they have it, and all of it is average at best. None of the dishes shine from a flavor perspective, and everything is weirdly bland. That said, all items are technically prepared with textbook accuracy that makes you wonder what was lost in translation, but can likely be blamed on low quality, off season ingredients. With a staff that offer up welcoming smiles and eye contact that make you wonder if they know something you don't, you'll notice a dozen or more servers and staff swarming around the floor, as you find yourself curious where the heck your own server went. During a recent visit, we only saw ours twice, once to take our order and once when I waved her down with my credit card. Long story short, avoid if you're in the mood for good food and a memorable experience.

Dubai chocolate espresso martini

bartender did amazing on the martini, however when we ordered a beer we regularly get it was the wrong beer poured, we were told to deal with it as it was the "correct beer poured." it was not. server was barely attentive and the new dessert barely had any toppings. looked nothing like the photo. wont be coming back. usually love bjs.

I was pretty impressed by the beer list, BJ's brand, locals, great regionals, etc.

The service is a bit slow. The food: The menus is pretty extensive...it's not 'Cheesecake Factory extensive,' but it's extensive. A huge menu is often suggestive of a "Jack of all trades, master of none" situation, but I'm not so sure that's true. I can't tell you everything I, my family, or my buddies have ordered, but I honestly can't think of anybody who was really truly unhappy with their food selection. I'd probably go elsewhere for my pizza, though. The service is a bit slow. The atmosphere: Clean and comfortable. Outside, there's a small-ish covered patio with a glass "fire table," and about 7 to 10 tables. Inside, you barely notice the plexiglass shields between the booths. The service is a bit slow. The beer: The beer list is pretty damned large, and seems to be well curated. BJ's brews their own products in 5 small breweries throughout the west, and ships it up to Toledo. On the beer menu, there's usually about 7 or 8 local brews. The service is a bit slow. The service: It's a bit slow. But it's always been friendly and accurate. I don't come here when I'm in a hurry, and either should you. If you're in a hurry, you shouldn't come here, because the service is a bit slow. 5 stars!

To my surprise the parking lot is packed and there's nowhere to park. No signs or anything indicating you can park around the back as I found out later so I ended up parking in the lot next door. They only have a few chicken items on the menu. One chicken sandwich and one roasted chicken dinner. I got the chicken sandwich which is the Hyde park. This is the same exact sandwich I've gotten every time I've ever been here which is why I really haven't come back because there's not a lot of selection for me. The other reason is they got rid of the croissants on the menu LOL. The service was fast and friendly and there was about a medium sized crowd inside despite the parking lot being full. They have kind of a dark semi romantic atmosphere I guess they're going for. The chicken sandwich was nice and tender. I'm not a fan of the shoe string fries because they remind me of Steak and Shake and at this price point I think they should have some good fries here. They actually had a few craft beers on tap but I thought the cocktail prices were a little extreme at 15 plus. My girl got the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and the potatoes were ice cold so they lose a star for that. Other than that I have no complaints except that the pricing for lunch. $20 for a chicken sandwich is a bit much to me.

I hadn't realized before that there is a large room to the right of the bar area. We were there for a somewhat early dinner at 6pm on a Saturday and the place was bustling! Definitely make a reservation. (I used Open Table online two or three weeks in advance and it was very easy.) We were greeted shortly after being seated and our server advised us of the special entrees after taking our drink orders. We decided to split the roasted beet salad which also came with herbed goat cheese. Our server brought the salad on two plates- already divided. The salad was absolutely amazing!! I am seriously still craving it and the portion was so large that I couldn't even finish my half. Our server promptly boxed it up before our entrees were served. For the main course, I ordered one of the specials- scallops with rice sauteed with spinach. My friend had pork roast with carrots, which was a large portion - no complaints and she took home leftovers for another meal. I'll speak to my scallops... They were perfectly prepared, but there were only three scallops and a plentiful serving of rice and spinach. I love spinach and this side was very well seasoned. It didn't take long to eat the three scallops and the spinach pieces in the rice. I definitely enjoyed my meal, but wished for even one more scallop. Since my entree was a special that was verbally announced, I didn't know the price until I saw the bill. While it was delicious, I found the $41 charge a bit steep. The Standard is exceptional in almost every way- service was impeccable, amazing food, lovely ambiance- but be prepared for a pricey evening. My friend and I had a very enjoyable time and I definitely recommend this restaurant. I will say, however, that it can be difficult to talk because it is so busy. That said, it's popular for a reason! Check out the photos below for a virtual experience.

We didn't get anything from the bar, but it looked like they had a pretty nice selection. One perk is you can pay your bill at the table from your phone. I would eat there again in a heartbeat! Maybe get something from the bar next time.

I made reservations for a party of three on Marcel's website and yet the reservation didn't make it to the restaurant's reservation list... Yikes! Yet they were able to accommodate us, fortunately. We didn't realize it at first, but Chef Marcel's wife was our server. How lucky is she to eat so well on the regular?! She was very gracious and patient in tending to our table and answering our questions. Very lovely and down-to-earth! While Chef Marcel is known for visiting with customers, he was too busy iIn the kitchen when we were there. We started with the stuffed large portobello mushroom as an appetizer. It included beets and was delicious. No picture because we were hungry, but check out photos of the rest of our dinners! I should note that my two friends enjoyed the complimentary bread and raved about it. I held out for the appetizer, but the bread looked delicious. Two of us went with the weekly special of mahi mahi, which included a salad of mixed greens. The mahi mahi was served on tortilla shells with rice, black beans and cilantro. It was a unique combination that was delicious. Our other friend opted for the chicken marsala with button mushrooms over rigatoni.. She also ordered the brussel sprouts as a side and loved them. I think I tasted more of the flavors blending together especially with the apples and onions. I tried the wedge salad, so delicious especially with the candied pecans. My husband had the salmon bisque soup and the grouper for dinner. I had a bite of the broccoli and the polenta with a taste of the grouper and it was really good with a slight kick! The grouper was meaty and mild. Of course we had to have dessert even after a bottle of prosecco! We tried the pineapple carrot cake and the chocolate Panna cotta for the second time. I highly recommend both, the pineapple is a perfect ingredient! I'm excited to see what the spring menu will bring and to return to try the Korean bbq steak and have more of the Dutch Bitterballen! They only offer wine and beer, which works for me!

We had a reservation for 6pm and the lobby area was already packed on a Saturday. If you're familiar with the Cooper's Hawk chain, it's about wine, a cool, mostly upscale casual ambiance and generally great food. Upon entering, there is a long bar for wine tasting and also opportunities to purchase wine-related decanters, glasses and (of course!) wine! We buzzed straight through that area to check in for our reservation. And I definitely recommend a reservation unless you want to hang out for a while tasting various wines before being seated. Anyway, our reserved booth was ready right on time and was very comfortable. The restaurant was pretty busy and yet we were promptly greeted by Dante' our server. He brought us each two complimentary wine tastings before taking our wine order. He also answered questions about the menu and brought us hot pretzel bread. The atmosphere in the restaurant was on the loud side because it was so busy and at times it was difficult to hear Dante' or to converse in general. We didn't order appetizers because we knew the entrees would be substantial. In the current economy, it wasn't surprising to see that prices had definitely increased since the last visit. A glass of wine was $11 for house wine and entree's ranged in price based on whatever you chose to order. My friend ordered the Chicken Madeira, which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I ordered the Ellie's Chicken Piccata with pasta, which I've enjoyed on past visits, and also added a side of asparagus. Both my friend and I enjoyed our first couple of bites. My friend found that the sauce became overwhelmingly sweet on the Chicken Madeira. I found that my entrée had way too much lemon sauce, although the chicken was perfectly cooked and tender. It was rather disappointing since I remember this entree being amazing in the past. It wasn't anything bad but too much sauce was simply too much and detracted from the meal. If I ordered it again, I would request light sauce, but that's definitely a hypothetical if... I probably would order the salmon dinner. However, I'm not really in any hurry to return. Dante' did a great job as our server and allowed us to linger as we continued to catch up with each other's lives. I would recommend this restaurant with the caveat that a Saturday night would likely be very busy in the dining room and the kitchen. Check out pictures below.
