Me and my pals love to go to BJ's! We went a few days ago and had an... interesting experience. While it was rather entertaining, it was extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable on many levels. Before we even had our drinks ordered the young waitress was complaining about her busy week balancing final exams and work, as well as calling out other customers who were being difficult, using explicit language. One of my friends ordered a meal that came with a side and the waitress said "I'm just going to order you smiley fries" without giving her an option. She then later proceeded to eat one of my friends fries! Ridiculous! She kept coming up to the table because she "didn't want to work" at one point she said out of the blue while complaining "I also hate children". She checked the time on my friends phone that was siting near the edge of the table without asking and took a knife from the table to demonstrate her eyeliner routine. I could go on and on about this visit and the details she shared about her boyfriend, family disconnect, and previous job experiences. My friends and I are looking back and laughing, however in the moment it was a very unpleasant experience. read more

The food is usually ok and the wait is average. More times than not, service is slow or the server is not personable until the check is brought out. Pizza and beer is the high point as is the Calamari. Stay clear of the salads, you may be disappointed. Desserts are pretty great. Nice place to take family if you want to stay awhile and talk (server may get lost). Have an ordering plan in advance or you may be waiting a while to find the server again. I wish I could give this restaurant 0 stars. I rarely complain or go somewhere that I am just disgusted by, but this place was that kind of experience. At our table we ordered an appetizer sampler (which we never received, but were charged for until my husband corrected the server) a steak, a burger, chicken Alfredo and the cheeseburger pizza. Both the Alfredo and the steak were ice cold, as were the sides with the steak. My pizza was in edible. The sauce had the taste and consistency of ketchup. It took 30 mins for us to get our drinks, even though we were sitting in the bar and just ordered beers. Only our friends burger was even edible, and even it wasn't anything special. We will probably never go back to this location after our first disastrous visit. I've dined at others, including the ones in temple and round rock and they were great but combining poor, slow service with cold and unappetizing food and you have a recipe for restaurant failure. read more

I have always enjoyed eating at BJs. Went this past weekend and as usual the food was very good. I asked the waiter to let us enjoy our drinks and appetizer but he kept coming over pushing us to order. We were there early, no crowd at all and he kept pushing us to order. Went in with plans to have a leisurely meal but ended up like going through a drive through. Entre arrived before we had finished our small appetizer. As a matter of habit, I avoid chains, but I'll make an exception for this BJ's. The waitstaff has always been attentive and accommodating of special/odd requests. The food is good but pricey. Items I highly recommend are the calamari, flatbread pizzas, Ahi tuna salad, Ahi poke, fried artichokes, burgers, tomato soup, and deep dish pizzas. I do not recommend the top shelf margaritas ($9 each and kinda skimpy on the booze) or the side that comes with the pitas (too bland). read more

First time here I got a small deep dish pizza. Paid $10 and it was about the size of a teacup saucer. I never received my side salad, and it took entirely too long to receive my bill. Came back once more and got the Hawaiian Mahi Mahi- it was extremely tasty. However, I feel like the food and service is not worth the prices. We had a party of group of 11 at BJ's to celebrate a birthday. It was my nephews 21st birthday, and since he enjoys BJ's pizza, this was his choice. Instead of a celebration it turned into a calamity. It all started at the bar. 730 on a Sunday evening the only people waiting at the bar were the 6 men in our group. The bartender Dean, ignored the group staying at the far end of the bar, with his back turned, pretending he did not see us. However upon entering we made eye contact with Dean, however Dean disregarded the group, turned his back, walking away from our group. We are not a group of undesirable customers; we own small business, one is a fireman, civil engineer, and one is a banker. Not wanting to be bothered with his customers, Dean rushed pass the group, and disappeared in the back area of the restaurant. After 5 minutes, yea we timed him, he rushed back in behind the bar, ran to the far end of the bar, and spit tobacco juice into a cup. At that point with noticeable regret, surly body language, and lack of concern, he made his way down to our group. I asked him his name, he asked "why you want my name", I said because we want to make sure we know who to pay. Dean then informed us he would be right back, and again disappeared into the kitchen. This time he reappeared only a few seconds later, and reluctantly, and unpleasantly took our drink orders, which were just some craft beers. At that point a manger appeared, I asked her what Dean's problem was and she said I will have a talk with him later. She was aware and acknowledged Dean's attitude. She should have sent him home. Maybe she didn't have a replacement, however I would suspect managers could pour beer and make a few cocktails. Dean should not be serving customers. If he wants to be this hipster bartender servicing craft cocktails, with an attitude, he needs to find another place to work. The attitude does not work in a family casual restaurant. He needs to be terminated. So we make it to our table and our adventure continues. Megan our server was nice enough, and pleasant, however she struggled with the orders. Half the tables food came out before any one received their appetizers, (we canceled the appetizers) carried by servers, just looking to dump the orders on the table, asking who ordered this and who ordered that, no clue, no direction, clumsily looking at greased stained order tickets, not even knowing what they were carrying. No management, no direction, no training. So half the group sat around for 15 minutes +/- waiting for their others (including the person celebrating his birthday), while the others in the group sat politely waiting to eat their food only when the other orders appeared. 15 minutes later the other food arrived, and guess what a few of the orders were incorrect. We asked Megan if they were short staffed or overwhelmed with business (there might have been 50 people in the restaurant), she answered no to both questions. We asked about Dean the angry bartender, who hates his job, hates the customers, and seems bothered about serving customers. She said he's like that with everyone, that his girlfriend is a manager here. Now we know why his behavior is allowed. What a great night at BJ's. At this point the manager, came out apologized, and handed everyone in our group "courtesy cards". Wouldn't it be nice, not to have to hand out "courtesy cards", just make the dining experience as pleasant as possible up front. Start by terminating Dean. Find a kitchen manager to manage the kitchen effectively, find employees who care about their tips and serving customers correctly. Just remember we live in Waco, and look what happened at Twin Peaks, and the investment dollars lost, and the reputation of a restaurant chain forever stained. We have eating a tBJ's around the county for a number of years. We live in Waco, and have pride in our community. I have clients who come to town and spend up to a week in Waco. They ask for restaurant recommendations the company always recommends BJ's. We have considered BJ's for our office catering. Unfortunately due to Dean, and the unpleasant experience on a slow Sunday night, we have to reconsider our opinion of BJ's. My hope is someone at BJ's with direction, authority, and appreciation for the customer reads this and take action. Again Dean is a liability, he will not make the site money, and Dean will cause customers to stay away. read more

Came in last night for takeout and the young lady behind the counter was very sweet and professional. She made sure we had everything we needed before we left, even bagged our items separately so our ice cream would survive the trip home. The 'neighborhood' bar & grill concept has entered a new era, catering to those who tire of burger-based menus, tacky things on walls, and mass-produced beers. They still want a place to watch the game, but they want to feel grown up doing it. Restaurants like BJ's, Gordon Biersch, and Dogfish Head are seeking to fill this glorified sports bar niche. BJ's brings together Americans' newfound taste for microbrews and their enduring appetite for Chicago-style deep dish pizza in what amounts to a franchised gastropub. Of course, there's a full menu to accommodate everyone's tastes, but beer and pizza serve as the backbone. The aesthetic is reminiscent of Cheesecake Factory-style opulence, featuring dark woods, high ceilings, and a large bar with backlit liquor bottles. Kitschy memorabilia are here forgone in favor of a large corporate mural of nondescript yeoman farmers growing wheat and making beer. The bar has a massive four-picture television, and smaller screens are tastefully interspersed throughout the rest of the restaurant. We enjoyed the starter Caesar (creamy with a slight zip), the spicy sausage deep dish (the heat builds nicely), and their 'Pizookie,' which is a rather hokey name for a miniature hot cookie pie topped with ice cream. We used a Google Offer, but I'm a little annoyed that they didn't suggest the 'Party for Two' special, featured on their website, which would have come out even better. read more

First time in Waco & BJ's! My brother in law took me and hubby out for dinner. I had the North Beach Mahi mahi and Shirimp & Blood Orange Pom Sangria. The Mahi Mahi was delicious although when it first arrived it wasn't the best presentation. The Sangria was okay. Hubby had their salmon and BIL had one of their deep dish pizzas. They liked the food a lot! Our server was very friendly and prompt. I would love to go back sometime to try their beers. read more

This was a horrible experience. The waitress was more interested in the family behind us. The first glass that I was served broke as I picked it up. They quickly cleaned it up, and a manager told us that is was not our fault and that they did not mind cleaning up after the spill ????? We waited for about 15 minutes to get another drink ordered, and another 10 to order our food. We then spent the next 40 minutes waiting on our food that we ordered. (Mind you still soaking wet with the drink that had spilled on me.) The waitress never checked on us, until we were ready to just go. Then told us that the food we ordered takes 20 minutes to cook, which is fine but we had ordered it 40 minutes prior. I told her we were pretty much ready to leave money on the table and walk out, she walked away and said she was sorry while looking the other way. Then promptly walked back to continue to converse with the table behind us. I then told my husband it was time to go. We left an adequate amount of money on the table and told her we were just going to go. She then said oh sorry dear. I thought that this was a bit lacking in guest service. I understand if you are busy it taking a while, however in my past experience as a waitress I would have engaged with my table more than once to ensure there was not anything else they needed, especially if I had been right there talking to a table behind them. I can not believe how disappointing the service was at this location. I would have given it a 0 star but it was not an option. read more

We ate at Bj's in Waco tonight and seriously had THE BEST waitress and service that we've had in a very long time! The manager was great and if you eat there, you absolutely must ask for Dominique! My friend and I both ordered mixed drinks that were clearly watered down. We sent them back, and they came back watered down again. We ordered food and a while later the waitress said they were out of it so we ordered again. They were out of that also. So we got cheese sticks, drank our expensive water and asked for the check. It was $83!!! They charged us for the food we didn't get and the drinks we sent back. We got the food taken off. Never again will I go here! Ended up with a $62 bill for cheese sticks and water. read more

It definitely feels like a chain restaurant. The food is good enough, and the beers are very good. Service is prompt and pleasant. Hostess sat us at dirty table. We had to ask for it to be cleaned. Ordered appetizer. Asked for plates to eat it with when it came out. The plates were dirty with someone else's food all over the bottom of two of them. Waiter rolled his eyes at us for asking for clean plates. Did not apologize or try to make experience better. My food came out wrong. Asked for no onions meal had onions on it. My husbands food also came out wrong he ordered salmon got chicken our friend ordered steak medium. It came out well done. All in all terrible experience. To make it worse our waiter did not care or even try to make anything better. In fact he made experience worse by terrible attitude. read more

Service Needs Work. BJ's is a normal place to go with safe, reliable, and tasty food. I have been to this chain a ton of times in other cities, but this was my first bad experience...in Waco of all places. The food we ordered had errors, the waits were unreasonable, the waitress was always in a rush and normally made routes around the tables she waited so that none of us could get her attention. In addition, they completely forgot about a side order that we ordered, and then it took us a while to get it off of our bill. All in all, I am hoping that we just caught them on a bad day, but with other options in Waco for dinner places, I am not sure if I will find out. We had a reservation for 12pm.bc my neice just graduated from Baylor University in Waco we got seated around 12:15pm. mind you we only have one waitress for 24 people at this time. the young lady that was the waitress didn't get any help until 12:45pm but it wasn't until 1:00 pm when they started taking our orders , The customer service is horrible. I felt like we were being discriminated against, why because there was another table that had 15 people at it and they had two waitress helping them. My wife waited 15 minutes for a drink refill. The server never put our order in so we sat at the table for over an hour. The server said, many times, "I don't know where your food is" every time she passed our table but not once came to relay what was going on. I am not one to make a big deal but after 75 minutes of NO food and 2 very tired toddlers, the night was ruined. I understand busy but a server who is non-communicative is unacceptable and will never come back. I have removed any and all apps/points/rewards in my name. Also, the manager ONLY showed up when things were past being fixed. I believe all managers usually come by at least once at restaurants. Lastly, the server mentioned she was new, MANY MANY times. When I asked the manager, he didn't even know! And he said HE was new!! (Insert BIG eye roll). Just know before entering this establishment that the staff and management are horrible and you may wait a LONG time for your food (if you get it at all). By then we were done eating.Talked to management and all he could say was he was having a hard time finding his beer to tap it . It takes 40 minutes to find your product. Need to find someone who knows his job is what they need to find.Then we went last night. It was a Friday and expected it to be busy . And it was. Had a fourty minute wait. Got to our table and the the hostess was very robotic and repitishious. Just looking at someone or something . I do have to say our server was good. Keep asking us if we needed anything, My food came and my fries were cold and greasy . My fish was hot. My son ordered the Crunchy jalepeno burger. One half was good the other side looked like a piece of charcoal. Black black black, couldn't even poke it with a fork.. Brought this to the waiters attention and he brought the manager over. He looked at it and said snotlty well did you get enough to eat? What would you like me to do . Good food and beer - but ABYSMAL service. Server started by asking if we wanted sodas - really? Sodas at a brewery? - We are all well over thirty years old. Food arrived but server never asked if we wished to order a second round of beers. We all had to ask for more beer. Server never returned to ask if our food was OK - it was not. Our salad had no dressing. Waited nearly ten minutes to receive our beers even though the restaurant was not overly busy. Spoke to the manager who said he would personally bring us our dressing and beers. He did not, nor did the manager ever come by later to see if our dining experience was improving. To finish the awful service, our waiter placed our bills on the table with no pens. We waited five minutes to ask for a pen but never saw the waiter. Finally had to borrow a pen. One would think a restaurant chain like this would have better training of staff, from the waiter to the manager. Incompetent service all the way around. Most likely will not return. read more

My friends and I normally love BJ's but this location is terrible. Food quality inconsistent (usually charred vegetables) as is service. Management is unprofessional, disrespectful, and dishonest. My table was charged for our bill as well as the bill for the table next to us and, if it were not for someone at my table overhearing the manager asking the other table to "do him a favor to make his deposit right," we wouldn't even have know to check our bank statement and see the extra charge. Management quickly disappeared to the back and the waitress avoided all attempts to get her attention. Needless to say, we won't be going back. After giving them the benefit of the doubt on two other awful experiences, this was definitely the final straw. If you're really craving BJ's, go to the location in Temple. It's worth the drive to avoid terrible food, service, and underhanded management. read more
