It's been about a year since I've eaten at BJ's. They have made some changes to their menu but they still have a great variety of food and beverage options. We didn't order any appetizers but the honey Sriracha Brussel sprouts and the Brewhouse Blonde Asparagus caught my eye. They added a bunch of cocktails to the menu. My friend and I both had the Hendricks Cucumber Lemonade. It was so good and refreshing! For dinner I had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken which was really delicious! It came with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The side dishes were awesome, but unfortunately they only put four broccoli florets on the plate. I thought maybe there were more hiding under the chicken or mashed potatoes, but there weren't. That was disappointing because it was really good. Of course the portion of chicken and mashed potatoes were massive, especially compared to the broccoli. I of course had to have a Pizookie for dessert. They added a few new flavors, but I opted for chocolate chunk because you can't go wrong. It was really good, but it was stuck to the skillet. We eventually had to ask for a knife to help scrape it off the bottom. My friend had the beignet and it was hard to cut through as well. The outside was really crispy and good but you still needed a knife to break through it because the spoon wasn't doing a very good job. I was expecting a traditional beiginet. This looked more like some sort of circular pastry thing with berries and whipped cream. No powdered sugar. It wasn't even that doughy. It was good, just different that the traditional beignet that I was expecting. The wait staff was awesome and professional. The service we received was up there with the service you would receive at a fancy steakhouse. Everything (minus the lack of broccoli on my plate) was great! read more

Had a not so great experience right after Christmas. Apparently the food quality has gone downhill a bit in the last few years. My girlfriend had the steak and I had the glazed salmon. Her steak was way overdone and bone dry and my salmon was tasty but ridiculously small. I did notice that it was on the (I forget what its called) "light" menu but the piece of salmon was smaller than a deck of cards. We're both not picky and a little shy about sending food back and coming off as entitled or rude so we just ate it. I'm sure they would've fixed it but we were starving so partially our fault. The strawberry beignet was delicious and the server was very nice and took good care of us so can't say anything bad there. BJ's is a good place to come if you've got alot of picky eaters to please. Their menu size is on par with a grocery store romance novel, or cheesecake factory menu. Their pizza is deep-dish style: very doughy and usually very light on the sauce. I prefer thin-crust pizza, so I usually go for one of their flatbread appetizer pizzas as my meal. They run about $10. I've had the roasted veggie and goat cheese and the California BLT-style one. The goat cheese and veggie was better, but both were very light on toppings. there were maybe about 8 tiny chunks of avocado on my BLT pizza. very disappointing. The best things about BJ's are their in-house microbrew beers, which are pretty good, and their p'zookies--a cookie baked in a mini pizza pan and topped with ice cream. really, that's all I come here for. all of the other food is kind of meh. and the prices are always surprisingly high....we got the appetizer flat bread pizza, a chicken marsala, a p'zookie and split an app of spinach artichoke dip...and the bill was $38! Not a great value, especially considering our meals didn't come with soup or salad. read more

Oh dear. Alrighty we come here a lot cause certain people in the family crave it. Now there is one. How do I say this so no one comes after me... flamboyant very extra but down to earth waiter that we get EVERY TIME! I love him so much, he is the best waiter there for sure! Now this time my boyfriend and I went and sadly my favorite guy wasn't there. And apparently neither was our waitress cause she seemed to have disappeared before we got there. So after sitting and waiting at the table to be greeted for a while, my boyfriend got up and went to the hostess stand where luckily the manager was standing. He ended up getting our drink order and appetizer. After we finished all of that our waitress showed up, so good of her too. A table close by us got ahold of the manager when he came and checked on us again and told him that they had been sitting there for 30-45mins and had not seen there waitress. (They had the same waitress as us) so the manager promptly went over and talked to Shante and then became that tables waiter. Now if she had shown up to her tables and maybe not have ROLLED her eyes EVERY time she deigned to come to our table and say a few syllables maybe if she didn't royally mess up on the basic premise of being a waitress, we would have had a good experience. Oh and the table we were sat at was covered in pizza goo and ruined my white skirt. Also if Shante is going to sit there and talk trash and point at us I would prefer she did it closer to our table so at least I can find amusement in what she's decided WE have done wrong in this situation. For a middle of the road restaurant chain, I rather enjoy you, BJ's, I really do. Seared Ahi salad, I applaud you. Not a single bite of scariness. Dressing was a bit on the heavy side, but vinegary goodness isn't hard to love for me. Tried a pizookie and LOVED it. Then discovered ONE pizookie has 1000+ calories. Just one. So yeah, think about it. I have no complaints myself, but I hear you can't make margaritas well. I watched a friend order 2 different kinds and didn't like either. I'll stick to the brews. read more

Popped in for lunch waiting for tropical storm bill to hit. Overwhelming menu. Felt bad the waitress kept asking if we were ready to order but if you have 120 items with description to each, it's going to take some time to decide. A good reason to come here is the fact there is so much variety. In house brewed beer but opted for a shiner bock. Ordered the Santa Fe Spring Rolls thinking they were like the Chili's southwestern egg rolls. Nope, not at all alike. These are smaller in size, good, but not what I expected. I think there's 10 halves to an order. Also had the lunch Southern Fried Chicken. It's one breaded chicken breast over a heap of mashed potatoes surrounded by corn with cream gravy on top. I've been here a few times now.... the food quality is good and you get a nice serving size. I've had to wait for a table most times that'd I've come, but I think they have an app and you can do call ahead reservations. The restaurant area is pretty big, but the restaurant is popular so expect a wait. I've tried a few things on the menu, my favorite being the dessert pizzoki which is what they like to be known for (it's a hot cookie in a deep dish cookie pan with ice cream on top - yum! I'll say the last time I was here I had the unhappiest and unfriendly waitress ever. Kinda put a damper on my view of this restaurant. I was convinced against my much better judgment to return to this location for dinner by some colleagues who were looking for a bit out after work. I have to say, if anything, this BJ's has regressed since I last visited. We had a party of 6, and from the outset, the staff treated us like we were a problem to be ignored. When we arrived and my coworker told the hostess how many were in our party, the hostess grew angry when we asked if it would be possible for us to sit outside. When we tried to explain that it was not an issue either way, she walked away from the hostess stand without saying anything and didn't return for about five minutes. We all looked at each other and wondered aloud if we should go elsewhere. I almost said something but let it go to. We got seated after about 15 minutes, even though there wasn't a big crowd. Maybe they were shortstaffed, but it wasn't a pleasant wait, standing around the entrance while other people came and went. When we were seated, it took about ten minutes for anyone to come to our table, and then it was just to tell us that someone would be over in a few minutes. When our waitress did materialize, she was so snotty and uninterested in serving us that one of my coworkers wanted to ask for a different server. The rest of the dinner went about as poorly as expected. We waited forever to get drinks and our entrees seemed like they'd been sitting out by the time we got them. The worst part of the whole experience was that two of the people in our party were from out of town, and they drew the conclusion from that evening that people in Houston are rude and inhospitable. We tried to convince them that this was just one place in town, but they had been to other BJ's in Round Rock and Dallas where they'd had positive experiences, so they assumed it was just the local culture that was rude and inhospitable. Bottom line, things haven't improved at this location. It's not a place I would spend another dime of my money, and I wouldn't have visited on this occasion without the coercion of the group's choice. read more

I ordered online was given a pick up time of 7pm. I was there exactly at 7 pm. I waited at the pick up counter for at least 15 min for someone to help me. When I stated the to Christine I was very rudely told she was using the restroom. To which I replied, " you don't think someone should have been here to take care of the customers? I understand everyone need to use the restroom but leaving your station without coverage for customers is a very poor business practice. She was extremely rude and had zero customers skills. It is funny. When this place first opened in our area, we thought it was just a new great local restaurant with a awesome variety of menu items and a selection of their own beers on tap. We obviously were pretty naive as it already was a chain of restaurants that had hit on a successful formula to get people in the door and to keep coming back. Even though there are even more choices in the area, the popularity of this restaurant has not died down; its still got a full parking lot on most nights. I arrived at 530 pm on a Friday hoping to catch happy hour prices and get ahead of the dinner rush. Easily found a seat at a high top table in the bar area. The atmosphere is fine (granite tabletops, brick walls, high ceilings), music is not too loud, and there are 6 TVs behind the bar tuned to all the usual sports channels. Noise level is high enough already that I can imagine it might be a bit much at peak times. Decided to order 2 selections from the Happy Hour menu: Dark Horse Cabernet, $5, normal price $7.75 Avocado Egg Rolls, $6, normal price $10.95 Wine is unexceptional but perfectly fine for the price. There are 6 egg rolls on the plate, enough for 2 people. They are deep fried and hot with a very sweet dipping sauce. Calories are super-high so watch out. But avocados are healthy fats, right? Overall I am going to rate this place pretty high. Why? Because it is better than just about any other comparable place. I have been here many times and have been going out to eat in Houston since the 80s, so I have pretty much tried them all. The menu is huge (24 pages!) and has calorie counts for everything so anyone should be able to find something they like. Prices are reasonable. Higher than Chili's and lower than PF Changs. The usual downside of going to BJs is that it is very popular at peak times and staff has a hard time keeping up. Bottom line I give it 4 out of 5 stars. It is clearly better than Fridays, Chili's, Marie Callendar (are they still around?), BWW, Hooters and it's imitators. Maybe on par with Brickhouse and a step below Houston's (told you I have been to them all). Now I am am going to dig into a seared Ahi salad ($15.50, big enough for two), relax, and contemplate my new hobby as a restaurant critic on Yelp. read more

I took off a few stars because curbside can be slow because it's under staffed (not the fault of the staff who are always very nice). Curbside needs designated back up personnel to take calls and run orders as well as another parking spot there is currently only one which is not enough for a restaurant of this size. Went to a business lunch. I have been going to BJs for over a decade. Its consistent. The restaurant hasnt changed much over the years. We were seated after a bit if a wait. No one else was waiting - the seating staff was slow. The menu has a billion items on it. Always a challenge to get through. However there are plenty of options. The waiter was pushy and wasn't very attentive. The food did come out very fast. The server who brought the food out was confused about what table to bring it. The food was fine. We just visited BJ's Thursday and had a call ahead for 18. Oh, and in ten minutes at lunchtime. Not an easy task to pull off any day, any time. But they did it with flying colors. I want to single out our server, Brian. Brian took on our very 'challenging' family and sailed through the lunch like a real pro. There wasn't a hiccup the entire visit and the family were all very pleased with their food and especially the service by Brian. Large parties are extremely difficult but he handled it like it was a table for 2. Brian, this is a real talent and to do so very naturally and with ease that allows the diner to relax and enjoy their experience. This is true hospitality.
