I have been going to this establishment for about a year and their customer service towards people of color is disrespectful. They will NOT acknowledge you, but when other individuals come into their place of business, they go out of their way to speak. I tolerated this behavior because Sam does great work and I couldn't find anyone in the area that could do nails the way I like them. I faithfully get my nails (hands only) done every month and pay at least $150. I never questioned why I had to pay $150 or $190, I just paid it and always include a tip. Do I think they were overcharging me, YES, but I still paid for the nails. My very last experience with this establishment hurt my feelings. I didn't like the way they didn't acknowledge me and I spoke as I entered, as I do every time. The owner or her husband yelled at me when I asked when was my two broke nails were going to be fixed. I am not sure if Sam used a different product or did something different but I had gotten my nails done on a Thursday. One nail broke on the following Friday. I went to the shop for them to fix it that Friday. Then on Saturday another nail broke. I called the shop and the owner requested that I come in on Monday to fix the nail after work. Monday came, another nail broke, and I received a text stating Sam was sick and could I come Tuesday after work. I stated sure and that I hope Sam feels better. They knew i was coming in after work but yet I had to wait almost 1 1/2 hours before she fixed my two broke nails. Not only did they ignore my presence but he yelled at my stating the other lady has appointment, as if I didn't have one. Communication is key. They could have spoken to me when I entered, let me know that there was an appointment ahead of me, and asked if i could come back at a certain time. But they yelled at me. I sat quietly ONLY because I had a flight to catch the very next day. Additionally, when I came into the establishment on Friday for a fix, there was a lady that had an appointment with Sam. We were talking about my nails, I'm giving Sam praise on her work. The lady stated that I could go before her since it was just one nail. I stated thank you. She even went as far as to letting Sam know that it was OK for me to go, she didn't mind. Sam said NO. I waited patiently. I even offered to pay for the broke nail even though I didn't do anything out the normal to cause the break. I treat people with respect and I expect the same treatment, especially if I am spending money in your establishment. I was a loyal customer, I referred people to Sam. I have never acted unprofessional in your establishment. If you are an individual of color, please don't go to any nail shop in Yelm, especially THIS nail shop. I'm giving you a 1 star because of how you treated me, how you made me feel, how you tried to embarrass me in front of an establishment full of white people. Sam is rude, the owners are rude. You should work on your customer service skills. read more

Worst experience in a nail salon ever. I've been here many times and noticed it going down hill.. Today while getting a pedicure 5 of the nail techs got into a huge and extremely loud argument sitting right there by all of the pedicure chairs. The manager was in a chair right next to me and after 5 minutes of listening to it, I asked him if he could please ask them to stop yelling. He looked at me and said "they're not yelling" and turned right back to them without saying a word. I know that a big part of the vietnamese language is tone and inflection and it sometimes seems loud, this was not that. This was extremely loud. Then two gals walked in to get pedicures and he told them they would have to wait ten minutes because these workers were still sitting there yelling at each other. Decided to try the salon out again. I went when they first opened. I was not impressed then and still not impressed. The girl at the 3rd nail station was rude to guests as they would walk in. They spoke in different language with each other and just began laughing at the customer after they spoke to her to see what she wanted done. The main guy in the front was sick and coughing into his palm of his hands while assisting guests. Finally, he went to the back because he couldn't stop coughing. I used to be a regular customer there, then out of nowhere I would go in and they would say that they had appointments and didn't have time. About a month ago; my mom and my 2 sisyers and I got pedicures here ($275 plus tip) and they sure did take our money that day. Today, My mom made an appointment for us to get fills & after waiting 45 minutes, a man walks in and says "can I talk to you" and brings me outside to tell me that his techs don't want to do my nails. No reasoning, nothing. Just don't want to do them. I am a full time manager at a coffee stand, so I know how to tip well.. I am never rude or disrespectful or loud. I come in and get my nails done and go about my day.. but never will I EVER return here, nor would I ever recommend them. I have heard of them being rude on countless occasions but I never thought anything of it. Because it wasn't to me, until today. So no, I wouldn't recommend going here. Got a pedicure 3/22/25 and by the end of the day by toe was bleeding. Felt it sore just walking and when I got home to look it was a lot of blood and extremely tender and painful. Today 3/23 still very tender and painful. Tried to clean it and it started bleeding a lot again. Do not recommend this place! read more

i had a pedicure. the man next to me had toe fungus on his big toe. the same tech that did his did mine. the tech started to use the same tools as she used on him. yuk!! I asked her to please use sterilize equipment on my feet. she refused to clean out under my toe nail. she said my toe is ingrown told her it isn't that side of my seems to get extra junk under my mail for some reason. The nail techs at Black & White Nail Salon do a fantastic job every time I get my nails done. The staff at black and white are always very friendly and the salon itself has a very comforting vibe to it. Additionally I'd like to say the price is really good, it costs around $45 for a full set and $30 for a classic pedicure. I recommend anyone to go to this salon, and I honestly believe it is the best nail salon in yelm. One last thing I'd like to say is that my acrylics from b&w will literally last longer than 2 weeks most of the time, and I've heard they will last up to 4 weeks for some people!! I went in to get my nails done and hated how they turned out so I went back about 10 or so days later. I wanted them removed and the lady who saw me aggressively took off my acrylics by using the tips they apply to your nail to give you length. She wedged it under the acrylic and pushed it until my acrylics popped off, damaging my natural nails. Never have I been somewhere they didn't soak or file them down to remove them. I told her it was painful but she just continued to try to pry them off. This place is awful. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. read more

I really liked Black & White nails the first time I went here. This time not so much. When you pay $44 for a full set Plus a $5.00 tip I expected my nails to last longer then 10 days. Not clue why but they began discoloring at 7 days on the tips. I didnt do anything different. No cleaning chemicals, no tanning beds/uv light, not food stained, I dont smoke. Nothing. Possibly the gel nail polish they used is going bad? #137 btw. Im disappointed. My first time at Black and White nails in Yelm. I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful the shop is. My nail tech was Sam. She was awesome! Very sweet and caring. Took her time and made my nails look great without hurting me. She is super gentle. I have neuropathy in my hands and it's hard to find a nail tech that's as gentle as Sam! A lot of times when I leave Lacey nails I'm in pain because of how rough the techs are there. I think I will try Sam again for my next fill. She explained everything to me including what she was going to do with my nails and how much it costs which was a total surprise but nice too know and be informed. She did a beautiful job with my mermaid style polish and fill. She shaped my nails exactly hOw I like them. I've given this spa several times to fix their inconsistency. I called last week to schedule an appointment with Lori, the owner said that Lori had a appointment then we scheduled for a appointment the next day at 0930, I arrived at 0930 then they told me she was sick and no one had time to do what I wanted which was a full set with French tips. I called back a few days later to schedule with Lori, the owner said she's on vacation. So finally I asked what the real issue was because I've received several different stories. Then he replied honestly we have had a lot of issues with Lori, I respect that but why lie? Being desperate and not wanting to drive further to a better salon, I scheduled a appointment for two days later at 1pm, Today I went to the appointment I arrived at 12:57 and they kept me waiting until I eventually walked out. I refuse to continue to be treated like less than a valuable costumer. My expectations are to high for Black and White nails. Went for a polish change on a manicure; after she got my polish off. I went to wash my hands, I came back and she was using the cuticle cutter on herself and then proceeded to use it on me. I have been to this nail salon several times once when they first opened they had great deals and my nails looked amazing... the last time I went in I was not as happy I got a polish change that was $25 on my natural nails and it started peeling the next day the time before that I got a pedicure and it was great long-lasting but the nails acrylic that I had done were wonky wavy uneven and just looked horrible I have since moved away from the acrylic going with just regular polish on my natural nail however the gel that they use must be low-quality because it immediately starts peeling around the edges I would recommend them for pedicures only however the wait is usually long seems like they don't have very many people that are qualified to do all aspects of the services they offer... read more
