This was my first time here and what a nice surprise this turned out to be. Stacy our waitress was a delight. We ordered the stuffed zucchini for our appetizer. Our meals came with a house salad a dinner rolls. I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs. I love trying ribs wherever I go...just like octopus my favorite. Everyone makes them differently. Second time we have been there while on vacation. In December and again this last week. Both times service was great. We were greeted the moment we walked in. They were very busy and were told it was a 20 mins wait for a party of 4. While waiting they have a little shop attached you can shop at (10%) off the total with your recipe from the restaurant. We were sat approximately 15 minutes later. Drink order taken quickly. Each person had something different at our table (forgot to take pictures). The bacon wrapped steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The ribs fell off the bone. Grilled and fried shrimp were both ordered and tasted amazing. The food just wasn't good. The steaks were paper thin and unseasoned. There's no way they were 16 oz steaks. None of them were cooked even close to correctly . When we saw that they had an early bird dinner menu we decided to have dinner there tonight. Honestly, with today's prices, you can't beat their early bird menu prices. My sister's partner and I had the prime rib dinner that came with soup or salad, warm rolls with honey butter, one side and a house dessert. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and we loved the chocolate cake with whipped cream. My only real complaint was the salad greens were wilted. The baked potato came with sour cream and butter but you had to pay extra for cheese and bacon. My sister's partner got the sirloin steak and she didn't have any complaints, cooked perfectly but, agreed the salad could have been fresher. My husband got the bacon wrapped fillet with fried shrimp and baked potato. He got a Caesar salad for a $3 up charge. Our waiter Greg was very attentive. I was at a convention and when I go to these things, I like to have one meal during the convention where I splurge on something more substantial than fast food or smaller table-service. This time around, it was the Black Angus Steakhouse. This is a steakhouse that hearkens back to the steakhouses I remember from the 1980's... lots of dark wood, somewhat dark inside, booths and tables for people to sit at, and a bar at the back of the restaurant with mid-level spirits for the travelling businessman on an expense account. I chose to sit at the bar, because the lighting was better there (I like to read when I am solo for places like this) and when a restaurant is busy with people waiting for a table, there always seems to be space at the bar. The bartender was a little on the slow side, not because it was busy (he had all of three customers, and the place was not packed, so he was also not busy making drinks for tables). However, he did eventually get my drink order and got a menu to me. Going through the menu, I decided on a ribeye with mashed potatoes and a side salad. The salad was good, and the mashed potatoes were lovely. The steak... well, it needed seasoning. I don't go for steak sauces or anything like that, but seasoning of a steak is definitely needed, and this just did not have it. I remember coming here 28 years ago and the food then was just as good as the food now. The service is impeccable. The ambience is one of Old style traditional western. Our dining experience was not good! The server was very polite yet not very good. He brought the wrong salads and had too many of them. He forgot the salad dressing and I had to go to the kitchen to get it after ten minutes. Someone at our table waited 20 minutes for a soda while asking the server several times. The salad for an entree said lots of veggies. It had about 6 black olives, a few shredded carrots, a tablespoon of shredded cheese and that's it! The prime rib looked like it was either boiled or microwaved. It was grey. The burger was huge in size but overcooked and tasted like a frozen patty. Poor dining experience but there's always a positive and the take away is -- they're providing jobs for people who need them. Took the family out for a nice dinner before leaving time. The consensus wanted to visit a steakhouse so we looked up nearby steakhouses. Black Angus was the first option to pop and after reading reviews; we decided to visit them. This place has a retro vibe of a classic old school steakhouse. They've been around since 1974 and I'm sure that's not by accident. Reservations were made as we are in a busy area. Once we arrived we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. I was a bit concerned as the place was pretty empty. Usually an empty restaurant around dinner time is never a good sign, but after sitting for a while we realized we beat the crowd. This was a very nice dining experience. Steaks were all quality cuts and cooked to everyone's desired doneness. My father in law wanted a steak and had been here several times before and has raved about the food. I joined him and my mother in law with my 3 year old for lunch today. Our table was covered in a sticky substance (it looked like it had been "cleaned" by the way the menus and silverware was placed) so that wasn't a pleasant first impression, but luckily I had a stash of baby wipes with me so I was able to wipe the film of sticky off before touching the table again. I ordered the 6oz ribeye, which appeared larger than 6 Oz when it was delivered, but it was by far the fattiest ribeye I have ever tried to eat. I had to cut off almost 1/4 of the steak because it was nearly all fat. The loaded baked potato was over cooked. I ordered the pizza for my kid and a strawberry lemonade and asked for a kid cup. The server brought an empty kids cup to the table and then served the strawberry lemonade in a Hurricane glass and served it to me. The Hurricane glass was filled to the brim with ice, so I had to transfer the drink to the kids cup myself and had to pour it off the side of the table since I knew it would spill and make a mess (it did). I'm not sure why the server didn't deliver the drink FOR A CHILD already in the kids cup, but he must've been a brand new server. Besides that, service was ok. My in-laws said their steaks were ok, but my father in law admitted his food wasn't as good as it had been the previous times. I had higher expectations for a restaurant that specializes in steak, especially when it was $29 for a 6oz and included a very small, iceberg lettuce salad and over cooked baked potato. The decor was interesting - I couldn't tell if there was a single theme, or if the owners just bought what they thought was cool looking and threw it in the restaurant LOL. We split the very well dressed potato and salad. For N appetizer we got the onion ring stack. There were a lot of rings a half order option would have been better for us. There is no way we could have eaten that much food if we had each ordered a meal. I would eat here again.
