Tender, juicy Prime Rib slathered with creamy horseradish hits just right; hefty appetizer sampler (i.e. plump shrimp, freshly baked loaded potato skins, crisp zucchini, and lightly spiced chicken tenders) leaves a satisfied grin; and the fresh, refreshing strawberry cheesecake elicited a happy sigh. The Campfire Feast is customizable, generously portioned, and the renowned option of Black Angus Steakhouse. My family and I only order the Campfire Feast because it's easily the best choice. (Quick Tips: I heavily recommend upgrading the starter/appetizer to the Wagon Wheel Sampler; it's an additional $6, but it provides a lot more delicious food. My family and I had a wondrous, joyful time as we feasted. We arrived at Black Angus Steakhouse (Montclair) on Wednesday, around 3:30PM. This huge, well-ventilated, very clean location was not busy. The ambiance is very cozy and business casual. We requested the section near the TVs, and they quickly accommodated us. We had no wait. Our waitress (Estefany) is professional, welcoming, and helpful. Estefany worked hard to create a lovely dining atmosphere, and she regularly checked in and assisted us. As mentioned prior, the Campfire Feast is bountiful and extremely delicious. Receipt mentioned a Chef Daniel R. Bravo, Chef!! The Campfire Feast is a three-course-meal (includes appetizer, main entree, and dessert). For starter/appetizer, I selected the Wagon Wheel Sample (additional $6). For entree, I chose the Prime Rib 12oz - Medium Rare (additional $6). I always request fresh horse radish and creamy horse radish, so I can mix them together. For the sidekicks/sides, I selected the peppery, thick Loaded Baked Potato Soup and a Rice Pilaf for my entree. For dessert, I chose the Cheesecake. I was genuinely blown away with the high-quality cheesecake. It's adorned with fresh juicy strawberries. In 2024, Black Angus had partnered with Cheesecake Factory, and this superb cheesecake truly reflected it. YUM! Regarding wait times, we appreciated how we never felt rushed. The appetizer arrived in 11 minutes. My soup arrived in 18 minutes. The main entrees arrived in 38 minutes. And the dessert arrived timely after sharing our choices. It's a well-paced feast. We love the ambiance and food. We love the high backed booths that feel private and peaceful. The Blackberry Ginger Ale Mocktail is my favorite, and huge which is nice. The Hot Honey Brussels Sprouts Appetizer is amazing! My husband loves the steaks. They serve quality cuts of beef. One time on a very busy night we had poor service and my order was wrong. The whole experience was a mess. Without me asking, they comped a dessert which was nice. But We were so disappointed because we'd never had a problem before. This last time I asked for an excellent server whom I had remembered , FRANKIE. They sat us in his section and he is THE BEST! He is friendly, efficient and attentive. Finally got to go back after many many years, got the Groupon deal for the campfire for two which was a great deal but the overall food quality wasnt the same. The brown bread is still as good as it's always been, however, the biggest disappointment is as the baked potato soup, over peppered and overall texture was not it.. I used to love it so that was disappointing. The service tonight was slow, and it wasn't busy when we got there just past 7. I noticed the table near us had sent back their food for it not being cooked right, the table who came after us got their food first, our server hardly checked on us + the wrong side dish was brought out with the meal although she did resolve it. She took so long to come back to us towards the end of the meal to the point we tried to get up & flag anyone down to ask for a box, check and our dessert to go. Again, not a very busy night. I have eaten at some of the best steakhouses in California, Nevada, Arizona...Yet I always find myself feeling at home at Black Angus. Food is always great, simple and well priced. My wife and I enjoy the 3 course dinner for 2. We'll priced and includes a dessert. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. The NY strip is a solid cut, well proportioned and delicious. I wish I could give 0 stars This was my second visit in less than a month, and unfortunately it confirmed that the service issues here are not a one-off. On my first visit, the food was decent but the service was already lacking. My kids wanted to come back, so I gave it another chance. Last time, I purchased about $200 in gift cards and had roughly $30 remaining, which I noted at the time. On this visit, I printed the gift card info and also purchased an additional $100 in new gift cards. When it was time to pay, I was told the new gift cards worked--but the older one somehow had no balance. Knowing there should have been money left, I asked to speak with a manager. What followed was one of the most unprofessional interactions I've ever had in a restaurant. The person who came over (claiming to be the manager) opened with: "So, what's up? I heard you had issues with GC." No apology. No concern. Just attitude. When I explained the situation, he responded--rudely--"You want me to go back and look this up?" As if that was an unreasonable request. He then said it would take 15-20 minutes. I work in the restaurant industry myself, and I know that pulling up a gift card transaction does not take that long. The bigger issue wasn't the time--it was the complete lack of willingness to help. At that point, I felt dismissed, uncomfortable, and frankly disrespected. I told him to just charge my card because I didn't want to deal with it anymore. This was by far one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had, not because of the food--but because of the service and the shockingly poor management behavior. It's hard to believe that a company as large as Black Angus would allow someone with this attitude to represent them in a leadership role. If you value respectful service and basic professionalism, I would strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

I used to come to this Black Angus location a lot with my family, so it's honestly sad to see how much the quality has declined. I'm not sure if things have changed over time or if this was just an off day, but my recent visit was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. We ordered the $69 two-for deal, only to realize there were additional upcharges for certain cuts (like prime rib) and even for the Wagon Wheel. I'm sure it technically appears on the menu somewhere, but it certainly wasn't clear -- probably tucked into a tiny asterisk I didn't catch. The food didn't redeem any of it. The prime rib was dry, with no jus, tough in texture, and the flavor was just... off. The green bean side was so tough and fibrous that it felt like it wasn't even properly cooked. For the price, the overall quality felt shockingly low. Service was another issue. It took forever for us to get our entrées -- from start to finish, the entire meal took over an hour and a half. On top of that, their tap system wasn't even working properly. For a moment I half-joked to myself that I might end up washing dishes to make up for this overpriced meal. I haven't dined out in a long time, and this experience reminded me why. My home-cooked meals taste better and feel more satisfying. After traveling and eating in other countries, the contrast makes American restaurant food feel like it's really deteriorating -- this meal being a prime example. Their loaded potato was a bit dry, where usually they toast the skin maybe with oil or butter so it become crispy, but this time it was just a baked potato, then stuffed. Still good.
