Food excellent but atmosphere was sketchy. waitress had to deal with a drunk and a lady that sat at bar area and was rude so she told her she needed to leave.She was very nice to us and she was all by herself even though we were only one in there to eat.I don't know if so knew them or not but it wasn't the best part of town but that was fine cause that was our first time in the restaurant. read more

My mom and I visited on Mother's day and went around 6. There weren't but three people in the Restaurant (which was great). Our waiter's name was Leroy and he was a pleasure to be around and is great with the kiddos, making them smile and enjoy the dining experience as well as the adults. Margaritas are pretty good here considering... We got the boudain egg rolls which were really good but I'd suggest waiting until they cool to get the actual flavors. For our entree we both got the black bayou shrimp which sounded SO amazing but was really just 6 over boiled shrimp over fried rice with chewy crawfish tails. I loved the food last time I went, so I was excited to be back on the area to stop again. I called the restaurant at 12:40, 40 minutes after they opened to place a to-go order. She told me I needed to call back in 30 minutes because the manager wasn't there so she couldn't get into the system to place the order. With a Cajun restaurant name like "Black Bayou Restaurant and Bar" in South East Texas you better be coming with some flavors strong enough to back it up. So on a Tuesday night (pre corona quarantine)I was there to find out just what they were about. I asked the bartender (Christina) what was recommended and after a rundown of the menu I decided on boiled crawfish. I asked for spicy. They came out really quick and they were definitely spicy. It was the good kinda spice. The kind that makes you want to keep eating while downing a beer every few minutes. They weren't just spicy. They were flavorful as well and perfectly cooked. Some how the ghosts of memories of the old whataburger linger if you grew up here, but you wouldn't know it if you're new in town. The staff is superperb. Friendly, competent, and professional. The food is on point. I got the combo pho, which is steak and brisket. Homemade broth. Wife had the black bayou shrimp which was seasoned tasty and just right. I'm so happy Yelp suggested this place! This old Whataburger has been transformed into a modern Viet Cajun restaurant and bar. I love the atmosphere upon arrival and the outdoor patio; further down the road, I would suggest the business owners add a tv outside as well. The weather so gorgeous today, sunny and cool with a light breeze. It would have been nice to watch the game from outside! But it's not a big deal. We sat at the bar to watch the game and we always love chatting with the bartender/server. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful! She made some suggestions about the menu and that really helped us decide on what to order. And even throughout our meal she was very friendly and chatted with us while still managing the rest of the tables. The Vietnamese coffee was authentic and delicious! And my boyfriend ordered a double jack and coke which was good of course lol. We ordered the boudin egg rolls which were slightly dark in appearance, however they tasted VERY good. And we're Louisianians so we know good boudin! We were shocked how well they encompassed boudin in an egg roll because we've tried them at other places and have always been disappointed until now. The remoulade that accompanied it was also notably impressive. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp entree over a bed of crawfish and sausage fried rice. He really enjoyed it. It was a very large portion so I think the price is fair. He liked that it almost tasted "seafood smoky" and that the dish was topped with some fried garlic which added a nice texture to the dish. I ordered the combination pho. It was a large portion as well. The meats were tender. The broth was fantastic. And I know it's corny to say, "my mom makes the best pho," but this one really did remind me of home haha. It was great and perfect for the cool weather. We stopped by this place after seeing some features from them on Instagram. I was hesitant because I hardly hear of upcoming places in Baytown but this place is amazing. The staff are very friendly towards us and help us picked out dishes we would enjoy. We ordered the boiled shrimp in their signature sauce and it was amazing. Their combination pho is amazing! The broth was rich to the point you don't need to add condiments to it. The beef was very tender and fell off right the bone. Definitely will be coming back to get crawfish and pho. read more

Walked into the restaurant and immediately knew it was going to be a nice experience. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place out by word of mouth. And we were not disappointed. We had the elotes as an appetizer added hot Cheetos and they were a real treat. They weren't stingy with the hot Cheetos or the cheese it was wonderful for drinks we had a beerrita and some shots: Mexican candies they were honestly the tastiest I've had. So sweet yet spicy the right amount. I was surprised very good :) for entrees my boyfriend had the chicken vermicelli the Chicken was seasoned sweet and tasty he loved it I had the buffalo shrimp I believe the rice was very nicely cooked and the shrimp had the right amount garlic. Went here while in Baytown, I ordered the black Bayou shrimp and it was not worth it. Rice appeared old and to be the bottom of the pot, and the crawfish didn't seem fresh. I would not recommend this place. Although it was a clean establishment it wasn't worth the price. read more

WOWOWOW!! You're in for a treat when you come to black bayou. Everything look good on the menu so I had to come by to see for myself. Got a warm greeting when we first arrived and ask if it was our first time. Told him we are from out of town and was hungryyy. Jo told us she going to take good care of us and recommends a few dishes. Of course we over ordered but there was no regrets. Starting from the first bite of the egg roll to the last drop of the gumbo everything was delicious. Wash it all down with a couple of drinks and you can't ask for anything better. Really enjoyed the thought of a boil location close by. Went with the husband and did crawfish fried rice, wings, combination pho, and shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail was basic boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce. I am giving them 5 stars do to the portions for cost. The wings were huge, and the crawfish fried rice came in the XL bowl for Genghis Grill. So more then enough. I was in Baytown for work and ended up having to stay the night because the weather cancelled all flights. So I yelped around and found Black Bayou--so happy I did! Everyone was so friendly and really made me feel welcome as soon as I walked through the door. I ordered the Boudin Balls for an appetizer and the Black Bayou Shrimp. Food was really good, I was very skeptical to try the food at this location but it was very tasteful. I ordered a small meal a stir fry of steak with vegetables and the meat was cooked right, the veggies were so tasteful with the sauce that was drizzled on top. Everything was ok until I saw the waitress (Kaitlin) cough right into a plate of food and just put her mask back on like nothing happened. I was completely astonished especially with the pandemic we're in, to see something like that in a restaurant! It's safe to say that we left without another bite.
