Me and my husband stopped by at this location on our way from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. We don't eat meat. So we ordered the Vegetarian omelet (the name speaks for itself) and California omelet (mushrooms, avocado, cheese). I noticed pieces of meat (chunks of sausage) in my omelet right away. I barely touched it. Our server was very nice and apologetic. She said the manager would take the omelette from the bill and also she suggested that I order something else. While this commotion was unraveling, my husband was eating his omelette. Maybe he was occupied with the ongoing situation, maybe his omelette was loaded with a lot of stuff, maybe it was his allergies due to the sand storm, but we only noticed chunks of meat in his omelette (lots of them) when he was 2/3 done with his omelette. To my surprise, the manager refused to remove the omelet from the bill stating that it was eaten!!!!! So the receipt that is attached to this review still shows "Vegetarian" omelet which we were charged for. I'm speechless. Shame on this chain, shame on the chef, shame on the management. Out of towners but not new to the Black Bear franchise. This place was in keeping with its truck stop crowd. Loud, not too busy with patrons but extremely busy with gossiping, loud profanity laden banter amongst the staff. Our server was good: attentive, accommodating and pleasant (Hispanic bald gentleman-forgot his name) The food: I ordered pork chops and they very much arrived pale, no grill/cook markings, under cooked and had a very noticeable over-refrigerated, reheated taste. I came here on MLK day for breakfast on the way to Vegas with some friends. This was my first time here and I've been wanting to really try it out, especially since there is one close to me where I live... Long story short: prices are very reasonable, especially for the portion sizes. I was extremely impressed with the taste and quality of my food. The Fiesta Scramble Omelette was super yummy. Personally, I'm a big fan of spicy food, so the jalapeños in this omelette hit the spot indefinitely. Their hash browns were good (maybe needed a little more salt or something). They also give 2 full pieces of toast cut into 4 individual half pieces which is generous. Most places. give just 1 full piece. My friends enjoyed their meals as well and raved about coming back which is definitely positive. Our server "Shilon" was extremely nice and took care of us with no issues at all. We made a great choice as the food here was way better. The portions are HUGE and the staff were very friendly. Best of all, it was cozy and clean here. We unfortunately didn't get to try their famous pie because we were so stuffed from the food. We got the southwest breakfast scramble which was basically biscuits and gravy with eggs and the chicken avocado club with sweet potato fries. I loved how the sweet potato fries were included at no extra charge unlike some places. The chicken was tender and topped with a lot of bacon. The only con was that I ordered sourdough bread but I was given white instead. The food was pretty good but not amazing, pretty average for what we ordered. The prices were very fair considering the amount if food you get and everything is about $11-12. A side salad here is like an entree size too. Definitely recommend it here! read more

I love stopping by here everytime we head to Las Vegas. It is at the perfect half way point from where I'm from, right at Barstow, 2.5 hours in and 2.5 hours out. By the time we arrive here it is breakfast time around 8AM so we always get the morning rush of people also heading to Vegas and truck drivers. The place is big so service is always really quick and we always get seated almost immediately. I love their menu! There is so many brunch items to choose from. All their plates are easily shareable between 2 people. Loads of food on each plate and really really big portions!! The promotional pictures look exactly what you get. Like I said service has always been quick and fast for us. We got our food pretty quick, and as you wait, you can always read on the newspaper themed menu they have. Learn some cool new facts about whatever year the newspaper was printed. I'd absolutely recommend this place for anyone looking for a good hearty meal while on the drive to Vegas. It was very spacious and we were immediately greeted and seated as we entered. Our waitress Gina was on it for sure with our drinks and made sure we had everything we needed. Within 12 minutes our food was at our table and Gina brought over come condiments and another refill for our drinks! I had the Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak and it was definitely BIG! The gravy was full of flavor and the steak was crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside. The hashbrowns we're cooked to perfection and my eggs were amazing. This was a meal I knew from sitting down I needed a to go box and I was right on the money! These portions are above generous so be prepared to eat here. We eat here three or four times a month. The food is decent with lots of choices. We miss the chicken pot pie and chicken dinner. The fish and chips isn't filling that gap. The breakfast is generally awesome. They make a fine fluffy pancake. The bacon is always top notch. There's a French dip you can not beat and the burgers are very good too. Review on customer service only (which was lacking). Came in with my husband last weekend after a vegas trip. Stopped in because we wanted a bit more than the traditional fast food experience we usually get during our drive back home. As soon as we come in, there is one person tending the register (per usual at any restaurant) and a sign at the podium that says "wait to be seated" where the check in list was- so we went to the counter to check in. She clearly sees us come in and yet she decides to assists another customer before even taking our names. The other customer noticed and gave the woman at the register a chance to help us first, she didn't. After she was done with the curteous customer, I approached her to ask where we can check in, she said "I can check you in"...then immediately takes a call instead of getting our names (which would have taken 1 minute). We wait an additional 5 or so minutes (10 minutes from the time we walked in JUST to check in) while she takes a full call order. Then another couple walks in and gets greeted by another worker who asks to check them in. To insult us even further, she tells the person on the phone to hold on a sec while she tells us (while looking at her coworker checking in another couple who came in way after us) "you can go check in with her". No "im sorry for the wait", or "wait, they were here waiting first". Or how about, "let me get your names"? We could have saved her the bother and written our own names on the list. We were one minute shy of walking out. We had to step in and say something. It wasn't crowded either, which made matters worse. We actually ended up walking out because we were so turned off by her attitude. As their creative newspaper-style menus state, they are known for their large portions and quality food; they don't sacrifice one for the other. My kids got the chocolate chip pancakes for the kids menu and they all loved it. I had the California Bacon Bear's Benedict which was excellent! It comes with your choice of strip cut hashbrowns, fresh fruit or red potatoes. I want with hashbrowns and asked for extra crispy and these were among the best hashbrowns I have had.
