I came back to Black Bear for a second visit with my two little ones and we were all very happy with our meal here so I felt the need to add an additional star to my previous review. I got the chicken sausage scramble which is on their lighter fare menu. There was no sacrifice of flavor or portion though - my meal consisted of some eggs scrambled with chicken sausage, veggies and cheese, with a side of wheat toast and fruit. Everything was well cooked and paired well together and left me feeling satiated but not overly stuffed. Fruit is not really "fresh" as advertised, but that's the case for most diners. My kids both got a cub cake which is 1 big pancake and two mini ones that come in the shape of a bear with some fruit and whipped cream, and some chocolate chips for the eyes. My kids loved it and scarfed most of it down. We also got a side of bacon for them to balance out the sweetness of the pancake and all 4 slices of bacon disappeared by the end of our meal too. For a diner that started in California, their more Southern options like chicken fried steak and grits aren't half bad. The service was friendly, attentive, and generous (we asked for creamer and our server brought us about 20, which is 18 more than I needed). We had a great time over bottomless coffee. My only grip is that the biscuit was a bit dry, but the gravy was excellent (half there!). The Black Bear dinner is one of my family's breakfast places, and My daughters love their pancakes. This morning we ordered the Fit & Focused Chicken Sausage Scramble and a kid's build-your-own breakfast plate. The servings at this restaurant are pretty hefty, so I could not finish my scramble even though it was fresh and delicious. My daughter's plate had one pancake, one sausage, and one egg. Unfortunately, she couldn't finish her pancake because it was a bit undercooked. The eggs had a strange flavor which I assumed came from the grill, but my daughter insisted on eating them. The service was friendly and fast. The server came twice to make sure we had what we needed to enjoy our meals. First thing first all the bad reviews scared me to even give BBD a chance..well I have even visited the original one in Mt Shasta! Ok I'm thinking some of the bad reviews were based on peek hours and weekends so I decided to come today at 11am on a Monday. That's what happened when you stopped driving, but i saw this place and wanted to try it out. An amazing place it is the staff was really nice the food was really good. I land up coming here twice because i got a free meal signed. Up to being a member, you get a lot of discounts. They make their homemade desserts and they have souvenirs, a very clean restaurant and lots of Tables so bring the family and kids they will love it here. Arrived with my husband and toddler on a weeknight. It was quiet and the kids menu is the most affordable we've seen in a while and includes a main, side and dessert (we usually get chicken strips, fries or grapes, and the huckleberry ice cream). Our son (4) loved it here, and now asks frequently to return, which means we have been here a handful of times again. Each experience has been quiet, not crowded, and we've enjoyed the food. (Club sandwich, soups, pot roast, meatloaf, etc.) The server has always been the same person too. Not sure if he recognizes us since he doesn't acknowledge, but we enjoy our visits and will be back again. Well, I will admit, a lot better than my last previous times - there wasn't crap in my food, and service wasn't awful. In fact, it was actually a decent dining experience. After finding junk in my food in 2019 (and then another visit in 2021 with bad service), we went back to give it another try. Service was really good, and the food was definitely better than it used to be; it was overly seasoned or not seasoned enough, but this visit was well done.
