Service was great even though food took a while but came out nice and warm friendly environment

yesterday I went to BBD with a group of friends I ordered the mini volcano and a side order of hash browns Food was meh But what was in it was shocking to me and my party of 8 There was a silver steel springy thing in my eggs ! I brought this to the attention of our waitress, just so it wouldn't happen to other people. I didn't want to make a big deal out if it, but they sure didn't seem to make a big deal out of it either No one wants to eat a piece of steel wire! For this reason, the yelp review was only 2 stars! Really bad service. I waited for 1 hour to be seated when I was told it would be only 20 minutes of wait time. Once my family and I were seated, we waited another 20 minutes just to give our orders. Then another hour just to get our food. Was not satisfied at all with the place. Will never come back again. Very poor service. Do not seat people if you don't have enough waiters. read more

The service was horriable. We walked up to the podeium and put our name for a party of 2 and the gentleman said just a few minutes. It was Sunday around noon. They were seating people. i went to black bear diner in bullhead city az, which the food was delicious and customer service was great!!!! i tried the black bear diner in lancaster ca. this was horrible. food was not cooked well. they remade it and put the toast at the top of the plate. the eggs overcooked, the hashbrown was not cooked well. the customer service is not friendly. she never checks on you to see if you need anything. it was the worst experience. i will not go back unless management changes, waitresses and cooks. this restaurant will not last here in lancaster. too bad!!!! they have fresh o.j. that's good. read more

Customer service is wonderful. Though I suspect it's severely short staffed because the restaurant looked pretty empty but the workers looked like they were hustling. We ordered some eggs Benedict, they were awful, the poached egg was fully cooked through. The rest of our food was fine. It just took a long time to be served. Placed looked clean. First time there. The restaurant appeared very empty. My daughter and I seated in a booth. The booths seats were broken on both sides of the table. You know when you sit down and "sink" into a hole. We sat the about 30 mins , and just deciding to walk out , when the waitress came over, we ordered. I asked that the table be wiped, in this "sticky" area. She brought drinks. Left, returned a few minutes later to wipe the table. We waited over 30 minutes to get out food. Both looking at the time, and commenting, we had been there an hour already. Our food was brought out by another server...and cold. No one came back to ask if we needed anything or how the food was. We finished the meal and waited for our check after more time waiting the check was brought over. The line to pay was 3 parties long , an no one at the register. A man working, appeared to be a manager, was walking around to empty table, possibly filling up ketchup and salt and pepper shakers. I notice him looking over to the register...because i found it wrong, he would not allow the customers to pay. The waitress we had , showed up to check everyone out. There was no smiling staff, no welcoming staff. Flat attitude no personality no smile when serving us. She was at the register, no smile, no thank you. During our dining experience , there were 3 empty , dirty booths near us. Two right across from us and on behind my daughter. The person cleaning tables, had the cart right next to our table while eating. Scrapping food off plates, putting dishes and silverware in a ben. Then with those dirty hand, puts the salt and pepper and whatever else was out of place back, wipes the table and put place mats down. I watched him do this to the 3 booths. How disgusting this was next to were we were eating, and to see the unhygienic and filthy way your tables are cleaned. I read on your place mats the history of the restaurant. Its a shame. This was our 1st visit to the Palmdale location. There is always a little bit of a wait to be seated, but that's indicative of a good restaurant. The customer service is what I h ave come to expect from BBD, above excellent! BBD is by far the best in customer service I have ever experienced at a restaurant! This time was no different. The dining room was clean, no sticky tables, no dirty utensils and nothing left on the floor. Hubby said the mens restroom was well stocked and clean. I love their little merchandise area, I browsed but did not buy. Our waitress was excellent. The food was almost perfect. I ordered my eggs over medium. What I received was over raw! The egg whites were still runny and the hashbrowns were burnt. My waitress checked in on us and immediately notice the egg soup on my plate and said, "those are not over medium, are they?" Nope, they are not. She put in another order and another staff person came over to see the eggs and apologized. Next set of eggs were perfect! Because of their huge portion we both had leftovers to take home. Two days later I heated them up and there was the metal clip they put on the end of a sausage roll in the sausage patty! I think who ever the chef was on Sunday either didn't care about what he was serving, needs more training or should look for other employment. Because this level of food quality was severely subpar. I still love Black Bear Dinner and still think I found a gem of a restaurant! I will give this location another shot in the future just based on the excellent service by wait staff and I know for a fact that they can, and normally do, much better on their food. I have been here for dinner and I loved it. The quality of the food is so good! Love the corn bread and the mashed potatoes with tri tip....but today I wanted to try the breakfast...OMG! The portions are big, the Denver omelette was packed with ham and fresh crispy bell pepper it was so good, the potatoes were seasoned and just perfect, pancake delicious with Crispy edges and it was dense but moist its so good! The BACON....caramelized and just bacon heaven! My partner loved his omelette as well along with the biscuit and gravy! We shared the bacon and he was so surprised! We will be back, it was fantastic! I love Black bear with my favorites being in central and northern California but now they have opened one near me so I went here for my free birthday breakfast. Horrible, I ordered scrambled eggs and I received gas that were stuck on the grill and scraped off even the pancakes were horrible and that's unheard of at black bear. I had to peel a layer or two off the bottom of my pancakes so that I could cut through with my fork, the eggs though ordered scrambled but you could tell they were put on the grill, forgot about, scraped off the grill and placed on my plate, and lastly, I was served liquid grits with the little hominy crunchies inside. not a great birthday breakfast but my hubby said it was free I shouldnt complain but I dont think it should make a difference. I have photos and videos but cant figure out how to upload them. I've decided not to patronize this Black Bear again but I will continue to visit them when I travel. read more

Absolutely abysmal service. No regard for the time of the customers. This is a problem when this location is faced with understaffing. The workers do try their best but there best is barely enough. For a name so renowned as Black bear, I would expect much better from them. So sad to say the very least as I genuinely do love the food. The third and last time I will go there. The last 2 times I went .. my husband's order was submitted. Mine was not. Waitress claimed she forgot. Well, I was the first order she took. Beyond rude considering it's happened twice in a row. Maybe brown women dont care for white women. That's the feeling I got anyway. The manager just made excuses for her. We're done.. won't be back and if anyone asks .. I'll tell them exactly my experience. We told them we didn't want the order since his meal was delivered and I sat there with nothing. Went in today as a party of 3. They were busy but we were told the wait would be 15-20 minutes so we decided to wait. It took an hour to be seated. We ordered our food almost immediately and it took another hour to bring out our food. Not joking. I had to ask for a box to go as they brought my plate because after 2 hours, I didn't have time to eat my meal. Food is delicious but was very unhappy with the length of time. Ok so this is the old soup plantation.. I took my wife for her birthday at end of Jan. Long stretch of nothing before you get to your seats. Eggs were cold Hash browns were not even cooked so we sent these back and didn't ask for them to remake Fries seemed like they were almost microwaved. Nasty looking lettuce Burger said 1/3 lb but looked like a baby burger Gave us a side of ranch with bacon in it which was really good but my wife is vegetarian and did not know until after and then got sick Not good at all. My family and I have always enjoyed coming here but today's visit was appalling. We came on a Sat night at 6pm and waited 5 min to be seated and got sat down by a waitress. She came back to get our order but refused to get our food order and told us only the drink order now. What?! We got our drinks and she never came back for our food order!!! We waited 51 min and saw she was getting orders from other tables at this time. My family and I just left and attempted to talk to the Mgr and they didn't have 1 on duty !!! The floor supervisor Kat spoke with us but just apologized! I have never experienced this at a restaurant. I have worked as a server before so I understand but not having a full staff on the floor on a Sat night and a MGR this is unacceptable. They have a liability on their hands. I ordered: Reuben with Fries Wife: Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon MIL: Same as wife In-law: Western Burger $100 for 4 meals and 3 drinks. Meatloaf was burnt on edges and dry in the middle. Weird choice of putting chunks of veggies in a meatloaf. Reuben was pretty decent, wish the kraut was stronger - but I like very strong sauerkraut so that's not on them. Western Burger was given a thumbs-up. Mashed potatoes looked drier than Walmart deli potatoes and probably out of a box. Green beans and bacon were described as flavorless. Disappointing compare to other Black Bear diner I've been to. In every location, I always order the corned beef hash and so far this location is the worst. They gave me 90% red potatoes and 10% corned beef. I couldn't even taste the corned beef! Red potatoes were burnt but the onions were fresh like it was just cut and put on the plate. Service was decent but it can be faster. They always clean the tables with bleach and it leaves a strong scent killing my braincells while eating. Black Bear is definitely becoming one of my favorite diners. Service: Very good. The waitress was friendly and made sure our coffee was always topped off. Food: Excellent. The portion size was big. I don't think it's possible to leave hungry here. Honestly everything I've had on the menu was good and would recommend. Cleanliness: Very good. No issues. Prices: $$ Not too bad. We waited to be seated, by a nice gentleman whom explained that we can only be provided one menu per table because the menus are limited. First and last time at Black Bear Diner!!! My family and l arrived at 11am this morning. We were told the wait was around 20-30mins (I took a glance at the seating chat and there were about 10 parties before us). I checked the time and it was 11:38am. We had been waiting to be called to get seated for over 30mins. Finally, we get seated. Another 30 mins go by and we still haven't been greeted by our server or our order taken down. At this point, we've been waiting for an hour. Just a little background on me, l am in my third trimester and a high risk pregnancy. I'm pregnant, hungry and frustrated! I didn't get offered a water or an apology for the long wait. Our server finally comes over to take our order after waiting almost an hour and it's now 12:15pm in the afternoon! The server was a young lady, she was very sweet and had other tables to assist despite the lack of customer service from the diner. We finally get our food at 1:30pm. They forgot the French toast, side of hash browns and my child's side of fruit. That took another 15-20 mins for them to bring out. The French toast was dry and hard and without any syrup! I had asked for some syrup and it took my server about 15 mins to bring me some. The worst French toast ever! By the time, we got our food and waited for the rest of our order. The food was already cold and flavorless! We also ordered a pie for dessert and we never got our chocolate cream pie! The WORST service I've ever received at a restaurant. Also, the women's bathroom smelled disgusting, it really made me lose my appetite. And there was no seat covers or toilet paper in the women's restroom! As a restaurant this is absolutely unacceptable. This is not how l expected my family's first time here at Black Bear diner to go, we've always wanted to come and try the breakfast. I've come here with my coworkers for our team meeting a few times and the experience has always been great. Good food and great service.

Came here Sunday it looked busy so we had to wait a bit to be seated. It was only two of us when we finally got seated after about thirty minutes or so, we had to wait another thirty minutes and never even got offer to order a drink or a glass of water. Came to have a late lunch and realized how short staffed they are ! There are only 2 servers on in the whole restaurant and are having to run around during a busy day causing for service to be really slow!! Clearly they are trying their best but the manager or whoever is in charge of scheduling people need to realize they need more servers on site !!
