Came here on Friday, the place was empty but we were greeted and seated pretty much immediately. While ordering someone in my party was a bit confused about the menu and our server Veronica caught an attitude and was pretty rude about it. Then on top of that our food took at least 40 minutes, i mean the place was empty i don't understand why it took so long. Veronica's rude behavior kind of spoiled our experience. Good service Terrible food Ordered the Prime rib and was told right away it was $32 for the plate I went ahead and ordered my prime rib a medium and it came out so dry. It was like they took the slab and put it right in the grill and just sucked out all the tender and juiciness it should have. Terrible terrible ! Hate to admit it but I really wanted my Prime Rib fix so a few days later I went to crazy ottos on avenue I and it was so good, I literally was baffled by the difference. Walked in told them how many people in our group, after a 1/2 hr. They called another group that got there after we did I went up and asked them why they didnt take us in, we'll,they didn't put our name on the list! Went back and told the group, someone said they need a new system, and we agreed and decided to wait a little longer. Asst. manager came to us from in the back and told us the girls behind the counter said we were bashing them, what! We were asked to leave, no one raised their voice no one was bashing, just an assistant manger sitting in the back office with no knowledge of what really took place. I am very disappointed in your Palmdale location. I don't know if it is the staff you are hiring, or lack of or if it's management that is the problem. We walked in yesterday only to be told it would be a 15 minute wait when the majority the restaurant is empty. Once we did get seated, the server was very kind, but took almost 3 minutes to get to our table just to get us our drinks. She was very kind, and professional. However, shame on you for having her, bless her own tables and no manager walking around to help refill drinks or get people set up or clean off tables. The food has always been great, but the wait times really need improvement especially when not busy and you need to see the management out on the floor a little bit more to show their cohesive part of your show. The hostess in the front was just kind of blah, the one rolling the silverware in the napkins , evidently couldn't take somebody's name down on the iPad while the other one was taking somebody to a table, so cross training would be an excellent idea as well. No place to put ur toast except on table paper. Wanted orange juice but not for over $6 a glass, don't care if its hand squeezed! We went on Thanksgiving day and how organized and kind everyone was, AMAZING. Considering how busy they were and they were not in a bad mood it was refreshing. It's 2:05 p m. Wednesday march the 5th. Watching countless customers walking out the front door as the line grows longer. The server"s" are working frantically to take orders, serve food, refill drinks. As I say, server"s" as there's only 1 server, 1 hostess (helping the server) and I can assume maybe 2 cooks at most. The server is doing her best and I completely understand that as my wife and I have worked in the hospitality sector for many years. But whomever is running this place (owner, if franchise) needs to get busy and hire help ASAP. I have been to many black bear diners from the og in lake Shasta, to Vegas to signal hill and service was outstanding. Our extremely large party was in for a softball tournament over Fourth of July weekend. We were having trouble finding a place that could house all of us but finally Black Bear Diner was there for the win! The person who we called to let them know we were coming in gave us the ok but he left for the day. He failed to tell anyone we were coming. Our first experience here we waited an extremely long time to get our orders taken and for our food to arrive, but they were a newer restaurant so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Food was okay. Second time here we were seated quickly but once we got to our table we waited 30 minutes and no one ever came to greet us or take our drink orders. Once I saw they sat another party and immediately took their orders and still ignored us we left to Chelly's Cafe nearby and had a MUCH better experience. Will not be returning to Black Bear Diner. Only went once, and I liked it! I had a California burger and got sweet potato fries. The burger was really great, and the fries were good too. I was there a bit earlier in the day on a Monday, so it wasn't busy. The lady who sat us and then the one who mostly was our waitress were both very nice and just attentive enough, not too much or too little. The food was good, but I would have liked a slightly bigger burger, even just barely slightly, over the amount of fries I got which I wasn't able to finish. I'm usually a guy who can eat all his fries so it's a bit too much if I can't finish it. I noticed when I went they have a B health score grade. Which is funny because Souplantation which was in this same location also had a B. I didn't see why, and nothing seemed dirty or bad but I don't usually go to places that don't receive an A. Overall I'd probably go again but I'm not actively thinking about it. If it sticks around then I'll be in again at some point. read more

(but the more and more I think about, the more grossed out I feel... ) I love their food... but last time we went, I got my drink to go and when I got home I realized that their soda nozzle was inside my to go cup. I spoke to the manager Ryan. He was really nice and apologized and I offered to bring it back the next time. He told me to come see him, and that he would "hook me up"... when I got there he wasn't even working that night lol. I always hit a place twice before giving a review just to be sure that the first time wasn't a fluke. This place sucks: 1. The service is horrible. The whole staff is suffering from memory loss. They never remember anything. 2. The wait time: the last two times we went I there (our party is 5 people ) we have spent more than 2 hours. Went here not too long after they opened. Great food!! Went last night. First thing, we get in and the A/C was so cold I asked cashier to raise it. Too cold to eat comfortably. She did. We were seated. Place very quiet. Not many people, but had to wait....too long I would say. Server was named Kay. Very polite but a disappointment. Didn't have napkins-had to ask.....coffee came later. Wife ordered hot water but it never came-had to ask. The busboy brought napkins after we asked him. Wife ordered slow cooked pot roast with sweet potatoe fries and veggie side. I ordered fried chicken, mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. So, the food review....... The vegetables tasted Lukewarm, the carrots were hard. And my wife's green tasted like they were out of a can. I thought mine were microwaved not cooked. No butter or seasonings to any of it. My wife thought the pot roast meat was dry. My fried chicken was ok. Can't explain why food came only lukewarm. My minestrone soup was ok. My wife took home the sweet potato fries. Warmed it up and said they used same oil to cook fried chicken and she threw it out. We wanted cheesecake but they had lemon or lime, not just plain cheesecake so we passed. My wife paid. I know she left a tip. Ok, but waitress really didn't deserve a good one. Always had to ask for coffee, creamers, whipped butter because the didn't add anything So actually we had high hopes but it was disappointing. I think I'll call their office. Very disappointed! I ordered a bowl of soup with a half tuna sandwich with mayo, letuce and tomato. I was served a cup, not a bowl, like it was offered on the menu, of soup, my sandwich consisted of two pieces of dry white bread. Tuna, very small amount, grilled dry. That's all! I wanted to be polite and try to eat it, was so dry i couldn't choke it down. I sent it back and asked for the correctly made tuna sandwich. I decided, however, to wait awhile until visiting the new Palmdale location to be certain that they worked out all the kinks. We'll, I'm sorry to report that I was extremely disappointed. The staff was pleasant enough but that's not enough to decide on returning. The server never asked how are meals were (all dishes were cold) & never asked if we wanted additional coffee. The server only returned to give us our check. Upon paying, the cashier asked how are meals were & I responded "terrible", to which the cashier said "would you like a copy of the check?". This place is disgusting. The food was terrible. We ordered the meat loaf and it felt like flip flop plastic and even tasted it like it. My sister did not finish her food. My cousin and I ordered the fried chicken with sides. The cornbread was good as was the cup of chili. The chicken was so nasty. The fried part tasted like nothing and the chicken itself was bland flavor wise. We noticed on the way there a homeless man with dogs so we saved the chicken for the doggies. The girl running the register said no they actually weren't but she was the only one running register and seating. So.. we sat and sat. Finally got a both. As we were walking to the booth there were all these tables with dirty dishes throughout the whole restaurant! Tables and tables of them! It took a good 10 minutes before someone asked if we would like drinks. It was 103 that day! We had already sat for at least 20 minutes waiting for a both. 10 minutes to even be asked if we wanted something to drink was way too long. We finally were ordering only to find out they were out of coffee and ice cream. Sounds like McDonald's to me. It took forever for our food to come. My husband subbed Cole slaw for fries. Compared to the massive amount of fries you get with an order his Cole slaw was maybe a cup and warm . On top of slow seating and service it was freezing in there so food got cold very quickly. Then, come to find out they closed at 9 where when we had been in the week before on Friday they closed at 10. We were barely done eating after waiting so long they were dimming the lights! Let me begin by saying their food was full of flavor. I'd given them 5 stars for the flavor. But customer service was completely out the door. We went there on a Friday afternoon and waited to be seated maybe took 15mins. The Hostess Trinidad was super helpful, after she sat us she was talking to my youngest son who was enthralled with her in conversation, her smile was appreciated. As it was our first time there she explained the menus and the Bear News on the front page, she smiled and informed us our waiter would be with us shortly. As we sit look over the menu, 15mins go by and no waiter had greeted us, no one had taken our drink order, other people had sat down afterwards and their waiter was greeting them within minutes. Trinidad our hostess was finishing up sitting other customers when we informed her that no one has stopped by since she left the table. She quickly went to tell the waiter who showed up and apologized for the delay. Leo was kind, and he was learning the menu as we were too, he suggested a couple menu adjustments and we appreciated the suggestions, the floor manager Noel stopped Leo in the middle of him taking our order to tell Leo that we were his last table before he was "cut", Leo agreed and continued with taking our order, and the moment Leo didnt know the answer to our question he asked his coworker Michelle she assisted in finalizing our order. Leo mentioned to Michelle that we were his last table they joked around and then Michelle told us she would be taking over as our waitress. They leave and we wait another 15mins and no drinks come to our table, my husband gets up and goes to the waiter/drink station where Michelle was and asked hey do we get our own drinks? She apologized and immediately got Leo to get us our drinks. Leo apologized and said he thought Michelle was going to be our waitress! We finally get our food, brought by another waitress, followed by Michelle, my husband's fries were cold and old. He immediately asked to get a fresh order of fries. We also asked for an order of onion rings we were told they would check as they were out of onion rings the day before. Michelle brought us our onion rings. Leo checked on our drinks and we asked for a Pepsi refill were told they ran out of Pepsi, we requested something else. By this time we were just thankful our food was good. The floor manager Noel came to us and apologized for the confusion, offering a cake compensation for the horrible experience. My husband at this time got the new order of fries and again were cold, asked the manager to feel the fries he replied I'm not allowed to touch the food. We also mentioned there was no more pepsi and they ran out he had no idea. My husband asked the manager for a order of onion rings as those seem to come out fresh and hot. [Wait for it] Michelle came by and refilled our drinks, and asked if we needed anything else my husband told him he told the manager about the cold fries and he would be getting onion rings Michelle said no one told her, but she would check on it. As we were finishing up our meal, we noticed another party in the booth across from us were complaining of cold fries as well. ‍ I mean at least it was crappy across the board. Leo came up to our table and told us that it wasn't his fault that they ran out of Pepsi, we told him we never blamed him for running out of Pepsi we understand that sometimes things run out. We asked for boxes and packed up our leftovers. **No onion rings ever came back to the table.** My husband and I were just floored of how consistently inconsistent they all were even after the issues were brought up to the manager. We got up from the table took our receipt to pay. My husband stopped by the booth that were having the similar problem and they were sharing how incredibly flabbergasted they were with the service. THE RESTAURANT was not even busy for people to get lost like this. The gentleman that was at the table said he was asked to pay at the table. He was floored and said no one ever asked him to pay at the table. I found the floor manager and told him if and when the onion rings come out to keep them as we never received them. He stared at me in shock . Apologized. He then turned around and started to berate Leo! Poor Leo he didn't even know about the onion rings. I hope they get their customer service together, communicate with their staff and eachother on which tables are theirs to attend, and to keep an eye for new arriving customers. I was extremely excited to try this place after seeing some posts online and my friends couldn't stop talking about the 1 in Las Vegas; decided to try it today since they opened up in Palmdale. There was an issue with our seating. A number was provided to receive notification but we were never notified. The hostess was also calling out names and we weren't mentioned. Finally, after waiting over 50min and seeing that new groups were being seated before us, I had asked 1 of the hostess' about our place. We were told that 4 groups were ahead of us, it didn't make sense so I asked another Hostess and she had mentioned that we were already notified via text message. The message was never received, but when we asked why she didn't call out the name like they were doing for everyone else, she responded with "I sent out the text, that should have been sufficient". I guess even if it's a technological or human error, an apology or understanding is out of the question and your wrong for asking what's going on. Our waiter was really friendly, but I think he thought that the friendliness meant he couldn't necessarily wait on us properly..... our orders arrived, but without the condiments requested and despite asking for them again, they never arrived. No coffee refills, had to ask another server because our waiter was no where to be seen. When he was finally spotted, he was just chatting away despite making eye contact; we had to send my daughter to flag him down. I requested a refill, and 25 min later I just received the check. Refill never came.... So much for bottomless coffee and soda. The food was ok. My burger meat was actually nice and juicy, no complaints about it. I just would have enjoyed it more if l wasn't thirsty and have the sauce I requested. I will say, the biscuits and gravely have too much salt.... and that's hard for me to say because I love biscuits and gravy. I'm big on first impressions, and sadly I won't be returning. My chicken pot pie was too hot to touch and the vegetables on the side were cold to the touch. Our waitress walked past us eight times before she even acknowledged us sitting there for 15 minutes.
