I am not the biggest breakfast person but I love this place! They have such a wide variety of options to choose from. I personally love their chicken tenders. I order it with a side of gravy and mix in Mama's sauce. The tenders also come with a side of bacon ranch or buffalo sauce if you prefer that instead. My husband's go-to meal here is the Hobo omelette and adds mushrooms and spinach to it. This is a HUGE portion. I believe it also comes with a side and with either a pancake or a biscuit. Ordered a 2-omelette Shasta Veggie Scramble with no sides because I wasn't in the mood for a side and bread. It had cut up veggies and cheese and it actually wasn't bad. I had read some reviewers stating that the food was bland, but my guess is because they are so used to very seasoned/salty foods. I, however, eat fairly healthy and rarely eat out so this was actually not too bad. It wasn't salty and within my ballpark of what I would normally eat at home. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals as well with one having bacon and hash browns, others having eggs with cheese, and pancakes. They had also stated that the coffee was delicious. The waitress was very nice and helpful. The inside of the restaurant is what you would expect from a diner. Not overly decorated, but seating was comfortable. The restaurant also has a shop where you can purchase stuffed bears and desserts, such as cream pies. I was tempted to try one, but thought maybe at another time. I had breakfast there this morning Saturday July 11th. Everything was just perfect. The eggs were perfect. The sausage was perfect. The hash browns were wonderful and the toast was just right. The price was more than fair and the people were very accommodating. I don't eat breakfast out very often because most places your eggs come out cold. Your pancakes are cold. It takes forever to get your order. But this morning everything went perfectly. I probably won't eat breakfast out very often anyway because I'm on a fixed income and I can only afford it once in awhile. However, whenever I can I will come back to this place to have a breakfast as good as I had today. read more

Lunch & Dinner: Large portions. Food is typical chain "home style" cooking. Except the home is not grandma's, but the family member that likes to cook, but never got that good at it. It's okay, everyone will eat it, but nobody minds when they don't bring a dish. Icebox pies have a LOT of whipped cream compared to the pie filling, which might not be a bad thing. What a cute lil diner. I love that the menu is a newspaper that apparently updates, staff were very friendly and attentive and food was great overall. I enjoyed my meatloaf and they had an option for a dinner size or lunch size, but the waitress was kind enough to inform me that if I wanted a cup of soup I might as well get dinner, so I did. They do soup of the day which I find really fun, today's soup was tomato I greatly enjoyed each bite. Onions were good and I was able to substitute my potatoes for hash browns cause I was feeling it. My friend even got to sub his soup of the day for chili. Very friendly and accommodating on how you want to order/eat. Overall would def come again to try other stuff on the menu! P.S. Breakfast is the best meal of the day in my opinion. When I get a breakfast invite, I always jump on that chance. This Sunday morning meal happened at this location in Pasa-get down-dena! I underestimated the breakfast crowd and was met with quite a few people waiting inside and out. Luckily, they are a well oiled machine here and get people in and out quickly. Our wait wasn't bad at all. Customer service was pretty good. Our waitress was lovely. It was busy, so there was times where we had to wait for things. No biggie when in good company. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner here and I believe you can get anything on the menu all day long. The menu comes out in what looks like a newspaper. Make sure and pack them glasses because the print is small. I came for breakfast and focused on that menu. I was packing an appetite and the Grizz breakfast caught my attention. This breakfast came with 2 sweet cream pancakes, 2 slices of thick cut bacon, 2 sausage links (I substituted for their spicy, homemade Italian sausage), smoked ham steak, 3 eggs and hashbrowns. The pancakes were really good. The sweet cream gave it a nice sweet touch and I barely had to use any syrup with it. All the proteins were thick cut and hearty. The Italian sausage was a nice substitute from your normal breakfast proteins. My eggs were slightly overcooked so I didn't get the runny yolk I like. I washed it all down with vanilla cold brew which basically looked like milk. A little more coffee forward would have made it perfect. Black Bear is definitely a notch up compared to some of the other national diner chains. I will be back. read more

The lunch and the breakfast is amazingggg here! I've been here several times and they always do an excellent job at what they do. The servers are always nice and the food is always good. We came in on Saturday morning and the place was packed. There was a 25 minute so we opted to eat outside. Our server, Kim, was pleasant and attentive. Although the restaurant was packed it was not too loud walking through to the outside dining room. The portions were large and we couldn't eat all of our food. The biscuit itself was a meal! We have been here for breakfast and it was good. We stopped by for dinner and the food was pretty sad. We ordered the chicken fried steak, chicken strips, and kids chicken Alfredo. The chicken fried steak had ground beef texture with a really hard coating. The chicken Alfredo was dry and the noodles looked and felt old. The chicken fried steak came with a house salad and that should have been an indicator of how the rest of the food would be. It was missing all the regular "house salad" stuff. Place was pretty lonely, I thought this would be a good thing because mornings are always so busy. Now we know. Come for breakfast but nothing else. Busy place day after Christmas poor place was a wee bit under staffed but the host and the server were very nice. We arrived had to wait a bit to be greeted by the host, he was super apologetic and sat us shortly after popping up. Our waitress also took several minutes to come to the table but she too was polite and once we ordered our beverages by the time she got back we were ready to order. Never had I ever had avocado on my eggs, but the California Omelette was delicious. My husband had the Meat lover's omelette and he said it was a lot. Food was very good. We stayed long enough to get fed and have some coffee. Didn't want to keep the table long as they started to get very busy. It is a stand alone building that has like a wilderness rustic aesthetic to it. Pleasantly surprised that the menu is in a newspaper format. There were lots of menu items to choose from. It didn't take me long to realize that I wanted pancakes for sure. So I chose the grizzly. It consisted of 3 eggs your way, hashbrowns, ham, sausage, bacon and a stack of 2 sweet cream pancakes. Was looking for the blueberry option on it but the waitress said they don't carry it. I also got their bottomless coffee and they give you lots of creamer to compliment it. The portioning was more than enough which was great. The food did come out fresh and hot! We took the kids to Black bear a bit ago when one was craving eggs and the other pancakes - we didn't feel like cooking and wanted something different than the Denny's or ihop in the area that I haven't been to in years. I looked up reviews for places nearby and came across this place just a hair north of clear lake into Pasadena. I thought the food was all pretty reasonable quality, the wrap was excellent, hash browns maybe a bit oily and unevenly cooked, pancake my youngest ate a little of, but thats just kind of how he is, and the corn bread muffin was tasty but a bit heavy. I mean look I admit I can be picky with food, I think I would come back again for diner food, it's just not usually what I crave so I'm definitely biased here! We always eat out on Sunday's after church. Black Bear Diner in Pasadena has been added to our restaurant rotation. There are usually 6 or 7 of us and they are able to accommodate us comfortably. Their menu selection meets everyone's tastes from breakfast for lunch, to small or large portions of the chicken fried steak. The wait staff is always friendly and willing to serve. One of our group recently had a personal issue while at lunch and Bridget jumped right in to help without being asked.
