Went for dinner staying at a close hotel. Was pretty inedible. We had the pot roast and the open faced turkey "sandwich". Pot roast was dry and had little flavor. Broccoli was the best part..which I ate most of. I had the turkey. Was layers of deli meat. Dry, preformed...not good. Gravy was from a mix. Mashed potatoes were ok....hard to mess those up. But we left most of it on the plate. Sad when broccoli is the best part of the meal. Please do yourself a favor and dont eat here.....or just stick to the breakfast menu. That is ok. read more

Server was amazing!!! Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. I couldn't eat the green beans or gravy because it was way too salty. Oh! My! Gosh!! I LOVE this place!! And particularly our waiter, Andy!! Andy took care of our entire school faculty (over 40 people), single handed. We visited Monday 8/19/24. The staff was friendly but the wait time was beyond unreasonable. We were seated immediately but it was at least a half hour before anyone came to our table. One party left before a member of the staff took their orders. We were on the verge of leaving but the waiter finally took our order. Our drinks took forever to arrive and our food was also slow, incorrect and one of our party waited about five additional minutes for their food to arrive. Being polite, we waited until all of the food arrived and our food was no longer hot. It was between six and seven pm. The place was relatively clean except the women's handicap stall. We were very disappointed. We know the kids working the place aren't responsible for staffing it but someone needed to have adequate staff to serve six or seven tables. read more

We were promptly seated and was told Megan would be our waitress. She came over sat down and took our order. My husband ordered Denver omelet with sourdough toast, I ordered a western burger. She left and came back with the toast and pointed to the corner of our long booth and said, there's the butter. She started to walk away, then turned and asked if we wanted her to reach for the butter, I said yes. we buttered the toast while it was hot. Then sat and waited. The omelet sat on the ledge for a while, then the burger finally was out on the ledge. When we finally got our meal, toast was cold, omelet warm and hamburger warm. I was not impressed. When she brought my husband another drink, she made a comment about how much catsup he was using, and when I was done she brought the check and made a comment about me finishing my burger, said boy you must have been hungry. I ordered the burger with coleslaw, now I'm feeling like she was judging me! I've never written a bad review until today. While waiting for our food, a young girl from the kitchen was by the beverages, she put her middle finger up to one of the waitresses, and held it up all the way back to the kitchen. They only had a select number of options because they couldn't decide on what to do for the menu which was only like 10 options. It's very confusing and they don't even have half of the items that they say are available on the menu. Their options also don't offer as much food as they usually do. Overall this experience is a 1 star for not having enough food options. Also this is all happening Christmas morning. Real bummer. read more

A great breakfast place and I love their waffles! They were super understaffed but Andy did a great job handling all of the tables! Emily the manager was also helping out as much as she could! Thank you for all your hard work! On another note there was a group of other staff who did nothing to help out their own team. Coffees and drinks were unfilled. People attempted to flag the other staff just standing without any due regard given. Additionally, being on your phone while people are attempting to get assistance. There is a distinct difference between team and lazy coworkers who should really evaluate how they contribute. Times are tough for many and people pay good money to come to places such as this. Black bear is pretty consistent with service and food. You won't find it with the local 'town flair' of an independent greasy spoon but an upgrade to the national chains like Denny's, IHOP, etc. good food at a fair price and good ambiance. The best thing about Black Bear Diner is that their portion sizes are insane! They'll feed you enough for 3 days. This place can be a really great choice when you need to carbo load or just satisfy some serious hunger. Honestly it's pretty great. That being said, this was not a good visit for me. I got The Grizz and the bacon, freshly squeezed orange juice, and hash browns were phenomenal. Unfortunately, everything else was really bad. The eggs were cold, overcooked, and had the texture of dry chicken that was left sitting for a bit. The pancakes were like grain-flavored cardboard. No amount of syrup could save me from that taste. It was pretty unfortunate. The ham and sausage were decent but nothing to write about. Our server was awesome. Really personable and helpful. They also have so many tables inside so don't be turned away if it looks really busy. The food is usually better than what I experienced this time around but overall it's not the best tasting breakfast out there. read more

For me this place is more of a novelty. The food isn't bad - it's heavy. Our waitress was stellar and the place was nice and clean. The menus were paper and tattered - a little icky for me since I have no idea who's hands were on them before mine. No gluten free options - had basic fried eggs, grits and hash browns. There isn't anything unique or special in my mind about this place except maybe the giant biscuits. They looked delicious. Lots of parking and easy to find. read more

Came to Black Bear Diner for breakfast during our trip to Utah. We have one back home and Texas but I had never gone to one. The portions are HUGE!!! The flavor is bold! And the variety is well rounded. My group of 4 all ordered 4 different meals and shared because it was all so good. Make sure you go hungry because the portions are enough for 2. We had plenty of left overs for later. I loved everything and it made for an awesome breakfast that filed us through our upcoming hikes. read more

We stopped in here for a late breakfast while in the St. George area. It was a Monday and around 11.30 am, and the place was very busy. It took a while for the server to get to us, but we ordered, and the food came out relatively quickly. I ordered the 8oz smoked brisket with 2 poached eggs. This also came with cheesy grits, a massive side of hashed browns and a pancake larger than my face. They serve warm maple syrup and that was really good. The portion sizes here are definitely on the bigger side, so make sure to be hungry or to take some home with you. My friend ordered three pancakes and that was too much to finish, and his wife ordered the club sandwich and that was also really big. Food was really tasty too, and so if we're back in this area this will be our top pick for breakfast. Parking is very convenient. read more

I usually love this place, but waitress ruined it for us, (you know who you are, remember us, the 3 women with the 17 month old baby, we won't forget you). Great job on making your customers feel comfortable! On April 22, 2021 about 9 am our waitress looked like she was either being trained or was trying to set an example and was training the person shadowing her. She asked for my order and I told her I needed to order off the menu and I wanted fried potatoes and to add any vegetables that the cook could to those potatoes. She just stared at me, and after 15 seconds of telling her what I wanted on the potatoes I realized she wasn't writing anything down and was staring at me with disgust on her face! I stopped talking and she says to me, "I don't have any idea what your talking about. I'm so confused to what your telling me". Not only was my family and I embarrassed and stunned by her over zealous reaction of disgust, but her co worker wanted to hide under a table by the look on her face. My daughter had to tell the waitress that we all have food allergies and can't order right off the menu. The waitress went on about how confused she was and that NOW she gets it, never once apologizing for her horrible reaction, or that she made such a big deal about it and that EVERY table near us stopped conversing and was listening to this waitress rant on us. My family wanted to get up and walk out, but all the customers near us were watching how all this was going to turn out and we were embarrassed by her behavior and couldn't move after being verbally attacked. I believe this waitress is incapable of working with customers, some people aren't cut out for customer service and she's definitely one of them. After this incident happened, she was standing at the counter and blatantly talking about the bad reviews she was getting online and was laughing about it to her co workers...well I certainly agree with those other reviewers! read more

Avoid this place for dinner. I would give them no stars if that was a choice, Went there last night for dinner for the first time and had a horrible experience. First, they were out of shrimp and said it was being removed from the menu. Strange since there are more than 8 items on the menu that include shrimp. Second, they were out of the daily soup. Strange since the waitress told me this was their daily soup choice. Third, all 4 of our meals were horrible. Two of us had the ribs which were smothered in BBQ sauce and nothing but pure grizzle. The burger and sandwich were both extremely forgettable. When the waitress asked how our meals were, we were honest with her. When she brought the bill to us, they had given us $10 off a $100 bill. I found this less than satisfactory for a horrible dinner experience for 4 people. If that wasn't enough, at check out we ordered the mini banana cream pie. Upon getting home and digging into the whip cream filled "pie", we determined it wasn't a banana pie at all. It was some gooey banana and graham cracker crumb mess hidden with a ton of whip cream on top. Disgusting! Avoid this place at all cost for dinner. read more
