On a road trip and this was by the hotel. We like dies so gave it a try. I wish I could remember the name of the server but she was great. My wife had a Buber and I tried the rack salad. Per our servers suggestion I also got ranch on the side and my wife got fries sauce. Food came out in a timely manner well presented and generous portions. My wife loved the burger, so big she took half the burger and fries home for lunch tomorrow. The taco salad was excellent. Plenty of everything, couldn't finish it and I am a big eater! I personally am not a fan. I had the broccoli cheese soup and the garden salad. The broccoli cheese was so bland and tasted like a horrible packet soup mixed with water and heated up in the microwave. My salad was so so and the ranch was also bland and really thick like a dipping ranch. The newspaper like menu was cute. And the cups and mugs are cute. The service was weird. The employees talk about anything and everything right near you and there were things that probably should have been discussed out of earshot of the customers. Traveling thru Northern Utah. Stopped in Woods Cross. Saw Black Bear Diner. After checking in to our Hotel, decided to place an online order. Ordered a Chicken Pot Pie. The picture showed the pie, and broccoli, with one additional side. We chose a baked potato. I then drove to the restaurant to take delivery. It was already 20 minutes, then after waiting 15 minutes, I asked if my single item was ready. I was told that they were waiting for the potato to be done. After another 5 minutes, they said that they were out of potatoes, so I chose green beans. When I got back to the room, opened the bag, NO plastic cutlery, no napkins. Keep in mind, I'm at a hotel. Fortunately the front desk had what I needed. The food itself was just ok. Very disappointed for my first experience with Black Bear. Friends have told me that Black Bear is known for their Breakfast. Maybe I will try them in the future for breakfast. read more

My friend Alyssa and I have made it a tradition to go to our friend Josh's musicals, but we try and get dinner beforehand. We were in the mood for burgers close to Centerville, so we opted for BBD since neither of us had been before (okay maybe I went once in California, but that was yearssssss ago). We got there at just the right time, so it wasn't busy at all. The vibe was definitely log cabin/woodsy feel with Bear decorations everywhere. I loved it! They even had Bear apparel and items/products to buy near the registers. Both my friend and I were so hungry we ended up ordering some of the bigger burgers. Stopped in for a quick breakfast bite before flying. The area was decorated with bears all over and very nicely done. Greeted by the host and waitress with smiles. They took my order and it was pretty seamless. Didn't take long to get to my booth. I had the eggs Benedict. It was ok. The white was a little undercooked and English muffin was soaked and not crunchy. The hollandaise was a little too buttery and lacked some flavor. My early morning visit (around 6:30 am) was met with fast service and decent breakfast! I enjoyed my bacon and hash browns, but I will say the scrambled eggs and pancakes were a bit off. I usually get the Bear Choice breakfast, They have great Bacon here, I just wish they'd serve my Eggs/Bacon on a separate plate from my pancakes. I don't really care for syrup mixed with eggs. An amazing diner breakfast to start a long road trip. We stopped by on a Sunday morning, and it was relatively quiet at the time. We had the vegetarian omelette and the bear's choice with French toast, bacon and eggs. Food was wonderful, and the server, Maria was friendly and efficient. Customer service: I appreciate the waitress acknowledging us and making sure things are going fine. However, she was slow despite the lack of customers and shows that she doesn't care about her job. Never introduced herself and only comes by if she thinks we're almost through. Food: It was unappetizing. I ordered smoked brisket and in the menu, I was promised that it would be a melt-in-your-mouth experience. It tasted weird and dry. Who writes the menu? Veggies are bland. Literally, no seasoning. Cornbread muffin is way too crumbly and the only one I can tolerate are fries. Place: There weren't a lot of customers, and like I said, waitresses are slow. In the front desk, there were toothpicks scattered on the floor. Almost slipped and then the waitress said, "Oh, I'll get it." Seriously? Decor: Cute and uniformed design. They have bear theme all over the place. I guess it's the only nice touch in the diner. All in all. I wouldn't recommend eating here. There are other Black Bear Diners you can go to. Terrible service and the restaurant was extremely dirty. We love Black Bear dinners when we lived in the Seattle area. I don't know what is wrong with the ones in Salt Lake? The cook at this location simply didn't feel like cooking half the menu and he got away with it! The poor servers looked frustrated as they made excuses for the bad employee on the cook line. As I was seated, Jessica, my waiter, Jessica, greeted me with utmost professional happiness. Breakfast here will eat up more of your time than any other place in town, which is so different from the usually excellent black Bear experience. I have wanted to try a Black Bear Diner since I moved to UT and never made it to one since the locations were always too far from our house. So I was excited to see when they built this location here in Woods Cross. My husband and I were out for breakfast on our anniversary and decided to try it out. I love the old country feel of the decor, the carved Bear statues, the carved and wood burned chairs at the counter, and all the little kitchy things around the diner. A bit of a wait when we walked in even though there were plenty of tables open (short on servers) so we opted to sit at the counter to not have to wait. A bit odd we were handed the menus to take to the counter ourselves but that may only be the protocol with counter seats not when getting seated at a table. The menus are newspapers with stories on the front and back and the food items in the middle 2 pages. A wealth of options for breakfast lunch and dinner. (I did however find several grammatical errors as well as differences between calories listed on my menu vs my husband's but I'm an editing person and notice things like that easily). I ordered the Shasta scramble with hash browns and biscuit, and my hubby ordered the Bear's choice (2 eggs, French toast and a slice of ham). My portion was massive. The food covered the entire plate and the biscuit itself was huge! I appreciated the fact that they didn't skimp on the avocado in my dish (most places give you two or three slices, but the whole scramble was loaded with fresh chunks). The eggs were cooked well and cheese melted just right. The hash browns are thin strips of shredded potatoes (not like the usual grated variety) and it was a great mix of crispy and soft pieces. The biscuit was thick and rich and went great with some butter and marmalade. The only thing that would have made it better was if there was fresh made jam. The French toast was made from sourdough and had cinnamon sugar in the batter. The sour gave it a different flavor than what the hubby is used to but he still enjoyed it. The ham was a thick slice and he said the eggs he ordered over easy were cooked perfectly. His plate portions were not as massive as mine so he was able to eat the whole thing and I took half my meal home. I am excited to have a place open on both Saturdays and Sundays since there are so few options for breakfast on the weekends here. My first visit to this location on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area. It is constant with the look and feel of other locations I have visited. I ordered the cheeseburger salad. It was served quickly. The burger was severely over cooked. Next time I will specify medium grill. And I might ask for double meat. I ran out of it way before I ran out of lettuce. Then we never had anyone return to give us water or take our order. We left after waiting several minutes and after being blatantly ignored and passed several times. We were not even acknowledged. The service was absolutely the worst I've ever had. The deliberate indifference was too ridiculous not to leave a bad review in hopes someone who can make a difference there reads it and fixes the terrible behavior of the employees there. Decided to try a new place for breakfast. It wasn't anything special and I'm not sure I'd go back. Here's a rundown on things: Service: Our server was polite and attentive but not overly personable. The server next to our table was a bit over the top. I think somewhere between these two would be a perfect mix. Food: Our food was served in a timely manner and cooked as ordered. I had the corned beef hash with eggs over medium and a pancake. The hash was really oily and lacked the depth of flavor I want from this type of dish. The eggs were cooked as ordered but didn't really have any flavor and almost tasted watery. The hasbrowns has a nice crisp to them but again lacked flavor. The pancake had a weirdly sweet taste to it. I did not taste any notes that would indicate it had buttermilk in it as advertised. He got an omelette (changed last minute which one due to lack of avocados on the one he originally wanted) with hash browns and an English muffin. I didn't try his omelette but it looked ok. The English muffin wasn't toasted, just served out of the package. A major loss here as a simple toast imparts so much! The food was lackluster, the atmosphere just ok. I did enjoy reading the old newspaper articles on the menu though. I'd opt for one of the more local breakfast spots if you're in the area. read more
