It is by far what I miss most since moving to Sarasota Florida. Black Crow Brick Oven Bread has yet to be duplicated in the last 20 years.

We opted for the freshly baked ham and cheese croissants they were still hot! They were insanely buttery. I think the bake on the croissants is a bit light and could be in the oven a bit longer. The shop is little, cute and tidy. Service was warm and efficient

There are no wrong choices here as long as you like buttery, melt-in-your-mouth pastry. 'It's like eating a cloud'' says wife. They rotate flavors daily with something new to try and they label the choices, usually a dozen or so in the display case. A nice touch that keeps the line moving. Baguettes and sourdough boules are available most days. They also have tasty looking breakfast sandwiches sometimes made from croissants. Favorites include almond croissant, lemon cruffin (croissant-muffin hybrid), plum custard and walnut rye bread. The bakery opened in May after much anticipation from the locals. Located in a granite block building in the space of former Dom's barbershop, a long-time Hallowell fixture. It gets very busy on Saturdays with a line forming down street. The line moves quickly though and it's worth the weight. Cordon Bleu-trained owner/baker is from Ukraine.

Not to mention, I was so tempted to order all the lovely baked goods and treats. They looked amazing. The seating was super accessible and expansive, and everyone here was super welcoming and hospitable. I hope to be back next time I am in time for a sweet treat! The cookies looked amazing.

I walked in thinking I'd order something simple, but Jocelyn somehow anticipated exactly what I wanted before I even said it -- an oatmeal latte with honey infused right into the espresso. It was warm, silky, lightly sweet, and honestly one of the most thoughtful, dialed‑in drinks I've had anywhere. You can tell when someone really knows their craft, and she absolutely does. We also grabbed the curried chicken sandwich, which was fresh, flavorful, and the perfect balance of creamy and bright. It's the kind of sandwich that makes you pause mid‑bite and go, "Wait... this is really good." The whole place has that cozy‑local‑favorite energy -- friendly staff, great food, and the kind of coffee that makes you want to reroute your trip just to come back again. If you're driving through Freeport, Camden, or anywhere along the coast, Wild Oats is 100% worth the detour.
