We really wanted to like this place as it was so close to our air B&B. We arrived just before 6. It was very busy but were seated immediately. The staff was extremely friendly. It seems they do a great deal of takeout on a Saturday night and that slowed the food service down for visiting patrons. They did have a great tap list so it wasn't that big of a deal. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer which took at least 30 minutes to come out. As far as the poutine it was mediocre. I ordered the brisket which was dry in some spots and way too salty. Once again it was just mediocre for a barbecue joint. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich which was nothing special. All in all it was not a memorable meal. The best authentic bbq in Vermont. All the menu items including the cocktails are prepared to the highest standard. Excellent quality all around. The rack of ribs which are truly just as good as anything in Tennessee are a must try. The setting is cozy yet, tasteful. I highly recommend this to anybody in the Stowe/Morristown area. I was in the "downtown" area looking for a place to eat, and somehow Black Diamond Barbeque showed up. Did not disappoint. I know ingredients, especially meat, are crazy expensive right now, so the higher-than-I-expected price was perhaps justified. Great food (ribs for me), great beer selection (you can't swing a dead cat in Vermont without hitting a local brewery), and the ribs were delicious. They don't inform you on the menu, but meats are available "deli" (I have no idea what this means). Meaning, you can buy by the pound to take out. That's how I had my full rack of ribs. Would have been a better choice to take the full rack dinner, which is almost the same price but comes with a bunch of sides. If you're in the area, definitely worth the trip! read more

The BBQ was tasty but the servings were surprisingly small - my smoked turkey "platter" was a sandwich with a side of cole slaw, and neither very large. Bottles & cans almost 100% bitter as well, with just the token Allagash White providing relief from the hops! We had margaritas. Caveats: Portions small for a BBQ place, but there's not necessarily anything wrong with that, just be prepared. Prices high, but there's not necessarily anything wrong with that when the quality is there, which it is. I absolutely love snowboarding and my girlfriend got interested in skiing recently, the fire I decided it would be great for us to take a Valentine's Day weekend trip to VT. We ended up staying at a house not too far from Stowe mountain and all the locals recommended Black Diamond BBQ. We got so many recommendations we couldn't pass up the opportunity. After arriving at the house and having some drinks we decided to walk over to the restaurant and it was pretty busy. Looked like almost all the tables were full but we ended up getting one. The venue isn't the largest since it takes place in an older home but it has a great vibe to it. I ended up ordering the pulled pork sandwich with some extra vegetables on it and I absolutely loved it. I loved it so much it didn't even last five minutes. My girlfriend got the vegan sandwich and I really enjoyed the bite I took out of it as well. Since both things we ordered off the menu was really good, I don't see why everything else wouldn't be. We are also big craft beer drinkers and their IPA's and other brews were excellent. I have to say, if you're anywhere in the area even if this spot is out of the way, it's worth the trip. read more

Passing through we discovered Black Diamond and decided we had to try it. We love BBQ but being from NC we weren't sure how we would like New England bbq. The atmosphere is small town pub and very loud!! All tables were full and our food took awhile to arrive. I ordered the smoked turkey. It was several thick slices with their sauce poured over top. The turkey had a good crust and noticeable smoke flavor. The sauce was tangy and I liked it but I prefer turkey without sauce. My husbands pulled pork sandwich was good and the same sauce was even better on the pork. My daughter had the smoked wings with no sauce or rub. They are smoked and then deep fried so very crunchy. I think they would have been much better with the dry rub or sauce on them. This place is worth trying and we would definitely return on another trip to the area. read more

We discovered Black Diamond last year on our trip to Vermont. So despite the Covid-19 restrictions, we wanted to return. The food was great. My son's girlfriend, who went to school in Texas & claims to be a barbeque expert, loved the pulled pork and the mac and cheese. The brisket was also a hit, as we're the cocktails. My ribs were kind of sloppy -- overcooked to the point of being mushy and swimming in sauce. The curbside service was excellent. We pulled up, and while still digging for a phone to call, a server came to the car to get our name and brought the order right out. My big whine about the experience was the ordering process. Concerned that they might run out of ribs, I ordered them first thing in the morning, expecting to figure out what everyone else wanted that afternoon. Shortly after placing the rib order, I received a notification from my credit card company of a potentially fraudulent charge from an unidentified company in Rhode Island. I wasn't in Rhode Island, so I confirmed that it was an unauthorized charge, cancelled the card and jumped through the hoops necessary to get them to send me a replacement at a vacation rental address. That afternoon, when we placed the rest of the order, it happened again. This time, recognizing that it must be an order processing fee, I approved the charge. I've held off writing about this, despite being very angry about how disruptive this will be having to change pre-authorization with so many vendors that automatically charge my credit card for monthly subscriptions, because I thought it might be me. Until I received an order confirmation email from another restaurant that included not only the amount of the processing fee, but also the name under which it would be charged to my card. I had a special event coming up and had previously tasted the BBQ from Black diamond BBQ at another catered event and thought that it might be a good fit for what I had in mind so my wife and I went to the restaurant to 'taste test' the food.  we both got enough variety of plates to taste most of what we were interested in and the food 'in-house' did not disappoint! so fast forward a couple weeks to this last weekend, the 'event'....I got in touch with Jason by email and he made it very easy to plan what items we needed and how much.  I opted to pick it up myself, but I know from past experience, they will deliver, set up, bring EVERYTHING needed and clear down as if they weren't even there and leave all left-overs in easy to take home containers. Now, on to the quality of food... I opted to get Ribs, Brisket and smoked turkey....(they also provided dinner rolls in case someone wanted to make sandwiches, they were like Kings Hawaiian rolls, only better, they also provided a vat of BBQ sauce made in-house and a vat of horseradish cream sauce to go along with the meats) The ribs were tender, still had a little 'chew' to them which I like, not quite fall-off-the-bone but very close.  Flavorful and still moist, perfect!  They had a bit of sauce in the pan, but not swimming in it, which is what I prefer. The brisket was very tender and full of flavor, had a nice smoke to it.  Everyone at the party commented on how they liked the brisket. Lastly but not least...the smoked Turkey...man, it was juicy, had nice smoke on it, and oh so tasty!  I've done a LOT of BBQ and smoked meats over the years, but I would have to say that this was my favorite and I'm really a brisket kind of guy.  You know when you cook turkey at home, it's hard to get it right, not dry it out...well the folks at Black Diamond BBQ have it figured out!   Brad at the restaurant met me on a Sunday morning for pick up and was happy to load up my vehicle and give me a few 'tips and pointers' ...all in all, it was a hit and I would certainly recommend this to ANYONE looking to either eat out at their restaurant or have a catered event, they make it happen. You open the door to a wall of noise, but it's cheerful and happy noise. Brisket was quite good, in a style new to us. Pickles and coleslaw were the sides, and asking for more of the house BBQ sauce caused no issues at all. The desserts look sinfully good, but we didn't partake. Darn! read more

Food here is excellent. The menu has many options for those that do not want barbeque. Great beer list and plenty of tasty cocktails. Very large portions great for sharing. The tables are pretty small for how large the platters are. Which can make it a messy experience with a larger party. The waiter didn't seem to notice that empty glasses kept piling up on the table either and didn't remove them to help clear space. When we went the bar was very slow. Our appetizers came out before the cocktails we ordered at the same time. Overall a good meal but the staff could be a little more attentive. read more

We really enjoyed Black Diamond BBQ. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming. Very hip with the times but all age appropriate. My fiancé and I split the three meat combo platter!! It was great, a taste of everything and plenty of it. The platter came with a side of homemade mac and cheese and pickled veggies. Everything was amazing. Full of flavor, not dried out and not to smoke flavored(which is what I like from BBQ) On top of good food they had a great list of local craft beers and an awesome whiskey selection. I went once on a day off from Backpacking the Long Trail and adored everything about it. Ribs were perfect cooked, coming easily off the bone (not falling off the bone), with maybe a little too much sauce to my taste, but scrumptious none the less. As a fan of Vermont craft beer, I loved the beer list with very local beers on tap, but a variety of brews from Hill Farmstead as well. The sides were flavorful and imaginative. I came back a year later, curious to see the food really was that good, or if a backpacker's ravenous appetite lead me to over-rate the food. The food and the beer list were equally impressive and the 3 others who came with me were enraptured as well. The beer list remains excellent and made me happy I could let someone else drive. To top it off a Moose wandered about nearby before running for cover. I learned a bear had shown up earlier in the month. Morrisville is a short drive up from Stowe and well worth a visit if you are anywhere nearby. Lost Nation brewery and Rock Art are both nearby. read more

Whenever we vacation we look for the good BBQ. I really would give this place 3.5 stars but it doesn't allow so I up'd it to 4. So... let me start by saying it's a little pricey but the food we got was very good. I had the maple habanero wings while my wife had a combo of dry rub/bbq wings. They were smoked first so they tasted great. They weren't the largest wings (there's a wing spot in North Jersey that are downright huge!) but they are good sized. My real issue would be with the service. Though it's apparent it was just the one we had. She did the job but I had to seek her out twice. The hostess came by once and refilled my wife's water on her own. My biggest pet peeve is that I should never have to ask for a refill. Servers should be watching and checking. I was looking around for my server again but I guess the bartender was watching because she just came over with a new drink for me. So, mostly, the service here is on point. We extended our stay in Morrisville by a day to comeback here. The food is that good and the cocktails are even better. Brian the bartender has come up with some thoughtful and tasty drinks with a Vermont twist. They use Barton Hill gin in their gin cocktails. As a big gin lover this stuff is incredible. We started with smoked wings with rub and a side of buffalo sauce. They are done to perfection. Another was the smashed pork egg roles. They came with a chili sauce but I liked them better with just the peanut sauce inside. My hubby loved the sauce. I got the 3 meat platter. An over generous portion of meet, house made giardinera and pickles. The Mac and cheese was incredible. The hubby got the salmon special. He noted that it was done perfectly. When first there when it was slower the service was incredible and Brian talked to us about the place and his inspirations for the cocktail menu. As business picked up service was a little slower. Me and my girlfriend go by this place quite often on our way home today we decided to stop in and try it out. I had the smoke barbecued chicken wings. My girlfriend had the pulled pork sandwich. We are both maze by the high quality of food. The barbecue wings were perfectly smoked and the barbecue flavor on the wings complimented them perfectly. The pulled pork sandwich was moist throughout on the brioche bread was very fresh. First time coming and had high expectations based on prices. 50/50 in our group of 4. 2 thought it was good and 2 of us thought it wasn't. Portions small for price when you've been to other BBQ places nationally, but this is a tourist area. Having lived down south, BBQ should not need sauce but be offered sauce if requested. The meat flavor should stand in its own. But not the case here. Mac and cheese wasn't that good. They serve fries with cheeseburger and I asked for an order to come with BBQ, the response was we don't do sides of fries. WTH... not a complex request. Proper service would be "let me get you an order and there is an up charge." All 4 of us thought the turkey was very good. If you're drinking, plenty of selection. If you don't drink alcohol, you're paying $3 for a can of coke. Overall, we wouldn't go back. Wasn't the worst but also wasn't worth the cost.
