My kid is in college in Athens. We decided to drive up to try this pizza (and garlic knots!) after seeing this place on Instagram. It was totally worth the 3-hour round trip. The selection of specialty pizzas with dog pun names was amusing. We got the Three Little Pugs pizza, which had bacon, ham and sausage, along with artful dollops of ricotta cheese to cool down the spice from the hot garlic chili crunch oil. The garlic knots were big, fluffy and super garlicky and better even than the hype. We got some of their Tyrannodog Sauce (A house-made, dragon's breath chili pepper spicy ranch dressing) and dipped the knots into it. It was so good, we left with a bottle of it. It's spicy and garlicky in all the best ways. Staff was friendly and helpful. Be aware, there is ONE TABLE inside and a few outside the shop. It's mostly a to-go spot, but it's totally worth it. I had a Pick up order for 4:30pm via their online order form, unfortunately the Pizza was overcooked which is pretty disheartening when paying $16.95 for a 10 inch Specialty Pizza called "Lady & the Ramp". The Garlic knots were just okay for being awarded one of the best in a competition last year. I ordered a side of their "garlic butter" however its a very artificial butter substitute of some sort which went straight into the Bin. The Stromboli with Pepperoni and Mushroom was the best of the lot. My second visit here, the first time we waited in the tiny dining space for a long time because the staff forgot we were waiting for our order. Had Black Dog Pizza last night for the first time. Have to say we were pretty happy w/our experience. We got a 16" w/pepperoni, black olives & banana peppers & the distribution was well done. Sauce was good, not wowing; crust was not a thin but a "Medium " thickness. Baked well. The garlic knots were very good, but not as good as I thought they would be. Still, worth the price. One Of the Most conflicting reviews, I have ever had to do. And it is frustrating because, This business has such a high-quality product and high-quality people, But the hours can confuse that average pizza connoisseur, Want a pizza on your lunch break at noon? Forget about. How but a bunch of pizzas, For that Sunday kick off game, or a Saturday Buckeye Game day Tailgate. These hours make that impossible. There are missing out of the main segments of business, for there amazing product. It took me 5 times just to try this, because of the hours, but is that why the staff is so nice? Never done this before, but compelled to since I've been excited to try this place for a long time. Three beers deep, so it is what it is. Let's start with the service...out of this world! Amazing! Felt so welcomed and they were prompt both when I walked in to order, and when I walked in the pick up. The pizza...I had such high hopes. I ordered a pepperoni and meatball (my favorite combo) with the spicy sauce. First off...the pizza tasted hella salty. Don't know if I am sensitive to salt in my older age if 48, but damn. Secondly, I love spicy. This spicy sauce was another level. So spicy I can't stop sweating. Overpowering everything. That's on me. Should have got the regular sauce and just added red pepper flakes. Last...the crust. Just did nothing for me. Too chewy for a Columbus style for my taste. Star of the show...that mf'ing ranch! Damn near drinkable. So freaking good! I'm hoping that after 3 more beers, I can reheat this on a pizza stone, add some more cheese to hopefully tame some of the spicy sauce, and it will taste better. If you're a fan of specialty pizzas, which I am a super fan, the this place is a must try. Really loved everything. The black dog really delivered on the doubling of pepperoni! The pesto and burrata combo on man's pesto friend was excellent. Sometimes both of those things on pizza can be bland but it was seasoned very well. And the alohound was the big surprise. Not Hawaiian pizza fans in my house AT ALL, so was very surprised when my husband wanted to try. They over delivered on the meat which cut through the sweetness of the pineapple well and the addition of cinnamon broke my brain in the best way. My only minor complaint is that the crust was a little on the chewier side. Will definitely try again though. We ordered takeout and everything was delivered on time and as expected. Black Dogs' is hands down my favorite pizza spot. Not only is the ambiance and service great, but the food is amazing ! Plus, what other pizza spot is offering buffalo chicken dip ?? Got takeout so I'm unable to evaluate the bathroom, but I'm sure it's nice. This pizzeria caught my eye due to some dedicated foodies on the FB page and one of the owners sharing pictures of their delicious pies. I gotta say, I was not disappointed. The pizza has that classic crispy texture of NY style pizzas without being overly cracker-ish that I see in these more tavern style pies. I really liked the sauce and they were very generous with the peps. The price seems about average but that's a plus since I think the food has quality. The staff are lovely humans and even address by name at the counter. I really liked the ambiance Overall. Ordered three pizzas and garlic knots for pickup on a Saturday night at 6:45 PM and was told it would be ready at 7:45 PM. Arrived at 7:45 and was told the pizzas were ready, but it would still be 15 minutes for the garlic knots. It ended up taking half an hour after I arrived to get my complete order, and then by the time I got home, the pizzas were cold and soggy from sitting out so long. They gave me a free dessert for the trouble, but it didn't make up for the now poor quality pizzas. The flavor was good but I think my family would have liked it much better if it was hot and fresh. 90 minutes isn't the worst wait on a Saturday night, but I wish they had managed to that expectation and not had my pizzas (and me) sitting around for half an hour in the store. read more

This place was rated number one NY style pizza in Ohio, so I really thought it would be better than Brooklyn pizza in Powell, or Mikey's late night slice, or maybe sextons in Hilliard.. It's not, not even close. It's especially not even close in the reviews where they say it's as good as NYC pizza shops, to that i would laugh in the reviewers face. Must have been a paid review. I got a large 16in, price was competitive, and the ingredients individually are good, nothing tasted cheap on its own, but the process to make the pizza makes it turn out like a sponge. The crust was too thick in places and inconsistent, it had a really weird processed texture that made it inedible, It tasted like a thick cracker and had no airy texture, it tastes like a mass produced conveyor-belt processed puck. No love, just profit. There's a reason NY pizza tastes how it does, between the water and how the dough is handled, worked, sculpted, tossed, stretched, and maneuvered multiple times in an oven, it tastes like it's made with love, skill and passion. In general this method to making a NY pie will not only cook it consistently, but makes the pizza taste better. You can tell the crust could be good, but the process to spit out pizza ruins any hope of making a quality pie. The ingredients, cheese is right, but way too much, and the sauce was good, but way too little, which made the end product taste like a puck covered in a 1/4in of thick cheese. The pepperoni was too skinny, NY pizza has 2in round pieces of pepperoni and not loaded with it, the tiny 1/4in pepperoni all over a pizza is just too much, in typical ohio fashion they make pizza an open face sandwich and it's simply not. I would actually recommend Donato's over this place if you want good ingredients mass produced, as i genuinely feel like this is Donato's for outside Ohio locations. It's possible that loaded up other "open face sandwiches" are good, but there's nothing NY about the NY pie outside of how it's sliced. All that said, the people were busy, friendly, the place was packed and they were staying on top of orders while continuing to produce pizza's. The store is too small for the foot traffic and it can't make it easy for the employees. I saw plenty of reviews from angry delivery customers, if they got off their fat butts and saw how crazy it was during peak times, they wouldn't leave those reviews and if they did, they deserve a cold puck, to that I give the employees props, as they were absolutely working crushed, packed, and staying on top of things. read more

I was sad to hear they were closed for 5 months due to a fire. Now that they are reopened, we decided to order some pizza for delivery. When ordering online, it will redirect you to the "Slice" app, which is relatively easy to use/place your order. It gives you an ETA but it's not 100% accurate. Our order ended up being delivered even though the app still said they were "prepping it". Even though it got delivered sooner than expected, the food was not hot when it got here, more like warm. We love their Cujo, NY style pizza. The flavors are great - pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, topped with hot honey! I also decided to try their cheesy pesto sticks. I was a little disappointed when I didn't see a sauce since the menu stated it came with a side of pizza sauce. I'm not sure if they forgot to pack it in my order but my palate was really searching for it while I was eating the sticks. Without the sauce, the cheese sticks are good, with a mild pesto flavor, but they are very dry. They have a good crunch to them though! read more

I'm a trucker who loves local foods from across America and even though I'm Chicago and I'm biased towards deep dish pizza I think I've had the best thin crust pizza of all time. I parked behind the black dog pizzeria and hopped on their website. I saw their signature "black dog" pizza was a thin crust double pepperoni so I ordered one with the spicy sauce. Crust? Perfect. Toppings? Absolutely outstanding pepperoni without being too salty. Cheese? Exactly the right amount. If you wanna know where this truck driver finds the perfect pepperoni pizza look no further. Can't wait to come back and try their other pies and I have to mention the goofy guys that took my order over. The phone were so cool and fun. It increased my experience. I've had Black Dog now a few times. Typically have it delivered via a third party. It's a good price and ingredients seem to be high quality. My only knock is that it has been a bit inconsistent in my orders. Sometimes it's shown up perfect then other times it looks like it was just thrown together and shoved in an oven. read more

What an absolutely underrated gem! I was looking for pizza in the Hilliard/Dublin area and saw Black Dog on the map. I had never heard of it but saw good reviews and the menu looked delicious so decided to go for it. Now I'm sad that I live on the other side of town away from it! Passing through town from Chicago. Read the reviews and decided to give Black Dog a try. The staff was great! Warm welcome and made sure everyone waiting for an order was taken care of. I ordered the Ultimutt and a small house salad. The house salad was good size for a small, generous, and filled with fresh veggies, lettuce and pepperoni. It was delicious. The pizza was OUTSTANDING. One of the best I've ever had. It was loaded with fresh ingredients and the tomato sauce was awesome! If I'm ever back in the Dublin area, I will definitely be back! read more

Went in to place my order & was done in about 15 min! The pizza was so so so good. I'm still thinking about it! I love the pepperoni, the bake on it was perfection and their ranch was amazing also. "NY style" pepperoni and bacon. Cooked through and had some crunch to it despite being delivery. Not really typical of a NY slice, but doesn't matter to me. Plenty of toppings, both tasted great. Sauce is great and just a bit of sweetness to it. Solid pie. Th Garlic knots. Oh my damn lanta they are absurdly good. Plenty of garlic and butter all over there things.
