We were in the area yesterday, so decided to have brunch here. I heard the buzz and wanted to check it out! All the food fell kind of flat. I had the Caesar salad and added salmon. I liked mine, especially the salad itself, but it didn't blow me away. I was hoping for the lunch menu alongside the brunch, but they only had the dinner menu. One just doesn't feel like having a short rib at noon! (At least I don't!) Hubs had a cup of green chile and then the spicy ahi tuna appetizer. The green chile was good; I'd recommend that. The tuna came drenched in mayo and sauce, making it impossible to even taste the tuna. It was served with stale tortilla chips. Would not recommend. My daughter ordered the waffle off the brunch menu and didn't really like it. Seemed a little overcooked, maybe. Perhaps we just didn't order the right things, but service was slow (though friendly), and we won't return. read more

We have been here for dinner several times and decided to go for Mother's Day brunch. The food was ok, not exceptional and portions were small. But my biggest complaint is that our tip amount was entered incorrectly (40% more) by the server and our credit card company brought it to our attention. We have sent two emails, and I have called twice only to leave messages with staff for the owner/manager to not be returned. It has been nearly two weeks. On a whim we decided to go out for a casual dinner on New Years Eve. It was 5 pm so we figured we could beat the crowds. We went to Texas Road House and the wait was already insane. With it being flu season we weren't going to hang out in such a crowded place. Los Dos was nearby and we decided we'd take a chance there instead. Driving into the parking lot we noticed HiLo wasn't busy. It isn't what we consider casual dining, and we weren't dressed for it, but we knew the meals would be wonderful. We went in to see if we could get a table. Our server, Jackson found us a table and treated us like regulars who had reservations. The meal was predictably outstanding and the dining experience was a great way to begin the new year. Their menu is diverse, with delicious high-end meals, but also spaghetti and ice cream sundaes for younger folks. This is my absolute favorite restaurant it is such a hidden gem. I have taken several friends and family members and everyone has loved it. The ambiance is so calm with beautiful and tasteful decor. The atmosphere is quiet, bright, lovely, friendly. There are tables for a romantic dinner. Service is excellent. Staff are efficient, warm, accommodating. I enjoy sitting outside on the patio weather permitting - they do have heaters. The food is delicious. I typically have the tuna and avocado appetizer with either a salad or seared spinach with garlic and olive oil. Food seems freshly made. Others I've been with love their Italian entrées. Personally I'm not a fan AND different strokes ... Several friends of mine love them. And if you read other reviews, i may be in the minority. Love the warm bread and pesto served before dinner. The portion of the chicken parm was so huge it was legitimately two servings and there was the perfect amount of pasta to chicken ratio. That being said, the pasta was cooked a bit more than I would have liked. I thoroughly enjoyed the crème brûlée and could have shared if I had wanted to. First time at Hilo and we were super excited to check it out! We were seated quickly and looked over their extensive wine list. First was their bread with house made pesto which my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed. I had the pan seared salmon which was incredible - it came with Parmesan creamed rice which was delicious but still light. My boyfriend had the chicken parmesean + spaghetti which he loved. Jackson was our server - he was very attentive and gave us great recommendations! Food came out in a very timely manner. The vibe here is casual and inviting. I first visited HiLo a few years ago. But, visiting my parents I was delighted when they wanted to go there. Steve treats them so well and they love feeling like family. Jackson, JT, Ana, and Kevin all treat them kindly and make the place a home kitchen for them. But, don't think the awesome people are the only reason we love this place. The food is top notch. The salmon is a must and the chicken piccata is another favorite. If you visit here, please tell them I said thank you for tasting my parents so well. We really loved this place. It's so cute inside and they also have a patio in the front. We went mid afternoon for a late lunch/ early dinner since we were heading to Red Rocks for a concert. Anyways, we were the only people in there. The service was great. I couldn't decide between two of the happy hour wines, so our server/host/bartender gave me a sample. I chose the Pinot noir. It was a great buy at the happy hour price. I ordered the roasted garden veggie sandwich. It was so good, with squash, peppers, onions, Swiss cheese and sun dried tomatoes. What really made the sandwich was the sauce and the bun. The bun was so crispy outside and soft inside and the sauce was a little sweet spicy. The side salad was really good, too. My husband had the chicken picatta which had a light sauce and came with grilled veggies. It was topped with capers. Really a great meal and very reasonably priced. I wish I lived nearby. We visited this restaurant after a beautiful hike -- the food itself was excellent. However, the experience left much to be desired due to a complete lack of professionalism and accountability from the owner. I have multiple dietary restrictions (gluten, soy, and dairy), which the waiter was kind enough to accommodate when helping me order a combination of sides. He offered gluten-free bread, with no mention of an additional charge, and never explained that ordering sides would be treated as a full entrée. When the bill came, I was shocked to see I'd been charged an entrée price for what were clearly sides, along with an unexpected charge for the bread. Naturally, I asked several times to speak with a manager -- only to be told there was no manager on duty. The owner, Peter, was present but flat-out refused multiple times to come out and speak with me, leaving the waiter -- who was polite but powerless -- to handle the situation alone. I dine out regularly with strict dietary needs and have never encountered this kind of evasive and dismissive behavior from an owner. It was unprofessional and frankly insulting that Peter would not face the customer himself when a clear service issue arose. The waiter ultimately made a small adjustment to the bill, but the experience left a bad taste. Restaurants thrive on trust and transparency -- which was severely lacking here. Until Peter learns how to properly engage with guests -- especially when he is acting as the manager -- I would hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. read more

What a little treat in Littleton. Service was friendly, fast, and full of community vibes. We devoured French Onion soup as a starter and 100% recommend it! The cava tappi pasta was my choice and I wasn't disappointed--just enough cream sauce to all the yummy ingredients including mushrooms and artichokes. The only negative is that the amount of greens in each salad was very small for the $15 price. Desserts were good as well, but the flourless chocolate cake was too dense and not very chocolaty. Great little place tucked away in Littleton! The menu had a lot of interesting variations. The interior was cozy and well-decorated, and the outside tables were comfortable and well-spaced, though a downside is the view is right into a parking lot but what can you do with certain locations. We enjoyed the avocado bruschetta and the burrata for appetizers. We shared the beet salad, and the hazelnuts were an interesting and tasty touch. I had the cavatappi dish that was starred as one of their favorites, and it did not disappoint. The sauce was delicious and the artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes gave it the perfect amount of punch. The desserts were a little disappointing but just a little since I have high expectations for desserts. The apple crisp was a little too heavy on the oats, and the scoop of ice cream in the middle didn't cover much of the crisp so the ratio was off. Less crisp or more ice cream please! The new banana bread pudding was just not quite there - needs a little more moisture to make it that bit of soggy that makes bread pudding so good. The caramelized bananas on the side were a nice touch. Our waitress was great, and the owner stopped by to talk to us and seemed like a lovely man. Not sure if we caught an off night or what. Came in for Tuesday dinner on a whim since neighbor had given us a gift card. Service was friendly, restaurant was half empty. We ordered spinach artichoke dip as an app, it came quickly and tasted good but didn't seem fully warm-reheated too briefly maybe? Table next to us was brought bread with pesto, but we never got any bread. Ordered wine, waitress was not familiar with their bottles and couldn't answer basic questions, then brought the wrong one. Not so impressed with that. The one she brought was fine, but not what we asked for-and their wine pricing is steep for what they offer, more than most restaurant bottle markups. Also steep, the entree prices. It looked like their menu bends Italian, so we ordered chicken Marsala and chicken piccata. Husband did not like the Marsala, it tasted strongly of salty beef broth but not like Marsala and not creamy. I liked the sauce on the piccata but the chicken breast was too thick, would have been better thinned and tenderized. Came with mashed potatoes, not awful but not the greatest, tasted re-warmed (again not hot enough) and not creamy. Veggies on the side appeared fresh but were an odd mix of types. Both were close to $30, which is about what a chicken entree might cost at an expensive steakhouse restaurant but way more than I would expect for a suburban strip mall place, and the quality did not justify the price. Would not order either entree again. We saw the banana bread pudding and ordered-that was good! Overall meh experience, some things were good, but now (3am) I'm awake with a stomachache writing this review so... unlikely to return. read more
