I don't know how we have lived in the area for 10 years and this was our first trip to J Alexander's. First the service was awesome. Parker our waiter was friendly, helpful and made sure we felt special on our first visit. In addition every person who walked by assessed the table and took care of our needs (water, refills, clears plates etc). That teamwork made the experience even better. The restaurant itself was cozy and relaxing with a great ambiance. The food was excellent! My first time here. Visiting for a week in CO and my friend said they had good French dips so we went for lunch. Probably in the top 3 of all French dips I've ever had. They definitely do not skimp on the meat, and it's cooked perfectly...slightly rare just how it should be. The fries were also excellent. Thin and crispy. Came for happy hour and ended up ordering food to go. A colleague in a networking group suggested J Alexanders for happy hour meeting. They do not have a happy hour but were fairly busy on a Wednesday evening in the bar area. The bartenders were nice and the Kentucky old fashioned (tried Duke Bourbon) was just perfect. I had a second cocktail in the knickerbocker and it was just too sweet with the candied cherry. I should stick with what I like. I ordered the deviled eggs and there were 8 to an order which was more than I expected. The eggs and filling were creamy and delicious with sugar cured bacon and pickle relish. As my eyes are always bigger than my stomach I also ordered the fire grilled artichokes with remoulade. They were charred perfectly with enough oil and salt to make them decadent and easy to eat. I definitely needed my napkin with them. Also big enough for 2-4 people to share. To go I ordered an Alex's salad with grilled chicken. I didn't try it but my wife really liked it with the homemade ranch dressing (on the side of course!) I tried the French dip and it was very tasty. I did ask for grilled onions as an addition. They were added but in large slices so I'll skip that next time. The au jus was fine but a little underseasoned. I did try the French Fries for my side and I give them a thumbs up. He helped us select from the menu and was very helpful in our making some great choices for our Dinner. We selected the Steak Rolls, Steak Burgers, Roasted Chicken Salad and Shrimp Louie Salad. Amazingly the prices here are actually ok for the quality of food you get and the overall experience and ambience. J. Alexander's is a chain, but it doesn't feel like it. I had Steak and Fries and my wife had ribs, we were both very happy with our dishes. We also had the grilled artichoke for started, it's really good. I also love their Key Lime Pie for dessert. The food took some time to get to the table, and thinking about it also the drinks. So they can improve on speed a little bit but overall we enjoyed the night and will return. read more

Then we split the prime rib that was amazing. They cook with wood there so there was a smoky fast on the bark but not smoky on the meat it was perfectly cooked. The menu was quite appetizing and was hard to select from. Our server was superb and informative. She took our order from memory. I find that quite amazing. My wine of choice was The Prisoner 2022 to complement our meaty order. We stayed with Lemon and Parmigiano Broccoli as an appetizer. It was pretty good but not spectacular. We ordered a Filet Mignon and Ribeye dinner. Both were full of flavor accented with their sides. Both steaks came out medium rare as ordered and tender. 5/5 Once we were finished, our server asked if we wanted dessert, but we were too full. Had dinner with a colleague here on a Tuesday evening. This place is intimate and classy. They have nice big booths and a nice bar section to sit at too. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. Our waiter was very nice, professional, and attentive. We started out with the calamari. The calamari was lightly breaded and seasoned. Very tasty. Not oily or salty. I forgot to take a picture of the calamari because I was so hungry. Lol We then ordered the crab cakes for dinner to share. The crab cakes are absolutely delicious. Yum! Gosh, we made room for a delicious key lime pie and shared that as well. The slice is very generous. We each had a decent 1/4 slice each. The key lime pie is light, creamy, perfectly tart and sweet. My friend and I go to dinner every Wednesday night. I had just been to J Alexander's for a birthday lunch, so I decided to take my friend there. Everything was great - until I received my check. The check read $57. xx, so I placed my CC down. When the receipt came it read $116.xx. Normally, I never glance at my check. But here is why I'm leaving a review... Kelly our server, did the switch with such ease, that it made me angry! Kelly's response was so rehearsed, and nonchalant, I can only believe it's not her first time, which is even SADDER!!! Menu was simple definitely prices on the higher end, I ordered Mr. Jacks crispy chicken platter, and my wife orders steak and fries. We got our drinks quickly, servers were attentive a little slow but attentive. Food came and I wish I had my phone with me but I had left it at home so sorry for the no pics!! Anyways I basically got chicken tenders, Cole slaw and fries!!! with fancy dipping sauces!!! Anyways it tasted just like cane's chicken combo but the cane's tenders way bigger. So I was pretty bummed for my plate, my wife said her steak was good but definitely not anywhere near Texas road house or saltgrass. So definitely not a place I would say it's worthwhile. I think it's more of a social status for people, which is sad since the food should really be what speaks for your establishment. The food was great and they were very accommodating. My only issue was that it was so loud inside that my kids (tween/teen age) were upset and none of us could hear one another. The staff handled it really well though-I asked if we could move to the patio and they were happy to accommodate us. Made reservations for my first Valentine's Day dinner with my gal for 8:15 PM. We arrived and we're told there's a 15 minute wait this turned in to 30 minutes. We were pulled to be seated and walked to the dining area to realized there was no table open which turned into another 5 to 10 minute wait. Never had that happen before. Once seated, we ordered drinks that were in the smallest glasses and completely filled with ice. Ridiculous. We ordered ribeyes with vegetables and potatoes, which were heavily salted. More so, the Worcestershire sauce that came with the ribeye was terribly salted. When inquiring about dessert their special for Valentine's Day was peanut butter pie and that didn't seem too appealing. There were two others to choose from so a Bundt cake with ice cream, which we ordered that tasted like it was prepared from a grocery store box. All in all the restaurant's management seem to be more concerned with the amount of people they could push through that evening than the experience their customers could have. It was completely overbooked. In the end, I was thinking more about the money I spent than the experience with the girl I was with. That's just sad. I ate here once before in 2020 and it was a great experience. I wouldn't recommend this place if you want a good experience especially with someone you want to leave a lasting impression. read more
