Lack of simple attention to details was a letdown. Placed a delivery order as I'm staying at a nearby hotel with no transportation. Was excited to find a Black-eyed Pea restaurant close as it's been two years since I had them last when visiting Dallas. Catfish was meh with a weird taste and texture on the second fillet. Salmon portion was larger than I expected but had no flavor even though I can see pepper on the fish. The killer for me was I requested silverware, condiments, and dressing for a salad and none was included even though the receipt on the outside of the bag has the request in three different places. With the current high cost of living and prices everywhere being astronomically high, it is very difficult to even eat out once a month. I was disappointed that a simple chicken dinner at the Black Eyed Pea is over $20 for one person-Really?!?! We ate at the Black-Eyed Pea in Westminster, Co. recently and spent $65 for lunch for the two of us. Our tea was never refilled and we were basically ignored and massively overcharged. The table behind us was offered a choice of rolls and we were only given three rolls and not offered any additional bread. We saw our waitperson twice and the service was super slow even though the restaurant was fully staffed. We were the only people of color in the restaurant and this could possibly be the reason. We go there at least once a month with our group of six seniors.....sometimes just four of us. We meet our friends there because it's close for all of us. We all like the food (one lady in our group "ALWAYS" orders the turkey dinner because of her dietary choices.). The wait staff knows who we all are and one waiter knows I like the shorter table because of my height. You can't go bad with any of their menu items. There used to be a Black Eyed Peas restaurant in Phoenix, and it seems like many people don't grasp that its focus is on traditional American cuisine. This style is fundamental, embodying the essence of what American food originally was - substantial, corn-fed, quintessentially American dishes. It's all about generous portions of homemade, wholesome, and straightforward fare, not about being fancy or overly intricate. Unfortunately, in Arvada, people don't seem to appreciate how great this restaurant concept is. Moreover, the owners of Black Eyed Peas might not fully understand the challenge they face in conveying their concept to food enthusiasts. Once these foodies experience it, the concept becomes clear and speaks for itself. This place probably is a little back dated and the bathrooms do have a slight smell. Unprofessional wait staff, hostile environment. For an unknown reason the server singled me out for hostile treatment, ignoring me. After 10 minutes (and 3 loops of the server making sure everyone else in the section had what they needed) I flagged someone down from another section for service. Another 10 minutes later, I flagged them down again and asked what the deal was, they couldn't give me an answer. I paid for my drink and appetizer and left, guess that what they wanted. First time in this place. Right away from the door we were greeted by a very nice hostess. Our waitress was also really nice, patient and kind. We were family of 3 adults. We ordered Shepherds Pie, Irish Pie and Reuben Sandwich. All dishes were very delicious. The meet in Reuben was incredibly good -- cooked at the restaurant. I go to the Northglenn Black Eyed Pea about once a week. Home cooking at it's finest. Even when crowded, you are seated quickly. The managers and wait staff greet you and are very kind and friendly. (Amber is awesome!) Service is fast, and the food is great. I used to go to TGIF for potato skins, but they changed to some horrible frozen ones that they just warm up. Really awful. Was pleased to see Black Eyed Pea knows how to do them right! You can get 3 or 6. Be hungry if you order 6! They're big and filling! The place could use a bit of a facelift, but it's always clean and comfortable. I can cook most of my old favorites, but don't feel like it. For a Thanksgiving dinner on a very busy day, BEP worked out well for us. When we arrived about 2:15 on Thanksgiving, we were advised the wait was at least an hour! We decided to wander over to the bar and as luck would have it, we got two seats together within 5 minutes! The food was good, we were served dinner in about 10 minutes and the bartender/server presented a positive attitude in the very busy situation. Observed a server who had a very runny nose, looked extremely pale and was coughing constantly - yet still working. (If she'd been our server I would have left.) I watched her filling drinks, picking up food, wiping counters, filling bread baskets - all while coughing. I tried to locate the manager to suggest that she be sent home (seriously dude, COVID is blowing up again and you shouldn't have someone who is so obviously sick working. And of course, not wearing a mask.) There were plenty of other servers there so it clearly wasn't a worker shortage situation. The manager came out of the back room for about 15 seconds to say something to an employee and then disappeared - never saw him again for the hour we were there. My parents came in town to visit and got excited to go to "The Pea" because they grew up with the restaurant but haven't had one where they live for years. We go put our name in and head to the bar to get a drink while we wait. Over half an hour later my dad goes to see where we are on the list and the hostess says, "Oh we called your name, didn't think to check the bar." .... weird, but we'll move past it I guess. Our waitress seemed like she was normally not even a waitress. She said she'd bring us rolls and cornbread, but never did. She came back to confirm that I ordered corn, but still brought me green beans instead and also didn't bring mine or my mom's baked potato we ordered. We told the guy who brought our food out that three items were missing, and no, no one ever brought them to us. It was probably another 15 minutes before we even saw our waitress again and she barely apologized and was not about to offer us any type of discount for the lack of 3 items and overall terrible service. I chose the restaurant this time and both of us were extremely pleased with the food and the service even the hostess came and checked on us and talked. This was my first time eating at this location, from the moment we opened the door we were greeted and seated. We sat in the bar area which was very roomy, the waitstaff that was working the bar and the tables were busy. They were very attentive to all customers, they seem to do a great to-go business as well. We had the best hand battered fried mushrooms hot at fresh.
